A buddy recommended this place, and I had no idea they'd been open since April 2026! I'm a huge sourdough fan, especially when it has that nice tang to it. I favor San Fran, Seattle for that nice tang in sourdough bread. I loved the friendly service, simple menu, and how fresh everything was. The fact that they don't use seed oils was a big plus for me, too, they use refined coconut oil which doesn't have the nasty Pina colada taste. Today's special donut was a bergamot meringue, and it was amazing! I also had the BEC San (breakfast sandwich) which had scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and raw milk cheddar on a plain sourdough donut. I picked up one of each donut, too, along with their house-made organic chocolate milk. It was served cold and went perfectly with breakfast. My only complaint was the parking, which is completely out of their control. Belmont Park gets so busy, and I ended up rushing in and out because I was nervous about where I'd parked. Just something to keep in mind when you visit as you have to park across the street and walk over. Came just before opening at 7:20am to ensure I got to try these donuts. Was super pumped since it was my first time here. Right after purchasing a 4 pack, I go outside and set the donuts on a ledge just outside the shop to take a photo. Somewhat semi-hungover from the night prior, I hop in my car after taking the picture and dart back to my hotel, leaving the donuts behind. I get back to the hotel and realize I forgot to grab my donuts off the ledge and immediately head back to Sourpuss. Sure enough, the box was gone so I figured I'd at least check with the cashier (a gentleman with gray hair, which might have been the owner) to see if someone returned them. This is officially the newest addition to my list of places I'll always come back to! Everything was absolutely delicious and so worth trying. I tried the vanilla glaze and the cinnamon twist, and both were incredible. And then I found out they're made with sourdough and clean ingredients... those words are literally music to my ears! Sourpuss Donuts is excellent. I stopped by today and ordered 3 donuts to share and they were all equally tasty. My favorite out of the 3 donuts (Strawberry , Dark Chocolate and Sour Apple) was definitely the dark chocolate because I am a chocolate fanatic. The sourdough donut itself is midly sour and very fluffy and soft. The staff is really nice and there is a patio in the back. I will be back to try Creme Brulee and the other flavors. Sourpuss Donuts is such a fun Mission Beach find! I don't think I'd ever had a sourdough donut before, so I was excited to give them a try. They have a rotating donut menu & when we stopped by there were 6 donuts in the case to choose from (mix of filled and classic options). We split the Strawberry Homer and the Peanut Butter Chocolate. The sourdough donuts were light, fluffy, and you could tell they were made with high-quality ingredients. The Strawberry Homer was good but a little plain in my opinion (nothing too memorable). The Peanut Butter Chocolate, though, was the real star! It was filled with a rich peanut butter mousse and topped with a decadent chocolate glaze. Yum! The service was super friendly, and I loved that they have both indoor & outdoor seating. It's a cute, laid-back spot to grab a donut & coffee while soaking up the Mission Beach vibes. An interesting business name as I think the owners wanted to do a word play on the fact that their signature product is an organic sourdough brioche donut. Sourpuss Donuts is the latest tenant in this Mission Beach suite that has mainly operated as a taqueria or bar and grill over the years. Because it's located so close to Belmont Park, parking in one of the common lots and walking over is easier than trying to find a curbside spot on Mission Blvd. The shop is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. On the other days of the week, the closing time is 1:30 or when they sell out. I almost ran into that unfortunate situation during my visit as all of the daily inventory was nearly depleted. No individual donuts were left in the display cases at the service counter. The menu sheet listed three kinds of donut sandwiches and even one of those was unavailable. That left me with choosing the Donut BEC (Bacon, Egg, Cheese) Sando for my order. A plain sourdough donut was sliced in half and filled with scrambled egg, crispy bacon, raw milk cheddar cheese, and a special sauce. The dough was very soft and not too sweet which allowed the savory components to stand out. At $12, it was rather pricey. A single donut cost $6.50 so we are talking about premium pricing for a unique product. The donut flavors are regularly rotated with around four to six types sold daily based on the signs I saw on the empty display cases. Besides the sandwiches, the menu also offered three kinds of bowls and some sides. Beverages included coffee, chocolate milk, cider, cold brews, kombucha, and lemonade. Indoor seating was limited to one table and a bench near the front windows. The outdoor patio on the south end of the structure had more tables with canopies for shade. Holy Moly! Sourdough and Brioche Doughnuts, you can't go wrong with those! I picked up and sourdough cinnamon twist and a cup of coffee. The twist was terrific. My favorite part was the texture. It was soft, but had a nice slight pull and a great chew. The sugar and cinnamon levels were just right. I just had to try the savory parmesan and salami doughnut holes. I just had to. We went in for iced coffee and wanted to support a small business, instead of the big one next door. The owners were working and so nice. They had a small kitchen and the food smelled great, but we stuck to our plan. They had several drinks on tap and I switched to a NA ginger cider. My friend loke his iced vanilla coffee. They donuts looked too good to pass up. My friend got glazed chocolate with chocolate filling. He said it was good but too rich to finish in a sitting. I got the blueberry lemon. I love sourdough, so I had to try San Diego's only sourdough brioche donuts. They did NOT disappoint!!! My favorite donut was definitely the chef's special lemon raspberry donut. Cooked perfectly golden but soft inside with a delicious creamy raspberry cheesecake filling. It was messy but so incredibly good. My husband's favorite was the California sunshine which is a donut with orange flavors. Service was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. It was super cute inside with some cat decor and a HUGE display case of all of the beautiful donuts. I would definitely recommend the fruit flavors. The dark chocolate donut is super good too, but the sourdough brioche with the fruit is on another level! Definitely some of the best donuts I have ever had!!! Came here for donuts while vacationing at Mission Beach. While here I ate at a high end restaurant and had top notch steak and sushi. But this beach-side donut shop was the culinary highlight of my trip! The baker here is an artisan in the truest sense and has created a daring and imaginative array of flavor combinations. Don't let the higher prices put you off. These donuts are made from sourdough brioche dough, long-fermented for over two days. As a baker myself I understand the cost of ingredients and effort that goes into making a dough as rich as this. The butter alone likely account's for half the price. And they fry their dough in healthy high-end (and much more expensive) coconut oil. As with everything you get what you pay for. Most donut shops give you quick-rising additive-filled dough fried in cheap seed oil, but Sourpuss gives you real food, naturally leavened, and baked with care and intention. And don't sleep on the savory donuts! You might think it sounds weird, but I tried their Sweet Corn and Chili donut and it was so amazing I had to go back and buy two more! Picked a couple donuts early yesterday morning... the vanilla bean glazed donut was simple, but one of the best donuts I have ever had. My wife had the Labor Day special Passionfruit Coconut Meringue donut, which she thought was excellent ( but the vanilla bean glazed was better, which meant I had to share). People there were nice and helpful, donuts were excellent. Only negative is several mornings they weren't open while we stayed nearby...but if you get lucky on the timing, these are worth the trip! read more

So soft and cooked in coconut oil. So if you aren't used to those flavors, it will be different. Note- it is a bit on the smaller size, but also a perfect serving size. Some may find the prices a bit high, but you get what you pay for. I also like supporting a small business owner who is using high quality, organic ingredients. The fries (cooked in coconut oil) had great flavor. Salted just right and cooked golden. I saw an advertisement for this place and had a perfect breakfast bowl, Cali breakfast, which was eggs, avocado, and cheddar over a bed of fries, and exactly what I needed. The coffee was amazing, and sitting on the deck, taking in the beach vibe, was so relaxing. The owners were on site, and you couldn't have asked for nicer, more accommodating people.
