seafood pancake

3.5 stars Friendly service, nice decor, and delicious food. The spicy pork taco was the best of the four plates we tried. The meat was tender, not very spicy, but very flavorful. The summer roll was refreshing twist on the traditional Vietnamese version using perilla leaves. The rice paper was soft and tasted like it was freshly rolled. I decided to go light on the firey dipping sauce after the first bite. The sliders and seafood pancake were not bad, but not distinctive enough for me to order again. One major flaw of the fusion food here was that they use super market quality ingredients for the none Korean components, such as store bought tortilla, buns, and yellow American cheese. The tacos could have been so much better if it was assembled more like a taqueria taco than a Taco Bell taco. Same thing could be said for the sliders, a little brioche bun with real aged cheddar could have better compliment the burger and caramelized kimchi.

If you are one that isn't sure if Korean food is for you and want to ease into it, DaMoim is probably a good place for you to go. If however, you have enjoyed Korean food for some time, I'd go to a more traditional sport. I had the seafood bibimbap and compared to the traditional restaurants I frequent, DaMoim doesn't hold its own at all. The banchan they served was tiny and didn't offer to replenish. And the bibimbap rice was quite moist and no crust from a hot bowl. The atmosphere is well beyond what I am used to and I give them kudos for that, but I'd rather them focus on the food. Not the place for me but still glad I gave them a shot.

We had a nice lunch here. We had Bul-dog quesadilla, kimchi quesadilla, galbi tacos, and mandoo. All were very tasty. We were the only people here for Saturday lunch so the service was good and the place was quiet. This is at the back of a strip mall so it's a little difficult to see from the street.

3.5 stars I like the decor of this place! The interior of DaMoim was comforting to me for some reason; it reminds me of a hip living room. The pictures on the wall and the bar add a mix of edge that you'd find in a big city like NY. I ordered the Galbi tacos, which were good. The meat was tender and cut into bite-size friendly pieces. One thing I'd suggest is for the tacos to have more interesting fillings. The shredded yellow cheese and lettuce were typical and a bit boring. If they added onions and cilantro, it'd be perfect. The green sauce that comes with it is great. It's not too spicy but very flavorful to dip your taco in! The kimchi quesadilla was what my friend ordered. He's Korean and he loves kimchi dearly, so he enjoyed the dish. I thought it was overpowering, but for all you kimchi lovers, it was stuffed with kimchi +cheese! We also ordered a dumpling appetizer, but the name escapes me. I think it was filled with pork and veggies. Kinda on the salty side!

My friends and I picked a random Korean restaurant in Annandale we hadn't tried before. DaMoim is set up like a bar and I believe it also has karaoke rooms. I don't think it was used to serving actual sit down customers. But the food was very good! My group had Korean tacos, vegetable bibimbap, kimchee fried rice, and super duper fried vegetable dumplings (although I asked for pork/beef). The service came when you needed them (like most asian restaurants), but nothing more (although the waitress saw me struggling to open the to-go bag and helped me out). The place looks a little sketchy from the outside because it's in a corner and there weren't many customers. I'm sure they're more packed on weekends when people use the bar and karaoke rooms (we came on a Tuesday). Food was good though!

Strolled into this spot randomly to have a drink and maybe eat something. We ended up getting, spring rolls and another dish which were pretty tasty. Also, we ended up having just one drink because the whole time the server gave us an uncomfortable vibe. She wasn't too welcoming. Other than the service, the two finger foods were welcoming.

About a 1-1.5: The hubs and I were really excited in trying this place out, as DaMoim seemed to be known for their Korean-fusion dishes. The restaurant itself was clean and modern and the service was pretty friendly. We started off with some DaMoim Fried Chicken wings, half soy ginger and half spicy - the chicken itself was crispy, but I wasn't a fan of either of the coating sauces as it was either too vinegar-y or way too spicy. We also tried the Galbi Tacos that came on warm tortillas with a sesame-chili salsa; there was also a slaw of julienne lettuce and scallions, topped with crushed sesame seeds. The galbi itself was very wet and made the taco itself very soggy; the flavor of it was more sweet than savory, so we both were not fans of that. We've also tried the Kimchi Quesadilla, which was filled with kimchi and perilla leaves and a mixture of cheddar and jack cheese in a large tortilla. The tortilla itself was very dry, and the filling was a weird combination - I am a huge fan of perilla, but I don't think the combination of the perilla and the cheese works! The kimchi itself was also not caramelized as it was described, and the quesadilla seemed to not be greased up or cooked long enough. There was also a Korean hot dog that was available that was topped with bulgogi - the bulgogi was also very wet and more on the sweeter side, just like the galbi, and there was also some sweet tomato salsa that came with that (that I wasn't a fan of). I appreciated that the dog itself was large, but it didn't have a nice snap or taste to it, either. I'm glad I was able to finally check this place out but would not come back! +Korean-fusion dishes +sweeter marinades (galbi, bulgogi) +friendly staff :D

I love the interior here and the food quality. The only bad thing about this place was the service. I definitely do not like coming to restaurants and have bad customer services. I mean they suppose to treat everyone equally. I came here on a friday night with my boyfriend and we were greeted by the manager and he was very polite but our server was so rude and did not smile at us at all. I had to call her couple of times for her attention because she was busy texting while serving us or standing at the bar texting. She did not refill our water at all because once again she was busy texting and I had to call her. I ordered the vegetarian fried rice and my boyfriend ordered galbi tacos. I had to admit, the food was really good. We love it there. We love the environment and food quality a lot, but definitely not sure if we should return if we got our service that bad the first time. Parking isn't a problem at all since there were plenty when we got there and customers at the bar definitely respect the place. They didn't smoke inside at all but were nicely step outside and do so. I was very amazed how considerate they were. Overall, everything else was good beside the service.

(Full review on blog) ...DaMoim has traditional dishes like galbi beef short ribs and bulgoki marinated sirloin, but the real adventure lies in modern creations like mango and shrimp summer rolls; garlic and sake steamed mussels; and Kogi-esque offerings like spicy pork tacos, kimchi quesadillas and beef-kimchi sliders. The kimchi quesadilla is a lively wake-up call for the mouth. A generous, soft flour tortilla surrounds warm, gooey Cheddar and Jack cheeses; acidic, caramelized, spicy kimchi strikes a perfect balance between sweet and sour. I had to close my eyes for a moment to savor all that was happening to me...

I fell in love with this place many moons ago, actually at a yelp meetup for a korean night top be exact (this one of the many reasons I love yelp!). It's a posh little spot in the corner not too far from honey pig. The staff is always so outgoing and warm. This hidden gem is my first choice when in K-town. I have tried a lot on their menu -I frequent this place with my Korean friend so she is always ordering new things each time because it's done to perfection as she says. I just haven't tried the fusion dishes or the korean fried chicken yet. My favorite is the bibimbap, hands down the best I've ever had and is consistently good! I can never get enough of their dried sweet and spicy squid to compliment the dish. The bulgogi is very yummy too! The mandu is addictive. There is this spicy seafood dish I get sometimes too just can't remember the name but it's ever soo yummy. Oh and the kimchi fried rice soo darn good! The drinks are yummy and well executed and the wine selection is good! If you're in annandale and craving korean or you aren't as adventurous their is something.on the menu for you, so check it out.

When I dined here on a Wednesday night back in February the dining area was empty. The only patrons were at the bar and seemed to be regulars based on the bartenders knowing their names -- kinda like an Asian version of Cheers, I guess. The atmosphere was laid back with its dimly lit interior, making for a quiet meal. Service was friendly and quick, considering I was the only diner. The meal started off with some pretty tasty banchan. I barely made my way through those dishes before my order of spring rolls ($5) showed up. The order consisted of four tiny rolls filled with crab, shrimp, and vegetables. My entree was their galbi dolsot bibimbop ($12). My favorite part of this classic dish is always the crust at the bottom formed by the crispy rice, but this version was lacking in that regard. It was also lacking in veggies and could have benefited from a bolder galbi flavor. The meat itself was tender and plentiful, but a better ratio among all the ingredients would have made for a better dish.

-- 3.5 stars -- I enjoyed dining here at DaMoim. I only tried one dish here - the Galbi tacos - and I was pretty satisfied. I think I was still having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea of Korean short ribs topped with shredded cheese and sour cream, but it somehow worked! I finished all three that came with my entree. I also enjoyed the modern ambiance. I wouldn't mind coming back here to try some of their other dishes, especially the sliders!

I thought DaMoim would be a good place for drink and karaoke. It does have a proper dining area and full bar and separate rooms for karaoke but I didn't feel like it's a place for lunch or dinner without drinks. I heard about korean/mexican fusion dish at DaMoim so I went there to try kimchee quesadilla and fusion taco. Like most korean eateries, there is always something complimentary. Here we got edamame. Quesadilla and taco were OK but it didn't impress me with flavor or creativity. Combination of kimchee or korean spicy pork with mexican toppings like guacamole/sour cream or cheese sounded interesting but actual flavor wasn't anything special or different for my taste.. DaMoim has regular korean dishes too. I might return if I feel like having both korean and mexican with drinks someday but I am not sure I will go back for just a meal.

I'm thinking that many people who come here know already what they want, because even before we cracked open our menus, the server was immediately at our table expecting us to place our order. When we told her we weren't ready yet, she left, but came back less than a minute later and then stood there waiting for us to place our order. So I ordered the Sullangtang, which is bone broth with brisket and noodles. JP ordered the Yukgaejang, a spicy red broth with veggies and flank steak. We also ordered the fried dumplings. I don't know if the fried dumplings were vegetable or pork, but they were very good, made even better with a delicious dipping sauce. As hoped, banchan was served with our meal, but was just cubes of daikon radish (kkakdugi) and kimchi. The kkakdugi and kimchi were fresh and tasty. Even if the Sullantang recipe is traditional, I was disappointed. The broth was thin and very bland. However, I was able to jazz it up and make it into a pretty good soup by adding spoonfuls of the Yukgaejang broth and the fried dumpling sauce, plus salt and pepper. The Yukgaejang, topped with crispy noodles, was the better of the two soups. It had a lively flavor and as billed on the menu, was indeed spicy. The menu is limited, almost exclusively vegetable and beef dishes, but there is a seafood pancake and whelk (mollusk) dish. No chicken or pork dishes. Overall, our experience was decent and we would certainly consider returning. Shin Chon has plenty of off-street parking.

We ordered a spread: gyoza with sweet and spicy sauce, kimchi pancakes, fried shrimp, soy garlic wings, takoyaki, LA galbi, and jjampong with noodles... plus way too many drinks. We arrived early and scored prime seats by the bar, which turned out to be perfect, especially once the night shifted into more of a club vibe with a DJ. The energy was great, and most of the food was surprisingly delicious -- everything hit except the jjampong. We were expecting udon noodles, but it came with thin, clear noodles instead, and the flavor was a bit off for us. That said, the staff handled everything perfectly, and it didn't take away from the rest of the experience. Between the food, drinks, and nightlife atmosphere, we had an awesome time and will definitely be back.
