First time to this corner strip mall, next to the always busy Aberdeen centre. Did not know there were this many restaurants there and they all look yummy. This tiny Hong Kong diner is known for their rice rolls and clay pot rice. Being winter time, this is perfect. Got to say it was very enjoyable. The rice rolls were beautifully translucent, thin while having great texture. The crisp lettuce, meaty beef slices, and warm soy dressing was a great complement in flavour and texture. Been so long since I had claypot rice and this one was a gem. Piping hot, fragrant, and each grain of rice was not sticking together. The crispy bottom was plenty. Never knew this place existing. Stumbled upon it we didn't order rice rolls but tried their spare rib claypot rice. They were very welcoming and even offered free parking outside. I kept seeing this spot pop up on my feed and had to check them out. Rice rolls? Congee? Two things I adore. As their name suggests, they specialize in rice rolls. With over 20 types of rice rolls to choose from, it can be a bit overwhelming. I tried one with beef and was anticipating the typical dimsum style beef which is ground and chopped up, so you could imagine I was a little taken back when it arrived with slices of what is likely to be shabu shabu or hot pot beef slices within it. To be clear, this wasn't a bad thing. I should have looked at all the pics here and I would have known before ordering. Most importantly, the rice roll itself was a perfect texture and I'd definitely try it again. As part of a combo available before 11am, I also ordered a sliced fish congee. It wasn't anything special, but it helped fill me up since the rice rolls themselves wouldn't be enough for any larger appetite. I came here with a friend for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon around 1:30, since I had some errands to run in Richmond. The menu is pretty straightforward and consists of a variety of congee and rice rolls. Most of the congee and rice rolls cost around $7-8. If you come earlier, between 8-11 am, you can also order their breakfast combo which is a congee + rice roll set for $13.75. I wasn't sure if a rice roll would be enough, so I ordered both the the #1 rice roll (shrimp, scallop, and beef) as well as a fish congee. My friend, who is vegetarian, ordered #21 (green onion and egg rice roll), as well as a Chinese donut ($3.25). I really enjoyed my rice roll but wish there was more chang fun / rice roll to it for the $8 I paid. It feels like I finished it with just a couple bites. It's good I ordered the congee as well, otherwise I would've been pretty hungry still. My friend enjoyed his rice roll as well but agreed it wasn't that filling. He ended up ordering a second rice roll when he realized he needed more food. We ended up paying close to $40 after tax and tip for this lunch... not a cheap meal. I LOVE rice rolls and could eat them every day. There aren't any restaurants that specialize in rice rolls, in the Bay Area, Ca where I live (to my knowledge). I was excited to find a spot that specializes in this when I was visiting Vancouver. I went in on Tuesday 8/16/22 around opening time. Upon sitting down they bring you a nice warm cup of tea. You can order on your phone but I was having problems loading the page so I asked the staff to bring me a physical menu. I decided to order the egg and onion rice roll. Overall fair. Their specialty rice rolls, lots of varieties to choose and accompany well with congee. However, the roll itself doesn't have that slurpy texture, a little too thick. I tried their 3 trios, consisted scallops, shrimp and beef with some veggies wrapped in the roll. The scallops do not go well in my opinion. The beef brisket roll had good flavors but the meat was too chewy. The sauce paired well with the roll. Their butter pineapple bun was toasty and tasted delicious. The congee was ok, not too watery. This HK style dimsum/ snack place just opened for less than a month and is still testing the clientele and the feedback (should I say it is still on probation?) Apparently there's lots of room for improvements: such as the price, the portion, the menu, the pace of food presentation etc etc... We went on a Saturday morning and it was packed. The portion sizes are big considering the price. The food was authentic and didn't need much seasoning/sauce. Love this congee place! This is my second time here, ordered take out last time and we ate everything before we took picture. Perfect rainy morning day off for me to enjoy some quiet time. They have a special combo for mornings before 11am, congee plus rice roll. I have to say that I have been craving for them since last time I ordered takeout. However they are slightly on the expensive side for breakfast, $13.95 for the combo vs no.9 for the same kind of combos for under $10.00 But I decided to splurge again and see if it still lives up to my craving, and YES! :) You can definitely tell the difference of a good bowl of congee. Seasoned, creamy and soft ummmm steaming good Rice rolls are excellent, well they are call master of rice rolls! And this time at sit in I got to try their specialty spicy sauce. I love it! We came around 3pm, I'm not sure if that's too closed to opening. The rice rolls wasn't the most fresh. I think if we came in the morning, it might have been better. The rice roll was very thin. However, their sweet soy sauce was too salty. We ordered one for each of us. The classic fried chinese donut rice roll and the shrimp and chive rice roll. It came out fairly quickly. It wasn't steaming, a bit warmer than room temperature. The donut was not crispy. The dough was quite dense. The service here was a bit awkward. We only ordered two items, however, the staff brought out another plate of fried chicken. (I think it was marked on the back from previous customers. And the menu wasn't clean off properly after.) She was nice enough to not make us take it. However, we heard in chinese that they talking about us. Anyway, aside from that. This place was only okay... First off, we went later than their "breakfast" hour so all the congee was sold out. We went on to order only 2 of their rice rolls to share. One was a 3 meats one and the other was just a BBQ pork rice roll. The rice paper was thin, but didn't have that rustic thin rice roll you would expect from a homemade type of feel. The filling was generous and the soy sauce was good, but really that is about where it ends. The service was also only okay. This place is overrated. They updated the photos here after we went there. Their breakfast combo was available from 8am - 1pm in the previous photos; now they updated the photos to 8am - 11am which was what we were told when we arrived. The printed menu given, which was on paper and not laminated as shown here, was without color and the font was very fuzzy. In terms of food, they just gave us a long piece of Chinese Donut instead of serving it in smaller pieces as shown in the picture. The congee was full of white pepper taste. They wrote pig stomach in Chinese but they wrote pig liver in English. They did not have squid in the congee as indicated; they gave us scallop instead. The shredded scrambled egg in the congee was overwhelming. They did not give us the fried crisps for the toppings; they gave us pieces of Chinese donut instead. For the Vegetarian Rice Roll, it was mostly made with carrots with only a few streaks of Chinese mushroom and some black fungus. The rice roll was barely warm when it arrived, and the sauce container was plastic which was weird because plastic is for take out. Because we were not given the menu with pictures as shown here, we did not know if the rice roll, which looked like a big packet instead of the small separated rice rolls seen at dim sum restaurants, was their genuine style or they just did not want to do the work. Service was not impressive. Our food took a long time to arrive while the food arrived right away for the people who came after us. The server did not tell us the name of the congee when she brought it to our table; she looked away instead. Also, they did not ask us what we would like to drink and they did not give us water or tea as most Chinese restaurants would; it was odd. The congee was above average. That's about it. The rice roll was subpar given it was $9. The portion in general was small. The fillings for the rice roll was decent but the rice roll did not hold itself together as it fell apart easily. The clay pot rice was the biggest disappointment. It was basically steamed chicken shreds with mushroom and ginger. Not to mention the bottom of the rice was not crispy. Iced lemon tea is a rip off for $5. In general, I think this place is not a traditional HK place where you'd get traditional HK eats for a decent price. It is over priced and the portions are small. My mother and I went to this place for lunch on a Saturday. This place is located at the inner corner of a strip mall and it's a small venue (about 5-6 tables). On that day, we ordered the Shrimp rice roll, the vegetarian rice roll and the Mince Beef Congee. The congee tasted good, freshly- made and typical in favor made in most Chinese restaurants. As for the rice rolls, they were house-made and tasted good. The Shrimp rice roll, the noodle wrap was sticky and lumpy. As for the vegetarian rice roll, they were just rolled up noodle wrap and sprinkle some sesame seed. Overall, it was a typical cafe and there was no creative in preparing my meal. I love the flavors here and it is now my new to go place (i used to go to the Congee Noodle House on Broadway, but they are no longer in business). I highly recommend tgis place. We ordered congee and rice roll combo with a side of spicy dumpling. The congee is too thick for us to the point that I needed to force myself to swallow.
