Ordered delivery. The corned beef sandwiches we ordered were so dry, they literally crumbled as we ate them, also found remnants of sauerkraut on one of the sandwiches. Clearly there are some quality control issues in kitchen. For the amount we spent on our lunch (about $100 for 3 sandwiches and 1 order of blintzes), you would think they would offer amazing corned beef, but were we wrong. Definitely not returning. read more

Drove 20 miles to get a corned beef sandwich to go. When I opened it up at home I found only 1/2 of a sandwich and it tasted nothing like corned beef. I'm 71 years old, Jewish, grew up in New York and know what corned beef should taste like. This was no way near. My brother got lots of items for a Sunday brunch a year ago and he was VERY disappointed with every single item. read more

Always a wonderful visit. Milton's has long been one of our favorite since our morning-after breakfast following my CPO initiation in 1995, some 30 years ago. Breakfast, bagels and hash always hit the spot. Milton's baked goods are superior. This trip was the Chicago Dog with all the fixin's and an exemplary omelet for the wife. If in the area, did as we do, make Milton's a must. Dicks read more

What a blast from the past. I could hangout in this restaurant/ deli all day. First the coffee was delicious. I got the Chicago dog. It was full of good flavor and bite with all the condiments and peppers. The grown up mac and cheese was amazing but needed some additional seasonings. Potato salad was textbook. Also had a little bite of the pastrami sandwich, wow it was good. The server came back frequently which helped with all the coffee I had :) read more

To my surprise, the food was all really good...and I am not a big sandwich person. But this is the famous Milton's, who makes bread and crackers sold all over! The pastrami is superior to the corned beef by far; pastrami is salty, has more flavor, and is more firm. (I had a bite of other people's sandwiches; combo pastrami and corned beef would probably be good too but pastrami is definitely the tastier meat.) I had the half sandwich, which came with choice of side (coleslaw, potato salad pasta salad--to which I had coleslaw that was really good). I selected chicken noodle, to which I give kudos for the plating -- bunch of noodle, bunch of white meat chicken, bunch of carrots in a bowl filled with warm broth. (I added my own salt and pepper) The soup was very hearty! Home made chips were nice and the fries had an extra crisp on the batter, as if were double fried. The bakery when you first enter the restaurant is very impressive. We ordered a slice of German chocolate cake (not a big deal and would not necessarily recommend) but the lemon bar was really good and a nice size. If your kid finds all the words in the puzzle on the child's mat, your kid gets a cookie!! So kudos for that!! Menu had a lot of variety--breakfast all day; baby back ribs; sandwiches; salads. Great service too. Liked the high ceilings and the sports memorabilia on the walls. read more

Our out of town team just finished a soccer game at the nearby Surf sports complex and needed a place to gather and watch the FIFA Soccer game (Mexico Vs Argentina). We were given the 'Back Room' that held 40 team and family members. Yes, we were a large and chaotic group. Kudos to Milton's for accommodating us and getting this large group entertained and fed. My Half Pastrami and fries were delicious! Thanks again Million for a wonderful experience. read more

Great location, friendly service,$110 for myself my wife and son, tip included. I was under the impression this was a Jewish deli. How do you cook your food with lard? Ummm not kosher at all, plus Last time we were here the country potatoes were a bit raw, so we asked for the country potatoes to be thoroughly cooked. I added a picture of what we got instead. read more

I haven't been here in years but we thought we'd come for Father's Day. We ordered turkey sandwiches and what we got was a slab of turkey on plain bread- no sauce, lettuce, onion or tomato. $17 for two pieces of bread and a handful of turkey. Ridiculous and a total rip off. We had to ask for the toppings . So people just eat it plain?!! By the time we walked out it was $80 and a couple pastries at the counter were over $20 What's the draw to this place? It's totally overpriced and the food is plain and unappealing The shining part of the whole experience was Shannon- the hostess. She was lovely I cannot at all recommend this restaurant- I feel ripped off and hungry.... read more

Rye bread, butter cookies, cream puffs, bagel chips, tuna salad, peaches, rugelach and cookies are just a handful of the magnificent delicacies you can find at Milton's. This Jewish Deli has been around for 26 years now, and it never fails to impress. Milton's has been a family favorite for my entire family for over two decades now. I had the pleasure of taking my husband and daughter here for the first time the other day and they loved it. My hubby enjoyed a cream puff that he devoured on the spot, and I purchased some butter cookies that melt in your mouth! I wanted to buy so much more (their tuna salad is to die for), but we were leaving the next day and there wasn't time to eat it. Like Arnold says though...I'll be back! Milton's Deli has everything from amazing baked goods to huge sandwiches, matzo ball soup, chicken pot pies, as well as many other Jewish foods that delight the senses. They know how to bake, cook, and serve quality food. The atmosphere is inviting and different than other delis. Milton's has lots of space, high ceilings, and because it's close to the racetrack they have fun race decor. The bakery case is my favorite part of the restaurant; just take a look for yourself and you will see! The staff here are attentive, friendly, and know their stuff. The one drawback is that it is pricey, but take into consideration the food quality, quantity, and location it isn't too much for what you are getting. If you can swing it I recommend Milton's for dine in or to go, you won't be disappointed! read more

I absolutely love their potato salad. Tastes like homemade. I live in Torrance and every time I come to Del Mar I have to get it.

Your classic deli. The menu has so many great choices. I went with the turkey sandwich on rye. The bread was so fresh and soft. They have a sit down area or a counter service. I also grabbed a few cookies at the counter afterwards. The kiss Cookie and lemon cookie were both very tasty! read more

Early lunch on a Friday with a friend. I'm glad we got there early. The parking lot at 12:30 pm when we left was a nightmare. Our waiter, Bryant R, was quick, kind, and helpful. My skirt steak salad was fresh and well prepared. My friend enjoyed her lunch as well. The menu is extensive, and they serve breakfast all day. They should clean up the condiment bottles. We went into the deli after eating and purchased items to go. read more

Very knowledgeable and on top of all of his tables. The place is busy so plan ahead. Parking can be tight so have a plan if you can't get a space right there. So this is a little meshuganeh.... $20 for a quart of matzo ball soup Not mad at the cost But damn talk about not tasting the soup before it's given to your customers. This soup was HORRIBLY SALTY. Way too much salt. Completely ruined the soup. Hey chef! Taste your food before you serve it.... But beyond that, Frustrated that no one has the decency to provide a spoon or napkins with a to go order.... I like how the manager can joke about the scooter I bring in to the business but yet can't make sure that I get utensils or even a napkin with my order. Milton has been around for a very long time. I used to drive by it fairly often on my way to work in pre-pandemic times. I finally had the opportunity to try for breakfast. I had the lox Benedict eggs. With a side of hashbrowns, the potato pancake that was used instead of an English muffin was good and crunchy. The lox was very flavorful and so was the sauce. The eggs were perfectly runny, and not overdone. The hashbrowns were excellent. And were made of fresh potatoes. The ambience was OK. I was sitting at the very end of their inside area and that was not as nice as decorated as towards the entrance. It also was a bit hot. I almost wish that I had instead sat on the few tables outside. also the table did not have hot sauce. I am however, quite intrigued by their menu, and will try to be back to try their Ruben sandwich and the rye bread, which is actually one of my favorite for toast. I also noticed that they have some lunch specials Monday through Friday, as well as a $9.99 breakfast special also Monday through Friday. The bakery items for sale also looked excellent, so I will have to be back to try them as well. parking Was challenging because there are so many other shops and a Whole Foods supermarket at this location. read more

I am solely reviewing takeaway here as I have not had the opportunity to dine in. I don't want to tell you all how amazing their ginger cookies are because there won't be any left...so I won't. Their chicken soup is great, their sandwiches, both hot and cold are made to your specifications. I can be finicky about texture, but never have any complaints with how Milton's stacks up (their sandwiches). They are a little pricey, but it is Del Mar...so it's to be expected. Wish I lived closer or spent more time in the area so I could dine in, but for now, takeaway is my jam. I've ordered both by phone and in-person. Service is pretty speedy and you can tell it's a popular place. read more

This was fantastic .. not fancy just good old fashion food . Best Rueben I've ever had :)

We went to Milton's in San Diego. We purchased a voucher from Groupon giving us $40 to spend. The cost of this voucher was $21.42. We ordered a sandwich with Chopped liver on one side and pastrami on the other side. We also ordered a cheese omelette. We had one coffee and one small orange juice. We were charged an additional $35.07. So in total, we paid $56.49. The food was Okay but we think that being charged $96.49 less $40 deducted from Groupon voucher =$56.49 is outrageous for what we had. We feel that we were being charged for everything that they could possibly charge us. We were also charged a gratuity fee of $10.66 (18%)... since when was a tip obligatory? We were also charged an extra $1.50 for the cheese on the omelette, $7 for a small orange juice and on the bill it said that they had the option to charge an additional 3% for the use of a credit card, to help offset processing fees. This seems like gouging at its best!! When I queried why I was being charged $15 x 2 for the sandwich that we had ordered, the management informed us that it was too late to query the price, we were told that he (the manager) could possibly have done something about the $30 charge, had we mentioned it earlier. We only queried the price once we had received the bill at the end of the meal. Overall this was an unpleasant experience, and we feel that we were being penalized for having used Groupon to help pay for the meal. I paid for the meal, but felt that we were being gouged. Once bitten twice shy!! read more

Havnt eaten here in years because even though the food was always top quality I always thought it was pricey for what it was. I will definitely be coming back very soon for the same deal read more

I've never dined in at Miltons's but I've gotten takeout a few times. Pros: the food is so good! I've tried the matzo ball soup, corned beef, and black and white cookies. All were excellent! The matzo ball soup comes with tons of chicken and noodles and the matzo balls are big and fluffy! The soup is very filling and can be eaten as it's own meal. The corned beef is very good too! I love to order it on a sandwich or simply by the pound. I also tried the black and white cookie and it was very good. It was soft and not dry at all! They do a good job packaging to go orders. The matzo balls come in a separate container from the soup and the liquid is extra plastic wrapped in case of spills. Cons: the deli counter is hard to navigate. It's always crowded when I'm in there and tucked in a corner so there's no organized line. It's unclear where to go to pickup takeout orders. The parking lot is awful! It's so overcrowded in this shopping center it takes forever to drive through to the large parking garage. I haven't figured out a convenient way to hop inside and pickup my order it's always a huge walk to get inside and then I have to wait in the deli line and then carry everything back to my car. The place is a little pricey especially for the corned beef sandwich but they give you a lot of food! The matzo ball soup is also expensive but I think the amount of food you get in the soup makes up for it. This is the only restaurant I've been to in Del Mar so maybe the pricing isn't unusual for the area. Overall, the food outweighs the hassle so I think it's worthwhile visiting Milton's especially if you're looking for Jewish deli style foods! read more

Great experience on this visit. Came for takeout to enjoy a nice office lunch with my love. We ordered The Reuben with homemade potato chips. We ordered the side of potato salad as well. They have an ENORMOUS DESSERT COUNTER! Fully stocked with freshly made cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, muffins, pastries, and all good sweets! We took a classic, giant, and yummy cheese danish to go. Everything was delicious and was well prepared. We will be back. It was cool to meet the owner and the lady who helped us was a tall blonde and very nice and customer friendly. We were looking at an article on the counter about the Milton's owner and a lady named "Claire" who created the yummy seasoned breads together in a partnership. Then, it clicked and I asked her if this was the same "Claire" from one of my fave brunch places, "Claire's On Cedros"...she said yes and I went crazy happy! What a coincidence that one of my fave bakery counters, "Milton's" and one of my fave brunch places, "Claire's On Cedros" are partners in this great bread, crackers, seasonings, etc..venture! They are also opening up a new fresh bagel shop inside Milton's! We will gonback to try them out. read more

This review is only for the triple decker sandwich I ordered for $21. 5 stars for the sandwich itself. Knocking a star off for the $3 split meal fee. We ordered the corn need, pastrami and swiss served on rye bread with a side of cole slaw and fresh cut fries. From what I saw in the photos it looked huge and it sure was. My husband and I split the sandwich and it was perfect for 2 people with the sides. It was deliciously scrumptious and the meat was tender and well brined. Perfectly executed and damn good. Food was average. Probably would have tasted better if the service was more timely. Eight of us sat down with 3 children at the table as well. Asked for 2 checks and server acknowledged request but did not deliver at end of meal. Food came for adults first and we watched our food get cold until the kids food came. Asked for fries on 2 meals and they were not given as they were likely not ordered by the server since it took until meals were almost done before fries were received. Had to get my own condiments while the server was away. Water never refilled. Had to get our own togo boxes for leftovers. Had to pay upfront because the server was no where to be seen after he dropped off check. If the server needed help then he could have asked from his co workers. Went in with a son for midweek, late lunch. Our first time here. We were welcomed graciously and seated immediately. A few crumbs in the booth were an annoying oversight. Server was friendly. Son loved his corned beef sandwich and my Cobb salad was good. Their blue cheese dressing is great - lots of avocado and tender, grilled chicken and a pile of bacon - some of it clumped together in big pieces and a little too chewy was kind of weird. I tell you I am not a fan of the handheld bill/check device. I would much rather sit with my receipt for a few minutes and figure out my gratuity on my time clock, not the restaurants nor the server's. This is a lost star for me in any restaurant. On the way out I grabbed a lemon bar to go for my husband. It was $8.00! Plus the POS system prompts another gratuity so a $9.00 lemon bar! My husband took one bite and threw the entire bar into the trash! "Way too bitter!" In 35 years my husband never met a lemon bar he didn't love. There's a lost star in that overpriced bar! Would I come back - yes! If for no other reason than to watch my son shovel that corned beef sandwich down like he was bulking up for winter hibernation! "Was it better than Canter's LA?" I asked, "much better!" He replied. read more
