I told her I wanted something feminine, hair on the sides I could sweep forward, and even showed her a past photo of when my bangs had been butchered (I told her I feel anxious every time I come to the salon because of awful cuts I've received like it) and she went ahead and cut them too short anyway saying that we would start with that and could always cut them shorter if I wanted. I showed her photos of what I thought was feminine vs young and funky. I did NOT get feminine. (I'm also 50!) I asked that my highlights not be spikey, I showed her a photo with more chunks, but was given spikey - and a copper colour, not the auburn I asked for. I returned a few days later to ask her to shave the sides and back one shorter so there was contrast between the top and sides. I felt the need to talk to her about how upset I was. While talking I told her that I was very disappointed with my cut and that it wasn't what I asked for. She agreed with me that 1) my head was an odd shape now with this cut 2) that it was NOT going to grow out nicely (another thing I told her was important to me and after two weeks it is already sprouting up in odd spots), 3) to keep my cowlick in mind (big hole there now that she agreed was hard to deal with) and 4) I should probably see a barber next time instead of going to a salon because they would be more qualified with a cut like this. With tip (that I absolutely regret paying) I paid over $250 for this. She seemed nervous during the cut, she didn't show me the sides or back with a mirror so I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home, and when you go to pay and the guy at the counter can't muster up a "you look great!" (despite what he thinks), it makes you feel awful. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning. She couldn't even offer the slightest apology.

I messaged Alicia on Instagram and thankfully, she was able to fit me in. The salon itself is quite beautiful! I think she did an amazing job! I chopped off like 4 inches of hair and it was a big change but I honestly love my hair. Too bad I have nowhere to go! But it is a lot more manageable now. I also chopped off a lot of old dead hair that was coloured back in 2019. Thankfully it's all gone! I'll definitely come back for cuts with Alicia I think she did an awesome job! Went with the 40 minute bump. I had gotten there for the rescheduled time and the stylist I had been booked with was still working with a client with her wet hair. Bummed out, I waited another half hour for the lady to finish up, which was especially bad since the client was being fussy and too chatty. Finally I was taken in and the hairdresser was clearly stressed. I showed her the color I wanted with several examples and was explaining to her why I wanted a keratin treatment for that extra gloss and healthy ends. She somehow talked me out of the keratin treatment and suggested a gloss toner treatment. I knew this was just a tactic for a treatment less time consuming for her. Took her forever to mix the color and she had to go back a second time to go mix up some more for me. When she did the gloss I could hear the empty bottle putting out so little into my hair. I expected her to go grab a new one but she didnt and just pretended everything was fine. Every single time I was under the hair cure helmut it was WAY TOO HOT and being a little shy I just pushed through the pain but was worried about burns. Finally when the lady blow dried my hair she was SO ROUGH with the brush and went from the top down forcefully with the brush. I could hear my hair breaking and this was heartbreaking since I like to take care of my hair gently. When it was dry I could see it wasn't right or close to what I wanted. It was a dark brown but it was way more neutral/green undertone rather than the chocolate I wanted. Disappointed, I just went with it. I was too tired from my full day of classes to ask for revisions. At the end of it all the price was close to 300 dollars with a mediocre tip included. I knew that this was a nice salon and that comes with a pricetag but this was much more than what their online pricing breakdown was or how much i got for the color quote. I left disappointed and defeated. The color lasted like 2 months?? Another disappointment. But for being a "master stylist", Debbie has messed up my haircut not once, but twice. I'm writing this review now because i went to a korean salon and they cut my hair 100x better than what i had before Uneven sides, bad blunt cuts, poor layers that made my hair lay flat, and she seemed to be unsure of doing hairstyles that weren't your typical asian haircut. She'll follow instructions one moment, then ignore a different set of instructions the next this salon is overpriced. I was charged $300 for hair services which i later found out was a scam because other salons do it at $150. you pay 30 for a men trim that only covers your side and back that Debbie rushes through and finishes in 10 minutes. This is ok for fades but just go to a barber for cheaper... any korean hairstyle out there that isn't two block will look off with only your side and back trimmed but the top growing too long If you're not specifically looking for an asian stylist, yes, I could recommend this salon if not for the surplus in costs. But if you have korean/asian hair like me I recommend just going to an actual korean salon.

This was a very odd experience for me, and I've really struggled with how to review it…read more I've been looking for a salon close to home - when I saw one of the stylists from this salon post a promo on one of my neighbourhood facebook pages. The deal was amazing - $100 for a cut and colour. There were two stylists specifically named in the post, so it was unclear if everyone was offering this deal or just the two named. I called the salon and the person on the other end of the phone wasn't really interested in listening to me. I had to repeat myself a few times and clarify what I was saying. He booked me with somebody else, so I asked him to confirm if everyone was participating in the promotion, he said "I think so". I confirmed the booking, but was left feeling uneasy. I decided to reach out directly to the stylist who made the post to ask if everyone was offering the promo, or just the two of them. She didn't answer that question, but did move me to her. Ok great - it was confusing, but I was excited to be booked in. I was going for a solid colour and a trim. She was excited with what I wanted, but suggested a couple of "money pieces" at the front, which she would lighten and then use a toner on to "pop". She was so excited, so I said go for it! The stylist I saw seems to know what he's doing. The end result was really nice, HOWEVER - the process itself was confusing and frustrating. She worked soooo slowly as she applied the colour. I'm not sure if she was hungover, or not feeling well or what, but I swear to god, it almost seemed like she was falling asleep a few times. She also was incredibly rough as she worked. She used a foil board to apply the lightener around my face, but she kept pushing it into my forehead and moving it around - I'm surprised I didn't end up with bruises. She was also constantly removing dye from my face (not just near my hairline, but also from my cheek, my eyebrow, and near my mouth somehow), and her glove made contact with my lip more than once (they ask you to remove your mask once you're in the chair). At one point, she admitted that she had forgotten what she was doing in respect to the "money pieces", and had wasted time trying to "perfect the blonde", when we were in fact actually adding colour to them, not leaving them blonde. In the end, my 2 hour appointment took 3 hours. The "money pieces" don't really look any different than the rest of my hair, unless in very specific light and were a waste of time in my opinion. And we didn't even have time for the trim because her next client had to wait while we finished. Other stylists offered to step in to help her catch up, but she was reluctant to let them. Here's the kicker - While the price was good and the colour turned out nice, once I got to my car I discovered that there were GLOBS of purple dye in my ears. I'll post some pictures, but it's hard to see - there was a lot of dye in there. 2 stars because the salon is clean and the colour turned out nice enough, but I won't be back. The whole experience was just weird. **EDIT TO ADD**: Kudos to the owner, Kelly for reaching out to me and apologizing for my experience. He did offer to do my trim for free as well, but I really don't want to go back there and risk running into the original stylist. Also - within 3 weeks of my appointment, my hair has faded into a pretty disappointing brassy colour. Nothing like the photos I posted at all.

When I brought up some issues with my hair they suggested some products, but were not too pushy about getting me to buy their products. I bought one thing, and I did not ask for a breakdown, shampoo, conditioning, cut and styling for long hair was probably around $80-90. If you leave a nice review, they will give a 10% discount on products. I was also told they do free touch ups and trimming for bangs, so that will come in handy in a week or two.

This place is so much more because of the staff. So the store front caught my attention initially. It is off 104 Ave. Great locale. Parking can be found easily across the street in the Harveys and Best Buy parking lot (street parking is a pain and the Dennys parking lot is iffy. Not sure if they tow?) The building itself looks like a historic brick build. The salon is a glass house. So much natural light! It can get quite warm on a sunny day. And shockingly, that much natural light can make every blemish on your face come to bite you. The lobby has your standard fare - tea, coffee, water upon arrival. Grest smelling soap and warm towels in the unisex bathroom. Updated and modern furniture. Skincare and haircare lines are promoted and beautifully displayed. But man, it's all about the people that work there! They represent style! Blue hair, purple hair, dreads, braids, shaved, tattoos, piercings....and skill. I've gone to the salon with and without a beauty agenda. I've seen 3 different stylists. They've nailed my vanilla look. I walk out of there bouncing. Things to know: Make an appointment. You can just show up, but you might not get in. Check in with Yelp upon arrival! You will get a 10% discount that you can apply to your visit.
