The food was okay, but unfortunately the service completely ruined the experience. Our waiter was incredibly rude, dismissive, and had a terrible attitude from the moment he approached the table. We were a group of four, and whenever we asked questions about the menu, food, or side dishes, he seemed annoyed and couldn't be bothered to provide basic answers. It felt like we were inconveniencing him simply by being there. At the end of the meal, I asked for his name. He responded with something like "Felico" (or a similar Italian name), then immediately asked for my name and sarcastically replied, "Karen." The comment was completely unprofessional, unnecessary, and disrespectful. Ironically, I wasn't even the person interacting with him throughout most of the evening--my friend handled the ordering. Yet his behavior toward our table was consistently unpleasant. As a business owner myself, I understand how important staff members are to a restaurant's success. One employee can completely shape a customer's experience, and unfortunately that's exactly what happened here. The food wasn't memorable enough to make up for the poor service, especially when there are plenty of similar restaurants in the city with much friendlier and more professional staff. Delightful middle eastern cuisine but there were a few things that irked me hence the 4 stars. The food was overall good but I am not a fan of places that make you order pita even when you order several dips. I get it... its not your average pita bread but come on! Also the falafel "appetizer" was literally just 4 falafels. To me that's a side order of falafel whereas a falafel appetizer is a larger portion that is more unique. The hummus and spicy feta dips were nice although it was not spicy. I also found the portions to be small. I did enjoy the cauliflower dish with the addition of slices of jalapeno. For larger dishes I enjoyed the Moroccan fish. Had I know the bread dome on this dish would be so additive I'd have skipped the pita bread. This restaurant has been on my list to try for a while, and finally came here with a friend for dinner. I fell in love with the elegant decor of this place, filled with light, flowers, cool artwork, accents of wood, along with a yellow, red and blue color scheme. There was a beautiful garden back area that was enclosed. The whole space was lovely with plenty of room and there was a warm, comfortable ambiance throughout. My friend and I shared the Greek Salad, Zaatar Fries, Taboon Bread as well as whole Dorade Fish with potatoes and watercress salad. The Greek Salad consisted of cucumber, tomato, red onion, and feta cheese with seasoning and olive oil dressing. This was fresh, crunchy, with a bit of acidity. The Zaatar Fries were perfectly crispy, and sprinkled with flavorful spices. The Taboon Bread was served warm from the oven. It was soft and tasty. Whole Dorade Fish was a sight to behold! Fried to perfection, delightfully tender, flaky, and well seasoned. The roasted potatoes were satisfyingly charred and full of flavor. I'm not a fan of watercress, so didn't care much for the salad. Even though I was quite full, I couldn't resist ordering the Silan (shredded halva) Sundae dessert with milk gelato. This also came with rice crispy brittle, caramel sauce and caramelized pistachios. This was light, creamy, just the right amount of sweetness and oh so delicious! I particularly enjoyed the Halva, which was sesame-y and wonderful. All the ingredients worked well together. Bustan My friend and I, both in our 70s and me with a cane, walked into Bustan on a Friday night without reservations. It was crowded so we approached the Maître'd to see if there was a chance of being seated. He said "at the bar" so I asked if he would seat us. His curt reply was "it's a bar. You just sit down." There were two seats available at the corner of the bar. The seat at the very corner was less than 12" from the Maître'd stand so when he was at his station the back of the chair was a matter of inches from him. I carefully crawled into my seat and found a spot for my cane and purse. A few minutes later two people beside us finished and we told the bartender that we wanted to move over. He cleaned the spot for us and I pushed my chair back a little to get out. I did not realize that he was in his station at that moment. As I got up and turned around he yelled at me that I had pushed him on purpose. He continued to yell at me in front of the entire restaurant when I said " you are the rudest Maître'd I have ever met". I was here in early November with a friend. We had been out for drinks at another place and then decided to find a place for dinner. It worked out as Bustan was able to seat us pretty easily at that particular time. It was my first time there (not my friend's first time) and I enjoyed everything. I had the Little Gem salad (very good) and my friend & I shared some of the Taboon bread with hummus. We later had coffee and shared a slice of chocolate flourless cake. All in all it was a very nice time and I remember the service being good and very attentive (maybe even a little too attentive at times, but I think that's better than not being able to get anyone's attention when you need it). Our flight was delayed 3 hours so we had time for a quick dinner. I've walked past here so many times and I'm so happy to have finally eaten in this hidden gem on the Upper west side. Located in Amsterdam between 83 & 84th this place has some amazing Euro-Mediterranean food. The Tuna Crudo was a tuna carpaccio with fresh thinly sliced raw tuna drizzled with olive oil, citrus - lemon,lime and orange, and topped with pistachios. The tuna melted in your mouth and the combination of citrus and pistachio just popped. The Schnitzel was perfect. My husbands family is from Austria and he said it was as good, if not better than his mothers, grandmothers and aunts. Now that's a compliment! It was served with a side of mashed potatoes that were so fresh and creamy. Service was excellent. The restaurant was busy, we didn't have a reservation and the hostess not only got us a table, but she came back to check on us during our meal. Our waiter was excellent. GRADUATION DINNER REVIEW This is a special review for me. I graduated from medical school recently and was looking for a place to celebrate with my family for dinner after. I have been to Bustan a few times in the past and have always been impressed with the quality of food and how consistently top notch my dinners here have been. I reached out to their events coordinator, Adriana, to help me plan a memorable dinner after my graduation. I cannot begin to express how amazing the whole experience was. Adriana worked with me with a lot of patience, flexibility, and genuine care to make sure everything went smoothly. From being very flexible with me confirming my final party size only a few days in advance, to helping me keep my cake in the restaurant earlier in the day so we could come straight after my ceremony. For the event, I was offered a set family style menu for my party which we customized, and Adriana was kind enough to make these beautiful printouts of the menu for our table. The staff was amazing and all made us feel so welcome, celebrated, and not rushed. My party of 8 was sat indoors and there was plenty of space for us. We ordered a couple of bottles of wine to start and then got all our food. The portions were generous and everything was AMAZING! Highlights for me were definitely their delicious and fluffy taboon bread with the spicy feta and/or hummus, the crispy falafel with tahini and amba, the perfectly roasted and addictive cauliflower, as well as the kebab halabi with nice lamb patties and grilled vegetables baked covered with a taboon bread. Both desserts were also exceptional with my favorite being the flourless chocolate cake that was so decadent, rich, but not too sweet and perfectly paired with toasted coconut ice cream. Everyone in my party was mind-blown by how amazing the dishes were and agreed this may be the best Mediterranean food they have had in NYC. We finished by having them bring out a cake I brought to take some photos and eat a few small pieces (since we were so full by then!) Shoutout to the staff for being so attentive of our table and being on top of replacing our plates/bringing out new dishes. I was very impressed by their ability to help pace our table's dinner at the perfect tempo. Truly an unforgettable day! I have always recommended this place to friends for dates or smaller dinners but now can say that I highly highly recommend this place for anyone hoping to plan a more structured special event with a bigger party and looking for reasonable prices + notch quality of food and service. The service was warm and attentive without being intrusive, and our server was happy to explain dishes and make recommendations. The atmosphere strikes the right balance between casual and special occasion dining. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable for the quality. We left completely satisfied and with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Our friends just bought an apartment on West 83rd, so we were able to take advantage of this awesome neighborhood. We were asked if Greek food would be OK, and although I recently had Greek food, just being with my friends was enough for me. Well, who knew?! The place is beautiful. The front part is narrow with a bar on one side and tables on the other. We were escorted to a back room which was perfect because we could talk and hear each other. The first part of the menu was basic Greek food, but then it got interesting. Food I had never heard of or had before. I think, between the 6 of us, we pretty much ordered everything on the menu. Our server, Gabriella, was an absolute doll! Even the servers who filled our water glasses and brought our food, were friendly. Everything was served, no mistakes. The hit of the night was the taboon bread. It came out looking like a charred hero roll, and tasted so incredible that you should add it to your last meal on earth. It was hollow. It was perfect. We ordered 3 breads and 4 dips. Spicy feta, tahini, lebneh, and hummus. My mouth is drooling thinking about them. The tahini was the smoothest, richest flavor I've ever had in a tahini before. The spicy feta dip had a perfect texture and spice, and was probably my favorite dip. The 700 degree cabbage was off the rails. I want mcapacious, Hubby ordered the smoked trout. It was SO much better than I thought it would be. For the main part of dinner, the table was filled with Eggplant Carpaccio, Chicken Milenese, Moroccan Fish in a bread dome! This was Greek food like I've never seen before! Please see the pictures for this dish, because there are not proper words to describe how incredible the Moroccan Fish was! When we were leaving, I was the last one out, and I had to pass the narrow area where all the staff was standing there eating their meals. I thanked everyone for their service, I told Gabriella that I thought that bread was the best I ever had in life until I tried all the other food. One of the guys there asked me if I wanted some of the bread they had. He pointed me to a plate with lots of taboon bread. 3 years in the upper west side and I only tried this place this week . I guess better late than never. I was craving for fried chicken but I know that my bf has been craving for Mediterranean food. I'm so glad I found this place as he and I couldn't have been happier . When I left work , the weather was gorgeous and I was happy to get a 6pm table outside . Unfortunately after having been only seated for 15 minutes , it started to drizzle but they were able to accommodate us inside despite being very busy . We had the spicy feta enjoyed with the two types of bread followed by the roasted cauliflower, trout ( with came with potatoes and parsley - delicious ) and falafel . It's been a while since I've found a good falafel - crispy on the outside , moist and well Seasoned on the inside . So we were in the city with the kids for the day and booked a reservation for 8:15. We ended up being free early and they were able to seat us at 6:45 notwithstanding our later reservation for which we were very grateful as we had a train ride back home for later. We were taken to the back and it seemed we were put in a room that was a bit off with a flower wall and a red awning giving the room a strange light. Part way through our meal the rain let up and they opened the awning creating a very nice open air patio which made much more sense for the awning that was pulled back. The food we had was very good. I will note the taste had a good deal of flavor and spicing. The drinks were great and we never had to wait for service throughout the night. Our appetizers were good though the hummus bowl was a tad small for the order, but very tasty. The Israeli salad was a first for us and the wife and I loved the balance which was acid forward. The kids said they didn't like as much but my wife and I were big fans. For the main dish, the chicken "musukan" was very good. Be careful with the long pepper as it does have a big kick of spice if you're not a spice person. The lamb dish was ok though the lamb kebabs were a bit dense. We ended up having leftovers of the lamb and the salad and I tuned it into an egg dish over a toasted pita the next morning and that was an amazingly balanced plate for those who like that sort of thing. This place was good enough that the kids asked specifically about when we could come back and both my wife and I thought we would love to come back if in the area.
