Stopped by Solvang on my down the PCH to try some Danish treats. Got a bunch of things because everything looked so pretty and delicious. Unfortunately, when I got to sit down to enjoy my baked goodies I was a bit disappointed. All I really have to say is that I was left unsatisfied afterwards. This was the only bakery still open when I drove through the town, so I'm grateful that I got some food. But if I'm ever back I'll be sure to try some of the other spots open. read more

The ladies at the bakery were so rude and make the customers feel so uncomfortable . We just want to enjoy the coffee and the bread and they had a disgusting attitude. You cannot use the restroom a hour before they close the coffee shop, beause they were "cleaning them up" we wait, wait and wait. SO RUDE! Besides Olsens, this little bakery and cafe is on the top of my Solvang treats list! The staff is always ready to help you quickly even when they get busy! The one thing I LOVE here is their Cinnamon Danish! For those who love Olsen's cinnamon rolls, you NEED to try this and they just might win you over! Aebelskivers and Solvang goes hand in hand, so we walked into the first bakery that serves it while walking around. It took a few minutes to prep it because they will warm it up for you. Then off we go outside with high hopes to enjoy our light and fully balls with strawberry jams and powder sugar. Have to admit the jam was pretty good, however the dough of balls was just ...dough. It was just dense dough with no taste. This may just be the way how Aebelskivers is, but it's definitely not anything special. When I got home to check my credit card online after our Pismo trip weekend, I saw that I was charge $8 instead of $4 as advertised for these balls. I had to dispute my credit card for that $4 credit, definitely not paying anymore for it. It may be an honest mistake, but check your credit card for the correct amount being charge. read more

My first Danish pastry experience! Previously I only had Costco Danishes which are sugar bombs. The Danishes here (I tried an apple cream cheese one) were surprisingly much lighter and had a nice saltiness/almost savoriness to the pastry part that balanced out the fillings well. I also tried the French waffle with raspberry and cream and it was so delicate and had a ton of flaky layers that melted away. (And I didn't feel sugared out afterward which was great because I was planning to try other bakeries too that day.) read more

The princess cake was light and fresh, with a good amount of marzipan. Fantastic range, especially of danishes. The cold case was mouth-wateringly full and exciting to choose from. Every other table was blocked off so you aren't ever seated close to other customers. Hand sanitizer is provided. Zigged instead of zagged so that we could pass through Solvang on our way to San Jose and the timing couldn't have been anymore perfect! The town was still mostly asleep, but all the bakeries were open for business. We grabbed a few favorites and a cup of coffee and strolled around the quiet town. I love mornings like this! We peeked in windows, snapped some photos and enjoyed our sweets. I don't remember the name but our favorite was a long skinny, flaky, cream filled pastry that was to die for! I visited with a friend on April 19th. We are locals. Being the middle of the week, it wasn't busy. The pastry was very good and the coffee was just mediocre. The service was good. The young lady that waited on us was friendly and chatted with us a bit. For all of this I give them a 5 . The problem was that they no longer take cash. Only plastic. My bill was $7.61. I wanted to pay cash and not use a credit card for such a small purchase. They no longer provide senior discounts or locals discounts. Who does the owner think is going to keep them in business when it's slow and there are no tourists in town??? It's the locals. These are all changes since the first of the year. I will NOT be back. We visited and bought items at almost every bakery in Solvang--except this one. We got to the counter where only a couple people were buying items and we stood by the register to pick items right there. Then a crowd of people came in. We were standing right there at the beginning of the line and it would have taken five seconds for one of four staff to listen to us and grab the items we wanted, but they ignored us both and went to other customers, even when we got their attention. On the bright side, they saved us a few hundred unnecessary empty calories and inspired me to write reviews for all the other helpful and courteous bakeries we visited in Solvang (as soon as we finish eating their goods). Someone else might have looked around and thought something prejudicial was going on, but that's not my first assumption. My opinion of the establishment is already low enough without assuming that. read more

When my family and I walked in we already felt a weird ambiance but we were so excited to try the pastries so we ignored the weird vibes. When we finally reached the place to order the girl who took our or order barely listened and to our first impression was not very friendly but regardless we payed for our pastries and left. To be honest, the pastries were quite good About an hour later I came back to try their vanilla cone. As I walked into the ordering line, the same girl who had previously took my family's order proceeds to approach me and asked "do you need anything?". I went ahead and told her I just wanted a vanilla cone to which she responded "okay!" and went to the ice cream machine Since she was already helping the family that was in front of me in line with some cones too I thought that she'd just get to my cone when she was done As I stood there patiently waiting for her to return I glanced over where they had their ice cream machines. I watched this girl try to serve ice cream from a machine that was clearly empty. I've worked at fast food and when an ice cream machine is becoming slow during the serving process you gotta refill it. Did this girl think to do so? No. She proceeded to play around and I watched her make one of the droopiest cones and she was so close to serving that to the family in front of me until her coworker stopped her She then finally got the bright idea to refill the ice cream machine and after like 30 minutes she came back and gave the cone she missed to the family in front of me. Though as she did that she completely ignored me even though I was clearly waiting for her When she was back to the line up area she proceed to once again ignore me and almost started helping some family that came wayyy after me I approached her and asked her if she could get my cone to which she responded "is someone helping you?". At this point my patience had run low so I told her "yeah, you were, remember? You approached me then asked me what I needed then left for 30 minutes while I've been standing here" It finally clicked to her that she forgot about our earlier interaction and she proceeds to go get my cone and then hands it to me and looks so incredibly pissed. I pay and say thank you and leave. She did not care for any thank yous I know the whole time I could've just left but after being there for so long I did not want to leave and feel like I wasted my time. So I stupidly stayed A little note: the girl who served me e needs to refresh on her food handlers permit. She was biting her nails and sticking her fingers all up in her mouth and without washing them she continued working on the cones. That honestly should've been my queue to leave but I stupidly didn't so just keep in mind that the people who work here do not care about your food safety read more
