My hairstylist moved away..so I was faced with the dilemma of finding a new stylist and not just any stylist, a good one. I had heard about a new salon that just opened so I called Salon Front to find out who the stylists were and was told they were all formerly employed at Avanti and were now all Owner/Operators of Salon Front. I thought that this would be a good thing because..I figured if you are working for yourself you would be more apt to do a better job and give a higher quality of customer service considering the outcome /profits benefit you, the Owner, not your employer. That said, after a short phone consult in which I explained that I have long blonde, past the shoulder hair (which was in very good condition and healthy) and I wanted a master stylist, that I usually get foil highlights ; 1 blonde and 1 dark with a paint in between the foils color to hide my older hairs (aka gray..lol) and asked which stylist would best suit my needs? I was told that Kelly was the most experienced and did Khoury's colors, so I booked with Kelly. At my 1st appt, I brought several photos of my hair and photos from magazines showing the exact color I wanted and asked her to do exactly as in the picture and to cut off 1-2 inches, NO MORE. I even asked " Do you understand what I am asking for ? She said oh yes, no problem, I understand what you want. I said " Great, go ahead then" To make a very long story short I left very unhappy. The color was definitely NOT what I had asked for and she cut off closer to 4 inches. Stage 2 of the story: I had purchased some Groupons shorty after booking my 1st appt and could not get a refund for them so although I was unhappy I went back, for 2 reasons: # 1 - I am a reasonable person and decided to give Kelly the benefit of the doubt because: I was a new client and she did not know my hair. Her scissor happiness I would discuss with her. #2 - I did not want to waste the $70 I spent on Groupons. So I went back. OMG visit # 2, I was appalled. Not only did she ruin my hair but the conversation was shocking. To my horror, it seemed that Kelly considers herself to be better than most people, that because she worked at Avanti, which was once a HOT salon to go to for the pathetic social climbing Status Snobs in Edmonton, she is above other people. NEWS FLASH..Avanti was hot 20 yrs ago and so what. I never went back to her, but because I was still stuck with Groupon #2 I went back but booked with another stylist, Melissa. The day of my 1 st appointment I went through basically the same thing that I did with Kelly. Took pictures explained in detail what I wanted and was explicit when I said. I would like my blonde highlights a cool tone NOT WARM-NO GOLD- I want it to be COOL- NEUTRAL. Please color my hair my natural color: a level 5 BROWN; ash or neutral- NO RED, NO GOLD in the color please. Melissa argued with me over my color choice and told me I was wrong my hair is not a level 5. Seriously? Unbeknownst to her I used to be a hairstylist and I think I know what color my hair is! Anyway she colored my hair did my foils and even while sitting in the chair waiting for the color to develop I could tell that she did not do what I asked. I sat there for 4 agonizing hours awaiting my doom. OMG, sure enough, I ended up with brassy blonde..UGLY UGLEEEE hair and my hair is fried. I had to go back again to try and get it fixed. When I walked in that day I could tell that Melissa was miffed. She wanted just to put a toner in my hair and be done with it. I know better and asked that she please redo it and be SUPER careful because she had damaged it so much already...get this..she said: oh well ya I don't know what happened Kelly did not record your color and I could not be bothered to take the time to do foils like other stylists so I just slice it out" are you frikin kiddin me? She charged me $250.00 to fry my hair. Are u nuts? I was obviously temporarily insane because I was stupid enough and paid it. In my defense I think I was in shock and was trying to hold back the tears at the cash register. My hair is ruined. Melissa knew I was upset and she knew she WRECKED my hair and did not even so much as apologize. To top it all off, all she really did was recommend that I spend another $90 on a good deep conditioner to help save my hair. I understand what the other reviewer meant. Melissa had a wedding to go to on day 1 of my daymare; day 2 she double booked me with a client that she had previously cancelled on. Part of the reason why she left the bleach on my hair too long and she was going to the U2 concert that day, her focus was on her life not me! Honestly the most awesome salon I've been to. I've driven by the place thousands of times and always thought I've wanted to get my hair done there. Who wouldn't want to get their hair done in a big atrium-type setting?! Well when my stylist Kate Slemko decided to move salons and join the Salon Front team my wish came true. Obviously Kate is fabulous and talented and I trust her with every strand of hair on my head or else I wouldn't have followed her to the new salon. But the new salon is actually the coolest salon. It's nice and sleek looking and contemporary and everything was so laid back and comfortable. No one was rushing around and everything was welcoming and relaxed. All the natural daylight pouring into the salon and being able to sit in the daylight in the atrium area while getting my hair done was fantastic and beats any fluorescent or artificial lighting scheme that every other salon I've been to has. The girls that I have seen/met there are very hip and trendy and I know for a fact Kate is super hip and trendy and is literally capable of any hair masterpiece you can think of! I moved from another Province about a 1 1/2 years ago. I had the same stylist for quite a few years there. I wasn't completely happy with the end result from a couple of stylists I've been to in Edmonton. I've always been a brunette, and in that transitionary stage of my life where the white was coming in more than I wanted. After some Internet research it was suggested I could go to an ash blonde. My daughter went to see Yanna and I absolutely loved what she did with her hair, so I thought I'd give Yanna a try. Yanna worked absolute wonders with the color and cut. Yanna explained the whole science behind graying, color, products, and how to blow dry my hair. I was thoroughly impressed. I've never been one to purchase a box color off the shelf and try to do my own hair, cause you get what you pay for. I'm not one to tell a professional stylist how to cut my hair from a picture in a book, as it may look good on the model but be completely wrong for the shape of my face. It was not my first time at Salon Front, I had usually seen Khorey for about 7 years now, I had followed him to salon front from avanti. When I tried to book an appointment with khorey they had notified me that he no longer was with them and they kindly offered another stylist to me. A little scared to be quite honest because I hadn't seen another hairstylist in over 7 years. YIKES! So I decided to go ahead and book with a stylist. They had booked me in with Gabriel. I must say she was FANTASTIC. I never knew what I was missing out on these last 7 years. She made me feel very comfortable, understood what I wanted, and gave me exactly what I wanted. I had never left a salon feeling so great, and may I add she is HILARIOUS! She was able to connect with me like I had known her for years, and I feel as if I truly made a long term friend. As I never really write reviews I was so estatic about the service I had at Salon Front I had to write a review. I have not only found a new hairstylist,but a new friend! My stylist at Salon Front is Melanie Machnee. She's new to the salon, but I actually followed her from her old salon because she's so awesome. I'm happy she switched Salons, because I really like Salon Front. Very clean, stylish and neat. Plus big, beautiful windows. Was offered tea and Christmas cookies while I was waiting. Mel also let me pull up a picture on the computer in the cutting room while I was waiting, so I could show her the cut I wanted (I forgot to put it on my phone). I think it's such a good idea to have a computer available to customers in the salon for this sort of thing. As for Mel, she was great as usual. She's always sweet and kind, as well as professional. worst salon ever! Everytime I went, the color would wash out in 2 washes. That's because THEY DON'T MEASURE WHAT THEY MIX. I've had bad bangs, bad cuts, and the worst color. They always offer to fix it, but you know what? I don't have another 3 hours to sit there while you double book. Unprofessional stylists, they use offensive language, and wouldn't listen to what I wanted. They actually would work it so that I would have to come in more often, and spend more money. The worst was when my stylist saw I had an appointment with a different stylist (on her day off) and cancelled it for me without telling me. I arrived at the salon the day before my vacation with no appointment. Even though they had time with other stylists, no one would do my hair because I was so-and-so's client. I have to say, I don't normally write reviews, but I had to this time. I have been going to Salon Front for about a year now. My experiences have always been amazing. Melissa was the hairdresser given to me, and I was very happy. My hair was dark brown and she had to do a color correction to get it back to blond. Although it took a LONG time and some fried hair (not her fault) She continually followed up with me reminding me to come in for my FREE conditioning treatments on a weekly basis. She would not rest until my hair was healthy again. Now my hair again is healthy and blond and the blond that she just did was AMAZING. The best yet! I went out that night after she styled it really curly and I was the talk of the bar. Everyone loved my hair. I was in my glory. I have been going to Melissa at Salon Front for about a year and a half now, maybe even closer to two years. I couldn't ever go to anyone else (except for her sister Sarah who took care of my hair once and she was equally great at what she does), I love the job she does. The salon itself is nice, clean, bright and always has good music. Besides always getting a great cut and wonderful colour, Melissa and Sarah are really friendly, funny girls. I find the prices really reasonable for the quality that they offer and Melissa always makes sure to do my hair so that when I leave the salon, I feel like a million bucks. On top of all of this, they offer hair miles, which you can redeem for hair services. It really is a great program. Salon Front will always get my business. read more

I was on the search for a salon and stylist in Edmonton, I was referred to Salon Front by a Calgary salon owner. I booked an appointment and received a call the week between Christmas and New Years to let me know that the stylist i had booked with was not going to be there in January, I was asked if I wanted to rebook with another stylist...after talking to Melissa, I booked appointments for myself and a girlfriend (a stylist herself). We both had a great experience at Salon Front...Melissa created for both of us fabulous cuts and styles. Thank you to Gabbi, who took the initiative and treated another girlfriend who was with us to a shampoo, deep condition and style, great job. Will we be back...damn rights we will. Melissa at Salon Front has been my hairstylist for about 8 years now. She has cut and colored my hair countless times and also made my hair beautiful for a number of weddings/stagettes/birthday parties. She has done my makeup too. I highly recommend Melissa. I have referred all of my friends to her and even strangers who have randomly complimented me. I have always told my girlfriends if I ever have a destination wedding, I would absolutely pay for Melissa and her sister Sarah to come with and be our hair/makeup team. Salon Front is a great hair salon. I trust them 100%. If you aren't happy with something, all you have to do is call and they do whatever they can for you. I recently went and checked out Salon Front. From what I've seen it's a great place, lots of natural light, unlike some other stuffy salons. My stylist was Melanie. She was great! After talking for a bit we decided what to do with my hair. I'm generally quiet adventurous so it was great to have her experiment with a few different shades. I was in the salon for a couple hours which can seem like a long time but Melanie really made me feel really comfortable and relaxed. When I saw the final product, Loved it! It's been a few days now and I've even had a couple people stop me on the street to ask who's done my hair. I saw Afton at Salon Front and she was fantastic. I have thin long blonde hair and it had been natural with highlights for some time. Afton brightened my hair up and made it look better than it has in years. Every time my hair has been done elsewhere it would just look the same and cost a fortune. After she did my hair I was very pleased and received multiple compliments. Afton has done my hair quite a few times now, and every time she does it my thin hair seems a lot fuller and thicker. She is an amazing stylist. Afton also showed me how to easily style my hair. The curls in my hair looked good for three days after she styled it. I have been seeing Sarah and Melissa for many years. They have always been fantastic. They welcome you with a big smile, and good conversation every time you get your hair done. They genuinely care about what you want and how you want it. Their knowledge in colour and colour correction is second to none. I have gone from black, to brown to platinum and my hair is still very healthy and beautiful. My cuts always make me feel sexy when I leave. They both come very highly recommended by me. read more

I got my hair cut & colored today by Gabrielle & looks and FEELS fantastic. My hair was completely dry and brittle when I showed up.
