Looking for a good breakfast spot on the upper west side? Viand has you covered. We stopped in on a rainy summer morning and quickly found ourselves seated at an old wooden table with hot black coffee. Watching regulars mosey in and out, we ordered plate after plate of eggs, has browns, bacon, toast, fruit cups, orange juice, tea, and numerous refills of coffee. Each dish was prepared just right and hit the spot, satisfying our craving for breakfast eats. Viand is definitely a neighborhood gem - you should give it a try if you haven't already!

My students from the west side rave about this place, so we stopped in for lunch on a school trip to AMNH. Everyone enjoyed a huge plate of food, and the staff masterfully managed orders from the 9 of us. The booths were clean, tables wiped, and I enjoyed a delicious root beer float with a generous scoop of ice cream, as a float should be. Despite being crowded, the post-Covid transparent barriers kept the noise to a minimum. So for a party of 10 or 2, Viand provides ample goodness on all levels.

Viand tries to fill the space of cozy yet chic diner on the Upper West Side. While the food has some inventive touches on diner classics (and more than ample portions), it doesn't justify the price tag. We stopped in for a late breakfast/lunch on a Saturday and got seated right away: service was efficient for the size of the crowd. The menu spans the usual mix of omelettes, sandwiches, griddled goods, and more: she did an order of creme brulee French toast and I went with a grilled veggie panini. The French toast came out as four big slices, coated in coarse burnt sugar and filled with a custard cream; it was delicious without being cloying though the strawberries on the side tasted like they'd been frozen and chilled. The panini was solid: grilled eggplant + squash + peppers + onions with goat cheese on toasted ciabatta. The vegetables were roasted well without being overwhelmed with char

I love how Viand feels like a upscale diner, but the food is still pretty affordable despite the pretty vibes. Was able to walk in before noon without a seating issue although if you came after noon there would be more of a wait. - Lox Benedict - I thought this was a pretty solid benedict. The lox was half cooked, probably from the heat emitted by the egg, which made it an interesting texture to eat. I really appreciate the hash browns as they are slightly charred and were crispy at the same time. - Chicken Souvlaki - I was not the biggest fan of the chicken as there were some more tendon-y parts of the chicken. I would much rather get chicken schwarama from the streets. The fries were yummy though, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. - Huevos Rancheros - I was not the biggest fan of this, in a way I felt like this wasn't super worth my money as there were not a lot of ingredients on the dish. But maybe that's as expected from the description of the dish on the menu. Overall, okay brunch place. I think next time if I come I'll just get the benedicts, although I will have to say that both their hash browns and fries were excellent.

Had lunch here under a reservation with a group of 9! The restaurant itself felt kinda cramped with how many people were there. Had to ask our waitress for more silverware and cups because there weren't enough. Some food items took awhile to come out, but other things were normal. Food was pretty good!! The chicken was kinda small for the size of the waffle.

Size matters. Portions here are huge. Nice diner set up with hard working super friendly servers and staff. Easy to go here with kids, and they have lollipop treats. We arrived around 11:30 and got a table in 5 minutes, 4 adults and 3 kids. Within 10 minutes, the line was out the door. Great kids' menu; ours shared grilled cheese, big fluffy French toast, and nice pasta in butter. I failed to get a photo of Croque Monsieur special with tomato salad. Their egg options are good. Gyro and Cuban sandwich platters are huge and so flavorful, as is triple decker club. Fast paced, and they turn tables fast as they can. Clean and lively setting. Over the last few years, I've been here a number of times. Love it. Sandwiches now all over $20, yet sandwiches and platters are all humongous. Tasty. And size matters!

This spot is perfect for families who want as nice as possible of a night out. There's a decent kid menu, a nice alcohol menu, and lots of other food menus. Our waitress knew that we'd want to order kid food right away, which was right on, and she also kept asking if we wanted another drink (but not in a pushy way). The outdoor seating is a nice option, and there's some plant coverage if you don't want to feel like you're right on the street. I wish the kid mac and cheese didn't come out so hot. Yes, it was tasty, but maybe there's another way to make it for the kids. French fries were perfect. I didn't think the hot chicken sandwich special was so great; good idea, but the pieces didn't really mesh well together, and it was very hard to eat. I'll definitely be back! Thanks for one of the best nights out with my family (young kids) in a while.

I love a place with outdoor seating. I've been walking by this place for the past two years and finally decided to give them a try. The food was really good and the vibes were great. My boyfriend said the eggs Benedict was the best he ever had. It was absolutely delicious. My omelette was good but not the best I ever had. What I really loved was the homemade blackberry jam they served my toast with.

I don't think I have to much to say about this place; It got my attention because how busy it looked but afterwards I got really disappointed or maybe I just picked wrong with my order. I went with a group of 6 friends and each of us got different things. To be honest I think I was the only one that didn't like what I got. I ordered the huevos rancheros and I'll give them a 3/10: no flavor, nothing special + the eggs where on top of a tostada when they are supposed to be on a fried tortilla. The rest of my friends said their meals where pretty decent tho. Positive things: They have a pretty affordable brunch menu with coffee, juice or alcohol drink included. They allowed me to bring coffee from another shop They brought the food really quick Negative things: Don't get the huevos rancheros They brought the bill before we asked for it and I HATE when restaurants do that. We just feel like they were kicking us out ??

Usually BYOB spots struggle to create the right ambiance, but this place has something special going on. We may have had a bit too much fun because we literally closed the place down with the staff. The food was outstanding. I highly recommend ordering a few appetizers and sharing them at the table because that is what we did and everything was deliciously decadent. The burrata was packed with flavor and the basil foam was impressive. The octopus with potatoes hit perfectly. I already know I need to go back for the crab empanadas and the short rib croquettes soon. For our mains, my wife and I shared the short rib yucca gnocchi and the lobster and ricotta ravioli. Amazingly tasty across the board. This place delivered from start to finish and we will definitely be returning.

We were left ignored for over 20 minutes after seating. Finally when the waiter arrived for a drink order we had asked for a coffee to start. That didn't arrive until almost another 25 minutes and were told the bar area was busy. The food itself wasn't amazing or memorable. Ordered the cauliflower app- the sauce was too watery and didn't coat or stick to the cauliflower. If it was thickened it would glaze the cauliflower and you could actually appreciate how good it was and the dish would be so much better. For the mains we ordered the salmon burger and lemon ricotta pancakes. Both were ok but nothing amazing. The worst part was the speakers playing a happy birthday song that was extremely loud that even 2 other tables looked confused and disturbed by it. It played for well over a few minutes. I can appreciate a party being celebrated but not at the expense of the patrons in the restaurant. Also just a heads up- they add a 2.5% service charge to the bill. Only noticed this because the table seated next to us shared this and were upset by it.

Took the family to The Grand Feast yesterday to celebrate my birthday. Just the four of us. I did…read morenot tell the restaurant that it was my birthday, because I prefer things low key. We had originally wanted to go to Jacob's Pickles on the UWS, but surprise, no reservations available. I decided to find a new place in the general neighborhood, and I saw that the Yelp and Google reviews for TGF were uniformly excellent. So we gave it a try. The photos online are very flattering... IRL, the vibe comes closer to "hole in the wall" than upscale casual dining. There are only about 40 seats maximum in the whole restaurant. The kitchen is tiny- they could only handle one table at a time, although to be fair, we didn't have to wait very long for our order to be ready. But in retrospect, I understand why they maintain such appearances... because the food at The Grand Feast is so freakin' great, if they made the decor any more attractive, they would have lines down the block and there would be no way for the kitchen to keep up. The wait staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. Menu was varied and interesting and reasonably priced. Portions were generous. We started with a mushroom truffle risotto and Caesar salad, which we shared around the table. Both were delicious. The risotto was perfectly al dente, fragrant and cheesy and gone in about twenty seconds. The salad was crisp and fresh, and the dressing must have been homemade because it put store-bought versions to shame. For our main courses, I had the duck l'orange. Cooked a precise medium, tender and expertly seasoned. It was served with a butternut squash puree (my only complaint was that there was not enough of it on the plate), crispy tasty Brussels sprouts, and a sweet tangy sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. My son had the lamb shank- it was HUGE, and fell off the bone like it had been slow cooked for 14 hours. My wife and daughter shared the dinner special- a tomahawk chop. It could easily have fed three people (and possibly four). They were rhapsodizing about it, so of course, I had to try it for myself. I say this without hyperbole- I have dined at virtually all of the best steakhouses in NYC. This tomahawk blew all of them out of the water. It literally melted in your mouth. You could effortlessly cut it with just a fork. The ideal blend and saturation of salt and pepper. Served with two sides- a gigantic bowl of crispy french fries and those yummy sprouts. Even with two people sharing, and the other two picking, fully a third of it made its way home with us. And then... the surprise. I'm not sure how it came about. Again, I told no one at the restaurant that it was my birthday when I made the reservation. No one in my family called ahead- they didn't even know where we were going. Someone must have overheard our table conversation, or it was some arcane magic that was responsible... but a crème brulee with candles was brought to the table, and Happy Birthday was piped over the house speakers, and I was serenaded by the staff and patrons. I really did not expect it, and I was so touched by the gesture. It was a gift. Oh, and the crème brulee was divine. As was the carrot cake and chocolate mousse that we ordered for dessert. Even my coffee was great, LOL. A fantastic way to end the meal. Now I know why TGF keeps things so low key. I'm sure that the residents of that particular neck of the woods must know full well about The Grand Feast... and I'm sure they hold this knowledge close to the vest, because why would they want to risk having this neighborhood treasure overrun by outsiders? In fact, pretend you didn't read this review. Because I want to be able to go back to The Grand Feast again, and again, and have it be as amazing as it was tonight.

The service was still professional and friendly, but the food left something to be desired. Though it was a Thursday evening, the weather was not great, so it was not overly surprising that the restaurant was not very crowded. Because of that fact, the gracious hostess offered us our choice of a few different tables, from a larger booth to a two-top near the window. We opted for the booth that would give us a chance to look out into the restaurant AND to still see the Manhattan skyline. We decided to order some drinks, and I opted for an Espresso Martini, which was not typically something I would have gotten before dessert, but I wanted the extra caffeine! Plus, their version included a caramel cold foam, which enticingly made it extra creamy and delicious. In fact, it was definitely one of the best espresso martinis I had ever had. We were deciding to skip any starters, so we asked for some bread while we waited for our entrees. The plate of focaccia was decent and hit the spot, but we were charged $2 for it, which was not a big deal but also not appreciated. For my entree, I went with the Lobster Bouillabaisse. The broth was flavorful, but there was not much of it. In fact, the dish came with three sweet rolls to dip into the soup, but I could have lived with less given the limited amount of liquid in the bowl. The included blue prawns were good, but the Hokkaido scallops and lobster were chewy. There was also supposed to jumbo lump crab, which seemed to have been replaced by gritty clams. There were also leeks and Yukon potatoes that were sliced in small cylinders and looked fairly similar to each other. The potatoes were bland, cold, and under-cooked. Overall, it was not very impressive for $48. My companion's Prime Filet Mignon was of an unknown size on the menu, but arrived looking smaller than the typical 8-ounces. It was also over-cooked. He did like his mashed potatoes, though. For dessert, we decided to get the Apple and Pear Bread Pudding again, since that had been excellent last time and would hopefully be a redeeming feature of the meal, which it was. The sweet, caramelized brioche had been infused with cubes of fruit, baked, and drizzled with a sea salt caramel. We replaced the designated companion creme fraiche gelato with a scoop of passion fruit sorbet, which was less of an appropriate pairing, but more of an appealing variety to us. While Drift truly offered a stunning space with incredible service, they really could improve their culinary preparations.
