Eh, what a mediocre lunch. Way overpriced, and obviously still living off their past glory days and reaping the benefit of their name in the form of an annuity. The sandwich sure looks large, until you realize that all the meat is only placed in the center of the bread, with NO meat anywhere near the crust or edge of the bread. If you move the meat evenly on the bread, you end up with a very average size sandwich. On a positive note, the pastrami was good, as was the rye bread. Service was only fair. We placed our drinks order, and server only brought out water, and then wanted to take our food order. Milton's is a beautiful location and this was the first time we tried it out! Our wait to be seated was short, however once we were seated it did take a little bit for the server to take our order (they were really busy). We ordered the Reuben split in half and then had chicken tenders and fries for our son. The food - phenomenal! I've only had a better Reuben from Hamburger Factory in Poway, but this is now a go-to spot if I'm driving down the PCH and have a craving. My only complaint besides the slower than normal service was that this business doesn't offer a discount for military veterans, active duty, or first responders. read more

We ordered turkey sandwiches and what we got was a slab of turkey on plain bread- no sauce, lettuce, onion or tomato. $17 for two pieces of bread and a handful of turkey. Ridiculous and a total rip off. We had to ask for the toppings . So people just eat it plain?!! Finally made it to the staple that is Milton's. I'd give it a 3.5 but rounding up to 4. We waited about a half hour on a Saturday around lunch time but everything moved pretty quickly. The potato pancakes were cooked perfectly and served with sour cream and apple sauce for dipping. We also had matzo ball soup and a pastrami sandwich with slaw and Russian dressing. The soup was good. I feel like it can be hard to find good soup in the area so it's nice to have that option. The pastrami was good, definitely worth having the slaw and dressing added. read more

Early lunch on a Friday with a friend. I'm glad we got there early. The parking lot at 12:30 pm when we left was a nightmare. Our waiter, Bryant R, was quick, kind, and helpful. To my surprise, the food was all really good...and I am not a big sandwich person. But this is the famous Milton's, who makes bread and crackers sold all over! The pastrami is superior to the corned beef by far; pastrami is salty, has more flavor, and is more firm. (I had a bite of other people's sandwiches; combo pastrami and corned beef would probably be good too but pastrami is definitely the tastier meat.) I had the half sandwich, which came with choice of side (coleslaw, potato salad pasta salad--to which I had coleslaw that was really good). I selected chicken noodle, to which I give kudos for the plating -- bunch of noodle, bunch of white meat chicken, bunch of carrots in a bowl filled with warm broth. (I added my own salt and pepper) The soup was very hearty! Home made chips were nice and the fries had an extra crisp on the batter, as if were double fried. The bakery when you first enter the restaurant is very impressive. We ordered a slice of German chocolate cake (not a big deal and would not necessarily recommend) but the lemon bar was really good and a nice size. If your kid finds all the words in the puzzle on the child's mat, your kid gets a cookie!! So kudos for that!! Menu had a lot of variety--breakfast all day; baby back ribs; sandwiches; salads. Our out of town team just finished a soccer game at the nearby Surf sports complex and needed a place to gather and watch the FIFA Soccer game (Mexico Vs Argentina). The food was delicious, but I think for me having a very challenging little boy with severe autism the atmosphere and the professionalism of the host hostess is why I would definitely travel back to this establishment. Oh my God, the pancakes and the French toast were fire. Absolutely delicious. My hubby enjoyed a cream puff that he devoured on the spot, and I purchased some butter cookies that melt in your mouth! I wanted to buy so much more (their tuna salad is to die for), but we were leaving the next day and there wasn't time to eat it. Like Arnold says though...I'll be back! Milton's Deli has everything from amazing baked goods to huge sandwiches, matzo ball soup, chicken pot pies, as well as many other Jewish foods that delight the senses. They know how to bake, cook, and serve quality food. The atmosphere is inviting and different than other delis. Milton's has lots of space, high ceilings, and because it's close to the racetrack they have fun race decor. The bakery case is my favorite part of the restaurant; just take a look for yourself and you will see! The staff here are attentive, friendly, and know their stuff. The one drawback is that it is pricey, but take into consideration the food quality, quantity, and location it isn't too much for what you are getting. We went to Milton's in San Diego. We purchased a voucher from Groupon giving us $40 to spend. The cost of this voucher was $21.42. We ordered a sandwich with Chopped liver on one side and pastrami on the other side. We also ordered a cheese omelette. We had one coffee and one small orange juice. We were charged an additional $35.07. So in total, we paid $56.49. The food was Okay but we think that being charged $96.49 less $40 deducted from Groupon voucher =$56.49 is outrageous for what we had. We feel that we were being charged for everything that they could possibly charge us. We were also charged a gratuity fee of $10.66 (18%)... since when was a tip obligatory? We were also charged an extra $1.50 for the cheese on the omelette, $7 for a small orange juice and on the bill it said that they had the option to charge an additional 3% for the use of a credit card, to help offset processing fees. This seems like gouging at its best!! When I queried why I was being charged $15 x 2 for the sandwich that we had ordered, the management informed us that it was too late to query the price, we were told that he (the manager) could possibly have done something about the $30 charge, had we mentioned it earlier. We only queried the price once we had received the bill at the end of the meal. Overall this was an unpleasant experience, and we feel that we were being penalized for having used Groupon to help pay for the meal. I paid for the meal, but felt that we were being gouged. Milton has been around for a very long time. I used to drive by it fairly often on my way to work in pre-pandemic times. I finally had the opportunity to try for breakfast. I had the lox Benedict eggs. With a side of hashbrowns, the potato pancake that was used instead of an English muffin was good and crunchy. The lox was very flavorful and so was the sauce. The eggs were perfectly runny, and not overdone. The hashbrowns were excellent. And were made of fresh potatoes. The ambience was OK. I was sitting at the very end of their inside area and that was not as nice as decorated as towards the entrance. It also was a bit hot. I almost wish that I had instead sat on the few tables outside. also the table did not have hot sauce. I am however, quite intrigued by their menu, and will try to be back to try their Ruben sandwich and the rye bread, which is actually one of my favorite for toast. I also noticed that they have some lunch specials Monday through Friday, as well as a $9.99 breakfast special also Monday through Friday. Food was average. Probably would have tasted better if the service was more timely. Eight of us sat down with 3 children at the table as well. Asked for 2 checks and server acknowledged request but did not deliver at end of meal. Food came for adults first and we watched our food get cold until the kids food came. Asked for fries on 2 meals and they were not given as they were likely not ordered by the server since it took until meals were almost done before fries were received. Had to get my own condiments while the server was away. Water never refilled. Had to get our own togo boxes for leftovers. Had to pay upfront because the server was no where to be seen after he dropped off check. If the server needed help then he could have asked from his co workers. Their chicken soup is great, their sandwiches, both hot and cold are made to your specifications. I can be finicky about texture, but never have any complaints with how Milton's stacks up (their sandwiches). They are a little pricey, but it is Del Mar...so it's to be expected. Went in with a son for midweek, late lunch. Our first time here. We were welcomed graciously and seated immediately. A few crumbs in the booth were an annoying oversight. Server was friendly. Son loved his corned beef sandwich and my Cobb salad was good. As a Jew who grew up in LA on deli food and had been living in San Diego for almost the past 20 years, I've never gotten food from a place where everything was so bad. The chopped liver has no taste whatsoever, but, in the words of Guy Fieri, it's flavor town compared to the egg salad, tuna salad, and corned beef. The corned beef! It was like bland rubber.
