We recently checked out JMT Kitchen & Bar on a Saturday night after hearing great things from friends -- and we definitely came hungry. We ordered a spread: gyoza with sweet and spicy sauce, kimchi pancakes, fried shrimp, soy garlic wings, takoyaki, LA galbi, and jjampong with noodles... plus way too many drinks. We arrived early and scored prime seats by the bar, which turned out to be perfect, especially once the night shifted into more of a club vibe with a DJ. The energy was great, and most of the food was surprisingly delicious -- everything hit except the jjampong. We were expecting udon noodles, but it came with thin, clear noodles instead, and the flavor was a bit off for us. That said, the staff handled everything perfectly, and it didn't take away from the rest of the experience. Between the food, drinks, and nightlife atmosphere, we had an awesome time and will definitely be back. I really hate leaving negative reviews, but I think people should be aware before visiting. JMT has a clean environment and is usually a fun place to watch games. Unfortunately, I have not had a good service experience here. I visited a couple of times during the World Cup because of their advertised drink specials, and both visits ended with us being overcharged. When we questioned it, the staff gave what felt like the same rehearsed explanation each time. Before ordering, we specifically confirmed with our server that they were running the $5 rail drink special. By definition, a rail (or well) drink is made with the house liquor and a standard mixer. At JMT, however, you'll be charged extra for every little addition without anyone telling you beforehand. A splash of cranberry juice or tonic water resulted in additional charges that were never mentioned by either the server or the bartenders. On top of that, a 25% gratuity was automatically added despite our server being largely inattentive. Throughout the night, we repeatedly had to get up and ask for things ourselves, and not everyone at our table even received a cup for water. To make matters worse, both their menu and website clearly state that automatic gratuity applies to parties of 8 or more, yet our party of 6 was automatically charged 25%. When we brought these concerns to our server, he spoke with the manager, whose response was simply, "That's how we do things here." He explained that he wasn't familiar with the drinks because the bartenders determine the charges, and that it would be difficult to void and reprocess the bill. We were also told that they always add 25% gratuity for parties of 6 and that, in their view, a rail is simply a shot rather than a mixed well drink. Those explanations directly contradict both common industry terminology and the information advertised on their own menu and website. I understand that restaurants and bars get busy, and mistakes happen. What was disappointing was being told that they've been operating this way for a long time instead of acknowledging the inconsistencies or updating their advertised policies. That reflects poor management more than an isolated mistake. It doesn't feel good to invite friends somewhere only to have everyone end up paying more than expected because the advertised specials and gratuity policies don't match what is actually charged. I can't say how often this happens, but after experiencing it on multiple visits, I'd strongly recommend reviewing your bill carefully before paying. read more

This is a honest review. The goal is for the restaurant to improve. Please don't delete it again. Food wait time was extremely long ( more than 45 mins) even though the restaurant was practically empty. The food tasted like it wasn't prepared by a real chef, or more like it was made by someone who had never even tasted their own cooking. It explains why the restaurant was empty vs. full house when it first opened. Honestly, any Korean restaurant in the DMV area is better than this. I don't understand how someone can screw up Korean food in Korean town. Every restaurant in the area gets better and better. Competition is high. The price is on the high end. I don't mind paying even more but please deliver in terms of food quality. They are 100x worse than my last 5 visits a while back. I'm a foodie with over 5k dmv followers. Fun spot for Korean food. Friday and Saturday at 10pm, it turns into a club where a DJ plays music and people start dancing till closing. It gets pretty loud so wouldn't recommend if you want a more quieter spot for late night food. We ordered kimchi pancake, hotteok, and cocktails which hit our late cravings. They also have karaoke rooms. Parking is a bit difficult especially at night. Surrounding parking areas either are blocked off or have towing signs posted. read more

Came here to celebrate a friends birthday over the weekend and it was my first time. I wasn't aware of how popular this place is so right off the bat, I and a couple other cats struggled to find parking around 9:30 on Saturday night. If you have ever been to Bar Bao in Clarendon, that's kind of the vibe of this place so I can see why it gets packed so fast! Definitely plan ahead as I spent about 5-10 minutes waiting for a spot to open up. When you walk inside, you follow the path to the automatic doors and a friend I met up with and I were able to walk to our table. It did take a while for servers to come around but it was already a bit busy so I ended up going to the bar to order my food. I got my drink there and ordered the Makers Mark because of the mango in it and really enjoyed the drink! I give it a 4/5. I also ordered corn cheese and chicken dumplings -- I really liked the crunchiness of the dumplings since their pan fried (5/5) and I ended up sharing my corn cheese with a friend and really enjoyed that as well! I give it a 4/5. The place because a partial dance floor as it hits 11pm with a security guard checking ID's as people start to really flow in. It became super congested at the bar area and the DJ stand which is pretty standard of what a restaurant turned bar looks like. Music was not too much of my taste but others seemed to really enjoy it! They will nickel and dime you for every small thing and deliver their very worst for you. JMT Kitchen and Bar has been on my list for quite some time and I finally got the opportunity to go check it out. The menu looked promising and there seemed to be some good options. We decided to order food family style and got the spicy pork tacos, volcano omurice and braised spicy pork ribs with cheese. Out of the lineup the spicy pork tacos were my favorite. Although not spicy, the flavors worked well together. The volcano omurice tasted very sweet, not as savory or umami as I expected, based on trying this dish at many other restaurants. It was quite hard to eat. Finally, we were at least hoping that the spicy pork ribs would actually be spicy but nope, pretty sweet again. The flavor profiles for the last two dishes seemed very one dimensional. A bit disappointing as the ribs were quite pricy. We literally could not finish it. As for the drinks, I got the Yogurti Martini and my friend got the Marks Maker. My drink was just ok, and a bit too sweet for my liking but my friends was pretty good. Overall the restaurant seems nice and large, pretty good for large gatherings. The service was also pretty decent. But unfortunately the food was pretty disappointing. I found JMT's tiktok and thought it was a vibe and a casual bar scene, but was surprised that they had tables. It's a huge spot, that used to be a cafe and back in the day was a Chinese grocery store. For how large the space is, I don't think they have many customers yet.. The parking lot doesn't hold too many cars, that with it sharing with the ramen spot and A&J. Shoutout to Chad, our bartender who made us the prettiest new soju drinks!! For the vibes and partying this is probably top in NOVA For food and service it was underwhelming. Food is sort of Korean and bar food fusion. The quantity is plenty, but the tteokbokki is not spicy and the loaded fries had good meat portions but was just ok flavor wise. The sojus and beers came out reasonably quickly but water refills never really came. Maybe on purpose as well, but bad for the older unc folks. Anyway overall if you wanna see the NOVA crowd I can't think of a better place and the energy was good all night. read more

JMT was our second choice for pocha options in Annandale since the one we initially wanted to go to was closed for a private event. The interior is dark with some neon wall decor, more of a modern take on pochas with cafeteria-style tables and seating. BRAISED SPICY PORK RIBS W/ CHEESE - 34.95 It came on a cast iron skillet over a wooden fire grill to keep it warm and toasty. There might have been 8-10 pork ribs in each order. The ribs themselves were on the leaner side and lacked the tender juiciness we were expecting. It was also pretty dry if you don't smother it in sauce (which was pretty runny, so it doesn't stick easily to the pork). We could definitely use more cheese, too. The potato cubes were a nice topping, which soaked up more of the slightly sweet and spicy sauce. We thought it was OK. Probably not worth it for the price. CORN CHEESE - 11.95 The corn cheese was our second favorite dish out of the five we ordered, which is a bit sad. You really can't mess up corn cheese. But we enjoyed the seasoning on the corn cheese and its perfect cheese-mayo ratio. The cheese pull was solid. It was cooked on a skillet pate, which made a difference. PORK KIMCHI TOFU - 24.95 The presentation looked pretty, so we were excited to eat it. The firm tofu on its own was bland and flavorless without any seasoning or marinade. The pork kimchi was flavorful, but dry. This was a very healthy tasting dish, and not bad by any means. But if I wanted something like this, I would just make it at home. At a pocha, I'm hoping to eat something greasier. ROSÉ DDUKBOKKI - 16.95 The rosé ddukbokki had a good amount of rice cakes, napa cabbage, fish cakes, a single hard-boiled egg, and generously topped with cheese. This has got to be the best rice cake I've ever had. It was perfectly chewy and soft, with a nice bounce every bite. It also soaked up the sauce nicely, which was creamy, sweet, and slightly spicy. The fish cakes and napa cabbage were definitely more of a supporting topping, but still delicious nonetheless. If you order food at JMT, you have to get the rosé ddukbokki. JMT WINGS (10 PCS) - 20.95 We got them with two sauces: sweet & spicy and soy garlic. Most of us preferred the soy garlic over sweet & spicy. Overall, these wings were nothing to write home about, and I'd rather order some from bb.q instead. The five of us were honestly here for pocha food and not so much for the drinks. Maybe the drinks are better, but we were pretty disappointed with the overall quality of food at JMT. First time coming here on a Friday around 7pm- and the parking lot was full but JMT was empty. It took us a while to track someone down to order. The Sweet & Spicy Shrimp was alright- crispy and tangy. The Don KatSu was actually kind of good. I liked it- maybe slightly dry but I kept going back to eat it. I stopped by with some friends to catch the Commanders game, and our server was super nice--making sure we got a table with a perfect view of the TV. The vibe here is awesome--really lively--and they even have a DJ that starts playing some great hits later in the evening. We ordered the Pork Kimchi Tofu, Yaki Udon, Sweet & Spicy Wings, and Corn Cheese. The Pork Kimchi Tofu was amazing, with flavorful pork, tangy kimchi that balanced everything out, and cool tofu that toned down the spice. The Yaki Udon was packed with flavor, and the wings? Crispy, juicy, and easily some of the best I've had. But the real standout for me was the Corn Cheese--it had this subtle sweetness, and the cheese pull was insane. Plus, the portion was just right! I really want to give this place 4 stars because the donkatsu was delicious, but there were a few things that bothered me here. 1. My food took forever... My friend and I ordered food and mine was taking long. It doesn't make sense because both of our entrees should have came at the same time. Instead, my friend actually waited for my food come very late. After waiting 20 minutes, I asked the server and they said that my food would take long because they're busy. However, during the time I was waiting, I see many people's orders going out to tables. My food came 10 minutes later, after confronting the server. As a server, they should notify their customers if there will be a long wait, or offer some compensation for making me wait over 30 minutes. Entrees should come out at the same time for the whole party too. 2. Ordered to go later that evening, just to have food missing... Although my experience wasn't the best, the donkatsu was very delicious. So I came back later that evening to order the same donkatsu for my partner. When we opened the food, there was no rice! How do you forget the rice for donkatsu, especially as an asian restaurant! The cream soup was also missing! I would've called to complain, but I did not want to drive all the way back 20 minutes for rice and soup. It doesn't help that they also skimped on the sauce for the chicken. Lemme start off by saying the food is great here! We got seated promptly and someone greeted us right away to take our drink orders. We ordered the red snapper, wings, dukkboki and yaki udon with crab. The red snapper was great, fried crispy and had a not so sweet, tangy sauce on the plate. We got the soy garlic and sweet and spicy wings, both of which were fried to perfection and covered in the delicious sauces. Not one bite was soggy, the chicken was juicy and the sauces amazing. I'm not the biggest fan of rice cakes, but the dukkboki was awesome. I don't remember which one we got but it was addicting. The yaki udon with crab was delicious, with plentiful crab and ground pork. Noodles had a nice chewy texture and carried the sauce and meat well. I've been here a few times: one for dinner as a group of 4 and the food is good for sharing, our server was chill and nice, and they had some happy hour deals for food and drinks. The place was not too crowded that first time when we ate around 7/8pm. The other time I've been was late night (around 11pm and later) during halloween weekend for a friend's birthday. This JMT was definitely poppin'. I'd heard from a few people it had a good bar scene, and it was confirmed that night. The music was good, the drinks were decently priced, and the bartenders were fast. They have a LOT of TV screens throughout the whole place, so there's something for everyone. This place recently opened up in Annandale and it seems like it'd be a great contender for a place to hang out with friends. I used to remember that this spot used to be a supermarket but that was many years ago. It's nice to see more newer places opening up, especially in this building. I didn't go here for the food, but at least I can vouch for the alcohol. A big spacious bar with many spirits and soju on hand so you know that the crowd loves that. They have your general beer on tap, no draft but your standard beer like budweiser, blue moon, stella, ect. I generally go for Soju and honestly it's probably what I get most of the time. I want to come back here to try out the food. I think for now, check it out if you are going with a group. It's very big and great for drinks! read more

Multiple businesses have had history at this location but none of them stayed too long. There's a full bar at the back so if you want to just chill around there, I've seen people do it. My group reserved a table and had some food and a few drinks. Service was great as they checked up on us regularly. The food portions are smaller than usual but expected these days. I had the soy garlic wings, they were okay compared to others in the area. Not my favorite but not trash either. My group split a couple sojus and that's about it on drinking. I've been here a few times. I love the food but the service and wait times are not always the best. My second to last visit, I had to wait 30 mins for some fries to come out. I wasn't that upset because we got compensated with a free drink. Tonight's visit, we waited 45 mins for corn cheese. We didn't get any kind of acknowledgement, apology, or compensation. The rest of our food (literally a sandwich and a flatbread) took an entire hour... I don't know if I can keep justifying coming here because the wait times really do suck. read more

For example, the Blueberry Smash was pictured with fresh blueberries and mint, but mine came with just a slice of lime. The "Hennything Is Possible" drink was shown in a tall, slim glass but was served in a short glass instead. We ordered the Trio Boneless Chicken, and some of the pieces were overcooked and hard. There wasn't much radish included either, which was a letdown. We also tried the Kimchi Pork Tofu, but the kimchi and pork lacked flavor, and we didn't enjoy it at all. What an amazing hole in the wall. I came with two friends who wanted to try this spot as it is fairly new and it did not disappoint! The service is amazing and they're very nice and attentive. The only thing I will say is that the music is quite loud, but it is supposed to give off a late night bar vibe so that's understandable. We ordered four different plates and shared. We got the loaded fries, Takoyaki, spicy ribs with cheese (with corn cheese courtesy of the house!) and bussam (boiled pork belly). Everything was delicious!! My favourite was definitely the bussam because it was so flavourful and soft. The only complaint I would have is that the ribs were not spicy at all. They have so many other things on their menu as well like tacos and dumplings. The portions are big too, we were each able to take a good amount of leftovers home. Came here for drinks with some friends, the vibe is definitely great but when we ordered our drinks from the bar my boyfriend gave his credit card to the bartender to close out right away- however, when the bartender came back she only brought us our drinks and was waiting for us to give a card for payment. We let her know we had already given her a credit card when we gave her the order initially, she checked her pockets and her work station but couldn't find my boyfriend's credit card and said she "lost it". We understand that mistakes happen, but we were confused as to how you could be so careless and lose a customer's credit card that fast. I came here on a Saturday night with some friends (we are mostly black), we entered the establishment and went back to the front to ask to be seated. After waiting for a couple of minutes (there was no host present) we ask a staff member if she worked there so she could assist us in finding a table to which she rudely replied "maybe.". We asked her if she could get the host so we could be seated and she said she'll be here soon and walked off. Once seated, we did have a friendly waiter who was patient. A friend and I went to the bar and she ordered first, please note: she paid with Apple Pay and was charged the price listed on the menu. I looked at the menu and we flagged a bartender down. She was not the warmest, while I did take a moment to clarify with my friend what I wanted, and granted it was busy, she rolled her eyes and walked away. I looked over at her helping other (Asian) guests, (I myself am half-Asian) and she was all my smiles and giggles with them. We flagged down another bartender who by comparison to the other bartender, was more friendly but not by much. I ordered my drink and proceeded to try to pay with Apple Pay and saw the total was more than what my friend had paid by almost $5 and our drink price was the same. When I asked him to clarify the price difference he replied "huh" rudely and made a face at me. It turns out there is an automatic 18% gratuity for all charges that are on Apple Pay but apparently they can select who pays the 18%. The entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth, which is a shame considering I love supporting Asian and minority owned businesses but apparently the quality of the service you receive is dependent on how you look. read more

This place is hidden inside a non- descripe building with a few other restaurants. It's a large open space with a bar- like atmosphere. They play a great variety of kpop that is augmented by girl group kpop videos playing on the walls. The menu is diverse with bothe large and small plates. I opted for a fusion small plate of bulgogi filled soft tacos and a soju cocktail. Both were very tasty. I was the only customer at the time, but even so it noisy between the music and some roaring noise (likely hvac?). read more

First time here and was super excited to try this place after reading the rave reviews. So here goes: Service was pretty good and very friendly. Our waiter didn't know they serve wine so I had to show him on the scanned menu. Other than that he gave us good recommendations and answered our questions about the menu. They do need to add some non alcoholic beer to their menu . Food was decent. Hubby and I loved the bulgogi tacos. I wish I ordered more of those! We also tried the pork ribs . The pork ribs were ok 3/5. Good amount of meat on them and a good sharing portions but it wasn't spicy and I don't think it needed the meaty cheese on it. The cheese didn't seem to go with it. It was a nice presentation though with the hot burner underneath. The sauce was on the sweeter side too. The atmosphere was beautiful. They have a nice size dining area and bar area with lots of big screen TV's showing a good combo of K Pop & sports and cartoons. JMT is a solid new addition to the Annandale night scene. Previously this was a dark Kaoroke spot. Now the space has been modernized, it feels spacious and nice. When I went it had a lot of ppl and had a lively atmosphere. Lots of TVs around and drinking options. A good place to hang out with some friends. It also helps the service folks are friendly and want its patrons to have a good time too, it's definitely a fun atmosphere. I didn't try too much of the food, maybe it's good but they do have some food options. I hope they do well bc Annandale is trying to become a weekend hang out spot and if it works out JMT will be one of the reasons. read more

Personally my new favorite spot, the food was so good, especially the pork ribs. Space wise, I definitely felt like it was so open and may not be for someone who likes a less exposed and open space restaurant. read more
