    Spicy chicken
    Michealea F.

This is found in the second floor of richmond public market and one of the staff can speak English. The food is ok but has great portion. For $18 through fantuan pickup, I got a lot of dishes. I ordered spicy chicken set. The spicy chicken is a bit oily and the flavor is a bit lacking. My favorite is the tomato and egg because it's a hearty meal and I like that it's not salty.

Noodle broth is too salty and just lacked of giving a fulfilling feeling and now no egg with the beef noodle bowl . Poor choices by the owners I cannot recommend this place anymore

After making multiple rounds in the food court trying to decide on what to eat, we finally picked Chef Liu Kitchen. All of the other stalls were serving generic pre-made Chinese food (i.e. fried rice, noodles, general Tso's chicken) but the spicy intestines here caught my eye. I ordered the combo for $17, and it was a lot of food. You get a bowl of the spicy intestines, rice, and three sides. The "sides" were already like an entire meal by itself! I picked tofu (they gave two huge chunks), tomato egg, and black bean string beans stir-fried with ground beef (?). This wasn't anything super special, but it was really comforting, especially having just gotten off a long flight. The spicy intestines had intestines, tofu, and pig blood, and there is a generous amount in there. I didn't know that it would be mala spicy, which I don't like because of the flavor and the tongue-numbing sensation - but this one wasn't too spicy. It was tolerable. Still, I would have preferred a different flavor. If I lived in the area, I wouldn't mind just getting the rice and some of their sides. Makes for a simple yet delicious meal.

Taiwanese beef noodle place near the SW corner of Richmond Public Market food court. Parking is available in the lot next to the food court. This place has takeout (meat on rice) combos, as well as noodle soup. I tried their Taiwanese beef noodle. Pretty decent taste. Nice large chunks of brisket. Soup was decent too. However, the soup bowl was only 2/3 full. See photo. My buddy ordered from here and his bowl was also 2/3 full, so it wasn't a fluke or a bad serving. When every other place here serves bowls that are 90-100% full, this is a problem. Knock 1 star off. I had to buy another dinner elsewhere right after eating this. Go figure.

Review is for chicken nuggets only - this was the juiciest popcorn chicken I've ever had. Great flavor in the batter as well. A little bit of spicy powder on top. The pieces were big and meaty.

I decided to go for the basic. Beef noodle soup. It was pretty good. I liked how they gave more veggie than the customary stalk of greens. There was about 4 chunky pieces of beef. The soup was flavorful. It was a lot of noodles so you would definitely be full. I would get this again. Besides the dishes who would be made to order, there is also a cooked food area where you could select the dishes to go with your rice. While the mall closes at 6 pm, this stall closes at 7 pm. Tuesday is their day off. Parking is available at the mall.

Second time visiting, we ordered the fried chicken, shrimp balls, beef noodle soup and a side of veggies Taste 1/1* Almost all dishes were amazing, with the exception of beef noodle soup, which came highly recommended, it was just too sweet for our taste, and noodles turned soft 5 minutes in If you get the bentos, make sure to get the peas and Bambi shoots as sides, simply delicious Value 0.5/1* $15-$17 for bento that feeds two, what a good deal! Service 1/1* Fast and very friendly Cleanliness 1/1* As clean as food court gets Overall/Revisit 1/1* Will definitely be back third, fourth and many more times Paying for ambience? 0/-1* NO Above and beyond? 0/+1* NO

Solid Taiwanese food! Ordered the minced pork and marinated egg over rice - decent portion, flavorful, and quite filling. Hubs ordered the assorted meat over noodles, and this was tasty as well. Good portion of meat to rice/noodles. Food was ready in about 10 minutes after placing our order.

I'm Taiwanese and grew up with this type of food at home. With covid still amongst us, this is a nice dish that transports me back to my mom and grandma's home cooking. I bought the zhajiangmian for lunch, and went back again on the same day to buy my dinner. The auntie working there was very warm also. It's a cash only place, and I didn't have enough change. The auntie let me buy the food I wanted anyways ($0.25 difference). Definitely going back if I'm in the area!

Chef Liu Kitchen - Public market I've been impressed every time I come to this stall. Even though the storefront looks rather ghetto, and food sometimes comes out slow, the quality and freshness of the items there is surprisingly good. Recently, I tried the fried pork chop noodles. Because they ran out of their famous beef noodles. The pork chop is flavourful and crunchy, the meat is tender and the noodles have a decent texture as well. For a food court stall, foodwise, I can't imagine it being much better than this. One thing to note about this place though...Since it's probably a small family own business, they kinda work as they please. I don't know their exact hours, but they are not always open when the mall is open, and even when they are, they often run out of their signature beef noodles. So be prepared to try something different if you want to try this stall. Food 10 Service 8 Ambiance 6 Value 9

Marinated intestines, Kung pao chicken combo
    Nancy L.

This little vendor recently upped all of their prices. This didn't drive me away as I still love the food here. I would come here for Taiwanese food whenever I got a craving. Like I've mentioned before, their side dishes that come with the combo are much better than what you'd get at Taiwanese restaurants. My absolute favorite is the tofu. It's essentially ma po tofu and can basically be an entrée on its own. My husband and I decided to go out for a quick bite today before going for groceries. First we went somewhere to grab my congee before coming here to order more food. Tonight we got the marinated intestines and Kung pao chicken combo. The intestines were kind of pricey - $6.50. They were also a little hard to chew. The major disappointment today was the kung pao chicken combo. The portion was absolutely puny. The meat, rice and the three side dishes were much much less than what we'd usually get. The chicken itself was mediocre. It was too dry and not tasty. The side dishes were still delicious but just way too little. This place usually earns a 4/5 stars in my mind every time I go; however, tonight I was very disappointed. If it wasn't for the yummy side dishes, I would've given them a 2 star. I really hope they redeem themselves the next time I go again.

We love going to Richmond Public Markets as there's a lot of options for food. I personally keep on coming back to Chef Lui, even with the other options. Their chicken nuggets are great and comes in a big portion. Their Beef Noodle Soup is always on point. If you don't want noodle soup, try their beef stew. Its pretty much nearly the same thing but more veggies and seperated. All rice combos come with 3 side toppings on the rice. I always get the tomatoes and egg and cabbage. Tip: If you eat there, make sure you ask for the free tea. It's delicious.

The food court in Richmond Public Market can seem intimidating when you see the various stalls lined up with almost no English to be heard, but don't let that deter you. I've eaten here before and today I was craving some Taiwanese beef noodle soup, and the place to go was Chef Liu for their #1. For $13 it's a generous size bowl, but you think WTH it's a basic food court so shouldn't it be cheaper? Relax! Once the soup comes out and you take that first whiff of the Intoxicating aroma followed by a spoonful of the broth, all will be forgotten! They spoon a generous amount of fresh garlic and a fresh tomato slice into the broth and when you mix it all up, it just works! There is a hint of heat in the aftertaste of the soup to wake up the tastebuds and the beef....the beef is oh so tender melt in your mouth packed full of flavor beef! I should have ordered extra beef with my soup (not sure if it was an option but dammit, it should be!) I've eaten at Tin Dai Fung in Seattle and this soup compares with that one on all levels but without the atmosphere and price tag. If you just want a great bowl of flavorful soup, look no further!

What's appealing here is that their Instagram advertises daily specials so you can get some dishes for a great discount (like 40% off). We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. They ended up honoring the discount. Also, they shut down ordering 1 min before 10:30pm - guess they didn't want more money as we wanted to order 1 more dish and they preemptively told the kitchen to close. Sure it's fine no big deal, it was a lot of food.

The dining space is small but the decoration inside makes you feel like you transported to a different country. Marshmallow Thick Toast 4/5 The toast was about an inch thick, well toasted outside with a pillowy soft center. There's some melted chocolate on the bottom that added to the smores vibe. The marshmallows on top weren't very thick, so it melted to an even layer with perfect browning. The toast was cut into 9 pieces so it can be shared but given the portion I think 1-2 people would be fitting for this dessert. We weren't too hungry, so we shared amongst 4. Jasmine Tea Jelly 4/5 I really liked how fragrant the jelly was and that the jelly was a softer jelly that reminds you of Aiyu jelly. The after taste was a bit bitter but I feel like that tells me it was brewed and made and not just bought to serve. It's served with a splash of half and half I believe. To-Go I wanted to try and compare all the tea flavored jellies they had, Jasmine, Oolong and Earl Grey Tea Jelly. Packaged with small packets of the half and half to add later. The best was OOLONG 5/5- it had a slight roasted tea flavor that was refreshing and comforting at the same time. What you would want from a milk tea. Second best was Jasmine - fragrant and less bitter than the one I had in restaurant, typical jasmine flavor that's lightly floral and not too heavy Earl Grey 3/5 - it was good if you like earl grey like me, but it has an intensely strong fragrance and flavor that might be off-putting if you're not used to the taste. It was by far the strongest floral taste and smell of the three. I'd definitely be back to get these to go, they carry well and you can cross borders with them :)

Thanks for the recommendation Jando S. At first glance, the prices are average for this type of food. However, once I saw the humongous portions, I believe this vendor should clearly be categorized as cheap eats. For example, for roughly $10, you get three large pork chops (fried or marinated, I slightly preferred the fried more), sautéed cauliflower in XO sauce, soy braised tofu skin (so good I paid for extra $5 portion), crunchy pickles, stewed fish tofu, marinated egg, and a whole separate box of white rice. This is easily $15-20 in NYC. Same price for the crispy, tender, and juicy Chicken Nuggets (aka Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken) with all the trimmings. The quality of every item in the box was top notch and all very delicious. What many customers ordered that interests me for the next visit was the Salt & Pepper Chicken (椒麻鸡), which was basically a huge piece of pounded chicken thigh, battered like the popcorn chicken, with a mala sauce on top.
