The dish overall was good because of the other things served with it such as fresh herbs or the egg or tomato sauce. But if I order hummus I obviously want the hummus to be the best possible version of a hummus and this one was way below average in flavor. We really enjoyed this restaurant! Came here on a Saturday for dinner and sat indoors. The interior decor is trendy and they have their bar in the middle of the restaurant which was cool! I wish we lived closer to here because we would def go back regularly. For covid precautions- staff were wearing masks and tables separated by dividers. For drinks I got the Jaffa first and then the Mediterranean GnT. Both were refreshing! The GnT was strong and I really liked the flavor of the pepper corns in it. For food we ordered the mezze platter with beets (you can get it without the meat), muhamarra and whipped eggplant. All 3 were delicious! We also got the shishbarak and zataar potatoes. My family and I went to this Lebanese/Mediterranean restaurant and sampled the mezze platter with herb-infused dips, seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables, and fried cauliflower. The highlight of the meal for me was the shisbarak: mushroom dumplings with a warm yogurt, toasted pine nuts, and an earthy green sauce. My sister and mum who are carnivorous eaters complained of not being "stuffed to the brim" as they prefer; however I was comfortably satiated. I enjoyed the fresh flavors and the different plant- and herb- based sauces, though if you have meat-eaters in your party perhaps it would be wise to order short ribs or chicken to satisfy their needs. When we arrived there was a corporate function outdoors, so the atmosphere was quite lively and busy. Indoors the restaurant had a cool palate with tiled floors and Mediterranean-style decor. One note of caution is to wear non-slip shoes, as when my sister mum and I went to the bathroom we essentially slid our way down and up the stairs. Perhaps the restaurant had just waxed their floors, but elderly and young alike be cautious venturing to the bathroom. Overall, our experience was quite pleasant. The restaurant is reminiscent of Zahav in Philadelphia with dips, flatbread, and small sharing plates. Very nice looking restaurant with attentive staff. They checked vaccination cards and sat us. After confirming with the server that we weren't ordering too much, we had 3 mezze (eggplant, beets and chicken liver), Kubaneh, mushroom dumplings, and lamb shank. Once we started munching on the mezze and kubaneh, we knew we had ordered way too much. The mezze were all good but my favorite was the beef tongue which came with beets and eggplant. The mezze comes with bread which we guessed but weren't sure. The kubaneh is this delicious bread made up of tiny rolls with feta in them. I would have been happy with this as my meal. I could not taste the mushrooms in dumplings. The lamb looked over-cooked but it was moist inside. It was okay but I wouldn't order it again. We really enjoyed our dinner here, the service was exceptional and the ambiance (outdoor dining) is very nice. The food was very good, but the reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 was not every dish was great. I would say this feels like a NYC Zahav, but it is not quite there yet. We ordered 3 mezze, 4 small plates and 2 entrees for 4 people. If we had ordered less it might not have been enough food. For the mezze, we tried the harissa carrots, whipped eggplant and muhammara. The eggplant did not have much flavor, it just tasted like pureed eggplant. The carrots were good and the muhammara was pleasant, but I preferred preparations of muhammara I have had at other restaurants over this one. The small plates were the hummus, shishbarak, cigar and yellowfin tuna. The hummus was very good, as was the jerusalem flatbread it came with (we had to order an extra as one was not sufficient). The shishbarak (4 one-two bite dumplings) were also very good as was the yellowfin tuna. The cigar was pleasant, but did not wow us. It is one thin long cigar, so you don't get much food with that dish. I don't know if I would order it again. We got the crispy lamb (2) as the entree which was very good. There was a decent amount of meat on the bone, but for $38 each I was expecting a bit more lamb. Overall it was a very nice meal, and again the service was phenomenal, but for the price, you really don't get much food. If you are hungry you are going to be spending alot here. read more

If you're a wealthy person who wants a "dining experience" at a hyped place then, yeah, sure, Dagon might be a good fit for you. But if you want delicious food at an affordable or reasonable price or amazingly delicious food that might even be a bit expensive than Dagon will disappoint. It's just fine mezze in a shiny space at an overhyped restaurant that is way too expensive. If you care about food, go to Hummus Place if you're on the UWS or go to Taim or Zooba of Mum Mediterranean, or half a dozen other places. read more

All in all, Dagon is worth the uptown trek! Amazing flavors in each of their dishes. To start, we chose 3 mezze that came accompanied with flatbread: beets with horseradish yogurt , muhamarra spicy peppers, sasson chicken liver mousse with date syrup. Each of our choices gave us lovely palatable difference of flavors and textures. We particularly liked the chicken liver (even though this was the risky choice for us). Then we opted for a few small plates instead of the large entree; we had the Tunisian cigar, shisbarak, and sabich flatbread. Portion wise, this was more than enough to fill us (we even had leftovers to take home). Star of the night was the dessert! A lovely lemon Tarte with torched marshmallow top, strawberry coulis, and rosemary sorbet. Staff provided the best service kind and courteous; always topping off my water glass and swapping plates as needed. Interior decor is lovely, modern, and homey at the same time. While the restaurant was 90% full inside with plenty of folks opting for outdoor dining, I never felt pressured to or rushed to leave. Excellent neighborhood addition! Been to Dagon twice since opening and equally impressed both times. I've tried all the mezze and each had a unique twist! I don't usually enjoy liver, but the chicken liver mouse was sooo creamy and delicious! Flatbread is served alongside the mezze but I also highly recommend ordering the crispy and warm Jerusalem bagel. Of the small plates, my personal favorites included the shishbarak which were very delicate mushroom filled dumplings as well as the fresh salmon crudo. The duck matzo ball soup was a unique twist on the traditional dish with flavorful broth. You really can't go wrong with any of the small plates.. I've tried them all between my two dining experiences and each was delicious with beautiful presentation.. just depends on your palate and preference! For mains, the Branzino was excellent! I'm not often impressed by a whole fish, but Dagon crisped up the skin perfectly! I would also highly recommend both the short rib and roasted lamb. Lovely interior decor and ambiance! Service was on point and Dagon went above and beyond to ensure we had an excellent experience. We were served complimentary arak at the end of our meal. A lovely, classy Mediterranean restaurant in the UWS! I came here on Valentine's Day and we tried their Valentine's Day menu. We had a reservation for 6:45pm and it was already busy when we arrived - and then there was a crowd waiting to get in around 8-8:30pm! Maybe this was just a special case since it was Valentine's Day, but I'd consider making a reservation to be safe anyway. We tried their oysters, beet hummus, salmon crudo, peppercorn crusted fillet mignon, plancha seared Arctic char, chocolate mousse and rosewater pannacotta. I don't think most or any of these dishes are on the regular menu, but everything was delicious! As such, similar items on the regular menu will likely be great as well. I especially liked the fillet mignon and the beet hummus (and the bread that came with it). I was surprised that I enjoyed the hummus, since I don't usually like beets. Service got slow towards the latter half of the night but it was also extremely busy as mentioned earlier so it's understandable. Come by when you're in the area! read more

Great new med spot on the UWS with tons of vegan options. I love that instead of pita, they bring a flat bread, which is more like a baguette, with the consistency of the best street pretzel you've ever had. The space is beautiful and airy. Great design, and I love the open kitchen. The portions are not large, especially with the mezze and the hummus, but they are beautifully prepared and presented. This block is definitely on the rise, with a new equinox gym and tower going up across the street. I'm ok with sitting inside, though they have a large outdoor setup. We decided to go in since it looked like they had plenty of outdoor space for brunch, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! I got the Zucchini Frittata- I wasn't sure what to expect when I got a wedge of the frittata but it was the greek yogurt sauce it comes with that really made the dish good. It was citrusy and fresh and balanced the egg well. My friend got the shakshuka that she also enjoyed! We saw a couple of people taking plenty of pictures of their food so if you enjoy aesthetic brunch spots this is a great option with plenty of seating! The only reason for one star off is because the service was quite slow. There weren't many people in the restaurant when we were there so this was a bit confusing, but overall great food! read more

My first review for Dagon was for dinner; this review is spotlighting their fabulous brunch! We sat in their lovely outdoor dining space on a beautiful Saturday morning. Everything about the experience was perfect. Our server was friendly and the food spectacular. I ordered the virgin Bloody Mary, which was full of spices and flavors. Honestly, it was one of the best I've ever had. I appreciated the virgin option, which was at a reduce priced from the alcoholic option. Of course, my girlfriend who got hers with vodka was also pleased. I also tasted our other girlfriend's bittersweet citrus spritz, which was very good. We then ordered a bunch of goodies to split. To me, the zucchini frittata was the winner of the table. It was cut like a piece of cake, fluffy as a cloud, beautifully seasoned (with dill), sitting on top of labneh, and coupled with crunchy za'atar potato. Next, the spreads were delicious; we ordered the whipped eggplant, labneh (my favorite), and muhamarra. The fresh out of the oven bread, topped with sea salt and za'atar, that it's served with is spectacular. Lastly, we got the Jerusalem bagel. The bagel itself was fantastic (love all of the sesame seeds!); however, compared to the other dishes, this one was not as "exciting." Best example is the Israeli breakfast, which has -- not exaggerating here -- NINE different components. All of them were perfectly prepared and delicious. Service was prompt and accommodating, no issues with the ambiance. Portions of other dishes I glimpsed at seemed generous as well. Figure $40 to $45 per person without alcoholic beverages. The atmosphere of this restaurant is fun, energetic, and lively - a welcome addition to the UWS. We sat at the bar and so enjoyed seeing the skilled chefs quickly prepare an array of dishes. The menu has many options for mezze and small and large plates. We split the flash fried cauliflower and marinated beets to start. While the cauliflower was tasty, I think the presentation was disappointing as it did not look as appealing as we'd hoped. The marinated beets had an interesting combination of ingredients with horseradish and beef tongue that did not quite go well together. For the main courses, we split the crispy roasted lamb and chicken tagine. Unfortunately, neither was as tasty as we'd hoped - with the lamb being a bit dry and the chicken overpowered by the flavors in the broth. We went here on whim last weekend for brunch. The kitchen was FAST! And the food was so good. We sat outdoors (the weather was great) and I had the hummus, which was probably some of the best hummus I ever had. When I mentioned that to one of our servers, she excitedly told me that I had to come back for dinner sometime because the hummus on the dinner menu was going to really win me over. I can't wait - because if it's better than the brunch hummus, well, I might never recover. The food was absolutely delicious, in fact, this was the best food we had in NYC during our last visit. We ordered eggplant confit, chicken liver mousse, marinated beets, and muhamarra as appetizers and cauliflower, lamb cigar, shishbarak, charred octopus and branzino as entrees. Again, everything was super tasty and cooked to perfection. Yet, the portions were really small... When we finished dessert my BF suggested we go get some pizza :) Also, it was Sunday night and the place was packed, so reservation is a must there. Fantastic ambience- love the tile and the artwork. An inside table makes for a much finer dining experience. We loved the mezze trio (eggplant was the star), and the octopus and dumpling small plates- Turkish cigar was very very tasty. Crispy lamb was divine, and the bream had a surprising spice to it. Among 4 of us, we had 3 mezzes, 3 small plates, 2 entrees, and a dessert and we all left full and satisfied. Love that there's an Israeli wine on the bottle list- a first for me and it was very good!
