We stopped here for lunch on a Sunday when visiting our kids. The place was quiet. Its got a worn in feeling. Cozy, worn booths, old wooden tables. Service was a little slow, but our server was happy and easy to talk to. We ordered drinks from an mixed drink, hot cocoa, hot cider, and sodas. All delicious. The soup of the day was a beef stew that come highly recommended. One of the kids ordered a bowl and ate every drop. She said it was really good. One kid got the pulled pork sandwich which was messy but delicious. She had to take off some of the pork as it was loaded! The burgers were also messy but delicious. Fries were plentiful and crispy. No one had complaints!

Roast Beef Pepper Melt!

Taking the Guemes Island ferry for the first time and gave BLA a try. The service was impressively fast. I sat immediately and had the Pepper Melt. I loved the creamy horseradish on the side. The sandwich kicked my ass and Al's I had to stop short. But everything was prepared fresh and hot. I'll be back next time I'm in Anacortes!

The Brown, as we locals (and semi-locals) like to call it, is an Anacortes stalwart. Craving a beer, a cocktail, a nice dinner, some good appies, and/or a juicy burger? They've got you covered. I've been coming to the Brown for, like, decades now. It's a great spot to meet up with friends, enjoy a cold one, and eat some yummy food. They even used to have a shuffleboard table, which they got rid of several years ago to make room for more tables. I still miss that shuffleboard to this day, and secretly hope that, someday, I'll walk into the Brown and there it will be. My favorite here is their corn 'n crab chowder, which is offered in a cup or a bowl. Trust me, you'll want to get the bowl. They also make a mean quesadilla, and a generous (and healthy) hummus plate if I'm feeling like lighter fare. Seriously, though, I've never had a bad meal here, and there is something for every mood. Service is quick and friendly, especially if you sit on the "bar" side (which is 21+). The restaurant side is slightly slower, but still not bad. I believe they also offer brunch here now, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Someday!

Super disappointed tonight same as last time. Usually a great place to go. Out of Jim Beam again and offered the replacement which was not the same or even in the same ballpark. Then ordered the Wednesday night gumbo special, and was completely different than the multiple times we have had it in the past. Different cook, certainly. Too thick, too much rice and no broth. It was spicy and had several shrimp, but missed the actual mark of gumbo. Service was very slow too. 4 tables around us asked when their food was coming. Incredibly different than ever before. Plus bar was not even that busy. Need to look at kitchen and cooks, need some help to get back to what they were. Same space same feel, ambient noise average, just not that busy. Should and could be better.

Food was okay. Service was good. Prices are way off for a place that smells like it was built over a septic treatment plant. $53 for 2 people without tip eating bar food. Wow.

The Grilled Cheese and One Piece Fish'n'Chips

I wanted to like this place and was looking forward to some seafood in Anacortes, but my fish and chips were so oily... the fries were good and my partner really liked the grilled cheese and chowder. The service was very friendly and quick, which you can always love. The inside was dark and bustly!

The service here is pretty amazing. I feel like it's been a while since I thought to myself dang this service is great! Food was super good. Cobb salad and tai chicken was 5 stars! Love the vibes in here as well.

Excellent food and service. Great atmosphere and live music for Sunday brunch. The 1/2 Nachos are reasonably priced and so yummy.

Are you now doing breakfast on the weekend?

YEs! It's really good! I usually get the breakfast sandwich or the Benedict! They have a lobster one which is awesome! Their biscuits and gravy is yummy too!

The entrance is delightfully well-done, and our faces lit up when we walked into the bar - intricately detailed and authentic enough that a '20s dress code could be reasonably enforced. We were seated immediately, and the cadence of service was immaculate: our appetizer came out just after our drinks, and the entrees appeared as we were taking the last bites of the appetizer. But I wasn't thrilled with my selections. The Rum Punch was served at room temperature and the jalapeño popper chicken sandwich was drier than the description suggested. My partner got the Jalisco Fizz, which she says paired well with the mushroom pasta, and really enjoyed the salmon deviled eggs. At $11-14, the drinks are priced well, but the food is overpriced. The jalapeño chicken sandwich was not a $23 sandwich, and a tempting lobster/shrimp roll was listed at $35. Overall Speakeasy Saloon is worth making an evening of. Dress up and sip on whiskey drinks in the low light with loved ones.

Having visited a few years back, the fresh face lift in this space was well done. Open, bright, and updated gives swanky vibes without losing casual comfortability. Sports played on the TVs behind the bar. Various staff members were bustling around, presumably with room service orders, maintenance, and transitioning from morning shifts. Despite their busy-ness each acknowledged us with a friendly greeting and smiles. We selected a low lounge table in the bar area and was promptly welcomed by our server. We asked for her recommendations on a couple of things and she candidly answered. We ordered Bloody Maria's, yogurt parfait, and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. We were torn between so many other options like the Seafood and Tasso Benedicts and the Cinnamonroll French Toast, it was hard to choose without our server's expertise. Her recommendations did not disappoint! Serving sizes were just right without overindulging and having enough to power a tourist's rounds through town. We are already planning a return to visit the seasonal Rooftop for cocktails, fresh oysters and happy hour. We took a trip up to the outdoor rooftop area which is on the new building, and the views are unmatched! Seeing as far as the San Juan Islands, Fidalgo Bay, and the tops of Anacortes DEFINTELY worth the short walk over while the weather was cooperating.

I really liked The In Between's logo and interior design, it felt like stepping into the Prohibition era. We ordered a drink each from the Seasonal Summer Menu and shared a hummus plate. The drinks were nothing extraordinary but pretty good, and the hummus plate was a great shareable snack for the two of us. However, the service was super slow and frustrating. The staff were overextended since they were taking on both the bartender and server roles, so it was very difficult to catch their attention. We ended up having to approach them while they were in the middle of making a drink after trying to flag them down for 20 minutes and failing. We were in a bit of a rush towards the end so this was not the best experience, but definitely a bar worth checking out if you're not in a rush and have a lot of patience!

If I were Sasquatch, I'd still be full after eating this. They practically put two fillets into one sandwich. The breading was flavorful, and the chicken was incredibly juicy and tender. I definitely appreciated the generous portion size. 4/5 Ahi Tuna - Deliciously fresh and simple. The tuna was lightly seared and served sashimi-style with a perfect rare interior. Being so close to the ocean makes you appreciate how fresh seafood can taste, and they deliver that here. It's lightly dressed with soy sauce and citrus to bring out the natural flavor of the fish. 5/5 Service & Atmosphere - The service was great, and we were seated quickly. (balsamic vinegar goodness) Menu is somewhat small but they have a great Chicken sandwich that is perfection in crunch, best batter Ive had (since Oak in Seattle. I think it originally was the sister to Spruce but changed owners.?) The other star dish is pork schnitzel, tasty all around and I love the capers, the red cabbage side, it's not too big, so you can finish the meal. So come here for a small plate and specialty cocktails or craft beer night or a full meal. The only underwhelming item was the side of fries that come with the sandwich was meh, but they do have decorated ones you can order as side that might be more tasty.
