What to do when my recent baking projects don't turn out well? Bring in the pros! Saw that newb (to SD) Schmackary's had a 2x1 delivery promo and was still open at 8:30 pm on a Wed so gave em a shot. The chocolate chip and confetti cookies were both quite large, about the size of my hand. I couldn't believe that the chocolate chip one was still very warm on arrival, clearly fresh baked, and it totally hit the spot. Ideal soft/chewy on the inside, slightly crisp on the rims. Birthday/confetti flavor is not my favorite in general, but this version tasted fine.

Stopped in for a coffee after a morning workout next door. The guy at the counter was very friendly & took our order quickly & efficiently. We ordered a cold brew coffee with cream. Nothing fancy but the coffee was smooth & not bitter. The store is small. The cookies looked amazing but we didnt try them.

Crumbl who?? Really great cookie shop, I was drifting around and needed something sweet as a pick me up. I stopped in here and picked up a delicious birthday cookie, and I even got a free one for the shops anniversary in New York! The redheaded gentleman of the counter was so friendly and sweet, I love local cookie shops and next time I need to get somebody a gift I'm going to get them just a basket of these cookies. They were delicious. Not too sweet either! I'm eyeing their banana pudding for next time, they also have coffee and iced tea there.

Walked by this place today and after a great endorsement from a customer we decided to come in and try this out. There was a young lady prepping another customers order, but she acknowledged and greeted us right away, we had no idea what we were getting so she mentioned to let her know when we were ready. We took our time looking at all the available items and we settled on sharing an ice cream sandwich. We had chocolate ice cream with dirty leprechaun cookies and it was absolutely delicious. An African American woman came out from the back to help another customer who had walked in. She seemed super friendly as well. Delicious cookies and great customer service. What more do you need?

When they first opened, I waited in line 30 mins to be told they were out of chocolate anything and it would be another 30 min wait if I wanted The Classic. I really wanted to try this new place. Looks super cute and has great reviews. I decided to try Too Good To Go app when I saw this location pop up on my app. It was a great deal but you can't choose. It's a surprise! When I went to pick up my surprise i was the second person in line. I overheard they were out of chocolate chip cookies or brownies! Drats! I stood there at the counter for about 5 mins before someone said Hi. So strange! The three items I received - a blondie, a birthday party, and a Snickerdoodle type cookie. The blondie was really good. The other two cookies were too sweet for me. I decided to order online but the Classic is sold out! What in the world?! I'm still hopeful to try the classic one day!

Cookies from Broadway... that's the tagline for Schmackary's which has set up shop in the heart of the Hillcrest neighborhood. This is the first location outside of NY and NJ, let alone in California/San Diego. The grand opening was at the beginning of this month. No seating was available inside while there was a small front patio with a bench. Parking was metered along this stretch of University Ave. A menu board listing twelve flavors of the day hung on the right wall. I believe they have more than 40 (100?) varieties in their inventory so many of them are rotated weekly. Cookies could be ordered in quantities of one, six, or twelve. Cookies cakes were available at $35 each. You could also select ice cream with your cookie in the form of a sandwich, milkshake, or à la mode. Cold drinks and hot drinks made up the rest of the offerings. I decided on the following for my box of six cookies to go... * The Classic - blend of milk & semisweet chocolate with a hint of flake sea salt. * Funfetti - butter, sugar, flour, and sprinkles topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting. * Cookie Dough - creamy cookie dough frosting on top of The Classic. * Cookie Butter Bliss - cookie butter with notes of warm cinnamon. * Cookies & Cream - dark cocoa, white chocolate, Oreo pieces, and vanilla cream cheese frosting. * Schmackerdoodle - snickerdoodle inside out and stuffed with cinnamon sugar chunks and white chocolate. I found the ones with frosting on them to be extremely sweet, even for my palate. Therefore, the simpler cookies like The Classic, Cookie Butter Bliss, and Schmackerdoodle had a better balance of chewiness and sugar. At $22 for half a dozen, the average price for each cookie given their size was a good deal. Many places nowadays charge five dollars each (or more) for their products. Schmackary's is open from 10 to 10 daily which gives you plenty of time to visit and satisfy a craving.

When I first walked in and saw these cookies, I thought they looked really dry and was a little skeptical, not gonna lie. But I knew that they have many locations originating in New York and apparently was good enough to bring to San Diego, so I decided to have faith and get a cookie. Pickings were a little slim at night but we got the chocolate covered pretzel. I'm glad to report it was much softer than it appeared. Prices are to be expected for San Diego (between $4-5) and it's a good sized cookie. The perfect level of sweetness in a cookie for me, and the pretzel did add a nice touch. They also had rice krispies treats that looked amazing, and also ice cream cookies. I would definitely revisit.

Schmackary's opened last weekend and this shop has some lip schmacking good cookies, a Manhattan, New York based cookie shop is now here in San Diego. Located on University Ave in the Hillcrest area, where the street meter parking is a challenge. The shop is small with currently no outdoor or indoor seating. The list of cookie flavors is extensive and good to know is that all cookies are baked on premises so it's fresh. While I torture myself looking at desserts and cookies, I'm not a hugh fan of super sugary sweet treats. I was given a taste of one of the cookies and with eyes wide open, I was amazed at how good and NOT too sweet these were. I ordered the Buckeye Moonpie and the Cookies and Cream, both with a chocolate base cookie and each topped differently. There's savory selections of scones and coconut macaroons. Coffee drinks available too. The shop staff were super nice especially Jonny from New York. Due to municipal red tape delays, this business was in the works for over a year before they finally opened. Wish they have seating for customers. I took my cookies togo. So glad there's a cookie shop that offers Not too sugary sweet scrumptious cookie's worthy of your visit. Recommend

Kiara, you are a rock star. Y'all, I have been waiting for this place to open for quite a while. Finally I'm walking by and it's open so I had to stop in. It was just before 9pm I ended up having questions and ordered a six pack and an iced coffee. As I was ordering a line developed behind me. A tall young man came out and I thought he was going to help the people behind me but he went back to the back. Kiara had let me know the barista was on the phone when I had coffee questions. When Kiara called for the barista to help her, the barista remained on the phone and said Kiara could do it. Keep in mind the line of people is still there. I noticed after I ordered the six pack I wanted a peanut butter cookie ala mode to enjoy there. Kiara like the rock star she is took my order and got me my coffee. She let me know the ala mode would be a minute and she was able to take care of the other guests in line. I tipped her $5 and I hope she did not have to share with the other two that gave her zero help at all. I go to EQ next door often and will be walking by. I will always stop by and order from Kiara. Quality customer service girl, slay!

Was walking around and stumbled onto this place. I was so excited because me and my husband had these cookies when we were in New York last year. The service was on point. Was greeted when we walked in. The girl behind the counter was sweet and knowledgeable. They had a lot of cookies to choose from. And cookies are my weakness. We got the: Maple bacon, Schmacerdoodle, The Hummingbird, & the classic. The Schmacerdoodle was definitely my favorite. I can see why it's a fan favorite. Thank you Schmackary's for your hospitality.

Oh my goodness! This place was so so yummy; everything I love about a cookie (soft inside, chewy crunchy edges. So many original flavors and definitely way better than Crumble. The baker and service in general was amazing. I can tell they genuinely love what they do and the joy their desserts bring. Give this spot a try whenever you're near. I'm glad I got to try a box with my friends. Plenty of seating inside or outside.

Came here for a quick dessert and saw that this was a new spot. Parking on this street in hillcrest can be tricky but luckily i found a spot very nearby. When you enter you can see all the baked goods displayed nicely with descriptions describing each items. After speaking with the workers there, we were told that this place originally came from New York and that the owner came to SD to make sure all the ingredients were sourced locally which is awesome to hear. They gave some recommendations of what to try and I ended up going with their maple bacon cookie and the hummingbird which was a vegan cookie that includes oats, coconut, pineapple, banana and a southern cream frosting. Texturally, these are not chewy cookies are more crispy/crunchy but they are not dry at all. The maple bacon cookie was thin so the edges were crispy but the inside was still soft (just not doughy if that's what you're used to). It tasted pretty much exactly as you expect and the bacon bits gave a nice salty kick to the cookies. As for the hummingbird it wasn't nearly as thin as the maple bacon but due to all the variations of fruit in the cookie in addition to the oats, it gave the cookie bunch of different textures. The frosting tied it all together to make a unique cookie experience. I will say the cookies are pretty pricy (4.50 each) but overall these are delicious cookies and coming from someone who doesn't normally eat cookies I'd definitely come by here if I was in the area again.

Schmackary's opened a couple of weeks ago and is a chain from the New York area. They have a wide variety of desserts such as cookies, ice cream/ice cream sandwiches, bars and even banana pudding. The cashier was very nice and was helpful with explaining each cookie they had and their fan favorites. I ended up getting the Funfetti cookie. Since they were close to closing she also gave me another cookie to sample as well. Both taste great and pretty big. She also said they rotate their cookie menu every couple weeks. I will definitely be coming back to try more flavors!

We also split a croque monsieur which was warm, cheesy, and perfect to balance out all the pastries. I wish they had real cutlery (vs only plastic disposables) for dine in customers. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). Many reviews have noted this, and I would have to agree, especially for the size (crepe cake slices) and/or simple design (two layer naked cakes). We ended up trying a slice of their taro crepe cake. It was tasty - light, smooth, and included real taro - and had alternating layers of cream and taro; however, we were surprised with how small it was in person (vs photos) for $12.50 before tax. This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. We noticed the crepe cake slice we got had that dusting of ice sparkles, indicating it was frozen and defrosting, and additionally, as it defrosted, the more it started leaning. If you haven't tried Yiko Yiko, it's worth still checking out. That said, I think you'll be satisifed after one or two visits.

We got a variety but the Banoffee Maritozzi was an interesting combination of a sliced banana and corn flakes. But the Orange Blossom Ube Financier was our favorite. Would definitely come back and get that again. The store is pretty small, so you get the baked goods togo, but if you can't wait to get them home they do have tables outside so you can enjoy them.

Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.

This review is for the rolled banana croissant . Every time I visit I always order the rolled banana croissant and it never disappoints!!! The round croissant is cut in half, piped with delicious cream that is perfectly sweet that goes so well with the caramel sauce and bananas, perfect combo! If the bakery reads this review, it would be even better if there were a few more banana slices inside or caramelized banana on top, IMO. One more thing, it would be awesome if you opened on weekends. Today I ordered the banana and creme brulee rolled croissant and the banana was better. I was the only customer so ordering was simple. There are 3 tables in the store and a few outside the store. I'll be back when I have another sweet craving.
