I used to love this store but I'll never come back. First of all it's gone downhill it's not stocked like it used to be. Second. The man that was working there was so rude. He literally yelled across the store at me for having an iced coffee and told me to leave. 0 communication skills. I haven't written a bad review in quite a while but when people are rude is when I feel like I should share in hopes that no one else will go through a similar unpleasant experience. My elderly mom purchased a small item and paid for it in dimes because it was a little over a dollar. The cashier, who said her name was "Michelle" very rudely told her that they have an in-store policy in which they don't accept so many coins, which is fine, but the way she said it was extremely rude. She told her, "the next time you want to use coins in the store, make sure that you separate them by quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies BEFORE getting to the cashier because they're not going to sit there counting coins." What??Ok, so first of all, she was only using dimes AND she counted them out for her, but whether Michelle was having a bad day or something, she spoke to my mom like she was deaf or a child. Very condescending. We asked for the manager but he went home for the day. So we called today and discovered that they in fact do have a limit on coins policy but it's not written anywhere... so I guess you have to wait till you get a cashier like Michelle to hear a rude earful to discover their strange policy. Anyway, Michelle's whole attitude was SO very unpleasant and unprofessional; it's fine to have a store policy but there is always a nicer way to let people know what that policy is instead of condescendingly insulting a paying customer. I love Daiso. How did I ever live without you? Came by and picked up some things. The 84 cm long grabber was something I missed from back home, and looked everywhere and didn't see elsewhere. The over the door 8 inch hooks are great for cabinet doors - another thing that works well but at an affordable price (vs container store). It's pretty sturdy. I took a stroll on the food aisles and found a few things worth getting. The okinawan black sugar, shichimi powder, shaved bonito flakes, green tea and popcorn tea. The smaller packs are nice - I prefer to buy fresh often. One of the best finds are the Altoids and the Dars chocolates. Honeybuns will be very happy ! Just a note - things disappear quickly at Daiso - sometimes they'll come back, but many times they make room for new items. So if you see something you really really like and want to use, GET IT. It may not come back. I paid $1.50 for a mini latte whip thingy - it's battery operated and still works great. You never know what you'll find. read more

A big store with all the good deals you can get for just $1.50/item. You can find a lot of useful stuffs from stationary, kitchen gears, gardening gears to Japanese snacks and bottled milk tea. The only downfall is all sales are final. I think it's still make Daiso a great store of their cheap price. According to the signs plastered around their store their inventory is limited due to a warehouse problem, and that they're not shutting down. Because of this I had to abandon my shopping at this location and I went to the Lake Forest branch instead since they had slightly more variety of stuff that was in stock. During this time they were constantly announcing over the PA that they were NOT closing and that they didn't take American Express. It was very annoying since there were signs already, although some people were gossiping about them potentially shutting down. (If they're listening in on our conversations I should probably hold more loud conversations about the mannequin heads, heh heh heh.) Also during this experience I heard the grouchy employee speak again but not to us. However, my tourist friend seemed to have recovered from the shock of hearing their tone of voice so I'm not going to let that influence me. I've been to this Daiso location a few times and today was quite an annoyance. When I went to check out using the new self checkout I felt quite discriminated against by the male Japanese cashier?/manager? who kept checking on my checkout process. I requested a bag and he made sure that I had it listed on my purchases and he stopped me from leaving the store to check my purchases twice. I'm sure there's a camera so I wasn't sure why he was checking on me so much and it made me really annoyed since he didn't stop any other customers. All cute and pink and relatively clean, it fools you into thinking you are not at a 99 cent store (while paying 50 cents more!) just like Target fools you into thinking you are not shopping at Wal-Mart (even though you really are and paying extra to feel better about it!). The funny thing is, of course, is that recently Irvine was up in arms (just as they originally were about Target ironically) over a 99 cent store exploring opening in Irvine. Yet Daiso, same concept, everyone loves (of course now Wal-Mart is opening in Irvine so cheap stuff must be all the rage in Master Planned communities). I'm not, to make a bad pun, the target market for this store. It's cheap junk, too crowded, with maniacal shoppers that will repeatedly cut you off just to get to their (here we go again) targeted cheap junk. So I have been hearing from everyone, "You must go check out Daiso. You'll really like it." I made the bad decision of deciding to hit this place during their grand opening month on a Saturday. There were a ton of people in this very pink place. At times in some aisles I was getting claustrophobic and it was pretty warm in there. But with that being said, everything at this place is $1.50 unless otherwise marked. This chain store which originated in Japan has household goods, decorative items, stationery and office supplies, party goods, apparel and shoe area, gardening area, kitchenware and Japanese snacks. A lot of stuff I found myself buying because not necessarily because I needed it, but because it was cute or because it was $1.50. We ended up buying mechanical pencils, Hi-Chew, Chocolate covered biscuit crackers, a lint brush, bowl, water sprayer, cute sponge, etc. They have two lines to check out in, one for cash carriers and one for those using credit cards. I will definitely be back on a weekday to have more of a chance to better peruse the store without hoards of people in there. read more

Is Irvine 50% more expensive than San Diego? Apparently, because unlike the Daiso in Kearny Mesa where most everything is $1, here it is $1.50. it may not seem like a lot, but I'm an accountant so I live with percentages. What is $1.25 in San Diego is $1.75 up here. It's not as big or blindingly bright as other locations, it's set up a little better without the zig zag isle changes. They carry a lot less stuff. There is not as much uniformity of the actual isles, but it's nice a clean. People here are very good at taking their basket, taking their cart, putting it away. I think the service to be slow at the register due to lack of people at the register. It's actually faster if you have cash and can use the cash only line. No big bills people. It's hard to write about a Daiso, if you've been to one you've been to them all. read more

Daiso seems like a new craze in USA but it has been around Asia for quite some time and many years ago. But it is still nice to come into this store and see what products they have and sell because each Daiso store is quite different from the other. Yes some products are the same at many of them but there are ones that they won't have maybe at this location compared to the other. The store in Irvine is pretty big with a large selection of items that yes will cost $1.50 if it doesn't there is a sign that states that the items in that shelf of area is more than $1.50. I like all the cute animal prints of things that you can buy and put at your home for either cleaning or also just decorations. Most products that I have bought are mainly small items such as a small brush/tool to clean with or some hand towels that have cute prints. Asian version of a 99 cents store but instead of everything 99 cents, it's mostly $1.50 unless otherwise stated. You get what you pay for so be picky with what you get. DO NOT GET CARRIED AWAY! Be forewarned. I came in without any intentions of buying anything but I ended up with bags of items worth $20. It adds up! They do have some real cool stuff in here. A few of my good buys here are gift wrappers, cleaning stuff, school supplies for my daughter, iPhone screen protector, kid's bike lock, a few containers for organizing at home, table covers, and some Japanese snacks. I've been to quite a few Diaso's and this is by far the most organized and biggest one. Products in here move fast so if there's something that you like, buy a bunch of them because it might not be around the next time you go. The store consists of mostly $1.50 merchandise but there are several other things that are not so it's important to check out the prices. Some of the things are obviously cheap and poorly made but honestly, what did you expect for $1.50? I like getting pens, arts & crafts supplies, cotton balls and q-tips. There's tons of parking at this strip mall. The only downside is the $10 minimum for credit cards, but otherwise, it's a fun place to visit every now and then. read more

I'd say the grand opening for the first Daiso in OC was a big hit. For most people, the motivating factor for the long lines before the 10am ribbon cutting ceremony was the free gift for the first 200 customers or so (with any purchase with receipt). It turned out to be just a bag full of snacks and candy. Everyone did get a raffle ticket, which will be drawn throughout the week -- which has some big ticket items like the iPad. I've been to a few Daiso stores up in the Bay area, and I've always been amused at all the less than stellar quality of most of their $1.50 items. There is a lot of useless "crap." But I think it's great for kids to browse through for all their cutesy stuff. For college students on the budget, there is some useful kitchen stuff on the right side as you walk in through the entrance -- glassware, cups, utensils, bowls, etc. It's so easy to go crazy and pick up all the cutesy stuff. You have to ask yourself, do I really need this? When everything adds up, it can be more than what you expected to spend! Being a snack person, I love all the candy and snacks (on the farthest left aisle, and throughout the checkout line) -- especially the ones where you can find at Mituswa for higher prices. Don't forget about the drinks on that side too. For a grand opening, the checkout was fast and breezy, and everyone was super nice. The checkout ladies will always make a point to say to you "no returns or exchanges." If you don't acknowledge, they might even yell at you and say "understand?!" My friend Joa K. mentioned to me over a year ago that she wished that Daiso would open up in Irvine. Lo and behold, one just did! We went on opening day after lunch and were met with a long line. No matter, we live for lines in California. It's something to be expected. Having never been to a Daiso before, I was overwhelmed with the multitude of items for $1.50. Some items are more or less but are clearly marked. If it's not marked then it's $1.50. There are bowls, plates, cups, soup spoons, chopsticks, boxes, bud vases, aprons, wigs, mini trash cans, gift wrap, snacks, drinks, etc. There's a ton of stuff. Much larger than the one they opened not too long ago in Rowland Heights. I like their variety and selection of goods a lot better! My main gripe is you need $10 minimum on your credit card. They separate the check out lines for cash or card. All sales are final..no returns. So be careful with what you choose to buy - no turning back! (It's only $1.50 anyway..) Everything in this store is $1.50, unless marked. Not too many items are $3 or $6. I purchased their stone bowls for $2 a couple days ago. The flower design was so cute! I haven't tried it out yet because I'm not too sure what I can cook/serve in it.. Parking here can be tight. They share the lot with Mochilato, Spicy City, and other smaller stores in the same plaza. CVS/Pharmacy and Bruxie are not too far away. This is almost like Target, where I walk out with something I didn't intend to buy! What I love about Daiso is that everything in the store is a $1.50 (for the most part). There are some products you'll find here that are $3, $5, or even $7-10 but don't worry you'll know - Daiso marks the products that cost a little more with stickers that indicate the price. It's like a paradise for all my notebook needs while school's in session and they only cost $1.50 each! Daiso also has a bunch of random stuff too like toys, house shoes, trashcans, q-tips, ping pong balls, and whatever else you might find or need or don't really need, but you're going to buy anyway because you're justifying it due to affordability! Daiso - What I haul on a random Tuesday - Discount Store Near Me - Irvine, California

Being in this store makes me happy. The bright pink walls, the assorted colorful dishes. Everything miniature sized, I feel like I fit in, which is opposite of how I feel in Home Depot (like an ant). One of the items I lucked out finding here was a fish. A dish scrubbie in the shape of a fish that stands on it's tail. Sort of like a dolphin, although it's yellow and white, so cute. I actually smiled at the thought of washing dishes. If only I could find something here that would motivate me to do my laundry. I will have to set aside more time to browse through these aisles. Found another mesh strainer for my hair to get caught on in my bathroom sink. The last one I got had too big of a metal flange and the water drained dreadfully slow. I have high hopes for this one. A couple of moments here. One came at the register when my friend decided to pay for my purchases. That was great! Another came when the cashier who rung up the purchases had a mask on. Which made me wonder what was going on? Transported me back to working in hospitals. How about the movie Contagion? The last surprise awaited me when I got home. Undid the packaging and there were 2 mesh strainers stuck together. They were so thin and light. Guess now I will have a back up. - Merchandise quality is poor, even for "dollar store" type goods - $10 minimum if you use a credit card I suppose this is an Asian "dollar store", however I think most things here are $1.50. Over the last two years I picked up a sun shade, some air fresheners, and a broom. The quality of everything was very poor. If you're reading this and flipping through these yelp reviews to decide if this place is worth a visit. COME HERE. Whatever you have to put down - your phone, your laptop, your food...just COME HERE! This place is like dollar tree (with the +.50 cents) but on a whole new level of coolness. You will get here and get lost in this world of pink cuteness and never look back for your house items, accessories, stationary, useless items, whatever you can think of. If you can't tell already...i absolutely love this place! It's organized very neatly, so you won't have to dig through anything. Although, put aside some time when you make your visit, because if it's your first time, you're going to spend quite some time here! There's everything you can think of here...and almost all items are 1.50. There's a few items here and there that cost more, but those items are labelled. This Daiso location is probably the biggest store, with most selections of items that I've been to. Other locations are smaller, and more cramped with less items. I've been here twice and have yet to find something I need, even at $1.50 but if I need some throwaway stuff I'd consider this place. I could probably entertain myself for hours here. Basically a dollar store, with almost everything at a set price of $1.50. You can find the most random assortment of things, from kitchenware to stationary to bras (what?). Not gonna lie, I almost always walk out empty handed because I usually go in just to browse, but I'd definitely say it's worth a visit if you actually need things (could probably stock your entire kitchen with kitchenware for less than $20). read more

When I'm looking for a cheap fix for almost anything, this is my go to. My last purchase was Daiso's version of super glue. It did not work. But their other products are fine. A few glasses broke during dishwashing (could have been me and not the product). The consumables are on par. Maybe I was expecting more given it is a Japanese store.
