Best Cajun Seafood I've ever had. We had mozzarella bites, alligator bites, and cocktail shrimp. All fresh and cooked to perfection. Then the gumbo was so flavorful and delicious. Then the seafood platter was fried perfectly and the catfish with étouffée was very tasty. Jordy was our server and she was on it! Very kind and pleasant. Never had to ask for a refill, she got me cocktail sauce very promptly twice and the place was packed. She has outstanding work ethic. Five stars read more

Absolutely outstanding food. The owner was very responsive on Facebook and happens to be a fellow pilot. He had recommendations of the blackened oysters which are insane and could probably finish 3-4 orders as an entree. Also had the BBQ crabs, and wife had the Bangin BBQ shrimp! It was all gone by the time we got done with it. The best part is if you're a pilot with a plane, there's a nice parking area adjacent to the car parking lot west of the north end of the grass runway. That runway is easily one of the best grass runways I've landed on. Very smooth and manicured and same goes for the parking area. Mind your prop blast taking off to the south on runway 21. I landed to the north on runway 3. Absolutely can't wait to come back. Most importantly, aside from being able to fly in, the prices were reasonable and the service was outstanding. This place always shows Southern Hospitality! The seafood is ALWAYS AMAZING! I always choose from a variety of these every visit because no matter what I order, the dish tastes great. This restaurant is probably the most successful true, mom-and-pop Cajun restaurant that is truly authentic. I've uploaded a photo of the Bayou Onion Blossom - Be prepared these things are HUGE! They're definitely ordered to share. The raw oysters are always good. The BBQ blue crabs might be my favorite thing to order during season. They're not what you would think though! They're not covered in bbq sauce at all. Just think of them as extremely seasoned crabs cooked on a pit (I'm assuming a pit). Any of the boiled seafood options are always great! The seasonal boiled crawfish is always well seasoned full of spicy goodness and boiled well. Traveling through Jennings with a hotel stop, the desk clerk suggested this place. It's a wait to be seated but the food is well worth it. Very lively place with a band and dance floor. It's great for working off the meal you just had. We put this in our phone favorites for further stops while traveling this route. The staff is friendly and polite. My family and I really enjoyed the live band -- The Cajun Stompers. They even let my little son practice playing the spoons and the triangle. This is our first trip to D.I.'s outside of crawfish season. We have been here more than ten times during crawfish season and have only ever ordered the boiled crawfish, crabs, gumbo and some appetizers. This time was different and we were not disappointed. The steaks are very generous in portion size and extremely flavorful. Mine was done a bit more on the medium well side and normally I'd have sent it back but I ate the whole steak without any other complaint. The venue is wonderful for live music on most weekends, but not all so call before going if that is your reason to go. Great for groups as well as very noisy children since it is a noisy establishments. If you do get the chance to have their crawfish order it, you will not be disappointed. read more

It was a bit of a ways from the freeway and though it was a little but if a trek to get there I found the food well worth it. The restaurant had a "local favorite" vibe and I could see why. Their alligator bites were delicious and their gumbo was authentic and delicious!! My family had a 3lb order of crawfish and were not disappointed! Now this is a place worth finding! I had flown into SETX to see a girl I'd met online, she liked me and I liked her, so we had our first big date in this part of Louisiana. I'd read about D.I.'s, so I said, "Hey, let's go there." Then I thought I got lost trying to find the place. It was night, we were on 97, there was *nothing* out there, we were hungry, and I thought "man, she's not gonna think much of me now." And then, there it was: a bigger-than-normal restaurant set a little ways from the road, and the gravel parking lot was PACKED with cars and trucks. If you're there on the weekend, this is not just a place to eat. It's big and loud (as are many of the patrons), with lots of food at a reasonable price. Live Cajun music, and lots of people of all ages on the dance floor. If your idea of a date night is to eat fantastic food (I think I had alligator) and sweat it all off to top-notch music, then this is the place. If you want authentic atmosphere, then this is also the place. This is my best friend's family's favorite Cajun restaurant. A little detour from I-10 on the way from Houston to Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, it's in the middle of nowhere amidst crawfish farms and rice fields. The staff is so small town and cute. Super friendly. Everything is available on the dinner menu for lunch except, unfortunately, the boiled crawfish. Fried crawfish, yes, but not boiled. On nights, they have live music and dancing and such as well - it's a pretty popular place. Our waitress told us about it (even though my best friend, who took me there, already knew) and said that they could open the sliding doors in front of the stage so we could take a look if we wanted to. We said that was okay, but I half expected to pull away the wooden "curtain" and find the Chuck E. Cheese/Showbiz Pizza robotic animals at their instruments. :P The fried crawfish was lightly crisp and addictive, as were the fried okra. The charbroiled oysters were huge (in size and in number) and came swimming, out of shell, in a lemony butter sauce with more butter to dip them in. They were so rich and there was so much of it that even with us helping, my famished friend could not finish them. A shame. Actually, none of us could finish all our food. Healthy place this is not. What I like about DI's is the music and dancing. I've only been there once and while the music and dancing was good, it wasn't good enough to make me like the two-hour experience trying to get a hamburger. The waitress took our drink order and then disappeared before we could say "We're ready to order food too." Once she came back with drinks she took the appetizer order and left again in a big hurry. We finally got to order our food and then after waiting an hour for it we told her we just wanted the check and we would just grab fast-food since they were so slow. Almost immediately a person I can only assume was the manager came over to lecture the table about how their food is cooked fresh and they are busy, etc ... (in other words, THEIR problem with planning is MY problem). She had our food with her and by that point we were so hungry we ate it in about 5 minutes and left. Everyone was shocked at having to sit through this long lecture and pointed out to her that every table around us had come in, ordered, eaten and left already. One final thought - the slow service prompted me to try several drinks from the bar just to pass the time. It was annoying that our waitress couldn't tell me what types of rum or gin they served. I gave 4 stars because the dinner salad and salad dressing was embarrassingly basic and cheap tasting. Also, the seafood platter was aesthetically bland. Everything was fried (including the roll) and looked the same. The food was great however. Loved that they offered gator. I ordered the blackened gator. The waitress was great did not have to ask for anything. I have eaten at D.I.'s several times and have always loved the food until now. For an appetizer I got their version of devil's on horseback. Their version is shrimp wrapped in bacon then fried. The bacon was under done and very rubbery. The salad was lettuce with one piece of tomato. I got the seafood platter which had a lot of food. The baked potato came with sour cream, chives, and bacon but no butter. The flavors were mediocre. My mom got the half and half crawfish which is fried crawfish and crawfish etouffe. DI's restaurant is five miles from nowhere, a huge restaurant set in the middle of their own crawfish farm. Not surprisingly, they have the best crawfish I have ever tasted. Was further off I-10 then map says by like 6-8 miles. Called ahead of time to make sure they were open. Pulled up at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon was aloud to sit at our table but was told they did not actually open until 5. So we were walked around and ignored by several women setting tables and folding napkins, yet there was a table in there with people eating already. At ten to five we were asked finally if anybody had waited on us. So we got our drinks and ordered our food by 5. My husband got the stuff Flounder and said it was bland and taste like it was frozen not fresh. My corn and crawfish chowder was very bland for being Cajun food. Has to be the worst Cajun food we have ever eaten. Only good thing I can say was that the boiled crawfish are huge and were really good. This place is the best true Cajun experience one could have. The raw oysters were so fresh you could actually taste the salt water in them whereas most oysters are processed and lose this authentic flavor. The boiled crawfish were hands down the best And I've had them everywhere. The music brought an energy that lacks in a lot of dining experiences. Brought back memories of my grandparents who loves Cajun music. To see long lasting strong love like that on the dance floor was a blessing. And our waitress, Britney, was the best! Very sweet and attentive. Did not slack one bit so if you get her, tip her well! We drove about an hour from lake Charles and will definitely be doing that again.
