This place has grown to be our GO TO Korean BBQ joint. It's just simply amazing! First of all ... ALL YOU CAN EAT! That temptation is hard enough alone. But, when you pair it with great meat options, you have a winner! My favorites (in no particular order) are the Galbi, Beef Brisket, Thin-Sliced Pork Belly, and Marinated Pork Steak. All are fantastic! And the service is great as well. All the different servers we have experienced are always hovering to make sure our meats are cooking properly, our sauces are filled, and that we are all well hydrated ;) The atmosphere is also fun and upbeat. We had a enjoyable experience here. One thing that stood out was that the staff actually helped grill the meat for us. We are used to that in Atlanta but this is the first place in the area where we've experienced that. It does make the meal much easier and more relaxing. Friendly and very tasty all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue. The kimchi and the beans were both nice apps, as was the JapChae. The standout meat was the honey butter squid, cooked to perfection. The spicy pork and the Hawaiian bulgogi were both really good. The chicken had an odd taste, so I'd skip that one, and the pork jowl was a crap cut of meat. Wanted to check this place out due to the great menu and $35 all you can eat. Service was attentive and waiter tried his best to handle multiple tables. There were a few times that he missed a few things but completely understand as he was managing quite a few tables. I enjoyed the efficiency of the fans. There were times when the grill got very smoky and the fans sucked all the smoke right out. All the meats were great! Even the intestines. The sides could improve a bit. Most things were good but corn cheese wasn't really cheesy vs it just being in cream. The Hawaiian bulgogi wasn't very good and it kind of just fell apart. Meat Project continues to be consistently good at the new location here located in Fairfax. Already a trek to visit the original location, this cuts the travel time by half and already leaves me thrilled that more of my friends are willing to meet me here for Korean BBQ. As usual, it's like any other KBBQ place. The whole table has to decide if they want the AYCE option; not ifs or buts about ordering for yourself here. Afterwards, you pick your two meats of choice and sides. If you are familiar with beef brisket, bulgogi, pork belly, steak, chicken, shrimp, ect.. then you are in familiar territory. You can opt to cook it yourself but the server does like to come by to adjust the heat so the grease doesn't flare up, or they just like to help make sure your meat is cooked well. KBBQ places tend to be a place where it's loud, with 2000's club music playing, and just the sounds of meat sizzling away. You will definitely come home smelling like meat, and probably will have the meat sweats afterwards too. My friend recommended we check out this place for an early after work dinner. It was a great spot! It's in a great location and a good space overall. We were able to get seated really quickly and they got the food rolling super quickly. There was a ton of great meat options and they brought them out 2 at a time. We ordered a bunch of different options, I think the short rib was the fave. Also highly recommend the sides, the corn cheese was amazing (we ordered two). Again, the waiter was super attentive and helpful. However, the food was bland and sweet. I could not tell the differences between the sauces except that that were different colors. Let me tell you about the one place I will never go back to...and honestly, it had nothing to do with the food. The food itself? Fresh, great quality, no complaints there. But the customer service... specifically from the manager... was unbelievable in the worst way. Picture this: I'm sitting at the table, sun beaming directly into my eyes. I politely ask the manager if he can lower a shade. Instead of any attempt at empathy, he looks at me and says, "Your friends chose that seat. It's their fault the sun is in your eyes. We don't have anything to accommodate you." Now imagine if he had simply said, "I'm so sorry, would you like to move? Let me know where and I can help," or even, "We didn't realize we needed a shade here, thank you for letting us know." That's bare-minimum hospitality. But nope. Then comes round two. He asked to have our grill tray changed, and there were about seven pieces of spicy meat left, too spicy for some of us. The manager walks over, sees it, and gives us a look. You know the look. Then he hits us with, "Aren't you going to take it?" I explained why we weren't eating it, but honestly... why did I even need to explain? Just take the seven pieces, change the tray, and go. It's all-you-can-eat--if they wanted to charge us for it, fine, but the attitude was insane. When I asked if there was a problem, he said no, but then tried to guilt-trip us by saying "People usually take it to still eat." Sir... no one is forcing spicy meat down their throat to make you feel better. And after that? He completely avoided our table. Didn't check in, didn't speak, nothing. The customer comes first, except apparently here, where the manager's emotions take priority. Now let me be clear: the server with the glasses from Guatemala was AMAZING. He was kind, attentive, and honestly the only reason we didn't walk out mid-meal. He deserves credit because he was everything the manager wasn't. One last thing: the sauces. They're all extremely sweet, and adding a small sauce bar or variety station would elevate the experience so much. Bottom line: the food isn't the problem--it's the management. We've been back so many times since then usually with my sister in law and another friend. I do think the all you can eat for $35 is worth especially with a big group. The meats here are nice cuts, excellent quality, and marinated well. Not my most favorite banchans here, but they have the essentials. I do wish the pickled radish was thinner. The kimchi is perfectly sweetened! I've enjoyed the steamed egg, corn cheese (more creamy than others), spicy lettuce salad, and green onion salad. The japchae noodles were a bit bland, but I would give it another try. Really loved the 6 sauces here. Favorites are the Jalapeño Cream Sauce and Galbi Sauce. They don't give a lot at first, but you can always ask for more (good for no waste). We ordered sides and the salad was so small that I wouldn't even consider it a personal portion. When we asked for another one since we were more than 1 person, she told us that she couldn't bring another one until we were done with that one first. From a business perspective - letting your customers get full from side dishes saves you from getting them full of your meats. Same with the rice, why is it not filled to the brim of the plate? I did not feel good having to constantly ask for more rice. The only good thing about this visit was the food, the cheesy corn was delicious! We ordered it 3x. We asked for sauces and it took a while to get them. Our server never asked if we wanted drinks just brought water. I'm a big fan of Meat Project's $35 PP AYCE KBBQ THAT INCLUDES DELICIOUSLY & AUTHENTICALLY MARINATED KALBI (the most premium meat cut you won't find on any AYCE menu anywhere else, no lie, prove me wrong...) . It's for that reason that Meat Project has now summarily replaced Honey Pig which was our previous reigning champ and KBBQ go-to. I'm sorry Honey Pig - we have found a new love. What I like about Meat Project is - pretty much the only thing on the menu is their $35 PP AYCE. That's it. Very focused, simple, no other menu item distractions, easy peasy, no muss no fuss. Everyone in your party must order AYCE, 90 minute time limit and note that parties of 5+ (kids count) get an auto 20% gratuity added to the bill. The icing on the cake (here) with having a 1-item menu is that it INCLUDES KALBI. You won't find that anywhere else - I've searched. All other KBBQ AYCE places offer kalbi for an additional charge or to order separately a la carte (and it ain't cheap, that's for sure!). To boot, there are NO RESTRICTIONS ON HOW MANY ROUNDS OF KALBI YOU CAN ASK FOR - totally AYCE. And the kalbi is actually really tasty. Well seasoned and marinated, authentic Korean flavors, mouth watering tender cuts. Party of 3, we arrived relatively early on a Friday at around 6PM to beat the weekend rush since it's first come first served seating and I am not into table-waiting #primadonna. They don't take reservations. SCORE. We had no problem getting a table at that time. This Fairfax location seems relatively new - it's in a small mixed use area that has a bunch of modern apts above and surrounding the restaurant. Think like a single-street Mosaic lol. It's tucked away in the Merrifield area, near Mosaic actually. Parking is easy - just find your way to one of the FREE parking garages right there in the development. You'll walk through a really quaint park / open space common area (I posted a pic of it) to get to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is super nice - the inside interior is modern, clean, open, and inviting. The vibe and ambiance is conducive to hanging out and enjoying an awesome KBBQ meal - really really impressive and the ambiance just adds to the tons of positives about this Fairfax location. Couple other things we liked about our AYCE meal here: * This place helps you grill your meats - LOVE not having to do it ourselves. * We never had to ask for them to change out our grill pan - they did that almost with every new round of meat they brought out. * The portion sizes of meat brought out each round was plentiful. Not too much that it would overwhelm the grill pan but not a tiny portion where each person would only get a nibble. * No hesitation with them happily bringing out round after round after round of meats to grill...and all in a timely manner. They never made us feel rushed and allowed us to enjoy our meal. * Unlimited rice, soups (jjigaes), corn cheese, banchan and sides - they all come with the $35 pp AYCE. * LOVE that you can get a pitcher of draft beer - $24 - I'd say these days, that's a good deal! * Don't forget to ask them for the sesame oil + kosher salt dipping sauce. If you want to eat and eat and then eat some more, especially if you hit the gym really hard and need to put humpdy dumpdy back together with alllll the protein, this is the place! If you haven't been to a Korean BBQ before, it's a cool interactive concept where you cook the meat right in the middle of your table (don't worry the servers will help). They serve very high quality ribeye and brisket and short rib (galbi), as well as a variety of other classics like bulgogi with a few different versions like Hawaiian style; they even have pork belly with different flavors like garlic or red wine. They have seafood too which was okay but I felt it could've been seasoned better. For the kicks, I ordered both kinds of intestine which got mixed reviews but I particularly enjoyed the small intestine. For sides, don't sleep on the cheesy corn and the green onion salad. The pickled cucumbers were also nice. And you will be completely stuffed by the end but it's worth putting an ice cream bar or two in your reserve tank as you leave. It rounded the meal off perfectly! Only thing that was questionable was them insisting on charging our three year old niece - who weighs 26 pounds and barely eats anything - just for the fact that she was exactly at the 3 ft height limit while wearing thick platform shoes. The side dishes were pretty small so we had to ask for seconds and thirds but they came fairly quickly. Our server changed out the grill each time. He cooked/served for 3 other tables and the service was attentive. Having someone cook the meat is a nice convenience since some places don't do this. I enjoyed the brisket and galbi the most and thought the meat quality overall was above average for this price point. The galbi had the rib bones removed prior to cooking. They had a nice selection of sides too and 4 different dipping sauces to use on the plate. The waiter had to sit through me talking to chat and interact with me when he was cooking which can be demanding. He definitely handled it well and I view that as good service since I'm an obnoxious customer. The food tasted good but I don't know anyone who can eat $35 worth of meat. Price was excessive, menu was short with not much other that meat and a few dips, and some tiny sides to go with the meat. There are no appetizers on the menu. The waiter was rude and mainly inattentive; he seemed annoyed when we would ask for things like more dip. I told him we could handle the cooking, but he just ignored me and kept on cooking. I'm pretty easy to please so this was an unusual experience for me. I don't believe he smiled once. I did see other wait staff with partial smiles so maybe it was just our guy having a bad day. My child never used a high chair cause she doesnt like to be restrained. The fact theres nothing written down about their policies either made me feel like it was just made up. Came here with some friends and it was a great time. This place was different from other KBBQ places I've been to, and is my new favorite one! There was a nice selection of meats, with some options you don't see in other places that are really tasty (intestine, pork jowl). While there isn't a sauce bar, the servers are incredibly attentive and will constantly fill up any and all sauces you need, as well as sides and meats. Every sauce is really good, and there wasn't ever a time where I ran out of anything. Our server immediately switched our grill out as well when ours had too much food burnt onto it, and they're very knowledgeable and will gladly help out if you need it. Four of us came on a weekend night as we decided to try their new location. All you can eat is $30/per person which is reasonable compared to other locations. The meat quality was decent, and we got different kinds of meat: beef brisket, bulgogi, pork jowl, grilled shrimp, makchang, daechang, pork belly, etc. I do like the variety for the price. I like their green onion salad, and soybean soup. The steamed egg portion is small, and their corn cheese was mainly cheese/mayo. If you want garlic, jalapeno, ssamjang, and lettuce, you need to ask. However, they only serve 4 pieces of lettuce at a time, so we kept asking for more refills. Service was fine at the beginning but then it got really slow halfway through, and we were waiting for meats for awhile. Unlike the Centreville location, they do not offer Melona/dessert at the end.
