I came here on a morning walk and decided to bring back the family a fun treat. These donuts are very pretty, but more importantly they taste good! It wouldn't be enough for me if they were just lookers. This is a no frills on the inside donut shop. The biggest "frill" they have is their cost. I spent $23.25 for 6 donuts and a cold brew. And when you really think about it that's crazy. After reviewing my receipt it seems they charged me the price per donut instead of by the 1/2 dozen. Not sure why, it made my order way more expensive but I didn't really notice at the time. It was early at 7am, I wasn't doing the math yet lol. But, I've said on other donut shop reviews, the prices at donut shops are exorbitant and the only reason I go is because they are a "treat" and not something I would eat regularly. They are small cakes at this point, Not the simple donuts of the past. If you can believe it, donuts used to be .70 cents (or less) a pop. Just in my short lifetime. This time I paid almost $3 each. Anyway, just a rant I have with donut prices in general. Another thing definitely not worth getting here is the cold brew, $6 and very basic, comes black and not the best quality. It was bitter tasting. I added some international delight creamer to make it better. Just go to a coffee shop instead. But this place gets decent stars because the donuts are delicious. I loved the blueberry cake donut and the apple fritter. My test of all donut shops is a chocolate old fashioned. It was perfect. My niece & nephew were excited to see the box of donuts on our vacation, so it was worth it,... even if I still think the price isn't actually worth it ;)

Came in right before closing and were given time to explore. We came specifically for the vegan donuts. They have a cake like texture, sweet but not overly sweet. They had about 4 different vegan donuts.

How convenient this donut spot was close to the hike! AMBIANCE: Parking: Plenty of parking. It is a shared plaza but I didn't have any issues. Seating: Simple. 3 tables for small groups. Vibes: Mira Mesa isn't a downtown area. Just a spot with plazas and plazas thus plenty of good eats. The spot itself is relatively simple, a small donut shop with all donut and snack needs. Great for a grab-and-go or staying lowkey. FOOD: Cronut (Recommend) Deeeeelicious! I enjoy the flakiness, the creaminess from the glaze. Chocolate (Recommend) This is the baseline for most of my donut spots. It passes the test. A fresh and fluffy donut with a sweet and chocolate glaze. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome! Friendly people and quick with the service. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Reasonable prices, good donuts, and a pleasant experience. There are a lot of donut shops but this is a pretty solid one. Nothing else to say but if in need of a simple local donut, this is your spot. TIPS: * Great for a post-hiking meal from Penasquitos Canyon. * They got vegan donuts too!

I like their regular donuts. It's light and fluffy. But I am not a big fan of sugary donuts. I can't handle too much sugar on my breakfast. I guess it will be more enjoyable if you eat it with a cup of black coffee.

    3 layer Birthday Donut Cake - $24.99

Donutopolis is hands down the best donut shop in Mira Mesa. The donuts are soft and full of flavor. They have a really good variety of classic and premium style donuts. By premium, I mean donuts with additional topping (cookies, cereal, etc.) Shoutout to Francisco! We were able to place a last minute Birthday Donut Cake order less than 24hrs and pick up the next morning for my 16 year old's birthday He has always been extremely nice and has helped us out in a pinch when we were looking for a ton of conchas (Mexican Sweet Bread) for a last minute Cinco de Mayo celebration a couple of months ago. The donut cake was amazing and HUGE!!! 3 layer was $24.99 There is a smaller version advertised at $16.99 The Birthday Cake was a fun a unique treat to add to our celebration.

This is a newish donut shop that reopened under new ownership. Small business owner and has gotten a lot of publicity in the area so decided to check it out with my BFF. We walked in and there was another party ordering donuts. As the other party was paying, we decided to look at all the donuts available for sale. We opted to buy a dozen donuts for less than $15. There was a variety that we chose and we made sure we chose donuts that were unique. We got a few maple flavored goodies (donut, twist, and bar), red velvet, sprinkles, sugar donut and twist, strawberry filled, chocolate and maple swirl. The donuts were good and the service was friendly. They even make a donut cake for birthdays. For 1 layer I believe it's $15 but for a second it's $20. The guy showed me a photo of a huge birthday donut cake he had just made for pick up. Nice alternative vs an actual cake. Great small business to support in the area.

Date of visit: January 29, 2022 The former California Donuts location has now become Donutopolis - this store and its sister location in Poway are run by a pair of brothers that used to work at Donut Touch. While this location has vegan and gluten-free options, those weren't what I was looking for when I came here for breakfast this morning. I'd heard they had a cronut here, plus I really wanted an apple fritter. So, for a total of $3.75, I got my order & got my nosh on. The apple fritter was big, chewy, and full of apple goodness; just what I expected. The cronut, however, wasn't what I was expecting... instead of a combination of a croissant and a donut, Donutopolis' version is a glazed croissant. Certainly different, but different is still good. Clean place inside, friendly staff, and the table and seats outside have been refurbished. Looks like in addition to fried chicken, Mira Mesa is certainly becoming known for its myriad of donut places! Welcome to the Mecca, Donutopolis... especially as they have a Minion donut I'd like to try next time!

Do they have cinnamon rolls available daily?

Do they do boars head sandwiches now? Saw a review in 2022 about that.

    Any vegan options?

Raised donuts like cinnamon rolls, fritters, regular/chocolate glazed, Maple bars and chocolate bars are only available on Saturdays at the moment and cake donuts any other time.

    They are shut down?

They were closed for a little while, but they are now up and running! So they are open now, went in n got donuts today!

They also have a breakfast sandwich called the San Diego which is a favorite of several people I know. You chose the bagel you want it with and they add fried eggs, bacon, cheese and aioli. I highly reccomend it. I've not had a lot of their deinis, but i did order the cinna-bee which has honey, cinnamon, espresso and milk. I thought it was good and would order it again. Definitely check them out and try some of their bagels, or perhaps one of their sandwiches.

This place is serious about their New York bagels it's pretty much just bagels; they serve some brew coffee and a fridge for drinks but the bagels are their sole focus. Onto the bagel- I've never had it from New York but this bagel makes me want to book a trip asap. It's so fluffy and fresh and everything you want in a bagel. I'll say that there are some bagel spots that are adventurous with their culinary toppings. This place sticks to the tried and true sandwich combos. I got the bec (bacon, egg, cheese) but with ham. It was good and basic, seasoned w salt and pepper, but that bagel really made the sandwich for me. What I love about this spot is how dog friendly it is! There's a treat jar at the counter and they converted part of the sidewalk space to a little grassy spot for the pups. Parking is street parking but I did notice a sign for ADA spots in the back of the spot. I got it to go but seating is limited due to how popular it is. The patio has the most selection &; tables. There's a handful of spots inside but you'd be sitting in between all the ppl ordering/ waiting for their meal. My advice would be to try to go during one of their slower times. On a popular Sunday morning it was about 15min in line to order, then 15-20 min wait. I was in no hurry and grabbed a latte next door while waiting, but close to an hour for a bagel might be a lot for some

The first thing that caught our eye was the seasonal Tokyo Banana Latte, and we knew for sure we had to get it. When we went inside Asa, the space was spacious, with a lot of folks already inside hanging out with friends and studying/working. The interior was very Japandi, which was expected and very cute. We did not have a wait, and there was no line at 1:30 p.m. We ordered a couple of items to share among us. The service, by the way, was very friendly, and they were very open to answering any questions we had, which was awesome. Between the group, we ordered: * Miso Croque Monsieur: I wish this had a bit more ham, in my opinion. While the pastry itself is unique, I wish it were a bit less salty. The miso really shined through, but I was unsure if it was balanced and well-rounded. * Lime Tart: Probably our favorite thing here, actually! The brightness of the citrus stood out but was not overpowering. It had a light, custardy flavor. * Berry Melon Pan: Standard classic melon pan with a subtle berry filling. It is more of a coagulated consistency rather than a jammy interior like we initially thought, but not bad. * Chicken Katsu Sandwich: The shokupan had a nice bounce, and their chicken was nice and juicy. * Matcha Tiramisu: Even though I am an avid lover of matcha, this might have been too much. The topping of matcha made the dessert bitter, and we were a bit surprised by the lack of ladyfingers. * Tokyo Banana Latte: Best banana latte, heads up! I am already a big fan of Tokyo Banana, so this really took the cake. The banana milk was not too sweet, just the way I like it. I would say that I did not think it stood out enough to rave to folks about coming here, but overall, not bad.

My favorite part of the start of a new month is checking their monthly drink and donut specials. This month nothing really called my name but they did have a weekend special that really appealed to me. I have had some of their bagel style sandwiches before and ohhhh goodness they are good. This time it was my favorite style of sandwich, a bahn mi. I had high hopes because of the picture they posted on their social media and just the level of creativity they usually bring. Considering it's North Park, I knew ordering online would be the best option and picking up. My estimated time was 15-20 minutes but it only took them under 10. I got an order ready notification before I even left the house. I got there and it was dead, maybe one other person in and out. There's a lot of seating inside and some outside on their patio. They also have different counters for ordering and pick up which helps speed things up. My experience with service was very transactional, nothing bad just nothing to really highlight. Let's talk about this bahn mi. It's promoted as marinated and charred pork shoulder, house made sweet aioli, nuoc cham compound butter, pickled carrot and daikon, mint, cilantro, and jalapeño on a locally sourced Paris baguette. First off, nuoc cham compound butter?? YES. That is the kind of creativity I love to see. I got my sandwich and the wrapper was pretty oily so the sandwich itself looked kind of glossy. The whole thing felt a little rushed, like everything was just thrown on. I will say I wasn't expecting a generous amount of meat but they delivered in that aspect. I first wanted to try the compound butter on its own and it had a slight nuoc cham flavor, but in the sandwich it didn't really stand out past all the bolder flavors. Now if you've seen my other reviews, the best part of a bahn mi to me is the pickled daikon and carrots. These might be the best I have ever had anywhere. They are exactly how I prefer them, sweet with a slight acidity and THICK CUT. The crunch on these... please let me buy a whole jar. The bread was alright, they mention they source it locally so it's not made in house, but mine leaned a little old and I could tell through the texture. The pork was marinated really well, I do wish some of the pieces were more charred because you could see where some of it didn't hit direct flame. This also came with a side of what tasted like a hoisin vinaigrette. I liked the creativity but felt like the sandwich didn't need it. It was way too acidic and strong and there's not much need for that sharp vinegar hit here. I paired my bahn mi with a miso caramel matcha latte. This was expensive, a 12oz for $8 is steep even for matcha. It was good but not amazing. It leans more sweet than matcha forward. The miso caramel actually surprised me though. At other cafes it usually comes off more like a salted caramel, but here it had more depth, slightly savory, and when mixed with the milk it came out really creamy and smooth. The matcha was a little grainy though. Overall I will definitely be back and will keep my eye out for more specials because that's where they really shine. And seriously, if they ever let me buy those pickled carrots and daikon by the jar, I'm there immediately.
