One of my favorite spots to eat in Anacortes (to be fair I haven't been to a lot of places in Anacortes). It's a restaurant located in town, so can park on the street. Wasn't busy for brunch afternoon on Friday. It's got chill, friendly coastal vibes and is an easy ten minute post-meal walk to Q'elech'ilhch Park. -5/5 Crab Cakes - why are crab cakes so small ToT I wish I had more -5/5 Steamers (clams) - delicious sauce, goes well with the bread. A little bit of sand in some clams, but not a big issue when eating. -4.5/5 Poblano Grits and Shrimp - only rated slightly lower because I'm comparing it to the delicious crab cakes and clams. This dish really rounded out our meal and helped it feel more filling. -5/5 Bread - normally I would not note the complimentary bread, but this was really soft and delicious. We had such a great experience at Adrift in Anacortes! The service was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. The crab au gratin was absolutely delicious and easily one of the highlights of our meal. Rich, creamy, packed with crab, and definitely something I'd order again. Very good food, but not good enough to be 5 stars. Slightly spotty service, but we were sitting outside, so I feel like that's just how it is when you decide to sit outside - out of sight, out of mind. Ordered a side of sautéed mushrooms, which was really really good, but they literally gave me about a spoonful. It came in a soup cup and it barely covered the bottom of it, which is ridiculous for the $5 upcharge. As with everyone else, I do highly recommend the crab cakes. It's excellent. read more

We were post whale watching and wanted something warm and hearty. Seafood was in our sights and knew we had to eat here. The chowder was a great starter and the Dungeness crab cakes were phenomenal! For entrees we ordered the Seafood pasta that had all the goodies and baked Salmon because you have to experience the salmon in Anacortes. Service was very sweet and our orders came out quickly. From the creaminess of the crab au gratin to the savory flavors of the sandwiches the food was unmatched by other restaurants in the area that we had tried on our vacation to Washington. On top of the amazing food, the service was quality. Not only did the staff welcome us and provide swift service, but they also gave great recommendations for things to do in the area and in Seattle as that was our next stop. We were passing through the area and meeting friends for lunch. We were all very pleased with our lunch here at Adrift. I'm a sucker for a beet salad so I immediately chose the Beet Happening salad. I added grilled shrimp as a protein. It was a very good salad with a plentiful amount of beets. The shrimp were a good size and a nice addition. The other 3 guests all chose the halibut. One guest was accidentally brought out salmon instead but opted to keep it rather than wait for another order to be prepared. He said it was very good and not a terrible mistake. The restaurant itself was nice and cozy. Tables are mixed with booths; a bit close together but not in a bothersome way. The bar area is in a separate room (entrance) from the dining area. Best restaurant in Anacortes! We started with the Dungeness Crab au gratin which was absolutely to die for! Generous amount of crab and cheese along with a baguette. You could also bathe in this. Just the best! My wife and I split the Garlic Brie Burger. 1/3 lb. hamburger with grass fed, organic ground beef topped with roasted garlic cloves, Brie, toasted garlic aioli, pickled red onions and lettuce. This was so disappointing. The menu looked great, the place was cute and smelled good when we walked in. Unfortunately the food was not good. The seafood linguine was fine--I had it without cheese because why would you? But our other dishes were substandard. The baked fish was overcooked, with too much sauce topped with cheese (again unnecessary). Crab cakes had too many and not-good sauces. Side vegs were over- or undercooked. Just ewwww. Went about 6:00 pm on a Thursday. They weren't too busy but as restaurants go, they move like they are busy. I got the oyster po boy which was a joke. The fries weren't even worth mentioning. Barely even room temp. Not a single one came warm from heat lamps. The overpriced $25 po boy had about 2 fried oysters and some ground up slime oysters mix. Adrift is a very popular restaurant! We walked in without a reservation for a 5:30 dinner before our ferry ride out to the San Juan Islands. At that point, there were already no tables left and instead only a couple of counter seats - which is actually our preference! The seats are situated right in front of the kitchen, so we were able to watch as the chefs performed their magic. We ordered two apps (one as an entrée) and one entrée. The first app took about 10 minutes to come out. The other two dishes took an additional 35 minutes to come out (so 45 minutes total) - small kitchen, limited throughout, and being super busy = slow food service, I suppose. Otherwise, the rest of the service is fantastic - the bottleneck certainly isn't the waitstaff! Oven Fries ($7.50) - The are cooked in a huge pile in the oven. Unfortunately, they aren't that great. They're very uniform in texture, including the crust, giving off a very leathery type of chew, like a desiccated husk of a potato. No fluff, no crisp crust, just dry and dehydrated. It's served with a garlic aioli that's not particularly garlicky, but at least adds some fat and creaminess to the fries. The fries are salted well and are tossed with some dried herbs, including parsley and rosemary. (3/5) Crab Cakes, Three ($32) - It looks like they shallow fry these for a bit and then toss in the oven to finish. They baked our serving until they almost looked burnt on the sides, in stark contrast to the next batch of crab cakes that looked golden brown. Yet, they didn't taste burnt at all, which is great. Good crust, plenty of crab meat mixed with a bit of binder and green onion. It's mostly thinly shredded crab meat rather than larger chunks as a more premium crab cake. The texture is a bit on the firmer and drier side, although there's plenty of sauce both on top and bottom. On top is a green guacamole sauce that almost makes the top of the crab cakes taste like fried tortilla. On the bottom is a generous amount of Thai chili sauce, very sweet, tangy and a little bit spicy. I wish the chili sauce wasn't there though - the taste is a bit overpowering to me, making it almost impossible to appreciate the crab. Instead, the only crab-forward bites are those in the center of the cake. I don't usually comment on the plating of the food, but this dish left a lot to be desired, since the sauce is slopped on and below the star of the show - the crab cakes. Let the crab cakes stand on their own with the sauces on the side, or at least not doused in the sauces! (4/5) Sauce Bercy Special, Salmon ($34) - The dish starts with a mound of risotto on the bottom. It's puzzlingly served cold with the rice being undercooked, exhibiting a hard, almost small crunch in the center of each grain of rice. The temperature is very disjointed with the rest of the dish, because the brocollini (cooked well) and the salmon are served steaming hot. The sauce on top is savory and a bit lemony and the salmon is cooked well enough, only slightly overcooked, being not too dry with a good flaky texture. The sauce is not warmed and instead ladled on top of the salmon from a metal container. (3/5) I have some mixed feelings about Adrift. I feel like for the price point, the food should be a lot better executed than it actually is. I saw the chefs working hard, so I feel like this might be a management problem. Perhaps they are allowing too many guests into the restaurant at once and/or have too large of a menu, requiring too much time per dish in the extremely small kitchen. A small, casual restaurant focusing on local produce and manufacturers. The small space was packed but I sat at the counter and watched the chefs move quickly filling all the orders streaming in. I had the steamed mussels and clams in a red curry sauce, mashed sweet potatoes with coconut milk, kale with garlic and leek, and finished it off with vanilla ice cream with stout hot fudge sauce. We arrived in Anacortes a bit late, so searched for recommendations on Yelp for late serving/pet friendly. The reviews for Adrift were solid. We were not disappointed. The super friendly & efficient servers set the tone. Our server was well informed about all the dishes and offered samples of wine before we chose a bottle. Our group of 3 had and tgoroughly enjoyed some of the best crab cakes I've had served with 2 delicious sauces. Light, crispy and full of crab. Clam chowder was creamy but not heavy and nicely full of veggies and clams. The fried oyster dinner was a hit as was the chiopinno, seafood stew. I came here a few weeks ago with my family. We had a reservation and were meeting the other half of our party who had already arrived before us. Apparently we came through the wrong entrance, but as we were walking over, we saw our table and our families stuff. I don't know if it was the head kitchen man or something, but we had to go "check in with him" and he was incredibly rude and was mad that we didn't check in the right way. Our server ended up coming over and apologizing for the man snapping at us. Other than the rude "welcoming", the food was good, and our server was very nice. My bf had had a fried oyster/ on a hamburger years earlier her was was dying for one. Even though it wasn't on the menu they did it for an up charge. Although the cook forgot them and we had to send it back the first time. It's the only reason I took a star off. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive.
