    1/2 dz vegan donut

Came in right before closing and were given time to explore. We came specifically for the vegan donuts. They have a cake like texture, sweet but not overly sweet. They had about 4 different vegan donuts.

How convenient this donut spot was close to the hike! AMBIANCE: Parking: Plenty of parking. It is a shared plaza but I didn't have any issues. Seating: Simple. 3 tables for small groups. Vibes: Mira Mesa isn't a downtown area. Just a spot with plazas and plazas thus plenty of good eats. The spot itself is relatively simple, a small donut shop with all donut and snack needs. Great for a grab-and-go or staying lowkey. FOOD: Cronut (Recommend) Deeeeelicious! I enjoy the flakiness, the creaminess from the glaze. Chocolate (Recommend) This is the baseline for most of my donut spots. It passes the test. A fresh and fluffy donut with a sweet and chocolate glaze. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome! Friendly people and quick with the service. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Reasonable prices, good donuts, and a pleasant experience. There are a lot of donut shops but this is a pretty solid one. Nothing else to say but if in need of a simple local donut, this is your spot. TIPS: * Great for a post-hiking meal from Penasquitos Canyon. * They got vegan donuts too!

I like their regular donuts. It's light and fluffy. But I am not a big fan of sugary donuts. I can't handle too much sugar on my breakfast. I guess it will be more enjoyable if you eat it with a cup of black coffee.

    3 layer Birthday Donut Cake - $24.99

Donutopolis is hands down the best donut shop in Mira Mesa. The donuts are soft and full of flavor. They have a really good variety of classic and premium style donuts. By premium, I mean donuts with additional topping (cookies, cereal, etc.) Shoutout to Francisco! We were able to place a last minute Birthday Donut Cake order less than 24hrs and pick up the next morning for my 16 year old's birthday He has always been extremely nice and has helped us out in a pinch when we were looking for a ton of conchas (Mexican Sweet Bread) for a last minute Cinco de Mayo celebration a couple of months ago. The donut cake was amazing and HUGE!!! 3 layer was $24.99 There is a smaller version advertised at $16.99 The Birthday Cake was a fun a unique treat to add to our celebration.

    Dozen for less than $15

This is a newish donut shop that reopened under new ownership. Small business owner and has gotten a lot of publicity in the area so decided to check it out with my BFF. We walked in and there was another party ordering donuts. As the other party was paying, we decided to look at all the donuts available for sale. We opted to buy a dozen donuts for less than $15. There was a variety that we chose and we made sure we chose donuts that were unique. We got a few maple flavored goodies (donut, twist, and bar), red velvet, sprinkles, sugar donut and twist, strawberry filled, chocolate and maple swirl. The donuts were good and the service was friendly. They even make a donut cake for birthdays. For 1 layer I believe it's $15 but for a second it's $20. The guy showed me a photo of a huge birthday donut cake he had just made for pick up. Nice alternative vs an actual cake. Great small business to support in the area.

Date of visit: January 29, 2022 The former California Donuts location has now become Donutopolis - this store and its sister location in Poway are run by a pair of brothers that used to work at Donut Touch. While this location has vegan and gluten-free options, those weren't what I was looking for when I came here for breakfast this morning. I'd heard they had a cronut here, plus I really wanted an apple fritter. So, for a total of $3.75, I got my order & got my nosh on. The apple fritter was big, chewy, and full of apple goodness; just what I expected. The cronut, however, wasn't what I was expecting... instead of a combination of a croissant and a donut, Donutopolis' version is a glazed croissant. Certainly different, but different is still good. Clean place inside, friendly staff, and the table and seats outside have been refurbished. Looks like in addition to fried chicken, Mira Mesa is certainly becoming known for its myriad of donut places! Welcome to the Mecca, Donutopolis... especially as they have a Minion donut I'd like to try next time!

I'm the biggest donut snob and usually go to one place for donuts. My friend kept telling me her "Donut Man" moved to Mira Mesa from Santee and told me I needed to try it once. After a few months of her nagging, I finally went and was pleasantly surprised to see the owner, Francisco, who used to work at the donut place I used to go to! Francisco is very experienced and offers a diverse menu. So it isn't a surprise that we liked the same donut place. Donutoplis serves delicious donuts, amazing cronuts, conchas, tasty breakfast sandwiches and other specialty items like cinnamon rolls on Saturdays and sometimes chocolate chip cookies! If you like donuts, you will love Donutopolis. Such friendly service and fresh food and coffee!

Do they have cinnamon rolls available daily?

Do they do boars head sandwiches now? Saw a review in 2022 about that.

    Any vegan options?

Raised donuts like cinnamon rolls, fritters, regular/chocolate glazed, Maple bars and chocolate bars are only available on Saturdays at the moment and cake donuts any other time.

    They are shut down?

They were closed for a little while, but they are now up and running! So they are open now, went in n got donuts today!

Their cakes may be pricey, but…read morein my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

We politely asked if it would be possible to purchase a small cup of fruit , even just a couple strawberries cut up, because one child in our group cannot have sweets due to very strict dietary restrictions . Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did . The complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service was honestly shocking. It's disappointing to be treated that way at a place we have supported so consistently. This place has been going downhill , management for this place needs to step up .

Flour Atelier is a small bakery right next to the hovering Mitsuwa. They carry two refrigerated sections' worth of original treats and pastries, many with Asian flavors such as their ube leche flan and calamansi cheesecake. I'm a gluten free girly nowadays, but when I could eat their desserts I did love their cheesecake: a balance of cream-to-crust is important to me. And those flavors? Standout. Hard to find many other places. They also have tea and coffee, and my husband and I LOVE their hojicha latte, which boasts a nice earthy-to-sweet ratio. If you want a grounded flavor without getting another coffee, try the hojicha latte! The store itself is quite small, selling sweet treats, drinks, and even flowers through a collaboration with a florist. They have about 4 tables outside -- recommended for small parties, unless you come when it's empty with a group. BIG TIP: Bring your mother or mother-in-law here to impress -- that is, if she likes cute, sweet treats and a tea party vibe! Many reviews have noted this, and I would have to agree, especially for the size (crepe cake slices) and/or simple design (two layer naked cakes). We ended up trying a slice of their taro crepe cake. This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. We noticed the crepe cake slice we got had that dusting of ice sparkles, indicating it was frozen and defrosting, and additionally, as it defrosted, the more it started leaning. If you haven't tried Yiko Yiko, it's worth still checking out. That said, I think you'll be satisifed after one or two visits.

Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.
