This was a very odd experience for me, and I've really struggled with how to review it. I've been looking for a salon close to home - when I saw one of the stylists from this salon post a promo on one of my neighbourhood facebook pages. The deal was amazing - $100 for a cut and colour. There were two stylists specifically named in the post, so it was unclear if everyone was offering this deal or just the two named. I called the salon and the person on the other end of the phone wasn't really interested in listening to me. I had to repeat myself a few times and clarify what I was saying. He booked me with somebody else, so I asked him to confirm if everyone was participating in the promotion, he said "I think so". I confirmed the booking, but was left feeling uneasy. I decided to reach out directly to the stylist who made the post to ask if everyone was offering the promo, or just the two of them. She didn't answer that question, but did move me to her. Ok great - it was confusing, but I was excited to be booked in. I was going for a solid colour and a trim. She was excited with what I wanted, but suggested a couple of "money pieces" at the front, which she would lighten and then use a toner on to "pop". She was so excited, so I said go for it! The stylist I saw seems to know what he's doing. The end result was really nice, HOWEVER - the process itself was confusing and frustrating. She worked soooo slowly as she applied the colour. I'm not sure if she was hungover, or not feeling well or what, but I swear to god, it almost seemed like she was falling asleep a few times. She also was incredibly rough as she worked. She used a foil board to apply the lightener around my face, but she kept pushing it into my forehead and moving it around - I'm surprised I didn't end up with bruises. She was also constantly removing dye from my face (not just near my hairline, but also from my cheek, my eyebrow, and near my mouth somehow), and her glove made contact with my lip more than once (they ask you to remove your mask once you're in the chair). At one point, she admitted that she had forgotten what she was doing in respect to the "money pieces", and had wasted time trying to "perfect the blonde", when we were in fact actually adding colour to them, not leaving them blonde. In the end, my 2 hour appointment took 3 hours. The "money pieces" don't really look any different than the rest of my hair, unless in very specific light and were a waste of time in my opinion. And we didn't even have time for the trim because her next client had to wait while we finished. Other stylists offered to step in to help her catch up, but she was reluctant to let them. Here's the kicker - While the price was good and the colour turned out nice, once I got to my car I discovered that there were GLOBS of purple dye in my ears. I'll post some pictures, but it's hard to see - there was a lot of dye in there. 2 stars because the salon is clean and the colour turned out nice enough, but I won't be back. The whole experience was just weird. **EDIT TO ADD**: Kudos to the owner, Kelly for reaching out to me and apologizing for my experience. He did offer to do my trim for free as well, but I really don't want to go back there and risk running into the original stylist. Also - within 3 weeks of my appointment, my hair has faded into a pretty disappointing brassy colour. Nothing like the photos I posted at all. read more

I see Alana here, who I have followed from 2 previous salons as she is just that awesome. She's professional, listens to what the client wants, is knowledge about the latest products and styles, courteous, and just a spectacular human being overall. It's pretty cool to get compliments on my hair every week because of Alana's expertise! She's interesting and pleasant to chat with as well. She's been doing my hair at least a solid 2 years now, and my hair and myself honestly can't live without her now. We adore her! I've also seen Sam, super lovely and bubbly gal who totally rocks purple hair like I have never seen before!!! The two guys that work there, Kelly, the owner, and Jonas, friendly and always at a steady busy, are welcoming, accommodating, and from what I have seen, do dapper work! The salon itself is always clean, bright, definitely family friendly, quality products are offered, great prices, usually can walk in and get service right away. Speaking of which, I recall a time where I did have an appt., which ran late, and 20 minutes past my appt. time, I volunteered to come back the following day, which would have been no big deal to me, but the owner, Kelly, insisted I be given a discount for my next visit, which I did later really appreciate later on as it made me feel the actual business itself, the owner, not just my lovely hairstylist, appreciated my steady business. Overall, an awesome place for an awesome hair cut and style. I couldn't be happier. read more

She is amazing! She not only cut and pat highlights in my hair, she gave me some very helpful hair tips! I love my new hairdo!!! I would not hesitate to have either Kelly or Yanna work on my hair. I came in with "mom hair"... halfway down my back, somewhat wavy, yet frustratingly coarse and undisciplined. I asked for a change... and I said the stylist couldn't touch it with a straightening iron, or blow dry it straight. I am capable of using those things, but I wanted a style that didn't require them. I walked out with the cutest wavy bob, and much to my surprise, it thinned out my jawline! I always thought I couldn't pull off a bob because I have a wide jaw! Everyone loves my hair, it's easy to do, easy to straighten when I want to, and though I wasn't as impressed with the next stylist I had, I'll go back to the first one next time. read more

Not overly impressed with this place. I went in for a trim a few days ago. I wasn't greeted at all even though there was 3 woman sitting at the front desk. So I said hello and asked for a haircut. I was sat down in the chair and I told her what I wanted. She started cutting my hair, no wash, not even a sprits from a water bottle. She spent a total of 5 minutes and I walked out looking exactly the same and not satisfied. I paid 35 dollars for 5 minutes. Probably won't be going back. read more

If I could give this salon no stars I would. The only thing that is good about this place is that it is decently clean and very modern inside. They also sell great products. I have given this place 2 chance to do my hair. The first experience was a pretty simple task - just one solid color all over. The stylist got the color correct, but the cut was terrible. I have think long hair. He cut everything blunt and cut way more then I asked him to. Nothing was flowing or blending the way it is supposed to. I wanted my bangs to be trimmed, instead he chopped them so short, they were an inch above my eyebrows. The most recent incident - I wanted to get my solid color touched up and some highlights throughout my whole entire head. I wanted it to look LIGHTER than when I walked in there. He put tons of foils in my hair and I thought that this was going to look great. By the end of it, 3 hours later & 140.00 later, It did not look ANY different than when I walked in. I was so excited to have my hair done and I left disappointed and discouraged. He also cut my hair bluntly and again it had no flow. I went home with an extremely itchy scalp, the underneath layer still have color in it. Might I add, the guy who cut my hair made me feel extremely uncomfortable. he made a couple remarks to me that were very unprofessional. I would NEVER recommend this salon to anyone! If I had my hair done by the OWNERS, I wonder what they have hired for stylists. Save your money & don't go to Matrix Salon. read more

Professionalism at it's best.....Not!!!!! I now know why I wasn't given a mirror to see the back of my hair, it was chopped into these little layers that I can barely straighten and is constantly sticking off. But that I can live with a bad hair cut not the first time but what gets me most is walking home from that place not knowing she had hairdye all over the back of my shirt and never even felt the need to tell me it was there let alone apologize. Decided to get my hair cut which was (was) really long, and since I had always taken my son to Matrix, I thought I would try there as well. I walked in, not greeted at all, sat down and waited then I was asked 15 min later if I wanted a haircut and was told to come in. And away we went... he asked how much I wanted off, I said two inches and even showed him exactly what I thought two inches were and we agreed to it... then he said ok! and started hacking off my hair in huge clumps! I was horrified! No wash, no nothing, just water sprayed on my hair from a mister. My hair is already thin as it is, and after he had hacked off 5 inches of my hair ALL around and IN LAYERS no less, he takes the thinning shears and starts chopping away... ALL OVER MY HAIR, front, back, sides, middle, everywhere. Just so you can understand where I am coming from with this...my hair was down to my belly button and it is now up ABOVE my shoulders... after my (2 inches off) haircut. Pissed? Yes I am. I am completely disgusted with it. He never bothered to blow dry it, never bothered to use any product on it, never bothered to straighten it, never even bothered to give me a mirror to show me what it looked like in the back or anything. As soon as he felt he was done hacking away at my hair, he walked away and started punching in the debit machine. Yes I understand there are other people who just came in and are wanting their hair cut as well, but when you are paying 47.75 for a haircut and you get hacked to bits and shoved out the door before you can even see what it looks like to say anything... yeah time to complain. This is the worst haircut I have ever had and I will not ever be back and I will not be taking my son there again either. Not even if it were free. Disgusted doesn't even cover it. Thanks Matrix. Lesson learned. Save yourself the money and the aggravation and embarrassment, take your business elsewhere. read more

I have been getting my hair done at matrix salon for a while now and have always received excellent service, I have actually seen a few of the stylists there now and have always been treated very well. They always make sure I am comfortable offering drinks and making sure I feel at home. I have gotten everything for my hair done there from colors and cuts to updos and styles. I have always been very happy with my services and will definitely keep going back. It's where I go for for all of my hair needs and products! read more

Three weeks ago I tried out this salon, as the regular salon I went to damaged my hair. It's close by my house so I thought I'd give it a try. Mariana was my stylist and she was fantastic! So honest about the condition of my hair, yet positive about how we can repair it. I didn't feel so hopeless anymore. She gave me a shampoo and cut to reshape my style and feet rid of some of the damage. It looked great and I felt so much better. She showed me some products that would help, which I purchased and use. Today I decided to try the salon for a colour. Again, Mariana was very honest about what I wanted and what would work for my hair. While my colour was processing, I was listening to the stylists and their clients. The stylists at this salon really care about their clients. They aren't just a dollar sign to them. Leaving the salon with a fresh colour and new style to try, without losing half the hair on my head, I felt like a million bucks! This will be my regular salon from now on! read more
