The Golden Donut makes some pretty good doughnuts. In fact, I has their cinnamon and sugar cronut. Yes, cronut, people are still making them. It was a very good cronut and came with those great croissant buttery layers and that softness of a great doughnut. Although most patrons bought their doughnuts to go, the shop does offer inside and outside seating, which I took advantage of to enjoy my purchase. OVERPRICED!. $10 got me two doughnuts & six doughnut holes. I might have made this my regular doughnut shop if I didn't feel like a rip off. One of the doughnuts was a special doughnut (cinnamon) so it was $4 but I'm still trying to figure out how one raised doughnut with sprinkles & six doughnut holes cost another $6?! For these prices I'd go to a gourmet doughnut place or Arely's on the other side of the freeway. As a doughnut aficionado I've had doughnuts worldwide. These doughnuts are decent based on texture, flavor. The cake doughnuts run small on size, but they taste better than the raised. The raised doughnuts & doughnut holes taste like they've been made in old oil. I imagine the cake are cooked in the same oil but the denser dough doesn't taste like that. The icings are so-so, if not borderline poor. They are plenty sweet but lack flavor. Previously I got a chocolate iced and vanilla iced doughnuts and could barely tell the difference. I haven't tried their croissants. They're in a dark case on the side & didn't look too appealing so I skipped them. The shop is tiny so if anyone is in front of the display case you have to wait to see the doughnuts. There are a few small tables in front which are convenient for two people. In conclusion this shop offers overpriced doughnuts that are average to mediocre. The staff is nice enough and there are some seats available. read more

The donuts have always been good, not great, and the (former?) owners were nice enough, but the guy who always seems to be behind the counter now (their son, maybe?) is not friendly at all. He snaps at my kids (who can be loud because, I mean come on... they're getting donuts!) every time we're there and as others have mentioned, they prefer cash and charge extra for using a card. I really don't understand all the negative reviews. The 2 employees working there (seems like father and daughter) were very friendly. Donuts are amazing, definitely way better than retail places like Dunkin' Donuts. It's very comparable to Krispy Kreme's style of donuts. Plus some donuts very creative. Well Date of Visit : August 21, 2023 and I was craving some Donuts in the Morning and since I was on my way To La Jolla I drove pass the Vons Grocery Store on Governor Drive and I decided why not give Golden Donuts a try and it is located next to the Vons and in the Shopping Center . Well As we parked our car it is no problem big parking lot and walk in and look over all the different types of Donuts they had and I have to say it is kind of expensive for these Donuts . But they do have a good selection of Donuts and for the special donuts it is 3.50 each and A Dozen is like 18 Dollars so I got a half dozen and I have to say they were pretty darn good !! There are tables and chairs for you to sit and enjoy your donuts outside . As for payment they only accept Vemo Zellle or Cash only No Credit Cards for payment !! Also they have drinks and Ice Cream Also !! As for Service it was not bad and Overall it's a typical Donut Shop and Donuts were pretty good but I would say A little expensive though . If you're looking for a place to make your drink completely wrong with a side of attitude this is the place for you. I came in for a dozen donuts and a matcha drink. I believe I ordered #57 (can't remember the exact number) it was a matcha drink over ice with NO boba. I got a blended matcha WITH boba instead. When I went back to let them know and she told me they "did me a favor" by putting boba in my drink because she didn't charge me, but her son still added it. Also, it was my fault for not specifying if I wanted the drink over ice or blended. Excuse me? If I wanted the blended matcha I would have ordered #41. I want whatever is pictured as #57. When they finally remade the drink I could hear them slamming things back there and my drink was 90% ice :( I have been a loyal customer here for about 4 years. Happy National Donut Day! I woke up this morning and already donut pictures were flooding my timeline. I knew I needed to grab some dough this morning to get ahead of my cravings. Golden Donut has a parking lot which makes it easy to just swing by without having to circle the block for street parking. Another reviewer mentioned cash only, however I was able to pay for my donuts and coffee on my card ($8). Social Distancing is still being followed by customers, it's a small shop so if you see a line outside it's not as bad as you think. All the donuts are already made in the window so things move quickly. The woman who helped me was so nice and patient. I was a little overwhelmed by all the choices. Also my mask was fogging up my glasses- IYKYK. I opted for their original glazed donut, a cake donut with blueberry glaze, and a custard filled. Cake donuts aren't always my thing, but this one was delicious! I'll come back when the craving strikes. The other two donuts were my favorite though. Don't sleep on their original glazed. They also offer breakfast sandwiches and several different boba smoothie drinks. We went with the classic glazed and an apple fritter. The donuts were not bad, it wasn't too dry. Gosh that's darn good! I've been obsessed with blueberry donuts for the past year or so. My go-to is usually Rose Donuts but it's a bit far for me to go in the morning. I was craving blueberry donuts and I searched my trusty Yelp app to see if any other donut shops carried it and I came across Golden Donuts. I came here on a Saturday morning and I was shocked to see that it's actually really popular. There was a line going out the door that took about 15 min. This place is cash only! They offer other pastries and sandwiches in addition to donuts. I got one blueberry donut and one chocolate. Their blueberry donut looks different to the ones from Rose Donuts so I thought it wouldn't taste that great, but I was pleasantly surprised. The donut itself is not blueberry flavored but the icing on top has blueberries. It tasted really fresh and it has that nice slight crunch that I love! That's something to remember! If a donut has a crunch to it, that means it's freshly fried! If it doesn't, then it's likely a few hours or even a day old. They've updated their layout, mostly to enforce social distancing and safety precautions (markers on the ground, plexi-glass to separate the register), but have also created a larger menu of all their goodies that's much easier to read! They have a large selection of items, from various Donuts, Breakfast Sandwiches, Boba Drinks and more! We usually get the same items because they're our tried and true picks, and they never disappoint! Maple Bar w/ Custard: Sometimes they have pre-filled Bars with Custard, but in the times they don't, you can ask them to fill it for you! They have a machine that pumps the Custard in and it's a super quick process if you want to have that additional filling! Donut Holes are always my favorite - they're just so easy to pop in your mouth and I've never had a dry/stale one from here!
