I am so grateful for business that have vegan options and Nomad has plenty of them! The cappuccino wasn't the best, but I am finding that most places in San Diego don't seem to follow the traditional foam ratio, so who knows. The bagel itself was amazing, one of the best I've had in SoCal, but the vegan cream cheese wasn't personally my favorite. Definitely going to try the Vegan Egg and Cheeze bagel next time! The Shorty Cakes was hands-down the best donut I have ever had! The strawberry cheesecake filling was beyond flavorful, and they were more than generous with the amount of filling, which really made this donut a standout! If I could I would give a tentative 3.5 for first time visit. Ordered online and the pick up timeframe was incredibly quick. I got the island boi sandwich on a sesame bagel, a maple donut, a strawberry shorty (seasonal), and some ube donut holes. Service was very transactional, so there was nothing standout but also nothing bad to say. The store is in North park, so naturally parking is a nightmare, but since I ordered ahead, I just used one of the 15 min parking spots out front. I was in and out so I didn't stop to really check out the shops decor either. The good: the breakfast sandwich was phenomenal, the crusted spam and garlic chili sauce paired so well with the rest of the flavors. The strawberry shortcake donut, which was filled with a strawberry "cheesecake" filling was very good as well. The donut dough was light and airy, and there was a generous amount of filling. The ehh: I wasn't super impressed with the maple donut, it may just be because most of their classic donuts are vegan, but the texture was strangely chewy to me, and the maple glaze just didn't hit. The donut holes just tasted like sugar coated donuts, I didn't taste any hint of ube/taro, not to mention they are way smaller than the average donut holes (4 for $1). Overall, I highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches, I definitely want to try some of the other specialty ones. As for the donuts themselves, I just don't think the classic donuts are to my taste. Oh Nomad Donuts how I love you. This place is a local gem that offers craft donuts, breakfast sandwiches, and fun rotating drinks. My favorite part of the start of a new month is checking their monthly drink and donut specials. This month nothing really called my name but they did have a weekend special that really appealed to me. I have had some of their bagel style sandwiches before and ohhhh goodness they are good. This time it was my favorite style of sandwich, a bahn mi. I had high hopes because of the picture they posted on their social media and just the level of creativity they usually bring. Considering it's North Park, I knew ordering online would be the best option and picking up. My estimated time was 15-20 minutes but it only took them under 10. I got an order ready notification before I even left the house. I got there and it was dead, maybe one other person in and out. There's a lot of seating inside and some outside on their patio. They also have different counters for ordering and pick up which helps speed things up. My experience with service was very transactional, nothing bad just nothing to really highlight. Let's talk about this bahn mi. It's promoted as marinated and charred pork shoulder, house made sweet aioli, nuoc cham compound butter, pickled carrot and daikon, mint, cilantro, and jalapeño on a locally sourced Paris baguette. First off, nuoc cham compound butter?? YES. That is the kind of creativity I love to see. I got my sandwich and the wrapper was pretty oily so the sandwich itself looked kind of glossy. The whole thing felt a little rushed, like everything was just thrown on. I will say I wasn't expecting a generous amount of meat but they delivered in that aspect. I first wanted to try the compound butter on its own and it had a slight nuoc cham flavor, but in the sandwich it didn't really stand out past all the bolder flavors. Now if you've seen my other reviews, the best part of a bahn mi to me is the pickled daikon and carrots. These might be the best I have ever had anywhere. They are exactly how I prefer them, sweet with a slight acidity and THICK CUT. The crunch on these... please let me buy a whole jar. The bread was alright, they mention they source it locally so it's not made in house, but mine leaned a little old and I could tell through the texture. The pork was marinated really well, I do wish some of the pieces were more charred because you could see where some of it didn't hit direct flame. This also came with a side of what tasted like a hoisin vinaigrette. I liked the creativity but felt like the sandwich didn't need it. It was way too acidic and strong and there's not much need for that sharp vinegar hit here. I paired my bahn mi with a miso caramel matcha latte. This was expensive, a 12oz for $8 is steep even for matcha. It was good but not amazing. It leans more sweet than matcha forward. The miso caramel actually surprised me though. At other cafes it usually comes off more like a salted caramel, but here it had more depth, slightly savory, and when mixed with the milk it came out really creamy and smooth. The matcha was a little grainy though. Overall I will definitely be back and will keep my eye out for more specials because that's where they really shine. And seriously, if they ever let me buy those pickled carrots and daikon by the jar, I'm there immediately. read more

Another north Park neighborhood joint. I come here for when I'm feeling for a bagel and smear - something quick and on the go. Love that there's a patio area to enjoy, and if you have a dog, it's a perfect spot for both of you to enjoy. Note - dogs aren't allowed inside (unless they are a service animal). I've gotten the salmon gravlax, which is pretty solid, but I add extra capers cream cheese, as the original order doesn't slather it on. WORTH it tho. I came in to try their summer seasonal donuts. What I got 1.Shorty cakes ($5)- a filled strawberry shortcake donut with a strawberry short cake crumble and fresh strawberry 2. Black sesame espresso latte ($7?)- it has black sesame syrup in the latte. It was on the sweeter side, but you could taste the black sesame flavor pretty well and the espresso If you've had the Good Humour strawberry shortcake bar, the topping is essentially that but in donut form. The parking is a bit tough to find in this area as there is no private lot and there is all street parking. It's not too bad if you go really early (around 8 am or so), but maybe it is just busier in the summer. I'd definitely be interested in trying their bagel sandwiches. Nomad Donuts in North Park has been here for over ten years making it an iconic place to be at. This shop is always crowded and street parking is a challenge. My first visit here was over a year ago and luckily met with the owner Brad! Brad and his staff were super nice and have always been every time I visit. I'm not a hugh fan of donuts, but I always find the perfect one for me here. I really like that they offer lots of vegan and not too sugary sweet donuts. So far, these donuts haven't given me any bad reaction or sickness like other donuts have. This shop also offers Montreal style bagels, sandwiches, coffee drinks for breakfast and lunch. Indoor, outdoor seating and dog friendly. The majority of customers are young and vivacious making the ambiance lively. I've never stayed in to dine as I always do togo. A must visit. Saturday mornings are super busy here, usually with a line out the door! I got the dirty Diego on an everything bagel, sooo fire. Loved the grilled onions and bacon bits (rather than slices). Great stop into Nomad. It was super busy and after only 1 hour of opening they were sold out of a few things. For donuts went with a vanilla bean and Dubai chocolate and also got an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and bagel with cream cheese. Service was friendly and the wait wasn't long for our order. I got this donut today and when I opened the box two minutes later that they put it in, the donut had brown smudge from another donut on one side, smashed up chocolate icing on top, and a small glob of green on the other side from either another donut or avocado toast. You wait fifteen minutes to buy a $5 donut, you expect to get a donut that looks nice, is intact, and doesn't have two other donuts' flavors smooshed onto it. Decided to pop in since I'm in the neighborhood. Parking sucks on a Saturday around 12:45pm. Even though the line was out the door, the wait was probably 5-10 minutes so it wasn't bad. They ran out of donuts right when I got to the counter, but I came in for bagels so that doesn't matter. So just note if you want donuts to come in before noon on the weekend. It's loud inside with people grabbing quick breakfast before going on about their day. I ordered the sesame bagel with sun-dried tomato cream cheese on the side. They gave it to me in the bagel already, so that sucked since I was saving it for later. I also ordered the za'atar bagel (Mediterranean style with herbs and citrusy notes) with chipotle grilled onion cream cheese. Watch out because the chipotle cream cheese is kinda spicy. While I wasn't a fan of their donuts, I came to try their Bagles as I heard they were made the traditional way which is boiled first which gives it more of a dense chewy texture. I came and got one of each flavor of bagel; plain, everything, sesame, jalapeño, rosemary, and za'atar. They indeed had that dense chewy texture that is missing from most bagel places in San Diego. My favorite was the za'atar, very unique and a flavor I haven't seen elsewhere. I also really liked the jalapeño and sesame. You can get them with spread but I just bought my own and added it at home. Traditionally made bagels done the right way there's only one other place in San Diego that does it this way. Since the last visit less than a month ago we have been back 3 times! It has been better each time, so I had to update my 4 to a 5 star. We've tried a few build your own bagels with hash browns, cheese, and bacon, so delicious 10/10 and a few different options of that with jam, delish, and bacon candy, also very yummy! We finally tried a donut, the Mexican hot chocolate, and holy donut heaven, it was incredible!!!! Tasted a million times better than it looked (and it was beautiful) and the chocolate amount and flavor was perfect. They gave me a free doughnut on my birthday! I split the matcha doughnut with my friend while we waited for our bagels. They've got some wonderful cream cheese flavors here, with caper being my favorite. Normally Idon't get fancy drinks, but it was my birthday. I opted for the gingerbread London fog with almond milk. Ambiance: This is a great little place to grab a bagel (what they are known for), donut, or sandwich. I like how they add the dietary section and have an entire screen dedicated to their vegan options so you know exactly what you can eat. Asking for the first letter of the last name to make sure it did not get confused with other orders was helpful too. Food: They are known for their Montreal-style bagels and their donuts.
