We are so happy to found this gem! Donuts are delicious and the Milanese & chavo tortas are a must!

I love this place the only problem is they sell out so fast so if you go around 10am you might not get the donuts you want or the breakfast tortas . Coffee is ok . Horchata is 9/10 . My favorite donut is the Bigote, masapan . Would give five stars if they had better coffee and didn't have such a limited selection after 10am . Staff is always friendly 10/10

The proof. My opinion is validated!

The best donuts and savory pork tamales and tortas served alongside the best Mexican coffee drinks from cafe de olla, horchatas, and champurrado. It's all made with much love and such great service by the welcoming ladies ready to serve you with a smile. The establishment itself is intimate but very inviting and clean with a handful of small tables. Still the reigning champ of donuts!

Super impressed by this shop! First time I had a sample was at a Yelp Event so I made sure to come back and try more of their menu items. The shop is cute and small, all you really need. There were a couple of seats in there if you wanted to dine in, but we ordered online and took ours to go. The flavors of their donuts are really unique. It stays true to Mexican Heritage with flavors such as Horchata, Chocolate Abuelita & Arroz Con Leche. We tried the Horchata [$3.00] which was really good & really got the flavor the drink. This was a better option than the normal chocolate glazed [$2.00] I got. It was still good, but I wish the coating of chocolate was a bit thicker. It was pretty think so once that flavor ran out, all you got was the dough. Which let me you was really good dough! Also tried their Egg & Cheese w/Bacon torta [$11.50] which didn't disappoint. Loved every bite! Big enough to share if you're not as hungry. Our order was ready for pick-up so we didn't wait that long & there is plenty of parking in the area. Overall, I'd definitely come back to Barrio Donas to try their other donut flavors as well as their tamales. They were sold out the day we went.

loved the unique flavors & quality. we got a jamaica donut (the glaze tasted of real jamaica & not just flavoring) & a churro donut (the dough was rly like a churro, unlike most "churro" things that just have cinnamon sugar & call it a day). we went at a random time in the middle of the day & they still tasted fresh. reasonably priced too at $3 for specialty donuts, bougie places try to charge you double. also liked the cute lil sign - gordita, redondita y bien bonita :)

This place has a cute interior and offers a fun variety of Mexican donut flavors like arroz con leche and Gansito, to name a few. The arroz donut actually had arroz con leche inside, which made it dense but enjoyable. I also tried their café de olla with horchata -- I ordered it with more café de olla than horchata, thinking it would be less sweet but it was still a bit too sweet for my taste. Flavor-wise, though, it was unique and worth trying. The breakfast torta was pretty good -- a bit more bread than filling, but still satisfying overall. The staff was friendly and welcoming. A couple of suggestions: I'd love to see a self-serve water station or at least water cups available. Also, for being the morning, it felt a bit too warm inside during my visit -- the AC didn't seem to be on or strong enough, which took away slightly from the experience as we dined-in. Small detail, their cups (hot and iced) had no logos of the business or stickers on them. Maybe it's just this location bc I noticed the other locations' cups have logos and such. Hubby asked about their stickers bc they had the display stand perched up top but the lady said they had not ordered any more. Shame because we would've bought them! Overall, a creative spot with delicious donuts -- just a few tweaks would make it even better!

Stopped in to grab a sweet treat. Sunday around 2:30pm there was no line. The shop is very cute with simple but trendy decor. Their menu had hot breakfast items, coffee, and more. W We came for the donuts. 6 donuts for about $20. You order 6 you get $1.50 off. The donuts were named and inspired by Mexican/Hispanic culture. My favorite was the lemon donut. Followed by the guava. 4 stars because although the name and flavors were fancy, the donuts weren't very basic.

My favorite Mexican donut and coffee shop. I love supporting unique local businesses and the owner is so friendly and kind. The croqueta donut was so soft and their glaze wasn't too overly sweet which I prefer. Don't skip out on their matcha menu to the right of the store. And I love their sticker collection. I've been to both locations also National City. Love their selection of tortas

Horchata and Cafe de Olla

Small donut shop in Clairemont Mesa with delicious Mexican inspired sweet treats. The Cafe de olla with Horchata is a must try, you won't regret it. The ladies behind the counter are some of the nicest people you'll ever met and very friendly and welcoming.

Top left (Chocolate Abuelita), Top right (Choco Mazapan), Bottom (Gansito basically old fashioned in a bar form)

Date of Visit: 6.15.2025 Cuisine Type: Donut shop Vibe: Clean, chill, modern cafesque space Cost: ~$8-$15 per person depending on how much you order What I Ordered & How It Was: Most of the donuts has similar raised dough texture. They are fluffy with bit of bounce after the bite (very welcomed and surprising) Chocolate Abuelita (Hot Chocolate Glaze/ Chocolate Buttercream/Dark Chocolate Curls and tiny marshmallows) - 4/5 - The chocolate is very noticeable here... $3.75. Choco Mazapan (Peanut Butter Glaze/Mazapan Crumble/Chocolate Drizzle) - Mazapan is a peanut candy similar sounding to its sister marzipan which is an almond candy. - 4.5/5 - I liked the differing textures and mixture of peanut and chocolate. This layering of flavors gives a crunch as well as two unique flavors that naturally work well together. Gansito (Basically old fashioned in a bar form) - 5/5 - It is an old fashioned donut in bar form (I love old fashioned...so maybe biased). The dough is different from the other ones it is evenly deep fried on all side. This creates a crispy exterior followed by the cake like interior all covered with melted chocolate. Just the best Tamales (Chicken) - 5/5 - Literally the best tamales i've had in my life. It is NOT DRY! wow it is super tender and basically falls apart. The corn is not dry either it is very saturated with the chicken juice and maybe fat? The who experience of eating the tamales went from disinterest to sharing of such wonders to others (usually this comes out later so you can enjoy your donuts first while you wait) Service & Atmosphere: Service: Very friendly staff. It has modern donut shop vibes. You will still see the display window with all of your options. Just looks very well maintained. Ambiance: When i go here it usually isn't busy, but then it would be off-peak hours. Great space to just hangout and do morning stuff. Overall Thoughts: Best thing I ate: Tamales Something to improve: I am probably just grasping at straws here but i think the donuts dough to sugar ratio can be adjusted a lil bit maybe less dough? Would I come back? See ya next week!

Cubana Tortas w/ avocado

Was going to Happy Barber on Clairemont Mesa and wanted to eat first. Normally, I'd try to drop by Ee Nami, but it wasn't open at the time. Decided to have a torta instead. If you see Cotixan next to the street, that's the center where this is located. Service was very friendly and fast. There is a beautiful display case of the various donut options. I asked for an opinion of which torta to get and was told to go with the Cubana. It was a good amount of food for the price and tasted fantastic.

If you are looking for a soft and fluffy donut, look no further!! I ordered the Horchata glazed and it did not disappoint. They had many unique flavors like Cajeta, Choco Marapan and Guayaba that will keep me coming back. I also ordered the Horchata & Olla iced coffee, and although a little sweet was a nice change!! I also will be back to try the torta. I missed out on their donuts at a yelp event, so I decided to give them a try myself. After reading reviews, I almost changed my mind. But the service was welcoming and patient as I made my choices. They also welcomed all their patrons kindly. I read an article posted on the wall that the new owners took over their father's previous Mexican donut business at this location. They have made great improvements and made it their own.

Top: Lemon, Jamaica Middle: Horchata, Chocolate Abuelita Bottom: Chocolate Sprinkles, Concha with Strawberry Sprinkles
Samantha D.

My boyfriend has been craving donuts for a very long time now and Barrio Donas really hit the spot. I'm not really a fan of donuts but these were honestly really delicious! Came here after a late lunch around 3pm and the donuts were still incredibly fluffy and not stale at all!!! I was SHOOK!!!! If you buy 5 donuts the 6th is half off or free, I don't quite remember. From my favorite to least: Chocolate Abuelita, Horchata, Lemon, Chocolate Sprinkles, Jamaica, Concha with Strawberry Sprinkles. The Chocolate Abuelita was hands down my favorite donut. It was a regular glazed donut with the top dipped in chocolate, covered in mini marshmallows and chocolate chips. The Horchata wasn't as cinnamon-y as I was expecting but it was still decent. The Lemon one was filled, it had a custard inside. Chocolate Sprinkles was a chocolate donut dipped in chocolate, with sprinkles. Although I enjoy Jamaica drinks, I thought this donut was a little too sour (which is pretty odd since I love sour tasting things). Least favorite was the Concha, it was too bread-like and dry compared to the fluffy goodness of the donuts. All in all the donuts were AMAZING!!! I could only imagine the massive selection if I had come in the morning instead of a late afternoon.

Cheaper by the 1/2 dozen or dozen.

We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!
