Was waiting around for an appointment so we decided to grab some breakfast. It was more like brunch around 1130/ noon, but on a Sunday morning , not very busy but since there was many shops not yet open , there was more traffic around this shop. Ordering was fairly simple and listed like it is at Hong Kong cafes with number/letter codes like B2 and such. We got the minced beef rice roll and the corn and pork congee combo coming up to $14.50. The signage was clear on what items would be an extra uncharge. The rice roll was soft ( but not too soft with a good chew) and smooth, small amount of beef filling. There is a sauce station to the side of the cash area with soy sauces, chilli oil , and sesame sauce. With little plastic cups on the side. The congee was on the more watery side and looked plain but there was good depth of flavour in each bite. Decent amount of pork and corn. It was comforting. All in all, a decent quick meal for a food court. Perhaps the bar is set high for me with a place like Yin Ji Cheng Fan but this was close ! Prices are reasonable for the amount we got. An option to come back for sure.

Dak Mai's "Mai" stands for rice in Cantonese and depicts the diner's specialty - rice rolls made with 100% stone milled rice. Thus, one would find the texture and filling of their rice rolls different than those from dim sum restaurants; I recommend one must get a taste for yourself to see which kind of rice rolls is more to your liking. For this first visit, we ordered combo B where you can choose any rice roll item plus a soup from the two choices of pork bone soup. I would visit again just for their soup, as I enjoyed its herbal flavors and the presentation in a ceramic clay container. Note: $5 cash deposit is deducted for the ceramic clay soup bowl, remember to return bowl for money back~ Yup, my Mom didn't know about the deposit and was kindly reminded so I am paying the kindness forward :) Other menu items such as soy milk and combo A (which comes with rice roll and congee) look like ideal choices for breakfast. Yet, at time of review, it seems they don't open until noon. Shop is located at the corner of the Crystal Mall food court by the walkway or look for their bright blue neon sign!

I came here looking for Cantonese soup and was disappointed to learn it was not available. Apparently the machine had broke down. I tried the rice roll #9 which had both beef and pork. It was about a 10-15 minutes wait. It could have been shorter as when I went to check, it was already there. They called out the numbers in Cantonese which I didn't understand or speak. So I could have missed them calling my number. It would have been better if they invest in an electronic board showing the number or call out the numbers in English too. The rice roll was decent. I liked they gave a generous serving of the sauce which actually covered the rolls. Many places gave like half the portion only. I may come here for rice rolls in future as it's near my place. And hopefully the soups will be available then.

One of the newest additions to the Crystal Mall food court. Parking is available below the mall. They serve rice rolls, congee, and double steamed soups. I got to try all 3. Rice roll - decent meat and taste. However, the proportion of meat is low. See photo. I think the container was 90% rice roll sheet. Knock 1 star off. Pork congee - once again, decent taste. However, the portion size is rather small. For this, I'd rather go to Fung May a few steps away. Chicken soup with hispid fig root and dried fig - really nice herbal taste. Served in a clay container without handles. They really should use ones handles. Couldn't pick the thing up. Anyways, hope these guys survive. And it's nice to see some variety around here.

Dak rolls... Finally got a chance to give this new addition to the food court a try for a quick lunch. A lot of good food started here at this food court during the last decade or two so let's see if this place has potential. This food stall is located at the front right corner of the food court. The menu is displayed above the counter and all the sauces are self served at the counter. And the customer service is pretty basic. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Pork bone soup with apricot and sea coconut. The soup came in a tureen after it was reboiled, it's hot so be careful (there is a $5 deposit for the tureen, get it back when down and returned the tureen). Soup was okay, but mom's still way ahead. 2. Minced pork and egg rice rolls. The rice rolls are made for order so they were all fresh; however, the ingredients were a bit lacking and the rice rolls didn't have that silky smoothness. 3. Dry shrimps and green onion rice rolls. Once again a bit lacking with the fillings and the rice roll itself fell short of that silky smoothness. 4. Preserved egg and minced pork congee. This was okay, pretty average I would day. No complaints or don't expect a foodgasm from it. Overall, the food here was okay and always nice to have an option for fresh rice rolls and double boiled soup. I think the prices were pretty fair, just the soup was a couple of dollars too high. Although I think Hei Hei and another place is still a bit better, I would repeat for its rice rolls and soup if I am in the area since it's always a fun atmosphere at this food court.

Finally got a chance to try this place after a few decades. Still remember when it was Dragon Inn…read more The place was packed late at night, which is always a good sign. Parking is available but limited in the lot in front. Better to look along Kingsway, or in the side streets behind the restaurant. I found it hilarious that the lot specifically prohibits parking for Tina Cake next door. Guess that must've been a problem over the years. The inside is plain and quite dated (old school). Looks like something out of the 1980s. Awesome. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. Everything hit the spot in terms of authentic Cantonese. I had the stir fried beef with black pepper sauce, Hainan style chicken, and sweet and sour pork. Everything tasted great. Portion sizes are decent, and prices are quite reasonable. As the dishes are shared, it is best to come in groups (at least 3-4) so more dishes can be ordered. Looks like I've found my go-to for late night Cantonese food. Recommended.

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 6 Value: 7 Overall: 6 Cantonese food is generally good in Vancouver. This place has been decent in the past and consistently put out large portions of food at reasonable prices. I don't believe anything is outstanding, but always an overall enjoyable meal. Service is relatively friendly too. On a recent night, the most memorable dish had to be the Bean Sprouts w/ Salted Fish, which was full of umami and went well with a bowl of white rice. The Steamed Oysters w/ Garlic Sauce, Beef Chow Fun, and Seafood Chow Mein were all solid. However, the Dry Scallop Fish Maw Soup was bland, and the Goose Casserole w/ Taro was a major disappointment. Reminder to self, I originally wanted to order Tofu Skin in Dry Scallop Sauce, but was convinced otherwise. The recommended dish had snow pea leaves that were a bit tough, though the supreme broth and tofu skin that came with it were yummy. Next time, I want to try my initial selection. Also, don't forget that cheap late night eats is something I should come back for.
