Imagine for a moment, if a 99 cent store and a Five Below mated and had a child who grew up in Japan; that final product would be called Daiso. Daiso is one of the most aesthetically pleasing stores I've ever been to with bright and warm colors and lights emanating from every direction. From the moment you walk in, your eyes focus on the entire store and for a moment your heart stops and then you quickly grab a basket and start shopping! Everything is $1.50 (unless otherwise indicated on the item). They have everything from school supplies, kitchen utensils, to knick knacks, trinkets, silverware, household essentials, snacks (candy, cookies, drinks), cleaning supplies, etc etc!! Beware many of the products are entirely Japanese or Japanese inspired so the name/instructions/ingredients are also in Japanese. The only slight downside is that they didn't have enough cashiers (only 3) and there were quite a few customers in the store so the line was a little long. Since I really had to pee when we got there me and my gf didn't stay long.. but we would have done ALOT more damage to our wallets if we did. I LOVE Daiso. I still remember my first time at a Daiso store (in SF) and how I got sucked in and wanted to buy nearly everything! Needless to say I've been super happy ever since this Japanese $1.50 store has been popping up all over SoCal and OC. But, with a no refund/exchange policy, one must clearly shop selectively. Daiso is a great place for cheap thrills since nearly everything is only $1.50, and everything has that Japanese cute look. Compared to other stores, you just get a much more stylish collection to choose from. Fine, so I don't really need a small towel/sponge that looks like a slice of cake, but that doesn't mean I can't look. If I want to buy measuring tape, I can choose from a variety of colors (even if most are in metrics). I usually end up getting random things like false eyelashes, notepads, post-it tabs, all kinds of school and office supplies, bento ware (lunchbox and cooking/baking items), travel size containers, kid friendly novelties, kitchen knick knacks, and all kinds of other goodies that are ridiculously cute looking. The best tip I can give is to go frequently. That way you'll have a good idea of what they keep in stock regularly, because everything else sells out fast so if you don't buy it while you can, you might not get another chance for a long, long time. read more

I love this store! I always spend about an hour and half here perusing though all the useful (and useless) cheap trinkets and goods. It's all very cheap! Most of the items here are $1-1.50, unless otherwise stated (a sticker price on the item will state the price). The store is clean, organized and full of cute (kawaii) goodies. I'm especially obsessed with the home goods, containers and tupperware sections. Just like the 99 cent store, there are the usual traps of where something may not be worth the $1.50 you're paying at Daiso. With that being said, their inventory is pretty awesome, complete with Japanese uni-tasking contraptions that are so tempting to buy. With husband looking bored and breathing down m y neck, I didn't get the type of quality time I really wanted in here but I still got some pretty good shopping down. WELL you'll find many items here that are better quality than the dollar tree or 99 cent store. Some items are from Japan which is pretty cool since nowadays everything is made in China. I like coming in here to buy kitchenware. They have cool sake sets and other Japanese dishware (most dishes that you see Japanese restaurants use). There are lots of good quality glass containers as well (for those who like to bring food to work). You'll find many other items such as makeup, school supplies, snacks, lots of household items, and did I mention kitchenware? There's probably like 6-7 aisles dedicated to kitchen supplies! Overall fun store to browse if you're in the plaza. I like coming here after going to Mitsuwa. FYI: no refunds or exchanges & $10 min for credit card purchases. There are 2 separate lines, one for cash and one for credit card. The lines usually move by fast and if you buy any bowls or ceramicware they wrap it in newspaper to prevent from breaking/scratching. I've boughten lots of bowls here and they handle well in the microwave and are sturdy (I've dropped them before and they don't break). Just don't get carried away and buy a bunch of stuff just because $1.50 for it sounds cheap, cause actually some of the items in there can be found at the 99 cents store. School supplies, cleaning supplies, dishes, stationary, beauty products, snacks, bicycle accessories, pet accessories and more...you really just have to stop in and see for yourself. A few of my favorite items from here have been quite useful, I got a really cool net for the top of my bicycle basket, reflectors, and a back light. When it comes time to cashing out they have two separate lines to ring up at the register, one for cash and the other for credit. Really nice! I have been to over 30 Daisos in Korea, Japan, and the U.S. This is one of the largest ones I've seen, probably neck to neck with the one in Myungdong, Korea, or by Hakata station in Fukuoka, Japan. But it was definitely the largest one I've been to in the U.S. And its really nicely organized, and clean too. Too bad it closes a little early during the week. Now I dont have to go to Daisos in the bay area when I go there on business, or go to Daisos in Japan when I visit there The only things I couldnt find here were: 1) party poppers (but I think they only have this in Korea and in Tokyo) 2) fabrics (I only found these in Japan) 3) boxes and tin cans (there arent many variety here like they do in Japan) 4) disposable underwears The things I was surprised to find here: 1) plastic cases for A4 size paper 2) acrilyc boards - can be used as diffusers and such! 3) various hex tools, screw drivers (metric only though) 4) sooo many bento boxes and even nori punch outs 5) ice packs for your food (they dont sell these in Korea) 6) pretty good nail clippers (they dont have these in Korea or Japan) This store is definitely cool! There's a ton of interesting fobby asian stuff, and they have pretty much anything you can think of for a measly $1.50. They are all pretty decent quality too. Definitely better than your normal dollar store. I love that you can get the most basic things for so cheap. Love this place. Even though I don't always need something when I go in, I somehow end up leaving the store with random goods. Everything is $1.50, and they just have everything you can imagine from phone accessories, plates, bowls, cups, stationary, storage, to vacuum bags! I bought a bunch of vacuum bags here when I was moving and they worked wonders! Even bought eyelashes and eyelash glue here. Surprisingly, they are now my favorite eyelashes and glue! Oh my goodness, when I first walked into the store it was so bright and pink that my retinas caught on fire. There's so much fluorescent lighting! What is this, a large-scale marijuana farm? Fact: you can spot Daiso locations from outer space, including neighboring galaxies. Almost everything in the store is $1.50 and of pretty good quality. They sell everything from pore cleansing strips to drain stoppers, both of which I've bought. My female friends enjoy coming here for their cheap beauty products and ceramic wares. I finally decided to pay this store a visit, being as though I pass by it almost every day. Also, my daughter speaks fluent Japanese and she had been asking me to take her there to practice her skills. It didn't seem so crowded from outside, however, once we got in, all hell had broke lose. Nothing was in English except for some of the signs that stated everything was $1.50 unless otherwise noted. The store actually had some unique pickings. The other half of items were the same items you could pick up at the dollar tree, only the wording was in Japanese. You really have to rely on sight unless you know the language. The one thing that the Dollar Tree is better than Daiso is they carry more gift bags and party things like cups, forks, and table cloths. If you like asian things, particularly Japanese things, this is the place to go for cheap thrills. Many of the items are actually pretty well made, like their dishes. Most of the items are $1.50 (unless said otherwise) and you can get a lot of gadgets and housewares for cheap. Like 99 cent store type places, its not always a bargain. I picked up a 4 pack of doggie pee pads and, while super absorbent, were not that cheap. My 4 pack cost $0.37 per pad, while I could go to Target and get 50 pads for 0.15 per pad. They carry snacks, and that too, isn't a bargain. $1.50 for chocolate treats that are typically the same price elsewhere. Cheap thrills is how I look at it. To me Daiso is the Dollar Tree/99¢ Only store to what Target is to Walmart. It's a little more expensive, but everything is so cute that you leave with more than you intended to buy. This was my first time here, so my mind was reeling from all the awesome things you can get for $1.50. I didn't stay that long, which was probably a good thing because I would have done much more damage to my wallet. It doesn't help that everything there is super kawaii, so it just adds to the need to BUY ALL THE THINGS. I ended up getting some makeup/beauty products, stationery, and a mug for my friend. I came here for the first time today and I'm so sad that I didn't discover it earlier! I'm obsessed because the selection of items is large and great for the value. Only $1.5 per item?! It's so much better than the Dollar Store because they sell things that I actually want haha. I wish I came here first instead of paying 10x more for the same product else where when I was shopping for my apartment. Pink explosion in the store! The first time I went with my cousin, we made it a point to explore every aisle. It was exhausting (but fun)!
