This place is awesome. Super friendly folks and airstrip onsite makes it a convenient stop for pilots.

    Blackened Oysters

Absolutely outstanding food. The owner was very responsive on Facebook and happens to be a fellow pilot. He had recommendations of the blackened oysters which are insane and could probably finish 3-4 orders as an entree. Also had the BBQ crabs, and wife had the Bangin BBQ shrimp! It was all gone by the time we got done with it. The best part is if you're a pilot with a plane, there's a nice parking area adjacent to the car parking lot west of the north end of the grass runway. That runway is easily one of the best grass runways I've landed on. Very smooth and manicured and same goes for the parking area. Mind your prop blast taking off to the south on runway 21. I landed to the north on runway 3. Absolutely can't wait to come back. Most importantly, aside from being able to fly in, the prices were reasonable and the service was outstanding. We can't wait to come back. Thanks to the team at DI's. Y'all have another fan.

Onion Bayou Blossom - Be prepared these things are HUGE!

This place always shows Southern Hospitality! The seafood is ALWAYS AMAZING! I always choose from a variety of these every visit because no matter what I order, the dish tastes great. This restaurant is probably the most successful true, mom-and-pop Cajun restaurant that is truly authentic. I've uploaded a photo of the Bayou Onion Blossom - Be prepared these things are HUGE! They're definitely ordered to share. The raw oysters are always good. The BBQ blue crabs might be my favorite thing to order during season. They're not what you would think though! They're not covered in bbq sauce at all. Just think of them as extremely seasoned crabs cooked on a pit (I'm assuming a pit). Any of the boiled seafood options are always great! The seasonal boiled crawfish is always well seasoned full of spicy goodness and boiled well. I've recently tried the BBQ Oysters due to the previous limited menu, and it surprised me how amazing they were!

If it's barbecue crabs you are looking for, you found the right place! My first time eating barbecue crabs and they were awesome! Friendly owner and staff, definitely worth the drive and prices are good too!

    Blueberry bread pudding - delicious

My family and I really enjoyed the live band -- The Cajun Stompers. They even let my little son practice playing the spoons and the triangle. As far as the food goes, I didn't care for the boiled crawfish; it was too dirty and gritty. I ordered a ribeye with etouffee and it was great, perfectly cooked. Blueberry bread pudding had a pleasant almond flavor and was a great way to finish the meal.

This is my best friend's family's favorite Cajun restaurant. A little detour from I-10 on the way from Houston to Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, it's in the middle of nowhere amidst crawfish farms and rice fields. The staff is so small town and cute. Super friendly. Everything is available on the dinner menu for lunch except, unfortunately, the boiled crawfish. Fried crawfish, yes, but not boiled. On nights, they have live music and dancing and such as well - it's a pretty popular place. Our waitress told us about it (even though my best friend, who took me there, already knew) and said that they could open the sliding doors in front of the stage so we could take a look if we wanted to. We said that was okay, but I half expected to pull away the wooden "curtain" and find the Chuck E. Cheese/Showbiz Pizza robotic animals at their instruments. :P The fried crawfish was lightly crisp and addictive, as were the fried okra. The charbroiled oysters were huge (in size and in number) and came swimming, out of shell, in a lemony butter sauce with more butter to dip them in. They were so rich and there was so much of it that even with us helping, my famished friend could not finish them. A shame. Actually, none of us could finish all our food. Healthy place this is not. But for authentic no-frills country Cajun food and hospitality, this is it. And for locals' nightly entertainment, there is no other.

On our last visit, everything was pretty salty. I ordered the prime rib melt, but was very disappointed. Even the gator bites didn't taste like how I remembered them. The boudin balls were the saving grace. They were large (in comparison to the other boudin balls I've previously had) and very tasty. The sweet potato waffle fries weren't bad either. After walking past the kitchen and seeing a bucket of food that appeared to be etouffe sitting on the floor with no lid on it, a cardboard box of baked potatoes next to it, and see the waitresses spend more time circling up to gossip than actually paying attention to their tables..... I will never waste my money in this establishment again. Go try Big Thickett BBQ or another local spot in town. Watching the unsanitary practices by a waitress named Kaitlyn, who seemed to be in charge, and the laziness of majority of the group gave me enough reason to never waste my time having a meal here again.

It reminded me of the kind of restaurants I grew up with as a kid in a small town. Just a simple, quaint little spot on the side of the freeway. We've been there twice now, and the food is great. We pass it all the time on the way to Coushatta in Kinder, and now we're kicking ourselves for not stopping in sooner. The vibe, the people, the food--everything just feels right. The whole place feels like it's straight out of Mayberry (for the younger folks, ask someone older and they'll tell you). My wife and I love to people-watch, and I swear we saw the pastor chatting with parishioners, the mayor and his wife shaking hands with folks, neighbors catching up on the latest gossip, and the PTA crew laughing in the corner. It was all just too perfect. The food is cooked the way it used to be in the old days, and it really brings back memories. Don't get me wrong--the restaurant itself is a normal, modern stand-alone building--but the feel inside, with the vibe from the waitresses, the customers, and the food, just exudes this wonderful old-time country charm. Allyssa was our waitress the last two times we went, and she's absolutely adorable. She's got the sweetest country twang and a natural charm that makes you feel right at home. She's very attentive, too. We had the fried pickles, the catfish dinner, and the fried shrimp. The iced tea is always fresh. They close at 2 on Sundays, so get there early for the freshest food. I'm no food critic, so I can't break down all the flavors for you--but I can tell you everything was good, and we left with big smiles on our faces. We'll definitely be back.

Babineaux's Cafe definitely met the criteria, it's definitely a part of the local history and culture. The exterior looks a little worn and the parking well it's random to say the least I think the locals here park wherever they feel comfortable and that's okay there's plenty of options. We were greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we walked in and found a seat without a wait although the place had already began to fill for lunch service. There's a lot of standard fare on the printed menus but my eyes went directly to the daily specials handwritten on the chalkboard which changes daily. The staff here is so efficient and quick to describe the specials and grab your drink order and of course they have freshly brewed sweet tea. After looking over the board I could not resist the home cooking option, a perfectly fried pork-chop, green beans, corn and of course a healthy portion of rice and gravy, it was outstanding so much like my momma made, we also ordered a club sandwich on toast, no frills just down home deliciousness. This is definitely a gem in the community and a must try if you want a taste of the local culture and to experience the unmatched hospitality from the people in southwest Louisiana, this is what I miss and always look forward to when returning to the state I was born and raised in...

Went last night…read more Driveway & parking are rough, glad we were in a JEEP. The boiled crawfish were "medium" size & still expensive. Advice: Call ahead & go early. The seasonings except salt are applied to the outsides of the shells after cooking. So Cayenne gets on hands, eventually on lips & nose, then eyes. Just order "regular/mild" and season with the dipping sauce. We never do it that way at home. The underlying problems are from difficult crawish crop & supplies, for several years now. All the crawfish places are experiencing this. Overall, this has been an excellent place for boiled local seafoods. Will wait to try again in a few weeks. The shrimp are fine, "A-OK", & a bit less expensive.

The snow crab was just ok, definitely no sweet flavor that I normally taste. The mushrooms you can add for an additional charge (and the waitress raved about them) were terrible. They were the type Chinese restaurants put in their stir fry which definitely do not belong in boiled seafoods! The good part was the corn was really good & the potatoes were cooked properly. Unfortunately- sorry we even went here & wasted my money! I really wanted to support the restaurant, however; I personally won't be returning.
