I had only had Korean food once, maybe, before going to 9292 Shabu, so eating at this restaurant felt almost like taking an international trip. They have numerous vegetables and mushrooms I had never seen before, and I thoroughly enjoyed the process of choosing my veggies, broth, noodles, meat, and sauce ingredients, as well as making my dinner in my own little hotpot. In terms of the process, I'd say it is the Asian equivalent of fondue. Although I don't think I ate a huge number of calories, I was totally stuffed by the end of the meal, probably because I ate so much fiber and had such a mind-engrossing, fun, creative process of making my dinner. And it was delicious! Highly recommended for those on healthy diets, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan, as well as those who like to have a unique or cross-cultural dining experience. This place is ok, very small in space and selection. Sauce bar is pretty weak, the food bar itself looks clean. The meat selection is also limited, we got the prime beef and the fatty rib eye. Went here on a weeknight on a Thursday. It was relatively empty overall and we were perhaps the third table in the entire restaurant at prime dinner time of 7pm. However, server was pretty attentive when we were there. The only thing we had to order through the were drinks, the meat, and the broth. Everything else, you do it self-serve which is pretty convenient and makes it fast. The selection was pretty good so I had no complaints. However, one thing we did not like was the inconsistency in meat quality each time we ordered it. The same fatty beef brisket came out in different ways on 3 different occasions. Overall, my boyfriend and I enjoyed this place, but wouldn't be our top choice to come back for hot pot. Even though the quality of their meat and veggies was excellent, 40 dollars for all you can eat from a very limited menu, with limited broth choices, is pricey compared to the other hot pot places in the area. The service started off well but as the place got busy (there was one waiter for like seven tables) we hardly got to see our server due to the fact that he was busy with other customers. We ended up with the bone broth for our individual pots and it was flavorful, especially with the fresh vegetables buffet that was the highlight of this place. Great fresh meat and seafood for the hotpot. The veggies, sides, and sauces are in a buffet style, so you may go up and get as much or little as you'd like. There are 2 prices tiers clearly shown on their menu: $30 for no ribeye and crab, and $40 with. A bit higher than other hotpots, due to the rising costs for ribeye, and the outlandish costs of blue crab. Therefore I prefer the $30 option, as I'm not big on blue crabs in soups. The service is fantastic with friendly and attentive staff. And if needed, there is a button you can ring to get the attention of the server. But that's common for Korean owned hotpot, which I love. I've been there 3 times, and the only options were Dashi, spicy Dashi, bone broth, and spicy Mara. The veggie and spicy veggie broth weren't available. Tl;dr Overall, a clean and fresh selection of meat and seafood, great veggies and sauces (mostly Korean style). Slightly higher cost due to a $10 upcharge for the ribeye, but if you stick with the $30 option, the Prime Brisket will do, although noticeably tougher meat compared with ribeye. 8.5/10 would recommend. read more

This is a somewhat small but new and clean looking hotpot conveniently located in Annandale. For $29.99/person as the basic option, this beats the price at a lot of other local AYCE hot pot restaurants in the area. There's also a $39.99/person option but we decided against it, because we weren't interested in the few items that were additionally included at the higher tier (crab & ribeye). What's fun about this place is that you're only ordering broth, raw meat and seafood from the waiter. The remainder of the items such as veggies, appetizers (kimchi), and the more "processed" meat items (ex. fish balls, dumplings), are all located on a self serve buffet display along with the dipping sauce bar. Strangely I also saw Vietnamese rice paper in the buffet display, in case anyone wants to make their own summer rolls (I thought it was a hassle so I didn't take any). The meat here may not be of the highest quality, but they taste quite good for the price and selection. I also really enjoyed the dumplings & meatballs / fishballs here. The cons: there are a few missing items on the menu here, such as fish, which is common at a lot of other hotpot places. Dessert items here are lacking, the one dessert option we saw was grapes in the buffet area. It's nice that this place takes reservations, even if you have a party of just 4, which isn't allowed at some other hotpot restaurants. Clean and convenient! All you can eat for $30 a person. The vegetables and sides were buffet style which I preferred so I can try a little bit of everything and get a whole plate of dumplings. Rice is free too, but as an expert at all you can eat, it's a cardinal sin to eat more sides than meat. Worth a try! read more

Their sauce bar and noodles selection were vast. If I were to critique 9292 Shabu is that they lack udon noodle and their soup selection is lacking flavor. Hope they add a few more soup option, such as Tom yum and herbal flavors. They have a large alcoholic beverages selection and many imported beers. The service and food were fantastic. The restaurant only had one single server for over 15 tables. The owner sat behind the register (that you don't even pay at) and was on his phone and watched while his sole server literally ran around the entire restaurant helping guests. We ended up paying and left a generous tip and the owner had the audacity to come out and say we tipped the server too much. The server was working completely alone without any help. Our first time trying a new hotpot place in the area- and we absolutely loved it! If you haven't been, definitely worth a visit and judge for yourself. Their meat is very fresh, I love their choices of broth (more Korean-style options, e.g. their bone broth is so good, reminds me of 설렁탕 국물), I love their buffet style Veggie stand so you don't have to wait for refills, and on top of everything, service was top notch. It is an all-you-can-eat hot pot for $40 per person. The price is too high for the food. There are only about 6 types of meat and only 5 types of seafood. It seems like there are many types of vegetables, but in fact, there are almost none to eat. There are tomatoes, blackwood mushrooms, red potatoes, taro roots, and purple cabbages. Who the hell actually wants these when you eat hot pot? It's definitely not worth it for $40 per person. Urban hot pot has enoki mushrooms and blue crabs for dinner, and it's $35 per person for dinner. Just go to another hot pot restaurant. Not coming back here. The service was good though. read more

Good flavor and good service. This place is small and straight forward. The only hot pot place that doesn't allow a table to order separate items. One person at the table wanted seafood and the rest meat so we were told either we all had to pay an upgrade for seafood even if two people at the table didn't want seafood or we all had to pay a lower price and the one person who wanted seafood would not get seafood, so it was not enjoyable for everyone at the table.
