Felt a little guilty but that was their choice for me. Service was nice and everything was great. Water, coffee and then lunch. I've had smash burgers in Bellingham and this is the best for me. A wide variety of well prepared short-order dishes. My complaint is the cook's apparent disregard for public health issues by not wearing gloves while cooking. Otherwise, it's easy to see why this small, quirky, mom and pop restaurant is very popular. And, while crowded, they keep up with the demand with digital tools--the waiting list is accessible via a large QR code at the front door as well as menus via small QRs on the tables. Dad's Diner is a small homey spot full of locals who know each other by name. We wanted to spend some in the Anacortes area, and my friend and fellow Elite Erin H. recommended this place many times so we went to check it out. We came here on a Saturday morning at around 9:15am and waited about 15 minutes for a party of two. They do not allow reservations and are first come first serve. There is two hour street parking in the surrounding area. It's a small place with some booth seating and some tables. What they lack in the space they make up for it in the sheer amount of globes everywhere! I don't know the significance of all the globes but it's cool to see them all over the place. I ordered the hash ($16) with brisket ($4) and my girlfriend ordered the pork belly biscuits and gravy ($16) which was a limited special. For the hash, the potatoes were really crispy and I liked the horseradish sauce on it although I wish there was a bit more of it drizzled on top. The brisket was good and fatty and they definitely don't skimp on it. I saw many people raving about their biscuits and I see why because it was really buttery and didn't even need the jam that came with it. The hash is a bit simple though as it's just potatoes, meat, and grilled onions and I expected more than that. For the pork belly biscuits and gravy, it was a nice balance of saltiness from the gravy and sweetness from the syrup. I'm not a big fan of sweet breakfasts so I could've done without the latter but I really enjoyed the gravy. Overall it's a good breakfast/lunch spot in the Anacortes area. They are only open on select days and have limited hours so I'd recommend coming early or calling in for your order. read more

We were hungry after a 4 hour whale watching tour and decided to give Dad's Diner a go. We were traveling from North Carolina so decided to try something local. I had a veggie burger and my boyfriend had a regular burger. Both were delicious. We were confused by what "JoJo's" were, but the waitress was super nice and explained it. The reason I'm giving a 4 star is because they were out of basically everything I wanted to try. I went with the veggie burger instead of just leaving and going to a different restaurant. I am glad I decided on the veggie burger, it was SO good! Despite being out of things, turned out to be a fantastic lunch! Super awesome employees, super cool inside. Very disappointing lunch experience. Picked this restaurant due to TripAdvisor recommendation for gluten-free options. Ordered the basic burger with a gluten-free bun. Really good diner food and super friendly service. Great atmosphere, had a piano player, playing some light piano music. Really enjoyed eating here. My wife and I both got sandwiches. TLDR: great food, great diner vibes, great service. Can get packed quickly on a weekend morning. Went into Dads diner on a Sunday morning and were a group of 3 that was quickly seated at the bar. The Hash: I ordered it with brisket, scrambled eggs, and a biscuit. I think the hash and brisket overall for me is as a little under seasoned but with some of their homemade hot sauce, it added a lot of great flavor. The eggs were cooked perfectly and were well seasoned. The biscuit was crispy on the outside and more thick and doughy on the inside. It had less of a buttery flavor overall, but for good reason. The reason why I say that is the raspberry jam practically turned the biscuit into a great mini dessert with breakfast. It made it taste almost like a nice thick raspberry donut. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the meal. Overall I was very happy with my experience and would do it again. Even if I had to wait to be seated at the bar or a table. I had the smash burger, which was like a tastier, fresher version of a Dick's Deluxe -- the patty was beefy with lacy edges, burger sauce tangy/creamy, crisp shredded lettuce, melty American and pickle relish on a toasted bun. The restrooms were out of order but the staff member told me I could use the restroom across the street at the visitor center. Happened upon this place when we had a few hours before our ferry. What a happy accident. The coffee is hot and fresh, and the avocado toast is a meal in itself. We were lucky enough to sit at the bar and meet the owner, Fletcher. He's a gem of a guy, and I can't wait to go there the next time I'm in Anacortes. The atmosphere in this diner is odd but weirdly charming at first. The tables and counters are covered in globes, which i assume is to deter customers from sitting down due to COVID19. The walls are covered in maps and random pictures of men. My husband and I were greeted right away and took some time to browse the menu. We ordered the Western Pork Belly burger and the Brisket Loco Loco, 2 cupcakes from a local bakery and 1lb of homemade and cured fennel bacon. The gentleman who took our order was incredibly friendly and informative. He told us that they age their beef and cure their bacon in house and that they would try to accommodate any special requests, the best they could. We were allowed to sit inside while we waited for our food but no eating indoors is allowed. The more i listened to the gentleman talk to to his customers and the more i looked around at the decor, the diner's decor wasn't so odd anymore. The pictures of random men were all framed photos of dads throughout the years and they covered all 4 walls and the gentleman was speaking to his customers as if he were their dad. It wasn't until we got back to our car and looked through our bag of food to realize that this gentleman truly cares about this business and his customers. And as an adult woman who only sees my dad once a year, this restaurant truly hit home. But back to the food, the western burger was the best burger i have ever had and the shoe string fries were cooked to perfection. They don't have a large selection. But they are good at what they do. Portraits of people's dads on the walls of the restaurant. Really cool, seeing all the history on the walls. The also have a lot of globes spread out through the diner. Customer service is so friendly. We went here the weekend of Oyster Run early in the morning so I think we just beat the rush. I don't know what it would be like on a crazy day but it was relatively busy and it was getting busier as we were leaving. read more

I'm definitely not a biscuits kind of gal, but this place has some DARN AMAZING biscuits. They were soft but still had a little crunch on the outside. The gravy here is amazing and a must get. I recommend getting a hash (I got brisket which was amazing) with a side of gravy. The gravy is made in house and has so much flavor and slight kick without being spicy. Service is friendly and the interior is retro and cute. The only thing I didn't absolutely love was the white sauce on the hash, but that's because I'm not a huge horseradish fan.
