Very disappointing experience with The Hummus Kitchen - Murray Hill. On March 11, 2026, I placed a delivery order totaling $119.78. What followed was extremely unprofessional. At 7:11 PM, I actually received a call from the restaurant asking me to confirm whether I had tipped the correct amount or if I wanted to adjust the tip. This call was surprising. Later that evening when my order never arrived, I contacted the restaurant. The manager told me that the delivery driver, Israel, had delivered the order and personally handed it to me. He also claimed the driver entered the building at 7:11 PM. That claim is factually incorrect. At that exact time, I was in the building with security. We reviewed the security footage, and no delivery driver entered the building at 7:11 PM, nor did anyone enter 15 minutes before or after that time. In other words, the restaurant called me at 7:11 PM about the tip, yet later claimed the driver was inside my building delivering the food at that exact same time. When I explained this and informed the manager the call was being recorded due to the unprofessional tone of the conversation, the response remained dismissive and unhelpful. Because of the lack of accountability and the conflicting information provided, I have filed a complaint with the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. A missing delivery is frustrating. What makes this unacceptable is the dishonesty and refusal to properly resolve the situation. For a $119 order, customers deserve better. read more

This was our most pleasantly surprising meal of the entire trip. We were trying to dine next door but were ignored by our server so we left and opted for this place bc we were hungry and short on time. Turns out, it was probably the best meal we had on our trip! The service was prompt and friendly and our food came out fresh and quick. We tried the mushroom hummus which was delicious (if you call yourself hummus kitchen, you better have good hummus!!). This place is not for us. As a Black man who has dined at this restaurant multiple times, I can no longer overlook the consistent disrespect and racial profiling I've experienced here. I write this with deep disappointment, not only for myself but for every other Black patron who's been made to feel unwelcome in a space we are paying to be in. Every time I enter, I'm immediately assumed to be a delivery person. No greeting. No acknowledgment. Just pointed toward the back with a dismissive, "Pick-up is that way." Meanwhile, I'm dressed to dine, not to deliver. And I watch again and again as white customers are welcomed with warmth, shown to their seats, offered menus and smiles. I've eaten here enough to know the difference isn't accidental. What's worse is seeing this same treatment extended to every Black person who walks in the door. Not even a pause to ask if we're customers. No seats offered. No questions asked. Just assumptions, and the kind that sting. What's especially painful is that this establishment is owned by people who come from a community that understands the pain of prejudice and exclusion. That's what makes this behavior even more shameful. To my fellow Black diners, we deserve better. We are not "the help." We are not to be profiled or pushed aside. There are plenty of places in this city where your presence will be honored, not questioned. To the owners, your policies, your staff training, and your silence all speak volumes. Do better. For dinner, I got the braised chicken couscous. This was delicious! I was told to mix it up and try different things together, but I ended up just mixing it all together and I thought it was great! I got an espresso martini as part of the 2 for 1 deal. Very easy to drink. Had a shot of casamigos blanco which was the smoothest tequila I've ever had. There were olives and pickled cabbage on the house which provided nice snacks. We ordered baklava, freshly made in house. The spices and sugar levels were good. Our server, Oscar, was amazing. Their indoor and outdoor dining is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly.
