Everything tasted clean and well prepared, and it was honestly just really nice to eat. I also tried the soondooboo, which was warm, comforting, and flavorful. I remember going there many times after clubbing back in college, this was pre-COVID era!!! When we visited last week around 9:00 PM, the restaurant was less than half full. It was honestly sad to see Yechon like this. We initially went for our usual Yechon Special #2, which comes with a sashimi appetizer, but unfortunately the sushi counter had already closed (something that never used to happen). Our waitress offered $5 off since the sashimi wasn't available. We declined!!! Instead, we ordered à la carte: Yukgaejang and Galbi Dolsot Bibimbap. The Yukgaejang was delicious and served piping hot. The bibimbap was just as I remembered--plentiful and flavorful. And of course, my favorite: the kimchi. A forever solid place. I came with my 2 adult daughters and two godsons on a Thursday night after 8pm. Although the sushi bar was closed, the rest of the restaurant was business as usual. It had been over 18 months since we've visited and we missed it. The menu had some updates since we've last visited. Needless to say, my eyes were much bigger than my stomach! The servings are huge and the prices are very reasonable. The waitress was friendly and patient- she assisted my daughter with ordering something new. I ordered warm sake for the first time at this location. It went excellent with the spicy chicken with rice meal I ordered. I had one of my daughter's dumplings which was also amazing. We love going to Yechon for a Korean BBQ eating experience. We are creature of habit, so we always get the pork belly (2 orders minimum!) and the seafood pancakes (haemul pajeon). For tonight's dinner, we ordered mandu gui, 5 potstickers filled with ground meat with kimchi. We also ordered bulgogi where we devoured this dish within minutes. Perfectly seasoned, the beef was a premium cut with hardly any fat nor chewy pieces. I wrapped my meat in lettuce and added a little bit of rice along with the side dishes including kimchi, pickled cucumbers, etc. I dipped in the sesame oil filled with salt and pepper and, oh my, what was boring by themselves, this lettuce wrap of mine was so good! It was half filled with customers tonight. A family of 5 came in after us, and their conversation was quiet due to the vent above us that was constantly on while the staff was cooking our pork belly. And so, I would say the ambiance was really good. The service here is far from 5 stars, but their food made up for somewhat abrupt behavior from the service that we were able to ignore and just enjoyed our conversation between the 3 of us. I know there are many places to get Korean BBQ experience here in Annandale, Virginia, which is known as Koreantown, but I think you should give Yechon a try to see the quality of meats they use. Solid NOVA Korean restaurant, but they face some stiff competition from other Annandale / Centerville spots. I came with a mid-sized (5 people) group around 7 PM on a Saturday, and they were thankfully able to squeeze us in despite it being the peak dinner rush. The portions are pretty generous; we opted to order a variety of dishes and share (as all good Asian dinners go) and ended up having a ton of leftovers at the end of the evening. We got a combo set that included mackerel, sashimi, stir fried marinated beef, and then added on their spicy stir fried squid, naengmyeon, and hameul pajeon. The menu said the set could serve 2, but I think it could've easily served 3 or maybe 4 people. Their seafood was all solid -- the sashimi was super fresh (albeit not quite the dish I was expecting at a Korean restaurant), the mackerel had a nice char, and the stir-fried squid was quite flavorful and generally cooked well. The naengmyeon was a great refreshing choice for the summer evening, but it was way too sweet. I also didn't love their pajeon -- it was a tad too greasy for my taste, and had very little of the seafood filling. Even so, the service was super friendly and the restaurant had a great, laidback, home-cooking ambiance. Wow I've been here many times but I guess I've never reviewed. Pretty staple spot that is open ..a lot of hours. The squid was fire. I wasn't that crazy about the seafood bibimbap-- it wasn't very flavorful and I don't think they gave me extra sauce for it? The rice on the bottom was crispy though. Bossam is okay - I thought the pork was a bit dry. I love the extensive menu here and their banchan spread is awesome. Service is usually pretty quick. We also shared the seafood pancake which was huge and super crispy, we were a group of 3 and we had plenty of leftovers! Personally, I like lettuce better than using the really wet soggy cabbage(I'll be honest, I'm not sure what's more authentic) mainly because I like to use my hands to wrap the meat with other stuff. (also the miso soup that comes with it was really good for some reason LOL) We very much liked the ...shredded radish kimchi?? That comes with the Bossam, it went well with everything. First time back here in years. Photo is low quality since my friend was the real focus of this picture (and meal). She wanted to try bibimbap - Yechon was the first place to come to mind. So much nostalgia thinking back to all the good foods here. I got the galbi and she got the ground beef bibimbap. Every bite of the galbi tasted slightly funky and had me thinking "is this what this always tasted like?" I wondered if it was actually the bulgogi (I'm 98% sure it was) that I always got years back when I was a regular, but even still, galbi is supposed to be some of the best korean meat, and yet, all I could think of was how oddly tasting (and barely there) that it was? I was happy to find that the hours were extended again. I'd still be open to coming back in the later hours but unsure how high my expectations would be the next time around since I talked this place up and it just wasn't the same. read more

So, if you're going for the Galbi BBQ beef ribs it will be pricey, but they do give a lot of tasty panchan (side dishes). If you don't want to spend too much, go for the dolaot bibimbap (stone bowl) or galbi tang (beef soup). These are both reasonably priced, very Korean traditional and very good. Everyone was busy serving all the tables. I actually felt like I was in Korea, that's a good thing! Service was good. My daughter wanted soup and ordered kalbi tang. It had a good depth of flavor, but the meat was chewy. My octopus bokum was good. Good spicy, not tongue numbingly hot and good ratio of octopus to veggies. Portions were big and I thought the prices were very reasonable given the quality and quantity. While this is a Korean restaurant, they serve sushi. My daughter asked why they serve sushi (Japanese) at a Korean restaurant. My response it's a business decision and to meet the needs of the masses. My go to place in the Allendale area. It's not for everyone, and the key here is that Yechun consistently delivers quality older traditional Korean food. The name itself is 'old village'. Staff dressed in traditional outfits, all the side dishes are on point (for old Korean mouth like me), generous serving portions and old timey interiors. Place hasn't changed in a long time.
