I am a fan of Dandy Salon for sure! I go here on a regular basis for hair, pedicures, and facials. The girl that does the facials is AMAZING! I would highly recommend her to anyone. She is very respectable of what you want, lets you relax and is super friendly. I am always happy when I leave there. Pedicures are usually done very well as well. The spa manager is absolutely amazing. She is super funny and is always very friendly. I find the spa to be one of the cleanest I have ever been to and quiet as well. I would recommend to anyone. For hair, I have mixed reviews. Because of the cost, I would think that the hair stylists should be very educated in what would suit you and what wouldn't. However, every time I go, I usually only get a trim because I am too scared to try anything else and I have extremely long hair so I am scared they will cut it too short. The reason for the 4 star in this area is because I am only getting a trim, I would think that the cost shouldn't be as high as it is. I do feel that the costs for the spa are fair though and have no complaints there. The salon itself is beautiful and very modern. I will continue to go to Dandy Salon and Spa! :) read more

I use to be a happy client but recently I have had two of my appointments scheduled improperly. Once I was told when I had already shown up for my appointment that my aesthetician had called in sick, so they cancelled my appointment. The second time the receptionist booked me in for an appointment at a time they were actually not available. Found the receptionist to be rude and that did not add positively to my overall experience either. read more

I went to the Dandy Salon because of a Living Social hair-cut and style promotion. The staff were all really friendly, and the atmosphere is quite nice. This may seem in contrast to the single star I have rated this salon, but please read on. The haircut portion of my services could be called non-existent, as she barely trimmed my bangs. The biggest problem is in that I booked additional services, and had my hair coloured. Instead of the 3 1/2 hours estimated (which is already high), it took 6 hours... There was no reason to bleach all of my hair when 90% of it was perfect. I missed the cocktail event I was going to, and now my hair is like straw. My hair length is mid-way down my back, but I am considering a pixie cut because I'm not sure it will recover. It's two days later, and the colour (which looked very nice the day it was done) is already fading. To say I am disappointed is a bit of an understatement, and I will return (though somewhat ashamedly) to my regular hair dresser never to stray again. ** two weeks later, hair is still in poor condition, in fact it's falling out, and as expected, the colour has faded to a light tinny brown. It was supposed to be a dark burgundy-close-to-black. I will note that I did enjoy a lovely manicure. As I mentioned, I'm typing this review two days later; as of now my nails are still unchipped, and beautifully sculpted. They really made an effort to make the manicure a luxurious and special experience. read more

I moved out here a couple of months ago and after searching through a couple salon listings I came across this place. I called in and went against my gut feeling of going with a master stylist. My over all experience was great, the stylist was nice however the cut was horrible. I described Exactly what I wanted prior to her starting and when I got home I cried and cancelled my plans for the Entire weekend. I had been growing my hair out for the past year and a half and had slowly cut my hair into a deep V. My hair was midway down my back and when I left I had a straight across cut and my hair was at most two inches over my shoulder. To this day I don't feel comfortable with my hair, I typically wear it up. To emphasize how upset I am: I signed up to this site just to write this and I've never written a complaint about a company, ever. Go with a master stylist or go elsewhere! read more

Had a Brazilian here this afternoon and it was easily my best waxing experience. The rooms are very private, and very clean without being ugly. The decor is beautiful. Downstairs you can have hair services done and upstairs for esthetics. My esthetician was clearly a seasoned professional, and the results show it. Very minimal bleeding and redness for my typically sensitive skin, and the price is right, I've had Brazilians from 60 to 110 in Edmonton and for $70 this service was a steal. read more

My second haircut here, and I think that I'll be coming back! Dandy is very beautiful, which will strike you as you come in. For those that go to University of Alberta or even take any form of public transport, it's fairly close to Health Sciences LRT Station (8 minute walk or a 1-2 minute bus ride) and it's on Whyte Ave. Taylor is fantastic at his craft and easy to talk to (or not talk to, if that's your thing). I have long hair, so there's not much to really do that's dramatically visible, but yay for subtle touches to make it the hair 'make sense' overall. Note that my haircut was complimentary courtesy of the owner but this doesn't influence my changed review. I'm very happy that a solution was offered to my previous negative experience and it just goes to show that Dandy takes care of both their online presence and their customers, which are hallmarks of a thriving young salon. First time I've been super happy with (not merely resigned to) a haircut! I definitely recommend booking a higher level stylist. Taylor is great! read more

Haircut review: It can be hit or miss (based on the stylist)...but they are one of the better salons in the city so I keep coming back.

I went to Dandy initially for an armpit wax, I was paired up with Paula. She was very sweet, however I was a little unsure with the quality of her work. She seemed unable to do an effective job but I chalked it up to a bed day and figured I'd give her a fair chance so I booked for a desperately needed full leg/Brazilian. Now lets be clear, I am not new to waxing, I have an incredibly high pain tolerance and I'm usually not really phased by the process. With Paula however it was exceedingly painful. I actually yelled out in pain a few times and I was left with a huge amount of remaining hair, I mean I literally had to shave afterwards because on parts of my leg huge strips were left behind and around my cooch was no better. I had my hair grown to a proper length and everything, the problem was with her technique. She even ADMITTED to me that she was physically unable to rip the strips away fast enough on my left side due to some sort of injury, yes I feel for you but maybe adjust your practice to your abilities. Awful. She was also not very good at respecting the whole concept of draping and almost whipped my breast out while thoughtlessly moving my towel without asking. I can't wait to find a good waxer in this city, I know they are out there! read more

DANDY LOSES SIGHT OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY I booked some spa services for myself and 2 of my friends for a Birthday outing. We were on our way to our appointment when one of their employee's phoned and left a really snotty message, accusing us of not showing up for our appointment . We quickly phoned them back as we were literally just finding parking and to our knowledge we were going to be 20 mins early. One of ladies who answered the phone accused us of being a half hour late. I explained to her when initially booked the appointment I had a specific time in mind - which was booked. I am not sure if the mistake was mine or there's however I apologized and advised them we were right around the corner. Though we humbly took responsibility for the mix up the girl on the phone was very accusatory - and this was off putting being this was our first time at Dandy . When we arrived, what I am assuming was the girl I spoke to on the phone approached us and began making rude implications and schooling us about how much we disrupted the entire schedule for the day - she kept stressing that they would have to "modify" the services. They also mixed up who was getting what - which shouldn't have made a big deal except they made it one. One of my friends who I booked services for was a male - he and I both booked the Mani-Pedi package and my girlfriend just booked a Pedi. They appeared to be all flustered over this and just kept repeating that they did not have the product required to do a full male mani pedi? I still have no reason why this was a big deal? No one asked me anything about gender when I booked the services. He and I go and get spa services together all the time and its never been an issue anywhere else nor did it make a difference. You think the if it mattered so much a light bulb would have went off for the receptionist who assisted me in booking the services for a person named Brent. I don't know too many girls named Brent, do you? At anyrate - both he and I offered to just go with the pedi's and cancel the manicures if it would help them adhere to their schedule. He also stated he was not fussy and would be fine with whatever products they use on females - it appeared they did not like this. They basically told us they would still do both it would just have to be "modified" ..and there that magic word was again. On the bright side, the other two girls who worked on us were really friendly. I got the gel polish on my hands and just regular polish on my feet. For those of you who haven't had gel polish it lasts weeks. Basically it should last until it either grows off or you have it removed - which ever comes first. The over all finish was uneven (globby) and it peeled off every single finger within a week! My pedi turned out fine but the foot message lasted maybe 5 minutes and it was the part I was looking forward to the most and though our services were clearly "modified" our party was still charged full price for a less than mediocre experience. Overall - the services themselves would have been what I'd expect from a brand new student at Marvell or from some ghetto acrylic nail salon but heres the kicker: Approximately 2 weeks after our appointment a lady from Dandy phoned me at work to conduct a routine follow up call. I was impressed and if there was a time they could have redeemed themselves this was it. She started by introducing herself and asked how the services were. I respectfully began to explain that we were a little disappointed with how we were treated when we got there and that my gel nail polish had completely come off. After I began to speak I could hear the women cover the receiver and begin speaking to her colleagues. She took her hand of the receiver a couple times while I speaking and said "Oh yes" and "uh huh" . Completely floored, I asked her if she was listening to what I was trying to say and she didnt even hear me. She cut me off mid sentence and said she had marked my feedback down and she had a client so she had to let me go.. I politely thanked her and let her go and she had no clue I knew she didnt listen to a word I said. All in all, I will never go back to this place. It was a major let down from start to finish , they are in dire need of a lesson in manners but I'm afraid their ego is too big to care. Today I had an appointment with Megan. She painted my toe nails black, put gel nails on my fingers and waxed my eyebrows. I have to say that it was one of the best experiences I've had. Megan was very professional, chatty and friendly. She explained the process - which to me was important having never had gel nails before. She explained the care needed afterwards. I used a Groupon and went to see Becky for a shampoo, cut, all over foil, and style. Becky was extremely professional and offered fantastic service. I have been to other salons and I felt that Becky's level of attentiveness was one of the best I had experienced. She was always asking to make sure the colour was exactly what I wanted and offered to change it a slight tint if I wanted. She would definitely go out of her way to ensure that I was happy with the cut or styling even if it would seem totally outrageous. I spent nearly 4 hours there because my hair doesn't take colour very well and Becky was extremely patient. Everything was a pleasure and not a chore for her and it was clear that customer satisfaction was very important to her. She has a great 'can-do' attitude and I'm very fortunate to have found her as an excellent stylist in my neck of the woods. Thanks Dandy! I have to give Dandys a mixed review... I have been here three times for hair colour. It really does depend who you get, the first colour was great but the stylist moved on, the second was ok but the third faded just near the root after a couple of washes with product bought there and when I gave feedback management did nothing and nothing was really done to properly rectify it, I would have been better off doing it myself and saving $200. My advice is to get a referral from someone who is a customer and has had the same service you are looking for. In the end this was not great value for the price I am sorry to say. read more

I had a Brazilian wax here and couldn't believe that the ecstatic in had actually ripped strips of skin off. I have been getting Brazilian waxes for 5 years and this has never happened to me before. I gave dandy another chance and found that the same thing happened twice in a row. I do not suggest anyone getting waxed here. Came in looking for updo for a wedding. I brought two pictures in for reference and we decided my hair. The junior stylists did not know how to braid hair. I left with two very tight braids that looked like cornrows. She struggled several times to braid. My hair did not hold the curls she put in. After 1.5 hrs I left with part of my scalp showing and undone curls. I spent a good 90 dollars and rushed the rest of the afternoon trying to fix my hair on my own. read more

I had a haircut here today by Melissa. She is new to Dandy. She was very pleasant. I let her know before hand that not a lot of people can cut my hair to make me look good. Lots of stylists can't seem to work with my face shape. So, I told her ... "no pressure". Ha! I have to say, for a newbie, she did a darn good job on my hair. It looked very good when I left, and it felt lighter and it formed to my face shape. It was a nice start to my day. I really like Dandy's atmosphere and it always smells fantastic. Found a Groupon for Dandy so decided to give it a try. Had a junior stylist named Cassidy and she is adorable and did a great job. Unfortunately when I got home the color didn't look very good after a couple washes. Not her fault, my hair is just damaged from years of bleaching. I called the salon and they booked me right in. The owner, Pam, and her consulted and they fixed me up and I got exactly what I wanted. I am very pleased with them all and they have a new loyal client!! read more

I've been coming to this Salon and Spa for a couple years, ever since my friend recommended it when I was desperately searching for a hair stylist I could be loyal to. My first couple of visits went alright, loved the haircuts and service from the lady I became I regular to, to me at the time it was worth the extremely high hair cut costs (average $80 for just a trim). Unfortunately, my hair stylists moved away and I went back to the salon a couple more times thinking that the other hair stylists were just as good. After about three visits, it was no longer worth the money to continue coming here for my salon needs. However, I did discover the spa section of the place and it is the new reason I continue to come in. In addition, I do enjoy the ambiance of the spa, the customer service is always friendly and polite here, they make you feel at home. They always have flexible schedule's and will allow last minute bookings without any problems. Overall I continue to come here for the dependable and consistent customer service detail rather than the inconsistent quality of the services provided. read more

okay so, i have been to dandy on more than one occasion, the first occasion i got my hair done the stylist was absoultely fab! she did a great job! i wanted to get my hair cut by the same stylist the next day but wasnt able to, so was booked in with a different stylist, i come to my appt, and while i am explaining what i want and asking what do u think works best etc?, the stylist is not even interested in my hair, and claims he is the co owner!!!! to my surprise i was expecting something beautiful! instead walked out with a super cuts hair cut that cost me a much higher penny!!! it was just a daunting experience. i wouldnt go back to that stylist ever!! dandy is a good salon? but the stylists are all so different i recommened getting a review from someone thats been there before that recommends a stylist, no point in paying so much if your not satisified at the end of the day!! :) read more

I booked the Fusion Hot Stone Pedicure and it was amazing. What I loved: Theresa A., the talented lady who did the pedicure, the Moroccan-like space- lovely design!, the scrub, massage which was amazing, and expert polish application. Would have rated this a 5 star experience except for the fact that the receptionist was not very friendly, both when I booked the appointment and in person. She did offer a lovely tea, but was either overworked or just aloof- she did not smile once, not when she greeted me nor when I paid for the pedicure and a product purchase. I felt like I was adding to her work load. My only other suggestion would be to price the Aveda products for customers to see- otherwise customers have to ask the price of anything they might be interested in. So, fabulous job on the salon atmosphere, cozy pedicure space, and pedicure!! My only suggestion is to have super friendly front end staff to greet the customers as that is both your first and last impression. read more

I had a great experience in the salon today! I was in with my sister who was getting her hair done and I thought I'd see if I could get a spur of the moment pedicure and as it turns out I was able to get the express pedicure with Paula. Did I mention I had my 4 month old baby with me?! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and did not give me attitude because I had my child with me ( which has happened in other places.) Becky who was my sisters stylist was amazing and allowed me to sit in the empty station next to her to chat while I waited for my pedicure. Paula who completed my pedicure was also fantastic, she assisted me with my daughter while I got settled and was an absolute gem when she started to get fussy, moving me into a private room so I would not disturb the other client. She also allowed me to stay in the room and settle my daughter after we were done and did not try and hustle me out. I was very impressed and would absolutely return for services! As for prices I'm not sure about salon services but the spa services are all responsibly priced read more
