Beijing Tokyo - Orange Chicken and General Tso's Chicken

Quiet on Sunday at 4:30. While the snow melted and washed away the snow (FINALLY) I ventured out…read morefor some General Tso's chicken. Ever notice Chinese food places never advertise? But wait. My go-to spot suddenly closed, leaving me in a bit of a lurch! Where do I go?! We all have our favorite Chinese restaurant, and when we can't go to that one there's a little bit of a conundrum. I take American Chinese food seriously - which really means I order the same thing 98% of the time because that's my GO TO meal. As an intellectual, that is of course General Tso's chicken. Beijing Tokyo blends north and south Asia into a rather cozy, strip mall location. One person was talking obliviously on her cell phone, while the sushi Chef took orders. Until Yelp asked me if this place was romantic, I hadn't actually thought about it that way. But it is a little romantic. The tables are close together, the light is low, even if this place was full it would be... Cozy. A Chinese restaurant that's cozy is a very short leap to romantic. You can have a conversation here. I ordered my usual and waited about 10 minutes. The GTC was excellent. It had spice and flavor, but not too spicy. The fried rice was delicious. Good portion size and a good price. Two egg rolls and the total came to $25.25. No surprises, nothing out of the ordinary. If you had told me this had come from my favorite- now sadly closed - Chinese restaurant, I would have never known the difference. And there in lies what I think makes a good Chinese restaurant: predictability. American Chinese food is a distinct cuisine with the same menus, the same waving Buddah and melamine plates. The difference is quality, and the taste of your favorite meal. I am sad that my favorite place closed, but Beijing Tokyo is my new Chinese food restaurant, and I think it's pretty darn good.

Just didn't like that they give you packaged crispy noodles instead of fresh made ones Dumplings-good taste and flavorful dipping sauce Egg roll-standard Crispy chicken proper- asked for it extra saucy and no spice. And both requests were honored. Service was very nice even on a busy Wednesday night (Thanksgiving Eve) Ambiance- It's not overly large inside but there are about 8 tables for inside dining.

While it is a little small it has a charming interior that feels as if you've been transported to Japan. The chairs are super comfy and the plates are adorable! The service is great, if you have allergies they will try their best to accommodate you. It's wonderful! I had the orange chicken, my brother got the general tso's, and my sister got beef lo mein. We had the spring rolls and sichuan cabbage for appetizers. The spring rolls were very light and had a delicious flavor, the cabbage was the perfect blend of spicy and sour and makes for a great palette cleanser. Both of the chickens were great, the coating wasn't thick and the sauce had a nice flavor. The lo mein noodles, oh boy you gotta try those. They're not only delicious but they don't taste greasy like some other places. And finally let's talk portion size, they give a very generous amount of food. Literally depending on how much you eat you'll make 2-3 meals out of it. Seriously don't skip this place, it's a hidden treasure. The only unfortunate thing is that they don't serve tea BUT they will get you warm water. P.S the dessert is a MUST

We tried YiPin Noodle this week and it was a solid eating experience. Goyza arrived quickly and was…read morea tasty starter. Two of us ordered ramen, which was flavorful and the portion filling. The YiPin fried rice received two thumbs up from a teen. We sat near the front window, which currently has blinking lights around it. From the outside the lights are appealing, but I discourage anyone with any sensory sensitivity from sitting where the lights are visible. There is seating behind a wall where the lights would be blocked from view. We got used to the lights after a short time and no one in our party was bothered by them, but even the teens commented that the lights would bother some people. The service was adequate. The two people working the front of the restaurant were courteous and welcoming. They brought water without us requesting it and were quick to put in our appetizer order. The food came out in a reasonable time and our water was refilled once while we ate. I had to get the wait staff's attention more than once during our visit (to order dessert and pay the bill), which for me signals the wait staff isn't paying enough attention. They were slow to bring me the check so we could pay and leave. I am going to be optimistic that the service will improve in needed ways as the staff gain more experience and learn how to better manage multiple tables. We hope to add YiPin to our family's shortlist of go-to eateries and we will be back to explore the menu further.

Dear reader, Kanji…read moreAYCE Sushi in Springfield offers, quite simply, one of the best sushi deals in the area. There is something deeply satisfying about being able to order whatever you fancy without feeling like every additional roll requires a minor financial consultation. Better still, the quality is actually very good, which is where many all-you-can-eat arrangements lose the plot. Here, the fish is fresh, the options are plentiful, and the whole experience feels properly worth it. This is absolutely a place to arrive hungry and leave very happy indeed. A strong showing for Springfield and an easy recommendation for any sushi-loving member of society.

Yet, Kanji Sushi in Springfield remains one I've been to more than 3 times in the 8 or so months I've been living in this area. At $30 per person, it's a pretty fair price considering it includes sushi, apps, and hibachi!!!! I love the Shrimp hibachi and the shumai dumplings. But my favorite sushi roll? It's gotta be the Snow Mountain Roll (pictured below$ without a doubt!!! It's got shrimp tempura and shredded crabstick -- two of my fav proteins in sushi!!! The inside is nice and there's a conveyor belt that's included in the AYCE. But if you go anytime after 5pm be prepared for a long wait time. This place is great and very popular.
