Pastries were good, even if there wasn't that much selection to choose from. It was only 5pm, so they would be open for a while still. I got the coconut raisin twist (identical to 85°), ham and cheese stuffed bagel (actually a roll), the black Sesame mochi roll, and the green onion pastry. They all tasted good, but I felt they were all slightly higher price than made sense. The 4 pastries came to $12, where I feel I usually get a little more for that money (at 85°). Cashier wasn't very friendly, no smile and only contact was to ask if I wanted to buy a bag for my purchase (no thanks). Really small location, so no indoor seating. Parking can get a little difficult, because there's just so much in this shopping center. read more

A good alternative to 85°. We came here to get some dessert after Shawarma Guys. Same plaza about a few doors down. I got a slice of strawberry cake, and their version of milk bread. It's a little bit more expensive, and the strawberry short cake at Parjs is a little better but I did really like their version of the milk bread. Bring your own bags, they charge for one. read more

This review is solely for their $1.29 Napoleon egg tart and $1 Portuguese egg tart. Both were baked to flakey perfection, had jiggly custard filling and were not too sweet. Honestly, the value of these is insane. There's not much you can get for $1 nowadays, and everyone could use a sweet treat. The packaging from this location was nicer than what I received from another location (box vs plastic clamshell container). I'm not sure if that's normal, but I did want to mention this because I frequently purchase egg tarts as gifts (and they're a hit every time). I was around in the area and decided to drop by. Besides the scallion bread pictured I have also tried their box cakes. When I entered the store the staff welcomed me which was so sweet! Personally for the food I would rate it 3.5/5 because it's not bad but nothing stands out. The quality is just kind of average. They do have a lot of options. Like the bread tasted not too fresh. This was probably one of my favorite bakeries when I lived in Mira Mesa. I went so often, I likely gained weight from all the pastries and drinks! It didn't help that it was practically walking distance from me too. I once tried their black sesame milk tea, and it was SO good. I couldn't adjust the sweetness at the time, which was odd, but the worker assured me it wasn't too sweet. And it wasn't! Honestly, nothing they had to offer really looked or sounded appealing. We ended up settling for some of the lava mooncakes: Pistachio Milk and Molten Chocolate. Staff was rude at checkout and didn't say a word other than the total to us. The chocolate one was the best out of the two, but that doesn't mean it was actually good. I came here a few times this past week because of their egg tarts promotion. I love egg tarts and theirs were pretty good. The crust was flaky, buttery and custard in the middle wasn't too sweet. Best of all, it's only $1 during the promotional period. I also got Thai ice tea and Vietnamese coffee during my visit. I'd say they were not good. I threw away the Thai tea because it didn't taste like real Thai tea and was too sweet. I drank Vietnamese coffee after i added in more milk to dilute the sweetness. It also didn't taste like real Vietnamese coffee (i got both a lot when I visit the countries). Unfortunately i won't be getting their drinks again. read more

I had never heard of Sunmerry before so was really keen to check it out, I love that the sign inside said "Not Too Sweet," that is exactly what I want for a pastries, not overly sweet just the perfect amount. It was really late in evening so there weren't a lot of options but did get to see from the photos on the display that they have so delicious treats. I ended up getting a taro concha and a bbq pork bolo, when we got to the register I noticed the wheel and asked what it was for, the cashier had mentioned that every purchase you can spin it so I spun it got a 50% off a drink order. At that moment, I wasn't even thinking of getting a drink but opted for it since it would be under $4. I chose the taro milk tea and after we paid, I looked around the store further. They have a plethora of moon cake options and noticed how cute the cake display was and really inexpensive for the 6 inch cakes. When I got my milk tea I was a little confused at hue of my milk tea it was more so grey/brown instead of purple, I tried it when I got home and was thrown off at how it tasted burnt? Should have ordered an easy Tiger Milk Tea instead but can't complain too much since I did get it 50% off. The taro concha on the other hand was perfect, it was purple and beautiful and it tasted just right, not too sweet but definitely can taste the taro. I haven't gotten to try the pork bbq bolo but I am assuming it's just as tasty, if you're in the neighborhood I'd really recommend checking them out but maybe hold off on the drinks. read more

Horrible service! especially when you come to get their bogo promotion. We bought 6 pastries and when I asked for the bogo, the girl was like "only the salted cream today, and no you cannot pick" with the most disrespectful tone as i only there for the free mercy. Once she got the drink, she poured the tea into the cup and swirled some salted cream on top, it got all over the cup (outside), then sealed the cup up and almost throw it on the table. Both cup were sticky and bland since it's only green tea with salted cream. If i am the owner I would fire that worker (or myself) right on the spot! It's tucked into a plaza, so parking can be a little tricky, but they do have handicap spaces and even a charging station which is a plus. Inside, the shop is clean, bright, and has a really inviting layout. The staff was friendly right when we walked in, and the display of buns and pastries definitely catches your eye. Everything looks super fresh, and honestly, I think 85°C might have a little competition here. We picked up 2 Dirty Buns (chocolate lovers, this one's for you), 3 Sweet Milk buns with filling, and a walnut cookie. The total came out to about $15.32, which is on the pricier side, but they do run a special--buy 5, get 1 free (the cheaper one free)--which helps a bit. Haven't tried the pastries yet, but based on the overall vibe, presentation, and service, I'd definitely come back and update once I taste-test everything. For now, solid 4 stars! read more

It's Mooncake season and the plethora of shapes and flavors are amazing! Normally moon cakes are big to share with multiple friends but Sunmerry has cute mini one bite moon cakes. I picked up two: Taro mochi and Oolong tea Matcha. I also picked up a Green Tea Matcha Croissant topped with sliced almonds and powered sugar! Tastes amazing! Go get some! This one-star review is solely about an unacceptable customer service experience and has nothing to do with the quality of your food. I visited on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 12:10 p.m. My server was a young man named John. Unfortunately, he was rude, impatient, and appeared uninterested in helping customers. I had never ordered any drinks from your store before and wanted to try one of the special promotional oolong beverages. When I asked John about the oolong drink series and requested some guidance, he was dismissive and unhelpful. I ultimately ordered the Osmanthus Oolong Milk Tea, but I was given an Osmanthus Oolong Tea instead. When I politely pointed out that the drink was not what I had ordered, John seemed unconcerned and made no effort to correct the mistake. As a result, I ended up throwing the drink away because it was overly sweet and not what I wanted. I have been a loyal customer for some time and have always enjoyed your products, which makes this experience particularly disappointing. I hope management will address this matter and provide additional customer service training. I have never encountered such a cavalier attitude at your establishment before, and the experience left a very negative impression. This bakery is very conveniently located in the Mira Mesa shopping plaza nestled with Panda Express, Buffalo Wild Wings, Shawarma Guys, and Bafang dumpling. I came at night after dinner to get breakfast for the week. Unfortunately, the selection is very limited in the evenings as they likely have sold out of most of their popular items. I was able to grab the garlic cheese bread and hot dog filled salt bread - both of which are solid. Wanted a treat while we were in Mira Mesa and came across Sunmerrey Bakery and what a nice treat. The friendly staff was available to answer questions and checkout was a breeze. We picked up several sweet items and a couple savory. Unfortunately, while the store displays are very helpful, once you leave the store we had no idea what the items were as nothing was in English. All good, just a slight bummer. That said everything was wonderful. Fresh, delicious and worth another trip! One thing I loved was the sweets weren't too sweet. Really delightful and I'd recommend d a stop to check them out! Unfortunately we don't live in Mira Mesa so I doubt I'd make it a destination (traffic is slightly better than Convoy) but if we're in the area I guarantee we're going to make a stop to fill our bakery cravings!!! read more

I was looking for some asian pastries and found this place after a quick yelp search. As soon as we reached, we were happy to see that there was plenty of parking. Once we walked in, there was a short line and it moved quickly. They have a concept where you take a tray and pick all the pastries you want. I got the green onion bun and the garlic parsley bread. I took both the pastries to go because I was in a rush. I think the prices were pretty moderate. I first tried the green onion bun. It had strong flavors of spring onion, and the bread was really soft. However, it was a bit too sweet for my liking, unfortunately. Next, I tried the garlic parsley bread. This one was really flavorful, and the bread itself was very soft. Unlike the other pastry this was not overly oily and tasted perfect. We went on Sunday to buy a last minute cake for Father's Day . Sis said she bought a cake from their LA location and the whipped cream tasted fresh on the cake . A manager noticed us looking at the cake display and asked if we needed help. We said we were thinking about the strawberry cake and asked if it was freshly made. I think he said it was made same day and the whipped cream used was fresh like Tous de Jours (as we asked if it matched them). I asked him to check and he came back and said ok well the strawberry jam was freshly made and maybe the whipped cream was fresh as well. We purchased the cake based on what he said. The cake was bad. The whipped cream was artificial - like straight from a whipped frosting bucket. The strawberry jam tasted like regular store bought jam for bread. The cake itself was fluffy. The 6 strawberries on top were fine. The packaging was also poor - one side of the cake was smashed and a finger print was on one side as well. We ended up scrapping all the frosting off and just eating the cake. Not worth the $40+ spent. I wouldn't purchase a cake here again. read more

They don't do honest business here (at this location). Advertised outside $1.49 for Napoleon and $1 for Portuguese egg tarts. I ordered 6 Portuguese, so it should've been $1x6 but they did $1.49x6. I asked them about it and the cashier outside told me that the price outside is what they go by. I was so confused because the other location (convoy) honored their advertised prices. I can tell the difference between Napoleon and Portuguese egg tarts. I don't understand why I had to pay extra 0.49 And another inconsistency. Advertised as hot, but the ones I got were cold. They should try to keep them warm at least. Would I come back here again? Not really. They can use some improvement on their customer service and practice doing more honest business.
