The town of Anacortes has a population 17K+ the inside of the diner is full of world globes like the kind you see in grammar school. The owner collects them. There's one bathroom which is a good size but you have to wait in line and look at all the posters of performers and shows that's come to the area. I ordered the Dad's smash burger. Hubby thought his fried chicken burger was moist. My smashed beef patty was good as well as the bun. But it had lettuce only and way too much mustard in it. A quick comment about my food preferences, if I am ordering a burger, I don't like big half raw burgers that tend to be what restaurants serve. Stopped here on our way to Anacortes Ferry Terminal. This definitely is a must stop. Nonstop locals in and out of this place. Has a diner / cafe feel with a ton of pictures on the wall. And lots and lots of globes. Meant to ask about the globes but forgot. My wife and I split the Pancrepe (the size of a small manhole cover) and the Avocado Toast 2.0. Pancrepe light and tasty and the Avocado toast on a slice of focaccia with bacon and 2 poached eggs. Focaccia was crispy on the surface yet wonderfully soft on the inside. Prefer this over a piece sourdough toast any day. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. The young lady today especially helpful. Oh and try their 3 hot sauces. I bought two of them. I was not prepared for how good they were. The ribs are smoked at their sister facility but they give them a flash fry to crisp up the ends. I've never had ribs like that before and I'm sold. They were still tender and flavorful. No grease from frying. It's a clever way to recreate burnt ends! The smash burger was done classically. Some relish and mustard, good crisp on the meat, and a soft bun. You can't go wrong. Also they offer fries too ways. Shoestring or jojo's. I spotted the rice bowl and couldn't choose between the pork belly or the spare ribs so I asked the waitress and she definitely recommended the spare ribs. The spare rib rice bowl did not disappoint! It was well seasoned, tender, aioli added such a nice touch. The broccolini was cooked very well. Next visit, I'll ask for more aioli to dip the ribs in. So good! My bf got the Oklahoma fried onion burger. It looked so good with the ooey gooey cheese. The onions were cut quite thick but overall good flavor. The potato joes were not cooked and greasy to. They were busy and it took awhile to get my order. The wait staff was dubious in their appearance . We came in after we had finished up our whale watching tour in the nearby marina. It was around noon on a Saturday but we didn't have any trouble finding parking, and we sat at the bar. I had the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs/American cheese. I loved the fact that they offered a half portion option because I can never finish my meal and can't take leftovers when traveling. The biscuit was not a traditional southern-style flaky kind, it was more dense and chewy but in a good way that I enjoyed. Came here from Oak Harbor for ours son's 4th birthday breakfast and it was AMAZING! We've been here a few times before but it's been awhile. Our server was awesome and attentive. We don't often get service like this anymore, full coffee cups and full water cups the entire meal. Another server brought a little toy to keep our son entertained. The food was amazing, so filling and so tasty! The schnitzel was crispy and the potatoes were super crispy which I love! The amount of food for the price is spot on. I made a trip from Oak Harbor to Anacortes specifically to eat at Dad's Diner because I mentioned going to Anacortes to get some lunch somewhere and the person I was talking with enthusiastically suggested I try Dad's. So, I decided to give it a try and was very happy I did so. There is a real diner feel to the atmosphere, complete with counter seating and chalkboard menu. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The pulled pork sandwich was suggested during the conversation about going to Dad's, but after reading the menu I decided on the Cuban sandwich because I really like those sandwiches. This Cuban was a little different because the meat was chopped and mixed with a tasty sauce. I still thought it was very good and didn't have any issues with it. The sandwich included jo-jos (some call the potato logs) that were coated in a rub. I thought they were cooked to perfection and tasted great. I am a fan of spicy food and couldn't resist trying the house hot sauce that they call "Badassco Hot Sauce". I asked the server about the sauce and was told there are two versions. One is hotter than the other. I tried the hottest version that included Scorpion peppers in the ingredients. It was very spicy indeed!! read more
