I have been to Milton's several times to take out food, but never dined at the restaurant. This review is for take-out only. They have a TON of options and variety, something for everyone. I love their Matzo Ball soup. They have all sorts of delicious baked goods in their bakery, from cookies to banana pudding. I have also liked their bagel and cream cheese. One time, the meat on my friend's sandwich was too fatty to eat, but most of our experiences have been positive. It's located in a busy shopping center, but I've always been able to find parking close enough to the restaurant when picking up food. The staff has always been professional and helpful. Yesterday, with cold weather here in the Del Mar/Carmel Valley area, it has been cold and we wanted soup and for great chicken soup, you go to Milton's/. This time we had Rafael waiting on us and he was absolutely spectacular! Even though we have been coming to Milton's for years, maybe decades, Rafael gave us insights into ordering that no one has eve shared with us!! Yes, we spent more $$$ but we had options presented we've never considered and it really made our meal choices wonderful!! This was sadly a disappointment for our very hungry friends and family after a day at flower hill market. The Matzah soup was reminiscent of hospital food, the steak Caesar arrived with a more than generous pour of barbecue sauce mingling with the chewy steak and lettuce (soupy), the schnitzel that was not so schnitzely, and overall it was just not the best experience. Pleasantly surprised! We were not planning to stop by, but decided to check it out as part of our walk around the Plaza. Upon first entering the restaurant, you'll find the bakery and market straight ahead and slightly to the left. It's not super big but definitely packed with various goodies. We were greeted right away by whom I think was a manager. She was very polite and patient as we tried to decide on what to order. I kept going back and forth between the a few of their refrigerated offerings, but in the end, we went with what initially caught my eye - the tiramisu ... and I'm glad we did! For $9 and it being from a restaurant, I would say I would pay this much again for it. It's thick, plump, serves two (or maybe just one haha), and as told by the manager, made fresh and in house. You can taste the coffee and coffee liquor that makes this dessert distinctly tiramisu, you can taste the richness of the marscapone cream (which is traditionally made also with egg yolks), and you can taste the soft dusting of cocoa on top. To be honest, this is probably now one of my favorite tiramisus. Simple but done very well. Can't wait to try some of their other offerings! read more

Miltons Restaurant in Old Del Mar California is one of my favorite restaurants in North County, San Diego. I must admit, I love American cuisine, and Miltons covers my taste with a seemingly endless variety there. When I find a restaurant I love, I return, and return, and return. Miltons is that restaurant. Their Pastrami Sandwich is mouthwatering delicious as is my second favorite, the Rubin. OMG. Honestly, I should wander around the menu more, but, like I said, when I discover my favorite I generally don't stray very far. Thank you Miltons for years and years of eating delight. Chicken pot pie - this is NOT a chicken pot pie! Last time I checked ..if you call something a pie..it needs to be IN A CRUST (hence = "pie"). Your version was the blob of a chicken pot pie and then a roll type thing on top. What the ??? DO NOT call it a "pot pie" and then serve a blob with a roll on top! Brisket - this was bland as he** and had zero au jus! We asked for EXTRA au jus and got zip! It was about as dry as Arizona in July. Matzo ball soup - not sure who is making the matzo balls, but someone that obviously believes they should resemble some kind of a weapon. Bland, hard and just inedible. How the ?? do you mess this up!? I could go on and on but this was just one disaster after another - AND EXPENSIVE - so don't bother coming here. You will be very disappointed. I needed some amazing comfort food near my mom in Carlsbad, so Milton's came to mind. I knew I wanted brisket and matzo ball soup, so this was the spot! Upon walking in, you see the impressive deli counter full of incredible corned beef, pastrami and brisket, black and white cookies and much more. The vibe was laid back and comfy and I can see regulars that would love visiting daily. I ordered online; it was amazing and perfect! The order was gallons of matzo ball soup, full brisket sandwiches, brisket dinners, BBQ chicken salads, the shaved brussel salad with tuna salad, sweet potato fries, cole slaw, etc. Service was perfect and the cashier helped me bring everything to my car. I've been to Milton's maybe 100 times I lived near by in Rancho Santa Fe .... I placed a to go order the guy taking the order was clearing struggling .... I had him repeat the order there were a few mistakes we fixed them over the phone ... when I picked up the order one item was missing and 2/3 of the sandwich's were made incorrectly .... I called to tell them what has happened and she acknowledged the guy might of made mistakes I told her my sandwich is inedible.... She heard everything I was saying and it was clear no refund no gift certificate was going to be give ... just an acknowledgment that it happens and a "sorry" I even tipped on the to go order never mentioned that but it was bad Buisness to not take care of me P.s. turns out the 3rd sandwich was also made incorrectly and inedible- just awful read more

What a delicious and wonderful deli. I can't say enough great things about the food we had at Milton's while we visited the area. The Reuben with both corned beef and pastrami was perfectly made, with just the right amount of Russian Dressing. The brisket sandwich comes with an au jus for dipping, and was devoured in seconds. And the matzo ball soup had an amazing broth, and fresh, tender chicken, with great noodles. I was full but kept eating because the flavors were so good. I wish this place was near me so that I could go every week. Also, really kind and attentive staff. I hope I can go back someday. read more

We got there and the hostess was super nice and accommodating. They got our kids set up with coloring and gave us a great table for me to watch Sunday Night Football while we ate. So we walked in and no one was at the counter. There were several people waiting but few on the list. Girl that was pouring beers put us on list and said she wasn't sure where the guy was at nor did she know how long the wait was. Two people came in after us and two people came after them. Guy comes up and one lady says I want to put our name on the list. He points to the lady's that came in after and they said for two and seats them! He comes back and picks up the two people that wanted to be on the wait list to be seated!!! I said to both the lady that put our name down and the guy that what's the purpose of the list if you don't use it? He said, oh they had reservations!!! I was livid, but my son calmed me down as we waited. Service was very slow. When we did get our food, the side order was an appetizer and instead of just leaving it, she took it back to the kitchen to remove the two extra potato pancakes only to return with cold food. I was craving Jewish deli food so we ventured out here from from North County inland Pricing was not bad for a good size sandwich. I was hoping the pastrami was more peppery and crispy on the ends like I am use to but it was tasty and plenty of meat. I am completely over the fact that overpriced restaurants or any restaurant for that matter is charging people 3% to use their credit card. Look, if you're going to be a business, part of the price of doing business is absorbing fees in order to run your business. I went in the other day and it was completely surprised to see a sign at the register that says we charge 3% for credit card transactions. Not to mention the fact that when I asked for a sample of the roast beef because I was going to purchase some, I was told there are no samples. I have never been to a deli that will not let you sample the meat before you purchase it. If you can't afford to be in business without charging people for business fees, then it's time to hang up your hat. It's no secret that sandwiches here cost well over $20 so charging people 3% on top of that is ridiculous. What I don't understand is why you won't just absorb it into the price of whatever you're selling or offer cash discounts. Needless to say, I won't be back. I encourage everyone to look at the fine print the next time you go. read more
