galbi tang
Daniel Y.

I went to Tosokjip mainly for the bossam because my friend said it was the best thing ever. I've never really liked bossam, but I decided to give it a fair try anyway. It was still just okay to me, but that might honestly just be because I'm not a huge bossam person in general. The meat was tender and everything was prepared well, just not my personal favorite. What really stood out to me was the galbi tang. It was good. The broth was rich and comforting, and I literally drank every drop. The seafood pancake was ok, but I never liked seafood pancakes either. The ambience feels very Korean. They give you bottled water. Overall, it's a good spot and I definitely will go again, especially for the galbi tang.

Tosokjip is one of the most authentic Korean restaurants in Northern Virginia. The staff is always friendly and the food comes out relatively fast, which is always a plus! We ordered the budaejjigae (Army stew) and it was perfect for the cold weather! It's packed with sausages, rice cakes, ramen noodle, kimchi, and more. The serving size is massive, so my husband and I always end up taking some home. I really like that they use a little coal fire underneath, so the soup stays warm the whole time. We also ordered the bossam. The slices of meat were served warm and tender. It came with the traditional drained cabbage leaves and the spicy dried radish.

Appetizers - Banchan

Came here on a cold winter Friday looking for some comfort food and protein. We've been to the old To Sok Jip before it burned down and had great memories there; we were happy to give the new location a shot. There was a bit of a language barrier when I was asking questions to the wait staff, but totally understandable. It also took about 10min before our appetizers came out which was unusual - they're usually pretty prompt. Besides those two things, everything else was excellent. We didn't wait long for our two dishes: samgaetang - chicken ginseng soup and yukgaejang - spicy beef stew. The yukgaejang was really spicy, but was super delicious. The chicken ginseng soup truly hit the spot - if you order this, be sure to add in your chicken seasoning as a topper! Though neither my partner nor I were sick, we both agreed that both soups would be a lifesaver if we were congested because they were opening up our nasal passages! Bathroom is a bit dingy, but interior is pretty warm and somewhat welcoming. Solid 4 stars, will definitely come back for their highly recommended meal: bossam!

If you're looking for some more stick to your ribs Korean dishes, To Sok Jip is up there! They bring out a great selection of tasty banchans also. I got the Dolsot Bibim which was piping hot! Mine even came with some seaweed soup! I believe the more authentic foods are popular here with customers such as their fried Croaker. Service is excellent and attentive. Ambiance is casual but cozy for families and friends.

Everything was amazing here! My favorite was the combination of the tosok bibimbap and spicy stir fried pork. The panchan were also generous and tasty. I would definitely come back here

My local friend brought me here and honestly, this is one of the very few places that is able to make traditional and authentic home made Korean food the right way. I enjoyed the taste of the food and banchan. If you crave authentic Korean jipbap, this is probably the place to check out

no frills korean restaurant known for their bossam (pork). there is a wide selection of delicious banchan. the service was incredibly fast, albeit curt--mostly operating with minimal english. the seafood pancake was also phenomenal.

Banchan

One of the best authentic Korean restaurants in the area! They serve a good variety of Korean dishes without overwhelmingly big menu. Their Bossam (pork wrap) dish is always on point. Pajeon is crispy with lots of seafood. All the soups are also super flavorful and delicious. They also embody that quick&fast culture of Koreans. Their service is super fast (within 15 mins, we had all our food). The ambiance is more casual, without any separated seating, which reflects their more of a "family style" food. The banchan is also very good, but are slightly heavier on seasoning. This is our go to Korean spot in Annandale and hope it becomes yours too :)

I'm thinking that many people who come here know already what they want, because even before we cracked open our menus, the server was immediately at our table expecting us to place our order. When we told her we weren't ready yet, she left, but came back less than a minute later and then stood there waiting for us to place our order. So I ordered the Sullangtang, which is bone broth with brisket and noodles. JP ordered the Yukgaejang, a spicy red broth with veggies and flank steak. We also ordered the fried dumplings. I don't know if the fried dumplings were vegetable or pork, but they were very good, made even better with a delicious dipping sauce. As hoped, banchan was served with our meal, but was just cubes of daikon radish (kkakdugi) and kimchi. The kkakdugi and kimchi were fresh and tasty. Even if the Sullantang recipe is traditional, I was disappointed. The broth was thin and very bland. However, I was able to jazz it up and make it into a pretty good soup by adding spoonfuls of the Yukgaejang broth and the fried dumpling sauce, plus salt and pepper. The Yukgaejang, topped with crispy noodles, was the better of the two soups. It had a lively flavor and as billed on the menu, was indeed spicy. The menu is limited, almost exclusively vegetable and beef dishes, but there is a seafood pancake and whelk (mollusk) dish. No chicken or pork dishes. Overall, our experience was decent and we would certainly consider returning. Shin Chon has plenty of off-street parking.

We ordered a spread: gyoza with sweet and spicy sauce, kimchi pancakes, fried shrimp, soy garlic wings, takoyaki, LA galbi, and jjampong with noodles... plus way too many drinks. We arrived early and scored prime seats by the bar, which turned out to be perfect, especially once the night shifted into more of a club vibe with a DJ. The energy was great, and most of the food was surprisingly delicious -- everything hit except the jjampong. We were expecting udon noodles, but it came with thin, clear noodles instead, and the flavor was a bit off for us. That said, the staff handled everything perfectly, and it didn't take away from the rest of the experience. Between the food, drinks, and nightlife atmosphere, we had an awesome time and will definitely be back. I don't understand how someone can screw up Korean food in Korean town. Every restaurant in the area gets better and better. Competition is high. The price is on the high end. From my understanding, this place is owned by the former owner of Khan, which was a well respected establishment in the area. I've only hung out upstairs, but it's a calmer vibe than a lot of the other hotspots in Annandale. There's no DJ and it's not super crowded, but the music is good and it truly is a place to just drink and hang out with your friends. The food here is actually phenomenal. From skewers to shareables like the potato pancake to entrées like the spicy creamy pasta, I've been very satisfied with it all. But really, what tops the food is the service. We've had the pleasure of being served by some of the nicest people, Bruce the manager, Scott, Jack, who we now call Jack Jack, and Hayden. Need a place to drink? Chung Dam got you.

The rice cakes had a weird texture I didn't like. Meh. SEAFOOD PANCAKE - 18 Pretty soggy and not a lot of seafood (maybe one bite of seafood per piece). It tasted fine, but not worth it for the price. The food was just okay -- we can definitely find better seafood pancakes and rice cakes at other Korean restaurants nearby. Probably a great spot if you're drunk though.
