The food was really good. We got the 4 piece fried chicken dinner that comes with one roll and fries. The chicken was very crispy and juicy. The roll and fries were really good, all was very fresh. You can order boudin by the pound here in mild or spicy. We got an order of 3 boudin balls, which were very good but apparently they sell out typically before noon. The service was good. It is a very homey place that isn't intimidating at all. The menu is simple and easy to read. I will say it seems to be a very straightforward place. Food is served on paper plates and cafeteria style trays so if you're thinking fancy then this isn't for you. read more

We took the time to leave the interstate and drive through town to get here and it met expectations. When you're looking for boudin, good gumbo, and fried okra this does the job. Order at the counter, pick a picnic table and get your food when it's ready. Wouldn't mind bread with an entree, but you can ask for it if you want. And I guess from the other review they probably need to put the "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service - and leave the gun in the car, we're friendly". When you call yourself the "Boudin King" and you live in the a place once deemed the "Boudin Capital of the Universe" . . . . . . . well, it better be good. I've been all over Louisiana and have never had boudin as good as "Boudin King". Been eating here since I was about three years old, and I try to stop by every time I am passing through close to lunch time. A lot of places add to much rice, or try to overcompensate with too much meat, which just makes their boudin greasy. Boudin King has the recipe finely tuned and has been making it that way for about 50 years. I heard it through the grapevine that the locals say the taste hasn't been exactly the same since Mr. Ellis Cormier, the owner passed away, but in my opinion, they still got it. They also have a full menu of "Cajun" food like gumbo, seafood, fried anything, po-boys, etc...let me tell you, I just don't give 5 stars away freely. It's a little off the interstate and has never had much of a tourist patronage, but if you stop here, you won't be disappointed. Also worth noting is that they have another location closer to the interstate in nearby Crowley, LA, only this restaurant is called "Cajun Way". read more

Dont recommend this place at all , the workers are uneducated for sure . so my husband was carrying his fire arm and this women comes up and says do you have a permit to carry that and he says no and she's says well you need one .... mind you in the state of Louisiana you do not need a permit to open carry ! Had gumbo and that was not bad but not good either. Also fried chicken, well it's hard to make that bad anyway. Also had potato salad and it was not bad as well. Cozy dining room with a down home feel. We've had the red beans and rice (best I've ever eaten), Boudin balls, Boudin link, fish, and gumbo. The Boudin balls (3 for $2.50) are "melt-in-your-mouth" good! They had enough moisture to stick together without turning into a blob of mush. The flavor was great. The gumbo has a thinner roux which I prefer. The seasonings are perfect. This is real Cajun food... not over seasoned to fit some theory of what Cajun food is. If you are within a half-hour drive, make the detour. Spend some time in a true Southern kitchen. Over 40 years of service to this area makes it a place you should take the time to visit as often as possible. read more

Food was just ok. The seafood dinner which I always order at the Crowley location was very skimpy here. My fish strips were tiny and my fried okra cooked have been cooked longer and salted. Our major issue however, is that there were five workers standing in the front talking the whole time we were there eating. Every time we looked up, they were looking back at us. There seemed to be only the one girl who took our order doing some work in the front and the guys in the back. I hate to give this low review to a La favorite, but being in the service industry, customer service is everything and the least they could have done was take that to the back away from the customers eyes. read more

A smallish hole in the wall with picnic tables and that whole country vibe. Small but delish menu. We had the fried chicken which was good. My red beans and rice were good as well. Be warned a Bowl is huge! Get a cup if you just want a single serving. The Fried okra and hush puppies were good. Boudin was excellent. I wasn't sure if I'd like Boudin but it was very tasty. It had the white casing with more of a rice dressing inside rather than the other "red" bloody Boudin. Overall very pleased with our meal. It pays to get off the Interstate. On the way to NOLA, we took the advice of Yelp reviewers and made a side trip to Jennings. The Boudin King restaurant is located in a working class neighborhood and is second generation family-owned. Don't let the humble surroundings fool you. Inside, you'll find photos of the Boudin King himself serving meals at the governor's mansion. You''ll also find a huge stuffed alligator in its own room, but I digress.... We'd never had boudin before and frankly, weren't sure exactly what it was. The woman taking our order (the Boudin Queen, it turned out) was very helpful and provided samples before we ordered. Turns out boudin (at least this version) is very, very good. It was even better crumbled into a bowl of gumbo. Or the red beans and rice. We talked to the King before we left and told him how we found his resturant using Yelp. Obviously, he was interested in learning more. So if you stop by based on any of these reviews, he'd probably love to hear from you. read more

Best boudin I've ever tasted. Not too much heat, really, but the herbs/spices they use make it the perfect balance of heat and flavor. My best friend, her mom, and grandparents (all native Cajuns) all agreed that it was excellent boudin. Boudin King is an impeccably clean restaurant getting a little long in the tooth, and the food, though not bad when it comes to Cajun style deep fried fast food, isn't auspicious for the area. The fried chicken is decent, but was clearly cooked at least an hour before I got to the restaurant. Coleslaw was lazily prepared by putting the cabbage through a food processor and making confetti sized pieces with an overly moist mayo/horseradish combo. I noticed that a group of three people next to us threw out a nearly full basket of fried okra. I didn't have any, but between three people, I would have thought that if it was of good quality, they would have eaten more. The boudin was disappointing; most places in southern Louisiana take the shortcut of using boil-in-bag rice that is flavorless and imparts no starch which is important to the texture of good boudin. Also, it is generally long grain, and medium grain rice is best for boudin. Most places also tend to use lean, flavorless cuts of pork in order to make an inoffensive, non-greasy product. You can have a non-greasy piece of boudin that still has a rich flavor, but it's difficult to find that balance. Sadly, Boudin King doesn't bother trying to find the balance and takes the easy way out. An OK place to eat for Cajun style fast food, but this place gets by on its reputation much more so than its quality. read more

I saw the word "sausage" and was immediately convinced: this is our lunch stop. First of all, the folks that own/operate this place are as kind as can be. They immediately knew we were clueless about the food so they offered a generous portion as a sample. We tried both the mild and spicy boudin and both were exquisite. The restaurant packs the house, which there isn't much room and tons of tables, so it's a little clostraphobic. The boudin balls were delicious though and low price. I also had a shrimp po boy.
