Oh Nomad Donuts how I love you. This place is a local gem that offers craft donuts, breakfast sandwiches, and fun rotating drinks. My favorite part of the start of a new month is checking their monthly drink and donut specials. This month nothing really called my name but they did have a weekend special that really appealed to me. I have had some of their bagel style sandwiches before and ohhhh goodness they are good. This time it was my favorite style of sandwich, a bahn mi. I had high hopes because of the picture they posted on their social media and just the level of creativity they usually bring. Considering it's North Park, I knew ordering online would be the best option and picking up. My estimated time was 15-20 minutes but it only took them under 10. I got an order ready notification before I even left the house. I got there and it was dead, maybe one other person in and out. There's a lot of seating inside and some outside on their patio. They also have different counters for ordering and pick up which helps speed things up. My experience with service was very transactional, nothing bad just nothing to really highlight. Let's talk about this bahn mi. It's promoted as marinated and charred pork shoulder, house made sweet aioli, nuoc cham compound butter, pickled carrot and daikon, mint, cilantro, and jalapeño on a locally sourced Paris baguette. First off, nuoc cham compound butter?? YES. That is the kind of creativity I love to see. I got my sandwich and the wrapper was pretty oily so the sandwich itself looked kind of glossy. The whole thing felt a little rushed, like everything was just thrown on. I will say I wasn't expecting a generous amount of meat but they delivered in that aspect. I first wanted to try the compound butter on its own and it had a slight nuoc cham flavor, but in the sandwich it didn't really stand out past all the bolder flavors. Now if you've seen my other reviews, the best part of a bahn mi to me is the pickled daikon and carrots. These might be the best I have ever had anywhere. They are exactly how I prefer them, sweet with a slight acidity and THICK CUT. The crunch on these... please let me buy a whole jar. The bread was alright, they mention they source it locally so it's not made in house, but mine leaned a little old and I could tell through the texture. The pork was marinated really well, I do wish some of the pieces were more charred because you could see where some of it didn't hit direct flame. This also came with a side of what tasted like a hoisin vinaigrette. I liked the creativity but felt like the sandwich didn't need it. It was way too acidic and strong and there's not much need for that sharp vinegar hit here. I paired my bahn mi with a miso caramel matcha latte. This was expensive, a 12oz for $8 is steep even for matcha. It was good but not amazing. It leans more sweet than matcha forward. The miso caramel actually surprised me though. At other cafes it usually comes off more like a salted caramel, but here it had more depth, slightly savory, and when mixed with the milk it came out really creamy and smooth. The matcha was a little grainy though. Overall I will definitely be back and will keep my eye out for more specials because that's where they really shine. And seriously, if they ever let me buy those pickled carrots and daikon by the jar, I'm there immediately. read more

Another north Park neighborhood joint. I come here for when I'm feeling for a bagel and smear - something quick and on the go. Love that there's a patio area to enjoy, and if you have a dog, it's a perfect spot for both of you to enjoy. Note - dogs aren't allowed inside (unless they are a service animal). I've gotten the salmon gravlax, which is pretty solid, but I add extra capers cream cheese, as the original order doesn't slather it on. WORTH it tho. I'd probably try it with an add on of tomato the next time. The ice strawberry matcha is pretty good too. Overall, it's a pretty cool spot for a quick bite! read more

I have been going here off and on whenever I get a wild hair and want bagels. Sure, I know it's about donuts and the innovative flavors, but these are the only bagels I buy. My favorite are the rosemary salt and the everything. I usually get a custom dozen with 8 and 4 respectively. She: Mike? I bagged them both separately. WOW! That's a first! Saturday mornings are super busy here, usually with a line out the door! I got the dirty Diego on an everything bagel, sooo fire. Loved the grilled onions and bacon bits (rather than slices). I came here with my friends and there was only street parking. We had to walk a little bit but it wasn't too bad. Line was out the door but didn't feel like a long wait. I got the BLAT and it was very good. The girl taking our order was nice and answered any questions my friend had. They have seating inside as well as outside. There is a restroom in the back. Nomad Donuts in North Park has been here for over ten years making it an iconic place to be at. This shop is always crowded and street parking is a challenge. My first visit here was over a year ago and luckily met with the owner Brad! Brad and his staff were super nice and have always been every time I visit. I'm not a hugh fan of donuts, but I always find the perfect one for me here. I really like that they offer lots of vegan and not too sugary sweet donuts. So far, these donuts haven't given me any bad reaction or sickness like other donuts have. This shop also offers Montreal style bagels, sandwiches, coffee drinks for breakfast and lunch. Indoor, outdoor seating and dog friendly. The majority of customers are young and vivacious making the ambiance lively. I've never stayed in to dine as I always do togo. A must visit. Great stop into Nomad. It was super busy and after only 1 hour of opening they were sold out of a few things. For donuts went with a vanilla bean and Dubai chocolate and also got an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and bagel with cream cheese. Service was friendly and the wait wasn't long for our order. The donuts were so good we all really loved the Dubai chocolate. The bagels were perfect. Chewy on the inside with a little crunch on the outside. The service here is always really friendly, which I appreciate so much. The bagels are good, though not anything exceptionally special. I would appreciate a bit more variety of bagels. The schmears are really tasty, especially the Chipotle Onion, I highly recommend adding that to your sandwich! My one complaint is that the wait time is always quiet long. They have vegan alternatives to almost everything on the menu, which is a HUGE draw and the reason we continue to return. read more

The ones in the box are the ones I tried: ube, guava cream cheese, maple, and flan. Flan was the best and most expensive. 4/5 stars because the icing on the ube, guava, and maple was very thin. The dough was a mixed between cake and cronut? I'm not sure, but a little stale. Again, we did arrive 45mins before closing too. So these donuts could have been the last stash. Is anything done well anymore, or is everything just expensive and of lowest possible quality? I got this donut today and when I opened the box two minutes later that they put it in, the donut had brown smudge from another donut on one side, smashed up chocolate icing on top, and a small glob of green on the other side from either another donut or avocado toast. You wait fifteen minutes to buy a $5 donut, you expect to get a donut that looks nice, is intact, and doesn't have two other donuts' flavors smooshed onto it. One of my favorite brunch spots in SD! Their bagel sandwiches are fantastic. I really appreciate that they have a large vegetarian/vegan menu in addition to a meat-friendly menu, since I prefer to eat plant-based. My favorite thing to get is the TLAT sandwich on a toasted everything bagel. The tempeh is delicious, and I'm not always a fan of tempeh. It's complemented with fresh veggies and a tasty sweet sauce. The portion is generous - I haven't yet been able to eat it all in one sitting. The restaurant itself has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. If you're worried about them selling out, you can order online. The only difficulty is parking, since it's in the heart of North Park. Worst case scenario, you can park closer to Vons and walk over. read more

Lucky me to find out Dubai was in rotation. Our all time favorite : cream cheese Guava. Truly can't go wrong with any of their regulars. The kids love Vanilla and Sprinkle. Their Vietnamese coffee is 10/10. Service is always great! Awesome cashiers. If you're stumped I'm sure they can offer some great recommendations as well. Decided to pop in since I'm in the neighborhood. Parking sucks on a Saturday around 12:45pm. Even though the line was out the door, the wait was probably 5-10 minutes so it wasn't bad. They ran out of donuts right when I got to the counter, but I came in for bagels so that doesn't matter. So just note if you want donuts to come in before noon on the weekend. It's loud inside with people grabbing quick breakfast before going on about their day. I ordered the sesame bagel with sun-dried tomato cream cheese on the side. They gave it to me in the bagel already, so that sucked since I was saving it for later. I also ordered the za'atar bagel (Mediterranean style with herbs and citrusy notes) with chipotle grilled onion cream cheese. Watch out because the chipotle cream cheese is kinda spicy. I wouldn't get that combo again since it was too flavorful. Plenty of cream cheese in it, so that was a plus. read more

The sandwich was solid, tasty and satisfying, but I do wish the fries portion was more generous, especially for the $4 price tag. While I wasn't a fan of their donuts, I came to try their Bagles as I heard they were made the traditional way which is boiled first which gives it more of a dense chewy texture. I came and got one of each flavor of bagel; plain, everything, sesame, jalapeño, rosemary, and za'atar. They indeed had that dense chewy texture that is missing from most bagel places in San Diego. My favorite was the za'atar, very unique and a flavor I haven't seen elsewhere. I also really liked the jalapeño and sesame. You can get them with spread but I just bought my own and added it at home. Traditionally made bagels done the right way there's only one other place in San Diego that does it this way. Highly recommended. Parking is all on the street but there's usually a few spots available in the morning. read more

Since the last visit less than a month ago we have been back 3 times! It has been better each time, so I had to update my 4 to a 5 star. We've tried a few build your own bagels with hash browns, cheese, and bacon, so delicious 10/10 and a few different options of that with jam, delish, and bacon candy, also very yummy! We finally tried a donut, the Mexican hot chocolate, and holy donut heaven, it was incredible!!!! Tasted a million times better than it looked (and it was beautiful) and the chocolate amount and flavor was perfect. Coming from NYC, I was a little skeptical of the bagels here but my expectations were thrown out the window! I actually came twice before I wrote this review and the food was equally as good each time. Nomad Donuts had great bagels, I have tried the rosemary, cheddar jalapeno and the everything bagel and both of them were super fresh. Overall, I like Nomad and will probably come back and raise my rating after a better experience. Service is great, nice casual vibe. I made the mistake of ordering a Bodega Chopped Cheese. I've seen some postings call their bagels Montreal style for years. I don't know if they've made this claim, but their bagels fall squarely under New York style to me: much fluffier and plumper than Montreal. But the real disappointment was the meat. There was nothing chopped about it: just a cooked ground beef burger patty with toppings that make it taste kinda like a Big Mac. It was all right for what it was, but I can't see anyone looking for a chopped cheese taste being happy with this. The bagel style (maybe not their fault) and meat make me think that they're more interested in putting marketable labels on things than actually following through on the experience. :( Food is good overall, but I'll be lowering my expectations for anything promising a taste of something different. read more

My wife eats plant based, so this place is perfect for us as they have many vegan options! We do miss the tofu scramble but we have never been disappointed with anything here. We ordered the vanilla glaze donut and everything bagel with garlic herb cream cheese. The donut was soft and moist and the vanilla frosting wasn't overly sweet. The bagel was pretty good, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside! There was a good amount of the garlic cream cheese and it wasn't too garlicky. Heard good things about this spot and my boss brought us the bagels once so I had to come in person! Short line around 9AM, my sister and I shared a vanilla donut and everything bagel with herb garlic spread. Prices were reasonable and everything tasted fresh! Ambiance: This is a great little place to grab a bagel (what they are known for), donut, or sandwich. I like how they add the dietary section and have an entire screen dedicated to their vegan options so you know exactly what you can eat. Staff: Staff was helpful in explaining and fast with getting our order out to us. I liked that they brought out our food to us and called out the name. Asking for the first letter of the last name to make sure it did not get confused with other orders was helpful too. Food: They are known for their Montreal-style bagels and their donuts. The bagels are absolutely not your NYC bagel so make sure you are ready for a more dense selection. Their everything was covered in toppings and this was a rare occasion where the bottom of the bagel was better than the top. Donuts: We got the guava cream cheese and the chocolate. They were both perfectly fluffy yeast donut and not too sweet. You did have to eat them there otherwise it would have melted in the heat. We got another blueberry cake style donut, not my favorite because I am not a fan of cake donuts, but still good. Only wish is that they made their cinnamon sugar donut vegan so we could have tried it too. Parking: We were able to snag street parking in the neighborhood. Wow... the bagels here are the freshest I've had outside of NYC!! I loved the fresh dill in the cream cheese! They've got the perfect bite, warmth, and chewy consistency you look for in a quality bagel. Service is really quick too at this grab and go spot, though they do have lines out the door on weekends. That said, I was a disappointed that my jalapeño bagel had no jalapeño in it...I got the salmon gravalax sandwich. For a $16 bagel, it was really skimpy on the portion. Barely any salmon and a really small bagel (and not even the bagel I ordered). The house-cure flavor also was forgettable. I brought up the mixup to staff, but they convinced me it was in fact a jalapeño bagel...didn't want to start a fuss, but the dill and scallions inside my cream cheese were not jalapeños ... Might try this place again for their famous donuts, or if I'm looking to splurge on a bagel sandwich. Looking forward to trying the exotic zaatar bagel next visit, or maybe the everything! The rosemary bagel with sundried tomato shmear and bacon bits was pretty darn good too just really messy. Can't go wrong with their strawberry matcha and Vietnamese cold brew. Nomad donuts has some incredible stuff here. The food is excellent. The donuts were all so soft and good. The bagels were clearly fresh and delicious. The service was decent and we got our food in a timely manner. The thing that I'm knocking is the place just wasn't that clean. If you're going to have outdoor seating, you have to do a decent job of cleaning to keep up with your customers.
