This review is way overdue.. I used to work at GA in Poway & would order their infamous cream puffs for staff meetings and/or get togethers like potlucks & they were always a hit! I got to know Kim, the wife & co-owner (forgot the husband's name). It's always great to support small businesses in the area. Their donuts are fresh & always good! I like what another reviewer stated about supporting locally-owned small businesses (unlike the name-brand across the street that's a huge franchise donut company, which by the way, serves stiff & old donuts that are baked & transported to San Diego daily). Please support this local donut shop! You won't regret it!! I highly recommend their cream puffs, they sell out quickly, so if you want to get them, please order a day ahead of time. They say they're open, but twice now I've gone here and it's been closed. Either they leave 30m early or they're just not open. And which review is correct? I see this facility under 2 different names. The location is next to a supermarket and a haircut place but looks empty at all times in the past whenever I came to this plaza the past 20 years. My new go to donut spot! Heard about this shop from a friend and they did not disappoint. They are located in the Lucky Seafood plaza next to TK Noodles. I needed several hundred donut holes morning of which is typically very difficult to obtain. I called early on a Sunday morning at 7 am and the owner picked up and said she would do her best to reserve as many as possible. I came through at 7:30 am for pickup and was thrilled to find that she was able to reserve 20 dozen donuts for me or 240 donuts morning of. I added a dozen sprinkled donuts. The owner gave me a free glazed donut. Donuts were delicious and rich. There were a couple of regulars in the shop in the early morning getting coffee and donuts. I absolutely love a family owned donut spot (I am obnoxiously proud that I have never been to Dunkin's) and Donut Stop knocked it out of the park! I dropped by after stopping at Bale next door, and they had a full selection of donuts given that it was fairly early in the morning. These Asian mom-and-pop shops all look fairly similar, dark and minimal with vinyl booths, refrigerated drinks to the side, and display counters to the front. Service was friendly and I appreciated that the woman at the counter asked if I wanted my donuts packed together or in separate bags. I heard good things about their blueberry donuts so of course had to get one. I also got a maple buttermilk bar, a cute little cream puff, and a maple bacon bar. I had the cream puff immediately and the texture was very light and flaky, contrasting perfectly with the silky sweet cream. It went down so easily and I can see why these sell by the dozen. The maple buttermilk bar was perfectly dense and sweet, with a hint of saltiness that really ties the whole thing together. The inside was so soft and each bite was heaven paired with some black tea. I had the maple bacon bar and blueberry donut the next day and they held up well. The blueberry donut was actually AMAZING, with real fruit and no artificial taste. It had the perfect light and airy cake donut texture, with a sugar glaze on top making it more toothsome. I am glad I only got one blueberry donut, as I could definitely see myself eating three in one go if given the opportunity. The maple bacon was the "plainest" of the bunch, not that it was not good. It was a predictable, comforting, sweet, salty, savory bite. There was plenty of bacon and the donut itself was fluffy. Overall, I think I found my favorite donut spot in Mira Mesa. Prices are reasonable and they have flavors and offerings that are different than other donut shops. I'll definitely stop by any time I'm satisfying my Vietnamese food craving in the area! read more

When I was still working I would stop on my way to work and pick up donuts for the office. That was when they opened early, I mean real early. I stopped by right before noon so there wasn't much of a selection left, but I was still able to find ones I was interested in trying. I got the blueberry buttermilk and custard filled donuts. The blueberry buttermilk was delicious, and tasted almost like a fried blueberry muffin. The custard was also good, with even amounts of filling. The best part of the shop is the friendly woman behind the counter. She was very welcoming and helped me with a constant smile on her face. The shop is small and a little untidy, but it doesn't matter much if you're just coming in and out to pick up some donuts. I've been living in Mira Mesa over 30 years and Donut Stop has been here longer! When I first moved out here I used to use the pay phones ... yes I said pay phones over by Big Lots to call my out of state family(always had calling cards on deck haha) anyway.. I would always stop at Donut Stop first and grab a donut and a can of Diet Coke. The customer service and donuts were exceptional then and still are!! Dunkin will be opening down the street in a few months but I encourage everybody to support the mom and pop places too!! I come every Friday and get 3 dozen for my guys at work. Never disappointed friendliest couple ever! Every time I go in they are so welcoming to all their customers. Everyone seems to be regulars knowing exactly what they want going in. It's a small shop with a few tables. I just had a craving for donuts so I only wanted to grab a couple. They had a huge variety of the classic donuts: glazed, chocolate, twisters, and more!! They also had cake donuts in blue berry and apple I think. I ended up getting a glazed, chocolate and blueberry cake donut. ALL WERE SO yummy!!!! The glazed and chocolate ones were so fluffy, light and perfectly sweet. The cake one was dense and I could really taste the blue berry. It was sooo yummy. Also those three costed only $2.60! I have to update my review since re-reading the old one.. it probably wasn't so fair to judge on donuts at the end of a day. Came this morning amidst the covid crazy and it was nice to see a small family business work so hard and put in strong efforts to keep themselves and their customers safe. They put up plexiglass.. they put signs on the floor to ensure spacing.. and they work starting 4:30 AM.. serving a lot of laborers that are coming in for a quick and cheap bite before they go out to work. It wasn't crowded but they worked hard to ensure everyone got in, got their donut, got out.. even before 7AM. I think there might have been an ownership change.. I don't think the lady is vietnamese... Thai maybe? Either way they are SUPER nice and work very very hard. She was very kind and big smiles for how early it was in the morning. I grabbed a dozen classic-style donuts like blueberry (yum!), apple, sprinkles, bacon, crumb, and bear claw (TO DIE FOR). The dough tastes clean and fresh. If you come early in the morning.. you absolutely must get a dozen of their cream puffs. Light airy balls of dough with lightly sweetened cream. They have such a pleasant squish in the mouth with just the right amount of sweetness. Add a hot coffee and your morning is already off to a great start.
