We stopped in today for a bowl of shrimp and crab gumbo for lunch. The outside of the place looked a little more run down than I remembered but the inside was clean and the staff was friendly. The gumbo was still good and very affordable ($8.95 I believe), rice is served on the side, and their potato salad (recommended accompaniment in Cajun Country) is very good! This is a simple little local place, inside and out, that serves some delicious food right off I-10. Don't let the exterior deter you. We evidently arrived right after a rush as there were lots of tables needing to be bussed. From the debris it would appear that their crawfish are quite popular. The interior is a simple large dining space to the left with a deli counter on the right that housed sausages and other takeout items. I went for the adventure and ordered gumbo, boudin balls and a seafood pistolette. I am not well enough versed in Cajun/Creole dishes to compare the gumbo and boudin balls to others, but for me they were ok. The pistolette, on the other hand, was delicious. My father introduced me to "bore a hole" biscuits when I was a child which involved putting a finger hole in the side of a biscuit and filling it with cane syrup. The pistolette is something similar except the hole in the side of the soft roll is filled with a cheesy seafood filling (or a crawfish or hamburger filling, if you choose) and it was delicious. I would order pistolettes again and probably would want to try all three options. My wife ordered the fried catfish plate and this was the real star of the dinner. Lord, that was some of the best tasting fried catfish strips ever. The catfish was plentiful on the plate so I got to try several strips and the catfish alone is worth a stop. Came to this area to look at a vehicle for sale, and passed this place at 11:30am on a Wednesday. The parking lot was packed at this time, as they have their lunch buffet then. We finished our errand about 3 pm and returned here to eat. Very welcoming lady who also waited on us. This is a hometown spot, clean, and spacious. I had the catfish dinner, and my son had a sandwich. The sweet iced tea is perfect! Food was freshly cooked; the fries were perfectly fried as were the hush puppies, which have a nice touch of jalapeños. The cole slaw is sweet, but goes well with the rest of the meal. My catfish was very good, crispy, and plenty to share. One piece was too salty to eat, but I was full anyway. The kind waitress gave me a large tea to go. My son liked his sandwich and said the bread was delicious. Enjoyed our meal, but will try to be here for the lunch buffet, as there seems to be a lot to offer there. Its a whole in the wall place that serves up some great food, large portions and low prices. Decore is bare bones and many of the tables and chairs have seen better days. This is amazing little gem slightly off I-10 in Sulphur LA. If your looking for great Cajun food then take a little detour, you will not be disappointed. I come to Sulphur a couple times a week for work and I make a stop here every time if they are open. They have a hot line/ buffet and a full menu. As well as some of the most amazing deserts you will ever try. The buffet changes every day. The portions are huge so be ready to loosen your pants, and if you try the buffet you will probably need a nap afterwards. If your lucky enough to stop by on Friday get ready for a big treat, they have a seafood buffet on Friday. read more

I've been coming here since a kid and I'm from Texas. They are very consistent with the boudin. Nice and meaty I prefer the spicy but both are winners. The little lady's are friendly. And they are practicing social distancing. Only problem is the hours they should be open 24 hours lol just check hours before you go cause they close early. read more

This is the best place to get pistolettes! For the uninitiated, pistolette is an Arcadian-Cajun specialty that is essentially fried bun stuffed with crawfish etouffe (or anything else). Sure it sounds greasy and unhealthy, but it's damn worth turning a blind eye on your calorie watch for a meal! Other than that though, Boiling Point is unfortunately a mediocre and overpriced Cajun seafood restaurant. While the okay poboys are priced about $8-12 each, the dinner plate can easily cost about $20 each. The decor is even worse than the plant lunch rooms. I would definitely recommend this place to try the pistolettes! Other than that though, you can find much better (and cheaper) seafood restaurants in the area. read more

We stopped for lunch here on our long drive back home from meetings in Mississippi. Wanted something local - local owned and featuring local Cajun cuisine. This place hit the mark on both accounts. Even though it was a bit on the early side, the place was already packed for the lunch rush. The waitresses seemed to maneuver the tables and customer needs as fluidly as was possible. It was the first week of Lent, and a Friday, and I think the entire Parish had the same idea. I had the boiled shrimp, with a side of coleslaw. Hubby had a catfish Po'boy with fried okra. I went to this place about seven or eight years ago I live in Texas but I was working in Louisiana and the town that I was staying in the boiling point was there. I decided to go in waitress walked over I ordered a beer and I asked her about the Cray fish. She looked at me and said do you see a Y and crawfish boy where are you from? I said originally I'm from California and she said that explains it. I was working in Louisiana for six months I was in this place at least 2 to 3 times a week I loved it food was phenomenal the crawfish etouffee on top of the ribeye unbelievable. Stayed in Lake Charles for the access to Holly Beach. Came into The Boiling Point on a Saturday around 8 and wasn't greeted to well by one of the workers. She seemed mad that we were there and was looking to close early. The rest of the staff hushed her and we were seated. Service from that point was awesome. Started with boudin balls and pistolettes. Amazing by all standards. Hot, gooey cheese and crawfish fried in the pistolette to perfection. Boudin balls are hot and fresh. Followed by John's Catfish divine and the crawfish ettoufee. The ettoufee was amazing. The rice it was served with was a bit crunchy but I ignored that due the the amazing flavor of the gravy. All in all, service was great minus the entrance hiccup. Food was hot, fresh and full of flavor. Will definitely recommend this place to other and will be back on our next trip down. read more

I was not impressed with The Boiling Point. The food presentation, while not something that I would usually comment on, needs to be mentioned. I was given a disposable Styrofoam plate with food seemingly thrown on to it with no regard to plating or presentation. The staff was inattentive, my food under seasoned, and only my entrée was delivered hot. The Food: I ordered grilled catfish, which was under seasoned and not very good, which came with a roll that I could have picked up in the freezer section of a grocery store, salad that was only lettuce and diced tomatoes, and finally peach cobbler that was mediocre at best. The Verdict: Steer clear of The Boiling Point. There are other Cajun restaurants in the Sulphur/Lake Charles area more worthy of your patronage. read more

Love the BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, chicken & sausage gumbo, and LOOOOVE the boudain balls & pistolettes (seafood & crawfish). YUM!! ...never tried the buffet b/c it was pretty expensive, but it looked good. The waitstaff is efficient but not overly sugary, food takes awhile so don't be in a rush. Not a fancy spot at all, but the staff is nice and friendly and the food is good. Only complaint was that the beer was kinda old, but I don't think this is a big drinking spot, so I'm not sure how often they restock. Def recommend for the food! read more

We found this place on at trip from New Orleans to Austin. I had a crawfish poboy, and my wife ordered chicken and sausage gumbo. The poboy came on a nice crusty roll and the crawfish were fried nicely with a golden brown breading. The gumbo was fabulous, based on a dark, rich roux. I was torn between checking out Hollier's and The Boiling Point on my most recent trip to Sulphur and I finally decided on The Boiling Point. First, if you are a sensitive type you may want to think twice before going here as the service is efficient and direct without the pleasantries. I didn't mind this at all but some may consider the staff on the rude side. (I didn't) The brought me my food in a timely manner and refilled my drink whenever it was empty without me having to ask. I had the crawfish special which had fried crawfish, crawfish etoufee, crawfish pistollete, and a very small portion of gumbo. The gumbo was underwhelming but everything else was good. It looks a little on the small side when they first bring it out (the platter is $17) but I was stuffed after eating it all. The place was about 1/2 full when we went and appeared to be all locals. I had passed by here earlier in the day and the parking lot was absolutely packed. Overall, I highly recommend it if you want to check out a locals cajun food favorite. read more

Eat here. You won't be disappointed. Best crawfish etoufee I've ever eaten. I was on my way to Lake Charles from Austin, but staying in a hotel in Sulfur. The desk clerk recommended this place. As soon as I walked in I knew it was going to be good. It had that home-cooking, family-run kind of feeling. It felt like a place that the local folk would go to with their family on a Sunday. The front window was painted with the local football mascot. That's exactly the kind of place that I was in the mood for. I ordered the crawfish sampler. Wow! So much food that I took a picture of it to show others. And it was all good. The only so-so part of it was the fried (popcorn) crawfish. Good quality, but slightly on the bland side. But the pistolet and the etoufee were outstanding. They offer other items for sale behind the counter, such as sausage and cold cuts of meat to go. They also offer cold etoufee for take-away, which I bought. Not cheap, but a good value for the quality. This was Cajun home cooking, with basic country service. I love the service for the fact that they leave you alone to eat, and don't ask how things are every 3 minutes. From now on, I am timing my trips through this neck of the woods so that the next time I pass through, I can enjoy the weekend buffet. read more

Pistolettes are good, but not the awesome I previously reported. The crawfish boudin is mostly rice and very few crawfish. The oysters were really good, but I only had three on my poboy. This place makes Cajun food a bad word. The absolutely worse place I have ever eaten. My husband raved about this place as he had been there many times passing through on travels. Well this place must have changed hands or something. The seafood gumbo was pathetic. Tiny salad shrimp in water that had no flavor. There was no roux, no tomato's, no okra, suppose to be oysters but didn't see them. Rice came in a separate bowl, I now regret adding it to the soup water as at least we would have had that to eat. We ended up paying $20 for crackers. On the the children's meals. The hamburger was so disgusting that I took a bite of my son's and had to spit it out. I don't even know what kind of "meat" that is. My other son who also had a hamburger literally vomited when we left the restaurant. Our daughter's grilled cheese was 2 pieces of toast with an unmelted slice of cheese, how they could even mess up a grilled cheese is beyond me. The only thing that was even edible were the French fries and the okra. The pistolettes were cold. Wound up here because the boyfriend did a search for all you can eat crawfish. Turns out it's not an all you can eat. It's sold by either 3 lbs or 5 lbs and is vastly over priced given how plentiful the crawfish harvest is this year. Since we were already here and hungry we decided to go ahead and eat. I wish we hadn't. The waitress was nice enough, if a little flighty. I do wish she had informed me my burger would come sans sides and those had to be ordered separately. The burger was decent, patty much smaller than the bun do the beginning and end bites were largely bread. A little over kill with the onions. The boyfriend ordered a steak which came out pretty decent, nicely seasoned if the meat was a little fatty it wasn't a big deal. He got a side salad with it, which was a make your own at the buffet bar. Was shredded lettuce which is always a little weird. He couldn't locate any dressing and was beginning to despair by this point. His other side was coleslaw. Don't know how that was as it was never brought to us. The waitress dropped off the "bill" with the food and disappeared into the night. I say "bill" but it was just what we ordered and in the short hand often used in restaurants. There was no mention on the "bill" about the coleslaw so perhaps that's why we didn't get it. read more
