Carrot soufflé
J C.

Our waitress was so friendly! She helped us by giving us some recommendations. I had two grilled shrimp tacos with a crawfish pistolette and a side of carrot soufflé. I loved my whole meal. It was nice and bright inside. I plan to return.

My waitress was so sweet and helpful. She mentioned that they could take the pistolette filling and put it on my baked potato. Oh my goodness it was so good. I ordered a piece of chocolate marble cake with peanut butter frosting and it tasted so homemade like someone made it for a church bake sale. I liked how all of the customers went so friendly and saying hello to everyone. Made me wish I lived in the area as they made the ambiance so cozy and welcoming.

After viewing the lunch buffet we decided to give it a try to save time. It seemed today most of the customers were locals comprised of contractors and maybe plant workers, there was no doubt this place is a local favorite. After placing our drink orders we proceeded to the steam table and grabbed our plates, most of the food seemed fresh and definitely hot, the kitchen was in the process of refilling items as we served ourselves. Honestly there was nothing bad here but after trying a few bites I was reaching for the hot sauce to jazz things up a bit. I thought the prices were a little steep considering the portions we chose, if you're one that will make multiple trips to the food bar it's probably a good deal. We felt the food quality and preparation was just okay, it's likely we would not return or travel out of our way to dine here again. The staff was very friendly and accommodating it's just not the type of place we frequent...

Tate Cove Seafood II - My oyster and shrimp combo

Cravings satisfied! I was in the South for winter vacation and the day I visited Tate Cove Seafood…read moreII happened to be a gloomy, rainy day. On rainy days, I crave fried foods (or soups, if it's rainy and cold) and this time, it's specifically fried seafood I was craving but none of the fast food restaurants around where I'm staying has it on their menus. It was a bit of a drive but this was what's recommended to me. I believe this place used to be called "Golden Hooks" (similarly a no-frills seafood spot) but is now named Tate Cove Seafood II under new management. I was at first confused by some of the westernized-Chinese menu items like crab rangoons, egg rolls, and fried rice for a Cajun seafood restaurant but it all made sense to me when I stepped inside and was warmly greeted by a fellow Asian. It was young man around my age who was English-fluent and friendly. Our interaction was smooth both over the phone and in person and made picking up my to-go order very efficient I was indecisive between getting a shrimp poboy (apparently one of their most popular items) and a seafood combo for myself. My dad went for the 1/2 Fish & 1/2 Shrimp Dinner Combo so I ultimately decided to go for a seafood combo as well and got the 1/2 Oyster & 1/2 Shrimp Dinner Combo. I can't speak for the fish and the oysters were just palatable but the shrimp was delightful! The perfect crispiness and taste! I actually ordered from them a second time before coming back to NYC to post this review and the consistency was definitely there. 100% recommend.

I was surprised to see them served in a bowl. I've never seen them served that way and that's probably explained by the fact that the entire bottom level of chips had absolutely zero toppings on them. Also, the chips were the most flimsy, brittle, weak chips I've ever seen used for nachos before. They were so weak, no matter how careful I tried to be even the clean, dry-as-a-bone ones from the bottom were too weak to use to dip into the Crawfish Queso Appetizer my friend ordered without breaking. The Crawfish Queso was super thick, creamy and delicious and I would order it again. Even though the toppings including the pork and cheese were tasty on the nachos, I would not order them again and if any other item on the menu used the same chips for dipping into any dip, I wouldn't order that item either. I would go back, but I would try one of the burgers next time - my friend's burger looked super tasty and she said the fries are delicious.

Crab cake dry with little sauce so when my friend asked for alittle more they charged her $7 for it. When I asked for remoulade sauce for shrimp poboy because I can't eat jalapeno mayo, that was extra $1. Mostly the food is great but there were mistakes made today.
