There was a small welcoming staff there to greet us. The grilled oysters were topped with chopped peppers and bacon bits - came out hot and the oysters were plump and big! Very very tasty! It was about 30$ for a dozen oysters - so quite affordable for the size of oysters. Great bite and starter. I ordered the Atchafalaya, which had fried catfish and crawfish etouffee gravy smothered on top. The rice was a bit underdone which made the over taste of the dish not as cohesive. The crawfish pieces were abundant, but slightly mushy. The sweet potato fried side dish that came with the dish was perfect though - soft interior and slightly crisp exterior. The portion size was huge and I wasn't able to finish the dish. I'd definitely recommend trying the oysters on the menu, and next time, I'll need to try the fresh oysters! read more

I always give HONEST REVIEWS: Very nice new place. When I walked in there was no one in front and no greeting. It was not busy at all... We were not asked if we wanted a booth or table. I said can I please have a booth and we stood in the middle of the restaurant embarrassed as he had to leave and ASK SOMEONE. We finally sat down in a booth and ordered our things. I ordered the SEAFOOD PASTA and FRIED FISH entrees. We asked if we can substitute something and she said yes but I had to ask if the substitute cost extra and she said $5. She should have stated the charge without asking. Our food arrived in good time. The SEAFOOD PASTA was actually very disappointing as the noodles barely tasted like anything but the Tony's seasoning at the table somewhat fixed that. The Shrimp and Crawfish were good but the oysters were absolutely horrible. The oysters were rubbery and it was impossible to eat a whole oyster as the middle of every one was un-chewable. I had to take it back out of my mouth (embarrassing for me) . My table had the chewed oysters on the table (embarrassing) and also a shell of an oyster was in there. Perfect location near the hub of hotels makes for an easy walk. The charbroiled oysters, BYO (Build Your Own) options were amazing, with the Roughneck having desired spice. We recently visited Shucks in Lake Charles and overall had a good experience. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was enjoyable and welcoming. The quality of the meal definitely met our expectations. However, the service on the bar side left some room for improvement. We were told that the bar was running behind, but that explanation did not sit well considering the length of the wait for drinks. It seems that having a dedicated runner to help deliver drinks from the bar could greatly improve service and keep things moving more efficiently. Additionally, our appetizer was forgotten and wasn't offered until halfway through our meal, at which point it no longer made much sense to bring it out. Overall, the food and atmosphere were excellent, but improving drink service and communication in the kitchen and bar areas would make the experience even better. read more

Saw the good reviews so excited to try. Casual, fun atmosphere. Starting with the Frozen Cosmo Martini cocktail which is amazing! The weather is a little chilly or we could have sat outside. There are heaters so it would have been fine. Our server is happy and efficient and has great suggestions. We said the boys would have liked this bc the games are on. Three different people came to our table we didn't know which one was actually our server. We were never asked for refills or if we needed anything else. My husband, daughter and I decided to eat a late lunch at Shucks since it offered fresh oysters and close to our hotel. We opted for The Oyster Sampler which offered 10 Char-Broiled Oysters, 2 Traditional Oysters (garlic butter with Romano & Parmesan Cheese), 2 Rough Neck Oysters (cream cheese, bacon topped with sautéed jalapeños & bell peppers), 2 Oysters Rockefeller (creamed spinach topped with a blend of Italian cheeses), 2 Oysters Shuck-a-fella (cream based topping with bacon & mushrooms) and 2 Candied Oysters (crumbed feta & blue cheese with a sugar cane pepper glaze). We also ordered a shrimp Po-boy sandwich on French bread and a kids Chicken Tenders with fries. The oysters came out first. Eight of our oysters were a good size but our Candied Oysters were tiny (1/4 of the size of the other oysters). When we asked if a different type of oysters were used for the Candied Oysters, we were given 3 extra Candied Oysters, one of the same size as the initial 2 and 2 of the larger size, making us super happy. All of the oysters were delicious. The kids Chicken Tenders (for age 12 and under) for just $5 included 2 good sized thinly cut breast tenders. The chicken and fries were hot out of the fried and looked great. We had to let it cool down for a few minutes before our daughter could eat it. Better for it to be fresh and hot and have to wait than getting just warm food. My daughter loved it. My husband and I shared the Shrimp Po-Boy Sandwich. The shrimps were hot, crisp breading and perfectly cooked. However, the French bread was disappointing. We were expecting a crusty outside and soft inside. It was just soft, inside and out. We had opted for grilled veggie medley as our side to include a touch of non-fried healthiness. The veggies were a disappointed. It looked sad and was barely warm as if it was part of a batch cooked a couple hours prior. Our server offered to bring us a different side but by then we had finished our meal so we declined. Terrible experience. I have never been somewhere so unprofessional. We came in toward the end of the night. We were told as long as we got our order in before 10, we would be fine. We sat and quickly ordered. All food came out except mine (Crab cakes) and my daughters (cup of gumbo). I asked about about it and the waitress went to check. At least 5 minutes later the manager came out to say he was sorry but they forgot to make our food and he was not able to offer us our food or any other replacement for it except dessert. I asked if they could at least do my daughters gumbo or anything for her. He said no. We luckily were able to eat the leftovers of others at our table. I was shocked by how unprofessional it was. We went for lunch during our visit to Lake Charles and the food was fantastic! Fried shrimp, oysters, fish, etc. We got a crab cake appetizer that I would not order again, but for fried food, it's a good restaurant. The atmosphere gets a 10/10. HOWEVER, our trip there got ruined by an inexperienced server that, besides not being able to answer many questions about the menu, made a mistake by charging us $4 for a free substitution. When I pointed it out to her, she got defensive and turned the menu over where it does say an upcharge, but where she showed us, it did not say that. Her mistake, but not a big deal, YET! After lecturing us on the menu, she walked off and then another SERVER came to "explain their menu". After the explanation (lecture), she said that she did not have authority to fix the $4 error! THEN, a manager came to the table and wanted to give us the same menu orientation again. It was comical at this point, as I never asked to speak to anyone, yet three employees attempted to train us on their menu. Finally, the manager (black female) waived her server's error (but only $3 of the $4 upcharge lol) after her turn training us lol. My family and I went to SHUCKS Lake Charles last night for a late Mother's Day celebration and it was great! I made reservations for 5:15pm the morning before just to be safe because I had heard how packed it had been. My boyfriend and I went about an hour early to have some drinks while we waited for everyone and the restaurant had people but was pretty empty..the bar top however was full but luckily had TWO empty seats. We sat down and got some beers and the bartenders were great and attentive! I will say the bar top itself is a little smaller than i expected for a new swla restaurant (they know people like to drink down here). At about 4:50 I went to tell the hostess who I was, that I had a reservation, and that I was sitting at the bar so that when our table was ready they could come get me. Good thing I made reservations, because as I was doing that I heard the other hostess tell someone else that they were completely booked for the night!! Hostess came and got me shortly and sat us outside on the patio. The breeze coming off the bayou got a little gusty at times but it was very nice..not to mention the live music that started soon after. We ordered more drinks, 4 dozen RAW oysters, gator bites, and each of us got an entree. The gator bites were lightly battered and tender..the sauce? Amazing! The oysters were very good, and pretty big! No complaints! I got the grilled seafood platter which was also good (a little bland for my liking but still good) the grilled oysters that it comes with I have decided are not for me haha I'd much rather them raw or fried! Grilled salmon was good but the glaze on top is what made it stand out! The star of the show however was my boyfriend's shrimp and grits! The grits were some of the best grits we've had..which is why I have zero pictures because everyone scarfed them down! Megan, our server, was phenomenal! She accidentally brought us draft beers instead of bottles and we joked about it the rest of our dinner because she was honest and had a great sense of humor! Mr. David, one of the owners, was also walking around and introducing himself and checking on all the tables which was nice.
