We enjoyed our first time here last week. Wanted to bring our close friends to experience what we did. We ordered Nell's bread, labneh, truffle fries, salade nicoise, Dungeness crab pasta, spaghetti polpetta, bolognese, crème brûlée, vanilla ice cream and licorice ice cream, nitro espresso martini, and lots of cocktails and soda. We all left completely full and satisfied. They gave us a table next to the water front window. Last night was perfect in every way possible

This is probably our 5th time to Nell Thorn and every time it is a great experience. The food is always well executed and the service is always great. Great atmosphere as well. Definitely one of the best restaurants north of Seattle.

Nell Thorn Restaurant, La Conner, WA - August 12, 2025 We sat on the patio with our dog Sophie. Our server's name was Melissa. She fell in love with Sophie. We didn't go inside of the restaurant, but outside looking in looked nice. The outside patio is right on the waterfront and it's enjoyable to watch boats go by. We split a wage cheese burger with a salad - $2 split fee. I ordered a house made ginger beer and my wife got a tasty glass of Benziger Running Wild Chardonnay. Everything was dedelicious.

Oh, how I wish the food rated as highly as the service and atmosphere! We visited for a Tuesday lunch. Perhaps the kitchen wasn't well staffed? Loved the setting, the view and the parking. The server was very pleasant. I asked if each couple could get a check. Then ordered the truffle fries for the table as an appetizer. The fries were ok. The aioli tasted like plain mayo, and there was not a hint of truffle to be found. Very disappointing. Do they use truffle salt? Truffle oil? Who knows, you could taste nothing. Our friends each tried a pasta. The crab pasta was so very salty she couldn't eat it. Additionally she thought there wasn't much crab in the $39 lunch dish. We were more than half way through our entrées when the server stopped by. She offered to have another portion made for her with less salt. My friend declined that offer. The other pasta ordered was the bolognese, and they liked the flavor but thought the pasta too al dente to enjoy. I had the large ceasar salad. The best part of it was the very crispy little gem romaine. It was treated very well. However, it had no real flavor. It tasted like a salad tossed with mayo and parm. Garlic? Anchovy? I did get 3 croutons in that large salad. My other had the wagyu burger. He thought it was cooked well to order, but had a hard time keeping it together as he ate it. He paid extra to have a side salad instead of accompanying fries. Unfortunately, he chose the ceasar dressing and had no interest in it after the second bite. Btw, when we got the checks, the fries were spilt between the 2 bills. We left it that way instead waiting for new checks. But I thought I was pretty clear when I asked for separate checks that I was ordering that item for the table to share as an appetizer. I expected it to be on my check.

I've been going here for the last five years and somehow Nell Thorn has leveled up! The halibut was better this time than anytime before and believe me...that's saying a lot. This restaurant has been my favorite place this side of the Mississippi for years! Tonight, every single thing has been improved upon. The bread, phenomenal. Crunchy crust but a perfect texture on the inside. The oysters were cold, fresh, and shucked to order. The halibut was pan seared perfectly golden with a béchamel, served over Meyer lemon risotto. This dish could not be more balanced with the addition of the sweet peas. The ribeye is as perfect as always. Superb cut of meat, prepared perfectly, with a demi glaze and seasonal vegetables. To cap the evening off, the decadent cheesecake and huckleberry compote provided a rich and delicious "not overly sweet" combination with the perfect compliment of whipped cream. The crème brûlée boasted a creamy custard and perfectly burnt sugar top layer. Service is always impeccable. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who have been there for years. Ambiance is quiet. Nice but not formal, and very well decorated. I don't know how they keep getting better, but Nell Thorn has once again knocked it out of the park.

What a lovely experience! I went here on a Friday night and was a able to make a sunset reservation the same evening. We were seated outside and once it got a little chilly, our server was able to move us in, which was nice. We got the hibiscus tea, which was really strong and had a cinnamon spice to it. I loved it! The star of the show was the polenta. WOW! So crispy with a wonderful creamy sauce over it. Such a wonderful starter. Both of us got seafood salads and they were pretty good. Didn't blow our minds but definitely filled us up and had great local ingredients. We loved the vibe and felt like this was a lovely option for our dinner out in La Conner!

Cute sea-town restaurant featuring fresh local grown food. Sitting on a doc that leads out to the sound. Service was great, got the cook wrong on the burger we ordered, they were quick to make it right.

For starters, we ordered the artisan bread, a dozen oysters, and the beet salad. As someone who bakes and sells my own artisan sourdough, I was underwhelmed by the bread. I liked the touch of truffle they add to it but it needed salt. And it also needed to be on the table well before the 35 minutes we waited for it. The oysters were also not very memorable. I can't remember what one of the varieties was, but they were brinier than I care for but that's just a personal preference. The kumamotos were the TINIEST oysters I've ever seen. I've eaten my share of kumamotos and I know Japanese oysters are generally smaller and sweeter than other varieties (which is why they're my favorite) , but I'm not exaggerating when I say they were the size of quarter. I also didn't like the frozen mignonette they served as an accoutrement. It didn't seem frozen--it spread like jam. It didn't really taste like vinegar or shallot like mignonette should. It was just not very good. The beet salad was EXCELLENT. The chèvre was generous, the bitter micro greens tasted great with the beets and chèvre. It was well seasoned. We devoured it. For entrees, I had the dayboat scallops and my husband had the duck leg. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the leek risotto was very tasty. I'm not really sure what I was supposed to do with the pickled lemon on my plate. I tried to eat a small piece with the other elements and it was so overpowering that I left the rest on my plate. Now let's talk about the protein--my $52 scallop dish came with THREE scallops. Not even whole scallops as I'm pretty sure they were cut in half to cook more evenly. Three small 1/2 scallops and two cubes of pork belly. For Fifty-two dollars. My husband enjoyed the duck, but again, the portions were disappointing. $230 later, we ended up going through a drive through because we were still hungry. Unlikely we'd return after such an expensive meal left us so unsatisfied.

The cafe was very busy when we arrived and had to wait about 20 minutes for an open table out on the deck. Due to how busy it was, I had high hopes that the food was good. Unfortunately it felt more catered to the one and done tourist - take their money with over priced mediocre food that certainly did not command either aesthetics or taste. What we ordered: 1. Fried calamari $18: this was the smallest portion on an appetizer plate with three calamari rings and a handful of what appeared to be minuscule tentacle pieces heavily battered to give the dish the appearance of "more". Bland and oily - nothing really outstanding here. 2. Captain's Platter $28: this was the most expensive item on the menu. I ordered it hoping that at least quantity wise it would be satisfying. It came with one fried piece of cod, one fried piece of halibut, four fried shrimp and fries. I have never eaten more bland fries in my life. They weren't even crunchy but soggy with oil as they laid under the fried fish, which likely was hurriedly plated on the fries without letting the oil drip off. The fish was overcooked for sure - the cod was so small that I was honestly offended. The shrimp - undercooked. 3. Strawberry lemonade $5: standard, on the sour side. The only pleasant thing I have to say is that the hostess and waitress were very sweet. They were definitely understaffed and I felt badly for them so I tipped well. But I would not go back and do not recommend - unless you like to waste your vacation money on this tourist trap.

The first was my birthday last year, chosen by a friend (I'd never heard of it). This year I was asked where I wanted to go. I did not hesitate to say here! I couldn't be anything other than delighted in my decision--from the pleasantness inside, the wonderful view from our window, the delightful staff and the incredible food and drinks, this place is wonderful. Lucky me that my birthday was on a Wednesday so I could be totally influenced to have oysters-on-the-half shell due to a generous Wednesday night special. I do love raw oysters--and these were so tiny and briny and so incredibly good, I could have eaten five dozen! (I am kicking myself for not finding out what kind they were, but no matter. I would be happy with any they are serving here, I am sure.) I had already planned on having the Oysters Rockefeller (known here as Manor Rockefeller), and so, despite having just downed some oysters, I went ahead anyway and am glad I did! They were wonderful. And there was no real reason for me to pause for a moment in my decision, having already had oysters, because these were soooooo different. It was almost like eating a delicious oyster casserole in a shell. The Mediterranean Mussels were wonderful! (Notice, I was having a dinner of appetizers...) The broth they came in was beautiful (and drinkable, if one were so inclined). I loved the surprising tastiness of the Mama Lil's Peppers swimming around in it. At first I wondered if they would be too hot and compete with the flavor--overwhelming it--but no! Not at all. They were a perfect and flavorful touch. Absolutely wonderful. (And having said that, I know that "pepper heat" is an individual thing--I can tolerate a goodly amount, fyi--I just didn't taste these as hot at all.) Our server, Drew, was immensely helpful (and always charming!) He paired our food with a delicious wine. I guess we would assign my bowl of clam chowder to the dessert category--very thick and creamy--along with a lovely after-dinner cocktail, made by the wonderful and delightful bartender, Sherry. She made me a lovely mocktail to start--I asked Drew to have the bartender just make something up on a whim. It was pretty, colorful and delish with what in it, I have no idea. But, not only was it delectable, it was a vision! All festive and fuchsia, with a "bartender's cherry," and a hot pink umbrella. When I learned Sherry made it, I was so happy because I remembered her from last year--very skilled and very fun to chat with. A wonderful birthday--I highly recommend the Manor.
