This restaurant was such a breath of fresh air. It has a real small-town feel--one of those places where everyone seems to know everyone, and it's honestly adorable. It reminded me of the kind of restaurants I grew up with as a kid in a small town. Just a simple, quaint little spot on the side of the freeway. We've been there twice now, and the food is great. We pass it all the time on the way to Coushatta in Kinder, and now we're kicking ourselves for not stopping in sooner. The vibe, the people, the food--everything just feels right. The whole place feels like it's straight out of Mayberry (for the younger folks, ask someone older and they'll tell you). My wife and I love to people-watch, and I swear we saw the pastor chatting with parishioners, the mayor and his wife shaking hands with folks, neighbors catching up on the latest gossip, and the PTA crew laughing in the corner. It was all just too perfect. The food is cooked the way it used to be in the old days, and it really brings back memories. Don't get me wrong--the restaurant itself is a normal, modern stand-alone building--but the feel inside, with the vibe from the waitresses, the customers, and the food, just exudes this wonderful old-time country charm. Allyssa was our waitress the last two times we went, and she's absolutely adorable. She's got the sweetest country twang and a natural charm that makes you feel right at home. She's very attentive, too. We had the fried pickles, the catfish dinner, and the fried shrimp. The iced tea is always fresh. They close at 2 on Sundays, so get there early for the freshest food. I'm no food critic, so I can't break down all the flavors for you--but I can tell you everything was good, and we left with big smiles on our faces. We'll definitely be back. read more

While staying at a casino resort in Kinder, LA, I asked some of the employees about the best place to get some good seafood, without having to drive into Lake Charles. They all suggested Roy's Catfish Hut. I had the Shrimp and Catfish Platter, along with a stuffed crab. The food was delicious and you could tell all the food was fresh. I also had a salad from the salad bar, which was very good, I could have made a meal of the salad bar. If you are in the Kinder area, you have got to try this place. read more

There isn't many dining options in this town, but Roys hit the spot! We're from Texas traveling and stayed a couple nights at the local Casino. Went here for dinner one night and all 4 os us were impressed. The salad bar was good. I recomend to try the macaroni sald. This has the best hushpuppies I've ever had! They were the size of golf balls! The catfish had a cornmeal breading and they were excellent. My wie loved her Crawfish Etouffee. Highly recomend this place if you're in town. read more

We enjoyed a quick, delicious dinner tonight at Roys. The service was stellar and there was a great calming vibe with Christian music playing throughout the restaurant. I ordered the choose two meal and selected fried catfish and shrimp with a baked potato. It was a good sized portion and seasoned well. Also, my sweet tea was sweetened very well. Most entrees come with access to the salad bar, which had many fresh toppings. It is definitely a casual, family style spot, so don't expect high caliber items ( think imitation bacon bits versus real bacon) but they were all very fresh and plentiful. My daughter enjoyed her cheeseburger. We ordered a hush puppy appetizer, but it arrived with our meal, which came out rather quickly. The hush puppies were unfortunately not good - overcooked and bland. Otherwise, we enjoyed it and will return if in the area. It was also affordable. I would definitely recommend. read more

Places, Plates and Pillows is on the road again on another job site but this time we are in Louisiana. I say place on Yelp with some good reviews do my co-workers and I are trying it out. Small but a local restaurant with a good atmosphere and great service. 4 out of 6 of us got their ribeye steaks with a bake potato along with a trip to the salad bar. Also a local thing is a pistolette (a fried bread roll that is crunchy on the outside but soft and yummy on the inside). The bake potato was done great, the ribeye was grilled to a great medium, with a great taste. The salad bar was what can I say, it's a salad bar. So if your in Louisiana on your way to the Casino in Kinder, stop in here for lunch or for dinner. I liked it and hope you will too! read more

We have been traveling from New Orleans to Kinder on business monthly for 3 years and have eaten at all of the "very few" restaurants this quaint Cajun town has to offer including all of the Coushatta Casino restaurants and this little place here is hands down the best in town. We make it a point to eat here at least once while in town. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars is because of the noise level....very loud Their ribeye steaks are surprisingly quite good and salad bar is nice and fresh. I'm from Houston, and I came to Coushatta (of course) for the weekend.... my first and foremost goal whilst in Louisiana was FIND GREAT CAJUN FOOD! I yelped, and yelped and to no avail didn't find anything "Cajun worthy" sooooo Roy's Catfish Hut it was! I walked in a bit disappointed & a bit bitter to the fact I wasn't getting my super real Cajun Louisiana food. I was already giving this place a 1 star just because of my salty attitude. Then our super nice waitress greeted us, took our drink order and answered my famous foreign questions "What's good here?" She began to answer but then I remembered of the yummy looking ribeye picture I had seen on Yelp and immediately order that with a side of shrimp and a potato. I wish I can remember our waitress' name! She was soooooooooo nice! I loved her and her hospitality! *let me run to my car real quick to go get the receipt to see if her name is on there* .... KAILEY!! Thank you Kailey for being such an awesome waitress! Wish we can clone you and bring you back to Houston to our favorite restaurant here!
