We stumbled upon Union Tavern when we were in Anacortes for a whale watching tour. The downtown area of Anacortes is very cute in this quaint seaside town. To drink, I had the mezcal mai tai which was very tasty and not overly sweet. For dinner I had a twist on a French dip that had corned beef (forgot what it's called) which was served with the classic au jus. It was a $4 up charge to get a side salad which was a bit steep for what you got. Other than that, had a good experience and enjoyed the fast, friendly service and easy parking. read more

It's surprisingly hard to find dinner in Anacortes on a Sunday that doesn't involve fried food, Mexican or Asian cuisine! After walking out of a nearby restaurant with a disappointing menu, we stumbled upon this tavern. They were very busy on a Sunday night so service, though pleasant, was slow. The decor suggests a higher end tavern but the sports program on TVs and loud crowd were a bit jarring (clientele was mostly civil though). The food was good but not amazing. Portion sizes were much smaller than what I'd expect from a pub (and the price). The seafood chowder was flavorful and full of seafood but served lukewarm instead of hot. Shepherd's pie was comforting but could use more flavor. Both had tiny portions. It's possible that their signature meatloaf dishes are better, but for now, no rush to return to this establishment! read more

We split a Mac and Cheese dinner which comes with salad and then we also had a hot dog. We were both full and very satisfied. The food was great, the service was great, the atmosphere was casual with a good vibe and not too loud. Prices were average for pub type restaurants and we really enjoyed the date! So glad we made the walk to Union Tavern after a night at the Majestic Inn. We didn't want a menu full of friedness, weren't in the mood for Mexican (a rarity for us), and were looking for fresh oysters which surprisingly we couldn't find anywhere without heading to the chain restaurant nearby. Union Tavern didn't necessarily have the fresh oysters we were hoping for but had oyster shooters which were close enough! We walked into a busy outdoor patio, a few tables of 2-4 inside, and a few sprinkled bartop. Rachel the bartender was running an amazing one woman show with style and grace! We ordered a Wander Raspberry Sour and a hand crafted spicy margarita, both were the refreshments we needed stepping in from a hot day. First round of shooters were impressively stocked with diced cucumbers, capers and a little heavy on the cocktail sauce, but still good. Second round we ordered minus the cocktail sauce and used the first servings left overs. We also ordered the meatloaf burger, sooooo much better than it sounds, and a seafood chowder. Everything was delicious! Bathrooms were clean, ambiance was comfortable with soft string lights throughout. Great spot for a TON on tap, from ciders, sours to, IPAs and then some. read more

Um...wow. I drove up to have dinner with some boating friends at the Union and was imagining a dark, divey tavern (not that there's anything wrong with it). Instead, I was greeted by this light, bright, cheerful little spot right in the heart of downtown Anacortes. Everything was excellent about this experience. From the amazingly fast and friendly service, to the cold beers on tap, to the seriously delicious food. I enjoyed a pint of hard-to-find California Creamin' Ale on nitro while I dove into the menu of everything comfort food. It was hard to settle on what to get, but I eventually landed on their extensive hot dog menu and ordered a Seattle dog and a side of chili. My dinner companions got everything from a delish-looking Reuben dip to what is apparently the Union's epic mac 'n cheese. My dog arrived and it was monstrous, and heaping with all things that make a Seattle dog great. Including, of course, melty cream cheese. The chili was amazing, too - super spicy (just how I like it) and the perfect accompaniment to the hot dog. I'm not in Anacortes often, but when I am I'll definitely hit up the Union again! read more

Got into town late with a friend that knew the area and they said we had to go for the chicken pot pie. It is a tavern and it was getting late so it was fairly loud and rowdy but there was an empty table we snagged by the front. Got a couple of drinks and ordered our pot pies. I devoured it too quickly for a pic but it had a large square very flaky top on it. Filling was chock full or potatoes and veggies and wasn't in a heavy gravy. Dad and I were looking for a new place to eat and saw Union Tavern has great reviews. They weren't wrong and we can't say enough great things about this place. Tonight, the young ladies had to deal with a total prick. I've left several reviews for this place, all of them good. Tonight was the proof of humanity still existing. A young male patron was being a, for lack of a better word , dick. They asked him to leave before things got bad. I am a retired cop, and have little patience for disrespectful, disruptive pricks. This is purely a service rating. I like to explore food and drinks both and today we stopped by the union to have a drink and I have to say that without a doubt. The service was spectacularly awesome. I mean if you go to a bar and know what you want that is one thing, but we wanted to explore some different Scotch Whiskeys. Went here on a Friday night and it was slammed! There are only a few servers/bartenders so naturally things took a bit longer but quality was definitely not sacrificed! To make sure it wasn't a fluke I went back today but went for an earlier dinner. The food is amazing. It's a comfortable place to sit and hang out, the inside is 100% louder than the outside. Tonight we had the beer cheese with pretzel bites and it was so good. The chunks of jalapeños made it taste like peppers without being too spicy. The Mac and cheese with bacon is the best I have ever had. On a cool day it's the perfect thing to warm you up. The stand out of our meal was the Irish dip. I'm not a fan of corned beef but after trying a couple bites I will be ordering this next time! The service great. It's a little slower because there are so few people working but the people who are are friendly and helpful. 100% recommend to family, friends and everyone else. I was in Anacortes three days ago and I stopped into Union Tavern Anacortes because I noticed they had Reuben sandwiches on their menu (it was posted on the window next to their door). I'm a fan of Reuben sandwiches and take the opportunity to sample them from new restaurants whenever I can. I strolled inside and enjoyed the atmosphere and settled at the bar. The bartender greeted me and provided menus. I of course ordered the Reuben and asked if they offered french fries. Sadly, no. No fryer. So, I ordered a cup of chili to accompany the sandwich. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got my sandwich as the bread was NOT soggy!! I think that is the first ever Reuben sandwich I've eaten that the bread was not soggy. I was ecstatic! Not only that, but the sandwich was also quite tasty! The cup of chili that I had to settle for was also quite good. I did not regret ordering it. Delightful spot - I recommend you stop in for a drink and some bites next time you're in the area! There are a few tables in the front, one of which my bestie and I settled into after exploring the area. We both ordered a cocktail (A whisky mule for me, very tasty) and snagged some bites to share. High marks for the Beer Cheese Dip with Pretzel Bites ($11: Sauteed onions, jalapeños, and green bell peppers in a creamy white cheddar dip made with a rotating selection of IPA) and that dressing on the Sesame Ginger Salad?! Y'all should bottle and sell that. Service was spot on, the set up inside and out was adorable. I ordered the Mac & cheese with an addition of chicken. They added a good amount of chicken for the extra $3. It also came with a nice side salad. The drinks were great as well. Our server Malia was really friendly, and concocted yummy drinks for us that weren't even on the menu. I had a pumpkin spice hot buttered rum, vanilla rum hot chocolate, and some kind of pink hibiscus drink. At the end, I asked if we could have our checks split, and Malia said she had already been splitting them the whole time. So awesome!
