This place has a great vibe, located in downtown Anacortes we stumbled upon it while walking around. The guy who took our order was so friendly. This seems like the type of place where most customers are regulars, lots of people on a first name basis. I had a sandwich made up of flavourful pork belly pieces, sautéed onions and mushrooms served on thick pieces of bread with some sort of spread (maybe an aioli?). This was a knife and fork type of sandwich, hearty and packed full. It was served with thick cut fries. It took forever to finish my plate, but was so worthwhile. I am looking forward to my next visit to Anacortes so I can stop by Dad's Diner again. read more

Yum! I came here alone on trip from Seattle and my waiter was so wonderful it made the whole experience worth it. I wish I had asked his name- but he was the one whose laugh sounded like Seth Rogen's- anyways, he was genuine, kind, attentive, the right amount of chatty, etc., with literally every table. The kind of guy every restaurant wishes they had. Seriously. The burger was good but I just hope the owner reads this review and realizes their Seth Rogen-esque server warmed my heart by just serving me and having someone like that as the face of your restaurant is worth more than money could buy, so give him as much as you can. Ok passing through Anacortes on our way back from San Juan Island and did the trusty Yelp surf looking for food. This place was fab...totally killer vibe...pics of dads all over...globes...retro...art deco stuff...just super cool vibe. But hey...you can't eat that stuff so I'll get to it. The food was amazing as was the staff. I rarely enjoy coffee at any restaurant as I'm snobby that way and like it strong. I was pleasantly surprised from the coffee...to the scratch made biscuits...the gravy...brisket...pancake (big and thin...perfect for rolling up)...all of it. This is probably one of the best breakfast places I've been to...one of them...top 5 for sure!!! Tastiest breakfast I've had in a while! The Diner Dad served me up some chilaquiles with pork belly and a buttermilk pancrepe for the little one. Diner Dad called my daughter sweetheart, treated us like family and we really liked that. We had a fun round of eye spy with my little eye with all the globes on display. We visited during probably one of their busiest days, Shipwreck Fest. We were greeted at the door by either the owner or manager. He kindly told us that there was a long wait, we told him we'd have to wait anywhere else so we were ok to hang out and wait. It turned out to be not a long wait at all. They were able to seat us and get us fantastic food with barely a wait. 2 at our table got a burnt ends and mushroom melt special. They were huge delicious sandwiches! 2 others got smash burgers that were juicy and cooked perfectly! Despite the madhouse of people in there and every seat filled they made great food,had excellent service and we will definitely visit again next year when we travel to Shipwreck or if we happen to be in Anacortes! read more

Dad's Diner is a small homey spot full of locals who know each other by name. We wanted to spend some in the Anacortes area, and my friend and fellow Elite Erin H. recommended this place many times so we went to check it out. We came here on a Saturday morning at around 9:15am and waited about 15 minutes for a party of two. They do not allow reservations and are first come first serve. There is two hour street parking in the surrounding area. It's a small place with some booth seating and some tables. What they lack in the space they make up for it in the sheer amount of globes everywhere! I don't know the significance of all the globes but it's cool to see them all over the place. I ordered the hash ($16) with brisket ($4) and my girlfriend ordered the pork belly biscuits and gravy ($16) which was a limited special. For the hash, the potatoes were really crispy and I liked the horseradish sauce on it although I wish there was a bit more of it drizzled on top. The brisket was good and fatty and they definitely don't skimp on it. I saw many people raving about their biscuits and I see why because it was really buttery and didn't even need the jam that came with it. The hash is a bit simple though as it's just potatoes, meat, and grilled onions and I expected more than that. For the pork belly biscuits and gravy, it was a nice balance of saltiness from the gravy and sweetness from the syrup. I'm not a big fan of sweet breakfasts so I could've done without the latter but I really enjoyed the gravy. Overall it's a good breakfast/lunch spot in the Anacortes area. They are only open on select days and have limited hours so I'd recommend coming early or calling in for your order. read more

If you have a party over 6 people I do not recommend this place. They will not combine tables and will tell you to split up your party but they only have two tables that can accommodate parties of 6. We split our party and had a 45 min estimated wait... the first 6 went in and essentially the second party of 6 was waiting for about 90 minutes. We asked for water while we were waiting, and the staff rolled their eyes and had an attitude. I can't speak to their food, but we will definitely not come back to find out. read more

Otherwise, it's easy to see why this small, quirky, mom and pop restaurant is very popular. And, while crowded, they keep up with the demand with digital tools--the waiting list is accessible via a large QR code at the front door as well as menus via small QRs on the tables. We were hungry after a 4 hour whale watching tour and decided to give Dad's Diner a go. We were traveling from North Carolina so decided to try something local. I had a veggie burger and my boyfriend had a regular burger. Both were delicious. We were confused by what "JoJo's" were, but the waitress was super nice and explained it. The reason I'm giving a 4 star is because they were out of basically everything I wanted to try. I went with the veggie burger instead of just leaving and going to a different restaurant. TLDR: great food, great diner vibes, great service. Can get packed quickly on a weekend morning. Went into Dads diner on a Sunday morning and were a group of 3 that was quickly seated at the bar. The Hash: I ordered it with brisket, scrambled eggs, and a biscuit. I think the hash and brisket overall for me is as a little under seasoned but with some of their homemade hot sauce, it added a lot of great flavor. The eggs were cooked perfectly and were well seasoned. The biscuit was crispy on the outside and more thick and doughy on the inside. It had less of a buttery flavor overall, but for good reason. The reason why I say that is the raspberry jam practically turned the biscuit into a great mini dessert with breakfast. It made it taste almost like a nice thick raspberry donut. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the meal. Overall I was very happy with my experience and would do it again. Even if I had to wait to be seated at the bar or a table. The atmosphere in this diner is odd but weirdly charming at first. The tables and counters are covered in globes, which i assume is to deter customers from sitting down due to COVID19. The walls are covered in maps and random pictures of men. My husband and I were greeted right away and took some time to browse the menu. We ordered the Western Pork Belly burger and the Brisket Loco Loco, 2 cupcakes from a local bakery and 1lb of homemade and cured fennel bacon. The gentleman who took our order was incredibly friendly and informative. He told us that they age their beef and cure their bacon in house and that they would try to accommodate any special requests, the best they could. We were allowed to sit inside while we waited for our food but no eating indoors is allowed. The more i listened to the gentleman talk to to his customers and the more i looked around at the decor, the diner's decor wasn't so odd anymore. The pictures of random men were all framed photos of dads throughout the years and they covered all 4 walls and the gentleman was speaking to his customers as if he were their dad. It wasn't until we got back to our car and looked through our bag of food to realize that this gentleman truly cares about this business and his customers. And as an adult woman who only sees my dad once a year, this restaurant truly hit home. But back to the food, the western burger was the best burger i have ever had and the shoe string fries were cooked to perfection.
