I like hennessey because of the great hours and quick wait times. I went once and liked it so I went back. Short wait, made shorter by the fact they gave me a beverage. Small considerations help. Friendly front of house staff. Really relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Staff listened and did a great job. I think I have the most difficult hair in the world. I got licked by a cow in a dozen different hair places and I've got three whirpools. I think that it's a myth that guys hair is easier to cut because if you make a mistake, it's all the more visible! I've had two different stylists and they both were nice and were chatty when I was chatty, and let me sit in zen bliss when I was in zen bliss. Gotta know your clients. read more

Easter long weekend and most of the small salons across town were closed for business. But my "bangs" had grown so long they could reach my nose. What's a girl to do? I popped into Southgate Centre and took a gander at that cute salon I walk past every time I'm there. I was just a walk-in, but they were able to see me pretty quickly. The receptionist even offered to hang up my jacket, even though I wasn't going to be there very long. My stylist was nice, although she didn't say much. We had a bit of confusion over the length and style that she would be cutting. They looked fine when I left the salon, but when I got home, I realized it was the kind of haircut that only looks good when it's first cut. As soon as I brushed through my bangs or moved them in any way, they had a terrible, choppy look to them. It was not good. I ended up fixing them myself at home. Heard about this salon from a friend. I was in need of a good stylist after my last experience at another salon that didn't go so well. My appointment was with Sarah C. the daughter of a friend that I met through knitting. After my last disastrous, expensive experience I was left with a two inch band of very dark blond hair two inches down from my re-growth. My hair is light blond with white re-growth so I wanted to get rid of this dark band of colour. I thought I was going to have to bleach it but Sarah came up with a different solution to touch-up the re-growth and add a few foils through out concentrating on the front, so if I pulled it back or up the dark brand would not be visible. It turned out great! Sarah LISTENED to what I wanted which sometimes stylists forget to do. I told her I just wanted to fix the colour, get a trim and a bit of thinning. Giving her free rein to style it as she wanted. The finished product was great! Usually I can't wait to get somewhere so I can "fix it" so I don't look like a total idiot. I've been here a handful of times. Most recently, I went in for a wash and blow dry. The wash was rough and uncomfortable. I didn't think he could mess up a blow dry, but I was mistaken. He used way too much Moroccan oil and my hair, especially the fringe, was left greasy-looking. So I told him: "I'm not happy with it; my hair looks oily." Instead of offering to rewash it, he 1. Tried to convince me I couldn't see properly 2. Offered to flat iron my hair 3. Asked me if I had ever used Moroccan oil 4. Said it was shiny, that's why it looked greasy... I begged him to stop touching my hair and paid $47. I even tipped him $5. I don't know why. I feel weird about not tipping anything. I went to the other location to show them what he had done. They said "go back and tell them." I was like forget it. Live and learn. Never going to this place again. That was the last time I overpay for terrible service. read more

My hair was in the middle of my back and I asked the hairdresser to cut off the tips of my hair, she cut off at the shoulders and made a mess. I guess she has no experience with cuts and chemical ( colors ). Dislike what she did, I will never go back there, Southgate... I gave her a nice tip, both times, the highlights didn't turned the ton of blond I like, I came back to discuss that with her, but, I decided that would be fine, the color will be set soon and I asked her to cut... I just have hair treatment. Then I pay for the 84$ . I do not why the just treatment and washing hair are so expensive .

When I went to the Hennessey it was because I worked in the mall and it was convenient. That said it was EXTREMELY over priced for the service I received. David was my hair dresser, and he was good. He went out of his way to make me feel beautiful and I'm sure it was a marketing thing to make me come back. I have extensions, and my hair has been dyed to match them, the first time I went to David I brought the extensions in an literally said do whatever, just as long as my hair matches these. He looked at them for a while dyed my hair, it matched great, it cost me $250 dollars. He did several treatments without telling me that it was an additional cost. And he never asked me "would you like a ___ treatment" it was always "I'm going to do a whatever" and then charge you $50 for it!. The next time I went to him he talked about putting some low lights in with my highlights and I said - "whatever you're the professional, as long as it matches" FYI I did bring in my extensions in again. He put ASH in my hair. My extension are not Ashy they are a warm caramel, honey blonde. NOT ASH BROWN! I was disappointed right away and let him know that I didn't think it would match my extensions. He's tried to convince me it was just the lights and that the dark would come out after two washes. I paid almost $300 for this colour that I didn't want. And I was again charged for several extras that I was not aware of. And the colour didn't wash out after two washs. I went back and had him correct it. Which he fried my hair, and it still didn't match. Thankfully he covered the cost of this one. But I didn't wear my extension for 3 months, and then went to someone else who actually knows what their doing, and charges me less. Went to the salon by the Sears side of the mall. My normal hairdressers place was under renos. In the middle of my haircut I was told by the stylist that he's a senior stylist so it was going to cost more. I'm a dude and my hair cuts are about $28. This guys charged me close to $50. He did a great job on my hair but I'm not paying $50 for a mens cut. read more

Had my hair done today by a junior stylist: Hayleigh She did an amazing job of a blended balayage that looked very natural. First stylist that I have had that actually listened and did exactly what I asked and she took the time to ensure it was done properly. I would definitely recommend her and will go back and see her in particular again. read more

Incredibly, astoundingly disappointed with the results. Pros: The stylist was incredibly friendly, and the complementary coffee was a nice touch. Cons: The fact that I took in a picture of obviously blonde hair, and stressed that I wanted to go VERY blonde several times, and ended up with brown hair with very subtle blonde highlights. When I mentioned this to the stylist, she simply stated that she had noted the colours used in this appointment, and if I wanted to go lighter, we could schedule another appointment, and that was that. I was noticeably upset at this point, and that feeling doubled when I arrived at the register. Apparently I was expected to pay +$250 for what I essentially consider a trim and root coverage. I can't fully explain how completely unhappy I am with my hair. I feel like I would've been better off with a bottle of peroxide and a pair of scissors at home. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Hennessey, and I will not be recommending this salon to others. read more

I'm loving my hair! My hairstylist, Sarah C. did an amazing job! My hair is jet black and I was hesitant to dye my hair for the first time but Sarah is very knowledgeable with color treatments and knew exactly what I wanted and what I wanted to avoid - she was super accommodating to my requests (final rinse in cold water, letting me sit instead of having my head glued on to the sink) and very polite. The results turned out to be better than I expected - no dry ends or breakage! read more

These guys can't even cut straight. I called in advance to make an appointment and asked for someone who is trained cutting curly hair, as it's more difficult to cut than straight. The woman on the other end told me there was someone who could and set an appointment. I walked into the salon and asked the stylist, just to make sure something didn't get botched, and she said she was. I told her that I Just wanted a trim and I proceeded to get a mullet. I guess a trim for her was making everything even around my head. My hair was longer in the front before--it's curlier in the front and when longer dries to equal--now I have an awkward mullet where my hair is a good 2 inches shorter in the front for a period and then long all the way back. TL;DR : They botched up a simple request for someone competent with curly hair, said they were okay with curly hair, and then proceeded to give me a mullet; I could have gotten a kindergartener to do a better job. read more

I've gotten my hair done here and loved it, and other times it's been a trainwreck. I have naturally curly hair so I always specify that when I ask for an appointment. I got an older lady that was mediocre. She did offer some very helpful advice about my scalp but as far as my hair cut experience, it was horrible. I have a double cartilage piercing, a tragus piercing as well as my rook done. She managed to snag every one with her comb and pull one of my cartilage through my ear. Talk about painful. I wasn't compensated for this at all and I had to pay for my overly expensive haircut and leave with a hole in my ear. Not impressed Hennessey. read more

I usually go to Eveline Charles or Pink Lime, and don;t mind paying good money for good service. I was charged $79 for a basic trim/cut for my 14 yr old. They were not up front or willing to explain the ridiculous charge. I have learned my lesson and will be going back to Eveline Charles for the same quality/better at half the price. At least post your prices and be up front, as I would never pay that for a trim. The end result was alright, but it was a simple straight trim, nothing difficult, and we left within 40 min feeling really ripped off. read more

I've tried this salon 3 times. The first time I received a really nice cut. The second time, the stylist I went to the first time was on holidays but I was desperate so I chose someone in the same price range. Big mistake. I don't think she had heard of scissors, everything was done with a razor. And she barely thinned my extremely thick hair even though I asked twice for her to thin it. My third visit was with the first person. A nice haircut but definately not as good as the first time. I'll give her one more chance but that's it. read more

I decided to try Hennessy salon to quickly get my roots touched up. After dying my roots the stylist asked if she could just take a bit of my ends to make my hair healthy so I said yes, not expecting it to cost much money for a minute of her time. I was shocked to realize that my bill came to $164 just for a quick trim and a root touch up. This is what I'd usually pay for foils, a full dye and cut. I will never come back here again. I feel like I was ripped off and they weren't up front with how much my trim was going to add to the cost. They also didn't mention I was getting a senior stilts which greatly added to the price. Was here a couple weeks ago. Waited 30 plus minutes for a mens haircut, with no acknowledgment. Over the phone they told me it was 30$ for a mens cut, it cost 40$ and it was the worst Hair cut I've ever gotten, Hair dressers name was Sebastian, he was shaking the entire time. Haircut is uneven and just plain terrible. More than 3 people asked if I cut it myself, and they weren't joking. I have no words left, just terrible. read more

The first time I went there, it wasn't too bad, she cut my hair moderately well. But the second time i had a HORRIBLE experience. I had a skinny Asian guy (sorry forgot his name). Not only did he smell so bad that it was extremely suffocating but he did not cut my hair the way i wanted! i asked for layers and he did not give me layers, from what it seemed like i don't even think he knew how to cut layers! It was such a waste of money! I was so disappointed i wouldn't recommend him to anyone, so beware of him, because not only does he make you feel extremely uncomfortable, he doesn't know how to cut hair at all! read more

I went to get my hair shampooed and blow dried. First things first, he was incredibly hard on my hair. He put so much pressure on my scalp while shampooing that it was not a relaxing experience. I have bangs and he did not blow dry my bangs to the front, so they did not sit nicely when he went to straighten them. He made them uneven and they did not look good. He even asked if I wanted to straighten them myself trying to hand the straighten over to me. Not professional whatsoever. I asked for my hair to be styled wavy which I have had done a bunch of times. He did it curly and different on each side. He couldn't even curl it all the same way, so it was a mess. I had to go home and wash my hair and make it look presentable. It was a complete waste of money and I will never go to see him again. I do not recommend going to see Justin. read more

I had an absolutely horrible experience at one of the Hennessey Salons in Southgate mall. It was at the newer location. I walked in and asked if I could get an appointment relatively quickly. I conveniently got an appointment at noon which was in half an hour. So I walked the mall and wasted the half hour. I returned and had a seat while 5 salon employees giggled at the front desk of the salon, no one asking to help me. I waited for 15 minutes and then I asked when my appointment was going to happen. I was told that "you must have made it at the other location", to which I said that I made the appointment with you 30 minutes ago. Then they explained to me that I must be mistaken and that there are 2 salons in the mall. Wow I was frustrated, then they told me that someone had moved my appointment and that I should take a seat. So I took a seat and then several walk in people came in the salon and got right in. So after a whole hour of wasted time and just walked out and I will never go back. The customer service was absolutely ridiculous. The staff is more concerned with their social lives than customer service and making sure that people returned. I will make sure that I tell everyone I know to never go to this place. read more

I was treated rudely from the start..given a gown and change room and left there for about 10 mins...the guy finally came over,sat me down and walked away.came back and i told him what i wanted,he walked away and was sitting at the front(there are a lot of mirrors so you can see all around).i was going from blonde to brown with some blonde peekaboos...when i called , i told her this is what i wanted and she quoted me 110-170$. we started lifting my roots to get the blonde peekboos and he said we needed to leave it on for 20mins, 35 mins later came back and said" i was at the front checking prices for you ( which i didnt request) and it will run around the 140 mark. " i told him it was fine, as i was willing to go a little overboard because i thought the quality would have been better.he left me to lift and came back and said he was now thinking i was sitting at about 230$ .i said it was fine and than he says" well the ladies at the front want you to pay now before we get started so we can take our time , as were closing in a bit." i knew it was bull, he spent the entire time treating me as if i were trash and couldnt afford their high end salon. anyway , i paid and we began. than he didn't have a clue how to go about it so he got another stylist to show/tell him..it took him over an hour to apply it and than leaves.i have brown dye on my face and ears and no one to wipe it.their closed now so there isnt anyone around to ask if they could get me a cloth.he comes back and had the nerve to tell me they were closed and wanted to go home and was wondering if i would wash out and come back in the morning for my cut !!! after him spending my entire appointment at the front chatting to snobby girls. i told him no and he disappered... i thought they had left me in the salon. we washed and blow dried about 80% and cut, and thats it.. done... 228 $ and i walked out feeling as if i were not good enough/ugly/gross hair/ just down right ashamed and sad. read more

I have been going to Hennessy salon for years, southgate west in edmonton. I booked an appointment for last saturday (June 9) to get a cut, shine treatment, and to get my hair done up because it was my bridal shower that day. I got the the salon and they didnt have me scheduled. They told me that I was maybe at the wrong location since there ate two in southgate, I assured them I did not have the wrong location as I ALWAYS go to hennessy west- they called the other location and I was not booked there. Then they tried to tell me I was probably booked on a different day, I told them that since it was my bridal shower that day I would not have booked it for another day, once again they checked and I wasnt booked any other day at all, so pretty much the girl on the phone just DIDNT book me! They found someone to cut my hair, and although she was very nice, she just rushed me through really quickly because she had someone booked right away. I didnt get a shine treatment, or my hair done up, only a cut. And the cut itself is awful! Its really choppy and not at all what I would have liked. So not only did I have a bad cut on the day of my bridal shower, I had to go home and do my own hair for it too. Upon leaving I wasnt even offered a discount or anything!! $70 bucks for an awful haircut and to feel really embarassed and unimportant. I am just so upset because it was an important day and my whole morning was ruined by this experience. Its really too bad also because I always go to hennessy (kendra is wonderful) but I dont know if I will go back. read more
