The restaurant/lady stopped accepting orders at 7:13pm. We were a group of 4 trying to give you a chance to make money. Knowing the restaurants closes at 8pm so the kitchen should close at 7:30pm. Suny is near the back and offers a WIDE variety of sushi options. I ordered the triple connection roll, Philadelphia roll, and spicy tuna. They were all good, but nothing special. The sushi here is fine. It's definitely affordable and doesn't taste bad at all. It's not giving "high-quality, just caught" but it's definitely at least three steps up from supermarket sushi. And the price is honestly right. That said, the Gyoza here is so good. Don't be deterred by the price. The Geza are full and relatively big compared to some other places. The service is whatever. It's a pretty quick spot, I've never waited longer than five minutes for my food. Because of that, nobody's really going out of their way to serve you with a smile on their face. However, because the food is good, it's not that deep. Overall, it's a casual vibe. This is a stand in their little food court/food hall area. I'm sorry, but Suny Sushi is just not good. I'm surprised with their high ratings and just how many people are such fans of this place! Located in K Market's food court, their menu is quite extensive, offering various appetizers (gyoza, edamame, yakitori, fried peppers, etc.), tempura, udon, teriyaki, bento boxes, donburis, sashimi, maki, rolls, and temaki. I was craving for maki rolls, so I decided to give Suny another try. I ordered a Spicy Tuna and a Salmon Avocado maki - the Spicy Tuna was minced and there was hardly any 'spiciness' to it; the salmon had a fishy odor/taste, meaning it wasn't fresh; and, the avocado wasn't even ripened, but they still used this in the roll. In addition, the rice was extremely mushy - improperly made. Service was friendly and sweet, but the items that were served was pretty appalling. Our beloved Suny Sushi is no more. I think there is now a new owner, possibly new chefs as well because the sushi is no longer as good. Everything is different down to the ginger. The food quality has dropped and is not as it used to be when the previous owner was here. How unfortunate for us because the OG Suny Sushi was our favorite sushi place because of the quality of their sushi. I'm hugely disappointed. read more

Great sushi place tucked in a food court in a grocery store!!! I normally get the sushi bento which includes 6 nigiri, 6 sushi pieces, tempura, rice, miso soup, and salad. It comes with alot of food and i normally cant finish it! I love how with this bento box you get an assortment of yummy food! My favorite nigiri piece is definitely the salmon bc its so buttery and fatty. My boyfriend and I also shared the seared salmon appetizer which was delicious as well. read more

I have to admit, when my friends first told me that I *had* to go to K Market for sushi here, I was slightly hesitant to see what it was about, but then we ended up coming, and I was super impressed. We've come so many times since my initial visit but took a bit of a break, so this is my review on my return to Suny. Friends & I got one of the platters. As we waited, the kind restaurant (owner? manager?) came out to give us a serving of tempura while we waited, and tended to us during our meal. We do believe the prices may have gone up a bit in the past few months, but the quality of the food doesn't make you feel bad about it, and it's a lot better than the "mall food court" I was skeptical it might taste like before I first tried it. Realize you're not at a restaurant but you can't go wrong. These workers are hard workers. The lady told me to spread the word the restaurant would be open on Thanksgiving. Didn't get to go, but they're always really kind and treat loyal customers well. If you're on the strip and especially if the Block is too hectic for your liking/mood, definitely give this place a try. It's worth! read more

K Market definitely has some amazing options when it comes to cafeteria food courts and SUNY Sushi is definitely one of them. Initially, I thought that cafeteria sushi would be "sketch", but after hearing multiple people rave about the sushi here, I knew I had to give it a try. My friend and I weren't too hungry so we didn't order a lot. However, in the future, I definitely have my eye on the SUSHI DELUXE (12 pieces of sushi + spicy tuna roll) or share the SUSHI & SASHIMI COMBO (12 pieces of sashimi + 7 pieces of sushi + spicy tuna roll) with another person. Both are reasonably priced! SALMON TRADITIONAL ROLL - 6 I really like how they put a small piece of salmon on top of the sushi. They give you a good amount of salmon for a roll and definitely worth the price in my opinion. The salmon was fresh and fatty. Even though this is the most "basic" sushi option, I'd recommend giving this a try. Next time I'm back, I'm definitely getting it again. YELLOWTAIL TRADITIONAL ROLL - 7 Likewise, I like that they have a small piece of yellowtail on top of the sushi. However, I thought there was way too much scallions wrapped inside the sushi which took a lot of the attention away from the fish itself. It was still enjoyable, but I had to pick out some of the scallions since it was too much for me. Otherwise, this was quite tasty. SALMON SASHIMI (2 PCS.) - 4 The sashimi was pretty small and the salmon wasn't extremely fatty and didn't wow me. While it was a nice treat, I probably wouldn't get this again. GYOZA (6 PCS.) - 6.50 This was perfectly seared and crispy. Tastes great with good amount of pork and vegetables, but nothing out of the ordinary. It's hard to mess up gyoza (right?), so as long as it's good, then that's all there is to it. I'd recommend this if you love gyoza! read more

Okay the fact that I come here for all my sushi cravings every other week and think about SUNY sushi when I am not eating sushi... Each experience gets better and better I swear! I usually get the sushi regular and that is just perfect itself! But I recently tried the seared salmon appetizer and it was so good! I didnt expect them to sear it right at your table! The guacamole compliments the salmon perfect and it melts in your mouth! All that show and taste at a supermarket???? Thats crazy and unbelievable incredible! I also like getting their sushi bento as its such a bang for your buck! I love getting a variety of things to nibble on and the shrimp tempuras are the best I've had in the area! Located in K Market's food court, this place is an incredible steal. Huge portions, reasonable price really good fish, delicious sushi, and perfectly fried tempura. Go for the sashimi bento - you get so much food for about 22 bucks. If you bought this at a regular old restaurant, you'd be paying double. But for $22 you get all the food as shown in the photo. I was blown away with the quality. I plan on going back ASAP to try their different bento boxes but it's really hard to beat that sashimi bento. Go, go right now! read more

Visited Suny Sushi with my cousin after hearing about Suny's new place and getting lots of recommendations from other MD folks. As soon as you walk into K-Market, head to the left and they are all the way in the back. It may look unassuming inside a supermarket, but the food does not disappoint. My small cousin and I aren't huge eaters and we could barely finish the Sushi combo for 2 (24 pcs and 2 rolls). I am no sushi expert but everything we had was delicious. Not much more to say. After eating their sushi I realized that I wasn't given the correct order (Futo Maki) which is supposed to have spinach, asparagus, and yamagobo (pickled burdock) of which none of the rolls had ANY! (See pics) That's disappointing considering the veggies were the main drawing factor I decided to get the Futo Maki special roll. I thought the Punk Rock n Roll roll which was just okay, but the eel has bones in it and while that's not unheard of with unagi, I've had better rolls where I didn't have to take the bones out of them. Added onto this, I think the wait was kind of long but they probably had a lot of orders. Waited a bit more than 30 minutes from placing the order to getting the food. Another thing I noticed that was a bit disturbing was I noticed an employee who wasn't masked working as one of the sushi preparers and I thought I heard him cough and continue to prepare sushi. I'm not sure if he was the one who did cough but during a pandemic this is a bit unnerving, and I hope this business is making sure they're keeping customers safe/healthy. Overall, I'm disappointed they got my order wrong and hope the wait time can be improved. I understand this is food court sushi but for $25 I've had better sushi at mall food courts in smaller towns, so that's kind of a let down. Suny Sushi is the best sushi my wife and I have found in Annandale to date. We've tried the sushi deluxe and unagi don many times and we're never disappointed. They are located in a food court by K Market International, so you're not going to get much ambiance, but we don't care because it's great sushi, so we pick it up and bring it home. I wish they had wrapped the fish around all rolls that they served, because the taste would've been better and more enjoyable. I liked their presentation, but I would not go back again. Just because for the quality and price per roll, it could've been outstanding, but ended up being ok. This place is in a food court of an Asian grocery store. First, even with a 3-star rating, I'd give it another chance. Why not a higher rating? Well, the tuna on the deluxe sashimi order for about $30 was seared lightly and had some chewy/sinewy portion. Plus, the tuna had a slight detectable fishy smell. This searing on the outer part was an indication of the lack of freshness with the tuna, in my opinion, and I've never ever seen seared sashimi before. Another problem I had was an incredibly small amount of wasabi a that was included. And the pickled ginger was a teaspoonful. The wasabi was a pea-size amount. Really?! What made up for these negatives was the variety of seafoods that were decently fresh and tender. If they fix these issues, their rating would go up. read more
