So we walked in and no one was at the counter. There were several people waiting but few on the list. Girl that was pouring beers put us on list and said she wasn't sure where the guy was at nor did she know how long the wait was. Two people came in after us and two people came after them. Guy comes up and one lady says I want to put our name on the list. He points to the lady's that came in after and they said for two and seats them! He comes back and picks up the two people that wanted to be on the wait list to be seated!!! I said to both the lady that put our name down and the guy that what's the purpose of the list if you don't use it? He said, oh they had reservations!!! I was livid, but my son calmed me down as we waited. Service was very slow. When we did get our food, the side order was an appetizer and instead of just leaving it, she took it back to the kitchen to remove the two extra potato pancakes only to return with cold food. Chicken pot pie - this is NOT a chicken pot pie! Last time I checked ..if you call something a pie..it needs to be IN A CRUST (hence = "pie"). Your version was the blob of a chicken pot pie and then a roll type thing on top. What the ??? DO NOT call it a "pot pie" and then serve a blob with a roll on top! Brisket - this was bland as he** and had zero au jus! We asked for EXTRA au jus and got zip! It was about as dry as Arizona in July. Matzo ball soup - not sure who is making the matzo balls, but someone that obviously believes they should resemble some kind of a weapon. Bland, hard and just inedible. I was hoping the pastrami was more peppery and crispy on the ends like I am use to but it was tasty and plenty of meat. I am completely over the fact that overpriced restaurants or any restaurant for that matter is charging people 3% to use their credit card. Look, if you're going to be a business, part of the price of doing business is absorbing fees in order to run your business. I went in the other day and it was completely surprised to see a sign at the register that says we charge 3% for credit card transactions. Not to mention the fact that when I asked for a sample of the roast beef because I was going to purchase some, I was told there are no samples. I have never been to a deli that will not let you sample the meat before you purchase it. If you can't afford to be in business without charging people for business fees, then it's time to hang up your hat. It's no secret that sandwiches here cost well over $20 so charging people 3% on top of that is ridiculous. What I don't understand is why you won't just absorb it into the price of whatever you're selling or offer cash discounts. Needless to say, I won't be back. Consistently good food, I've been dining at Milton's for the past 25 or more years now. Really good matzo ball soup with shredded chicken, very good sandwiches. Went to Milton's for the first time for lunch. Big space with plenty of seating. Parking lot is extremely busy so please be careful. Anyway, we were greeted promptly and seated at the table. The menu is large and it has lots of options. The portions are enormous. I got soup and half sandwich. I didn't find the matzoh ball soup or the lean pastrami sandwich to be very flavorful. The bread also tasted a little stale. It didn't have any mustard or anything on it at all. Service was OK but the servers were definitely covering big sections. It took us a while to get drink refills and to get our check. The people cleaning tables try to be so efficient they took a plate that we weren't done with yet. They also cleared plates when two people were still eating. That was annoying. Pretty average place. Food is decent. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. read more

On my way back up north from San Diego, I found this spot right off the freeway that my friend told me about. She said that it has the best bagel chips and had to try them. So i stopped here for lunch and ordered the Triple Decker pastrami with Swiss cheese on Rye. It came out hot and really was packed with pastrami. The bread was fresh and if you don't eat it qui k enough the bread can get soaked with the juices of the sandwich. (More of a next day scenario, really) I really did like the sandwich. Also, I got the BBQ ranch chicken salad as a separate entree since I was going to be on the road and didn't want to stop. I ate this later and was good but may have been better if I ate it at the restaurant. It's still good, though, no complaints. Great sandwiches! I would suggest making a reservation ahead of time if you can because they do get quite busy. The hostess and servers are very nice and attentive. Wonderful service! There are so many options on the menu it's hard to choose. I ended up with the chicken salad sandwich, pasta salad, and house salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The sandwich and pasta salad were delicious. Probably the best chicken salad I've had. Bread was very fresh. The house salad was alright, almost too bitter for me. Eh, what a mediocre lunch. Way overpriced, and obviously still living off their past glory days and reaping the benefit of their name in the form of an annuity. The sandwich sure looks large, until you realize that all the meat is only placed in the center of the bread, with NO meat anywhere near the crust or edge of the bread. If you move the meat evenly on the bread, you end up with a very average size sandwich. On a positive note, the pastrami was good, as was the rye bread. Service was only fair. We placed our drinks order, and server only brought out water, and then wanted to take our food order. What a blast from the past. I could hangout in this restaurant/ deli all day. First the coffee was delicious. I got the Chicago dog. To my surprise, the food was all really good...and I am not a big sandwich person. But this is the famous Milton's, who makes bread and crackers sold all over! The pastrami is superior to the corned beef by far; pastrami is salty, has more flavor, and is more firm. (I had a bite of other people's sandwiches; combo pastrami and corned beef would probably be good too but pastrami is definitely the tastier meat.) I had the half sandwich, which came with choice of side (coleslaw, potato salad pasta salad--to which I had coleslaw that was really good). I selected chicken noodle, to which I give kudos for the plating -- bunch of noodle, bunch of white meat chicken, bunch of carrots in a bowl filled with warm broth. (I added my own salt and pepper) The soup was very hearty! Home made chips were nice and the fries had an extra crisp on the batter, as if were double fried. The bakery when you first enter the restaurant is very impressive. We ordered a slice of German chocolate cake (not a big deal and would not necessarily recommend) but the lemon bar was really good and a nice size. If your kid finds all the words in the puzzle on the child's mat, your kid gets a cookie!! So kudos for that!! Menu had a lot of variety--breakfast all day; baby back ribs; sandwiches; salads.
