Okay, it's all about the butter and salt for me. These donuts have that perfect crisp outside with a light, fluffy, slightly cakey center. So good. The traditional sprinkled yeast-raised donut was also super good. At around $5 each and ~400 calories, they're definitely not cheap or light, but I think they're worth it for an occasional treat. Not an everyday donut situation--but when you want to treat yourself to a really good donut, this hits the spot.
I was expecting great doughnuts and I got great doughnuts. The doughnuts were really fresh, warm and soft. My favorite of the three flavors we got was the pumpkin cinnamon roll. It was one of the best cinnamon rolls I have ever had. It was also cooked how I prefer my cinnamon rolls, which is with a very soft and chewy middle. The pecans were a great touch and made it perfect. The old fashioned was also really good. It had a good flavor and great texture. The strawberry buttermilk was the doughnut we were looking forward to the most and it also delivered. While still not as good as the cinnamon roll, it still really really good. We also got a latte, not pictured. It was good and coffee isn't an after thought at this place. It accompanied the doughnuts really well. While we were there the place was definitely busy but I wouldn't say packed. Although very busy, we got assistance quickly.
I've been waiting to try this place for soooooo long! I'm so glad I get to finally try their donuts! Ambiance was top-notch--the smell of donuts will hit you the moment you pull their door open. It was bright and inviting inside. Their aesthetic was a blend of modern minimalist, and I loved it. Service was quick and staff was very friendly. She was patient and cheerfully offered recommendations, which we beyond appreciated. She also offered some samples of some of their donuts and they were pretty much fresh off the oven. And speaking of donuts... oh, the donuts were HEAVENLY. They were all still warm when we got them in our box. Every single one we got was soft, pillowy and decadent with just the right amount of sweetness. Some of them were so unique that I never thought it'd work well being a donut, but it did! Flavors we tried: Passionfruit Pavlova Mango Sticky Rice Choc-a-lot Maple Bacon Butter & Salt Old Fashion Saigon Cinnamon Crumb The biggest surprise was the Mango Sticky Rice--very unique and tasty at the same time. It was a donut and a dessert in one. My favorite was the Maple Bacon--sweet & salty is always a winner for me, but it was the bacon that was crunchy and NOT old & chewy that really brought this one home for me. I already see us coming back here soon. Next time though, I'd love to try one of their coffee drinks too!
$5 per donut but honestly SO worth it. Literally the perfect amount of breadiness/chew/even crunch on a donut. I got the old fashioned and it was perfectly sweet, not overly sweet at all. Paired really well with their cold brew, but it was a bit on the bitter side. Next time I would try a donut with an iced americano to cut the sweetness instead. I love that they have rotating flavors and specials, Wednesdays they have cinnamon rolls and Fridays they have apple fritters. Employees were very friendly, line moved fast too.

I tried their banana latte & it was delicious. I am a fan of their rewards program through their app. Ambiance: the vibe here is great and the shop is generally very clean when I go & there is plenty of parking in the plaza they're in.
Came on national donut day which landed on a Fri this year. The shop was busy but line moved fast. I got the strawberry buttermilk and a latte this time. The texture on these donuts is still 10/10. I think the flavor fell a little short this time. The "strawberry" donut component barely had any strawberry pieces. Most of the flavor of the donut came from the glaze which tasted a bit like artificial strawberry to me. Latte was well made and tasted very smooth.

Found myself on a rare trek to N County today and that was a good excuse to finally try this hyped donut spot. I really liked the setup, where you can clearly see all the different donut varieties arrayed upon an outer ring counter while servers on the inner ring efficiently dish up donuts to the guests in line. The options were diverse, so I chose a six pack including chocolate, huckleberry, blueberry cheesecake and vegan Samoa. My favorite was the blueberry cheesecake since it was a lighter, yeast donut and contained a generous blueberry compote filling with a fresh tasting cream topping. Unfortunately, the other donuts weren't to my liking since they all featured dense, cakey and slightly dry crumbs which made me feel like I was eating a sweet bread instead of a light and fluffy donut. Can't knock Sidecar too much for my donut texture personal preference, but at $30 for a half dozen, I was expecting to enjoy more than just one out of six.
This place has to be one of my all time favorite doughnut shops! Located in Del Mar, it's the perfect spot to grab some coffee and delicious sweets before getting the day started! Every Sidecar doughnut is made from scratch and fresh every hour! And they only use the finest ingredients! Highly recommend the huckleberry 10/10! You can never go wrong with an old fashioned 9/10! But my all time seasonal favorite is the passion fruit 11/10! Pure deliciousness!!!! I also tried the banana iced latte for the very first time- so good! Prices are high, but totally worth every penny! The quality of ingredients and service is absolutely amazing! The vibe is sleek, quaint and colorful! And the staff are so friendly and welcoming! It's about a 25-30 min drive from my house, but totally worth it for the freshest doughnuts in town!
Doughnuts should not be allowed to be this delicious..... a little on the pricey side, but I don't mind paying a little extra for great quality. We're hooked!

Overview: good donuts but service could use some improvement, small shop with exclusively outside seating ---- After a birthday celebration lunch nearby, we decided to grab some dessert in the same plaza. Someone suggested sidecar donuts and I was super excited for such unique flavors! They have a happy hour on Mondays thru Thursdays from 12pm-4pm and it's advertised on a sandwich board outside. We didn't see it until after we had exited and the worker inside never mentioned it to us either :( ---- I forget what the happy hour deal was but it was along the lines of buy x donuts and get a free drink and our party in total fulfilled that requirement but purchased separately. There was only the one sign outside and as mentioned before, the employee working the front never brought it up. My bf got the maple bacon one for $5.75, I really enjoyed how much bacon there was on top. The flavors of the maple and the bacon are a classic combination and they complimented each other well without one overpowering the other. Inside the store was pretty small, and there's some seating outside. This donut shop probably has the best donuts I've ever had in my life. Butter and salt is my favorite, the others are very tasty as well. Service is fast even if there's long lines at times. Very clean inside and smells delicious. Definitely recommend. read more

Sidecar is my favorite doughbut shop in SD! Came around noon on a Friday and luckily it wasnt busy at all. I came to try their limited summer item the Mango Sticky Rice (collab with Van Leeuwen). It definitely didn't disappoint. The dough itself was very light and soft. It was topped with a fresh mango and coconut sticky rice. I appreciated it wasnt overly sweet. They definitely did the mango sticky rice justice. Definitely come try it while it lasts! read more

You know what's a great way to end a busy night? Grabbing some sidecar donuts. My friend and I arrive pretty late after dinner and yet there was still a good amount of donuts available to choose from. The small shop was busy and had a decent crowd, but the service was so good that everyone was taken care of relatively quickly. I got a variety of donuts and so did my friend, everything looked mouthwatering (despite us being full from dinner). I really want to come back again soon, all the donuts were really really good, fresh, and lasted me over the span of a couple of days (assuming stored well). I like this location because I've personally never really had to wait! I think it's a cute little spot but not much seating besides outside or in the mall area a few steps away. As for the donuts themselves I do like but you have to like the cake style and dense because they have few fluffy style ones. Overall the best one is the og huckleberry and Saigon cinnamon crumb is a follow up. read more
I was in this shopping plaza and the name of the shop called out to me. I was surprised it was still open since it was closer to evening time. I do realize they serve coffee though. I have heard of these doughnuts before so I wanted to go inside and at least get 1 to try! I ended up getting 3. The flavors are pretty unique and each one sounded so delicious. These are not cheap donuts. 1. Maple Bacon- Raised doughnut topped with pure Vermont Maple Syrup glaze and crispy, all-natural bacon Donut itself was delicious. It had a crispier outside an softer in the middle. Glaze was delicious, bacon was ok. I tend to like less bacon in general as long as it's super crispy bacon. 4/5 2.Strawberry Buttermilk- Fruity, ripe strawberries folded into our buttermilk cake, dipped in our silky sweet & perfectly tart, house-made strawberry glaze! 5/5 3.Butter & Salt- Vanilla bean cake doughnut with brown butter glaze and fleur de sel. This was my favorite doughnut. So delicious. 5/5 This one I wanted to try but it was sold out: Crispy French Toast- Buttery brioche, dipped in a honey & whipped brown butter glaze, covered in crunchy caramelized corn flakes, filled with a sweet strawberry compote, and topped with a fresh whipped cream and strawberries. (sounds incredible and I don't even like French toast) They even have a savory one: Basil Egg Benedict-Our Malasada-style doughnut filled with poached egg, Benton's Country Ham, and a house made basil hollandaise sauce.(only until 11 am) I did not get any coffee this round. All I want and dream about is a San Diego more central location. Why why do I have to drive to Del Mar for heaven? Hands down my favorite donuts. I've never been a fan of cake donuts but these are fresh, hot, and melt in your mouth. Coffee isn't great but I always regret not getting more. Do I need to eat multiple? No but I will. The butter and salt are my favorite but they are all delicious. They are also open till 7pm which is a gift. When I worked near by I was bad and would go once a week, thankfully I'm now remote. Service is always spectacular and I love how the tell you if a fresh order is coming out so you never miss out. Never too busy and ample parking. read more

I picked up some doughnuts at Sidecar one night earlier this month courtesy of a Too Good To Go offer -- five doughnuts for $6.99. The TGTG bags were already packed and ready to go when i arrived. Four of the doughnuts were great -- don't worry, I didn't eat them in one sitting. The fifth was a chocolate doughnut that didn't float my boat. Overall, a very good experience. read more
We don't often use their mobile app to order (only to check what donuts are available that day). Today we used their mobile app to order donuts and it was a great experience. I'm usually nervous the donuts won't be freshly made but today proved me wrong . All the donuts were still slightly warm and packaged perfectly. Service was efficient and kind this afternoon as well . The soonest pickup option was 30min so it's not ideal if you need donuts asap. The experience has renewed my faith in the white chocolate banana donut as today's version was bomb . The white chocolate glaze was perfect and we loved the generous amount of toasted walnuts ! Kudos do whoever made this batch today . They have a fantastic Black Friday special until 1/2/26 (buy $25 gift card and get a free donut card ) so I've always gotten that for friends and family . read more

It's a very small shop, so it's not the type of place you sit and eat there, just go in, get your stuff, and get going. The display of donuts is so great, because you can see everything all at once. Went again for the raspberry malasada and a few others! Again, ordered online, but staff was very quick and friendly when I came to pick up. All the donuts have a higher quality to them than the typical pink box cheap donuts, normally I'd taste a lingering sugary flavor after eating donuts, but I don't get that with these. Festive celebration - heavy almond taste, cake like, sprinkles on the inside and icing on top is not super flavorful just sweet Saigon cinnamon crumb bites - huge compared to regular donut holes, but very good. The coating almost reminds me of the Costco churros but with more coating and denser, cake part inside was super good Butter and salt - tasted like a plain cake donut, wasn't super thrilled by it, but good Apple pie pan - very soft donut, the frosting on top was light but sweet, apple pieces inside were good and tasted like actual apple, not just the stuff you get from a can Cookies and creme - exactly what you would expect, chocolate donut with cookies and creme frosting Biscoff cookie butter - very good, the pieces of cookie on top were a nice touch and the frosting had actual cookie butter inside, the donut itself was almost gingerbread like Raspberry malasada - excellent but very tart! The filling was basically spilling out, if you like raspberry but not like the super sweet processed regular raspberry, you'll love this. I just wish there was a little more powdered sugar. Fresh doughnuts served hot. So delicious I had a Huckleberry doughnut, Strawberry, maple bacon, so fresh and warm and they just melt in your mouth. All of their doughnuts were fresh. The service was absolutely wonderful. The place is beautiful. read more
One of my favorite stops for a sweet treat! The huckleberry and butter & salt are the best, and my go-to's. The seasonal flavors always are interesting but when I actually try them, it's hit or miss. Sidecar Donuts in Del Mar has completely spoiled me. Every time I visit, I'm reminded why it's one of my favorite dessert spots in North County. The shop is always spotless, the atmosphere is fun and energetic, and the staff is consistently warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable about their menu. What really sets Sidecar apart is the quality. You can tell they use top-tier ingredients, and every donut tastes fresh, handcrafted, and made with attention to detail. I've tried everything from their classic glazed donuts to their rotating seasonal specialties, and I honestly haven't had a bad one yet. Even the simpler menu items stand out because they're executed so well. Their creative flavors keep things interesting, while favorites like the Butter & Salt and Huckleberry showcase how good a donut can be when quality comes first. That said, my hands-down favorite is the Apple Fritter. It's crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, packed with real apple flavor, and finished with just the right amount of sweetness. Every time I visit, I tell myself I'm going to try something new, and somehow I end up ordering the fritter again. If you're in Del Mar and have even a slight sweet tooth, Sidecar is absolutely worth the stop. Great ingredients, incredible donuts, friendly staff, and a fun atmosphere make this one of those places you'll find yourself coming back to again and again. read more
