Trying to find a good quality KBBQ spot like what we're used to in California, and found this to be a pretty decent spot. Customer service was great and they were all very attentive, which is always a plus. Ordered the brisket- meat quality was good. (Meat to fat ratio, perfect.) The galbi short rib was just okay - I think a little too sweet for my taste buds, and the bulgogi had a good marinade to it, but wished it wasn't so chopped up. I really liked this reopening of kogiya. The inside was industrial and kinda cute. The AYCE option A wasn't too bad, $33 pp. prices definitely went up but the meet quality was pretty good. You can do a la carte or ayce option. For AYCE, there are set A and B. The beef options in set A are all thinly sliced, which I'm not a fan. In set B, you get thicker cut beef, LA Galbi (1 per person), and daechang (beef old intestine). However, I don't like the way they cut (split it in half vertically) daechang because it makes it a lot chewier than normal. You also might want to double check that the kitchen has all options in set B available because they ran out of LA Galbi when we were there. read more

Something they do that I really enjoy is the small cup of iced coffee at the end of the meal. It's a satisfying palette cleanser. Idk what happened with them but they were peak in 2018. And has gone downhill since 2022. This place used to be pack and long waits. Now you just can walk in with no lines. The meat wasn't that fatty compared to other places, but you get tired of the meats fast, especially the marinated ones. For A you pay $33, and for B you pay for $38. You can only choose 3 dishes at a time for your whole party. The a la carte options seem more worth it--especially the steak and prime rib. However, I would not come back. I enjoy Kogiya. The space is large, and the food is generally consistent. However, there have been times when the fatty brisket has been either leaner or fattier depending on the day. My favorite dishes are probably the spicy bulgogi and the kkot sal (if I want to splurge and get a fancier steak). They have a lot of servers running around, but on busy days you may need to keep an eye on the grill and cook the meat yourself to prevent it from burning since the staff can be spread a bit thin. Overall it is a solid Korean BBQ spot. It is exponentially better than Honey Pig in my opinion, but it does not quite match the quality and consistency of Meokja Meokja. That said, Kogiya is better for larger parties and late-night dining. read more

For the amount of ratings this KBBQ place has, I ended up disappointed with our experience. Ambiance gives off authentic Korean BBQ restaurant vibes; it's a more casual setting with nothing fancy and not a lot of decor. Bathroom was horrendous... there was no toilet paper & I had to ask our server for some & it looked like the staff didn't clean the bathroom often. Now as far as food & service. You have the option for your server to cook for you or to self-cook. We always choose to cook on our own, but our server was still attentive to clearing out plates, changing grills, and giving more meat. The KBBQ meat itself though... seemed very low quality. Something as simple as the brisket was tough... and didn't even uncurl the way it normally does when you start frying it. It just lay there... in its frozen curled form. I don't know, but we paid extra ($38/adult) for all the extra meat, but I noticed they don't even offer bulgogi & kalbi in their most expensive option. We don't normally eat that when we go to KBBQ anyway but it's just food for thought-- other places offer more selections of meat/marinated meat for the same price. I think the main difference with the $38 price is the beef belly and seafood. It was not worth it. I'm sure at one point this restaurant was lower cost & high quality, but definitely not when we were there! I don't think I'll be eating here again when there's plenty of other AYCE KBBQ options in the area! read more

The soybean soup and egg souffele were the unexpected stars of the show. We opted for brisket, soy garlic brisket and soy garlic pork. About a 1-1.5: We had come here as a group for an early dinner, and our table opted for the A option for the AYCE - We stuck with the chadol, the marinated chadol, the miso-marinated pork belly, and the veggies. We had to constantly remind the staff to cook the meats at the requested and appropriate temperature - some of the meats were undercooked, while others were left on the grill too long. The meats, especially the chadol, had an off-putting taste to them - kind of like a 'gas'-type of an odor and taste, due to the grill - not sure if the gas that was being used was not calibrated properly, but the taste permeated through the meats, making it super unenjoyable and almost inedible. In terms of the soup and the steamed egg, I wished the restaurant was more mindful in terms of the number of party in the group and actually provide the correct servings of these. In addition, there were no additional bowls or soup spoons to use. Honestly, it seemed as if we filled up our bellies more with the side dishes, rather than the meats, if we were able to get them. Trying to flag our servers down and getting refills on the banchans, rice, water, and even silverware was such a pain. Note that there is a time limit to your dining experience, where a great percentage of this time is waiting around for service. The place does accept reservations. However I wish the portions were a little smaller, there was a lot of meat for just the two of us and I wanted to try more different kinds. Service was fast and efficient. I also liked the chair design to keep items away from the smoky smell. We came at 5pm on a Friday as a walk in and were seated immediately, but around 6pm the place was packed. I expected service to be slow and inconsistent due to it being a timed experience - but the servers were so prompt and so helpful to the 6 super white guys who obviously didn't know what they were doing. Almost every time I visit the DMV, this place is a must stop by. You can chose to grill your own meat or have one of the servers cook your food. We almost always go with having someone cook our food that way we can focus on eating. Very important especially when you're doing AYCE. The all you can eat is a great price point $33-$38 dollars depending on option A or B. AYCE is timed but pick right and you'll be stuffed!! The banchan here is delicious. And always plentiful. My only gripe is I wish that when you're with a big crowd, that they would give you a bigger serving so you don't have to ask for refills as often. The meat is always fresh and delicious. The marinated meats are some of the best I've had at any Kbbq place. The place can get very busy so just know depending on the time of day you may have a wait.
